    Every aspect of this place is what I love about small businesses. It's charming inside with a vibe that transports you to what feels like having a small meal in France. Ok, so I've never been to France, but that is exactly how I felt when eating here. Came here for a birthday on Sunday, and we had 2 LARGE tables up front. Pre-set Sunday Brunch meal, and it was delicious. EVERYTHING was amazing. The salad was fresh and refreshing, the Au Gratin, WOW, the Quiche(s) were cooked to perfection. Surprisingly, while I am a bacon connoisseur, the veggie quiche was so rich and flavorful. The Tartine was delightful, and the Croqu' Monsiuer was equally as delicious. The mimosas were a little on the pricey side, but you could tell this wasn't a $5 bottle of Brut. My favorite was the Kir Royal, which had a Raspberry Liquor. However, the star for me was a beer on tap, 1664, a French beer with great flavor and body. Loved it. Service was top notch. I believe the owners were on the floor along with 2 other ladies who were kind, charming, and the absolute cherry on top. It's service like this which makes regulars of these establishments. I think I've found a place I would love to stop by more often when I am in San Pedro... and you should too. A little breakfast outside the downtown street may just be an amazing time for you and company. Shout out to the Giant Lego Eiffel Tower up front. LOVE IT.

    My husband and I came here on a Sunday afternoon, for a day date after a movie. We absolutely loved Compagnon for our day out! We sat around 4:15 and the restaurant started getting busier and busier as we ate, they open at 4. We ordered the French onion soup, the octopus and the duck confit, all we would highly suggest, all were absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is lovely, I felt like we were in Europe! The service was great too. We will definitely visit again and I highly suggest this spot for a date night or a unique night out experience!

    Food was excellent. Two of us had the steak frites, one had the Branzino (fish) and the other had the Beef Bourguignon. All great choices, but next time I'm get the BB! Wife was kind enough to give me a taste of it, and it was superb - exactly how the waitress described it! I would have preferred the BB "au jus" to be served with the steak frites instead of a peppercorn sauce. The restaurant is in Old San Pedro, I believe. Quaint little area with some old shops. They also have an outdoor area, but we ate inside. It was our son and d-in-law's anniversary and they brought out a little mini-chocolate mousse with a candle which was very kind of them. Thanks for that! And yes, the owner speaks French so it is une vrai restaurant Français.

    Overall good food. Cute interior. Small restaurant & had customers come all evening. Beet salad & octopus was very good. My friend really enjoyed the tomato mustard tart & the bouilliabaissie. For me, the bouilliabaissie was a bit too fishy & salty. Friendly enough service but can use more attentiveness. We ran out of water on the little carafe & the servers walked by several times without noticing it. I had to ask for more water then they seem to be more attentive. Maybe didn't have enough # of servers tonight. Basque cheesecake was fluffy & good. The small chocolate mousse they gave for my friend's birthday was good too. I will be back to try other items on the menu.

    The food was amazing and the service was great!! I've moved out of the area but definitely worth the drive! Everyone at our table got something different and everyone loved their dish. I got the bouillabaisse and it was so clean, comforting and flavorful! The interior is so whimsical, cute and clean! Also the coffee was fantastic lol. We loved everything! If you're in the area definitely give it a try!! Also love that it's a family owned business!

    Thomas and his wife are wonderful hosts. They make you feel like part of the family. The restaurant feels like many cafés I've been to in France. I love the decor and the choice of tableware. And If you are someone who enjoys wine... You came to the right place! He even has a wine club. The food here is excellent, I've never had a bad meal. The menu is simple and traditional. The flavors represent the French cuisine beautifully. It's a must try! Parking is typically easy and there's a large parking lot up the street or down.

    The food is absolutely delicious and amazing! The owners, Thomas and Loni Compagnon, are great hosts and also work throughout the evening. My fav appetizer is the grilled octopus and the beet salad is oh so good. For tonight's entree I had the Coq au vin and was blown away. Guests I was with had the mussels and steak & frites and they raved about their meal. Dessert was the Pear Tart Tatin and we were not disappointed. Another glass of rose bubbly and a glass of port ended our evening perfectly.

    As the southernmost extremity of LA city, San Pedro has a sleepy and maritime vibe that differs from most of the rest of the city. Located in downtown, Compagnon is casual yet sophisticated. Starting with a warm welcome, one is impressed by the care that goes into improving your dining experience. We were most impressed with the food especially the beef bourginon that had the tenderness and flavor only achievable through careful braising. The branzino was also excellent and a bargain. The mousse au chocolat tasted of the cream and high-grade bittersweet chocolate needed for the unctuous creamy texture and alarmingly intense chocolate flavor that puts most of what passes for this popular dessert to shame. Enhancing the experience is Stella Liberté beer, my fave non- alcoholic brew. Though a long ride from the Westside, the excellent food and service combined with moderate prices justifies the long drive. Furthermore, San Pedro provides a welcome glimpse into LA as it was in the 1930s.

    Compagnon was incredibly delicious. It's strange how there are so few french bistro restaurants in Los Angeles. Compagnon does it right and has all the classic bistro dishes on their menu. I had a hard time choosing, but I ended up with the beef bourguinon which I was very happy with. It was tender and rich. My wife had the special fish, trout, which she said was amazing. I had a bite, and agree. Our friends were also happy with their dishes. For starters, we shared escargot and a dish of mussels and frites. If you like butter, these will satisfy that craving. We also shared the liver pate, which was also delicious. Finally, for dessert, the Apple galette and lemon tart which were also quite good. There is a few things I'd like to try next time, and the drive here from LB is so nice when you go over the bridges by the port. We are coming back for sure! Oh, service and wine were excellent too!

For you see, as I passed the outside of the Artistry a comedian/MC stopped me and explained that the spot was having a comedy night. Truth be told, comedy shows are simply not my choice of sport. However, the MC tried to convince me of the value of the show with an honest attempted that I respected. And thus I paid the 5.00 dollars and entered, I was ready to laugh and hope that the comedians would fulfill the hope. Additionally, entering the Artistry would provide me a lounge to wait for my friend that was coming to pick me up, in about an hour or so. As soon, as I entered the Artistry I was pleasantly surprised. It was a cool, inviting, elegant spot that was hidden from sight. It is the type of place that you only find when the winds of chance whisk you into a moment that impact and build your life. I will be the first one to admit that the winds of chance did not take me to Oz from Kansas, but they did take me to a welcome respite of people and opportunity. And at a more grounded level, I know now where to go if I have a wine-friend visit or I need a non-rowdy bar for peace and quiet. The place is a mash-up of modern appliances, contemporary art and pieces from days gone by. It is both eclectic and like a backyard sale of a Hollywood starlet. She accumulated trophies and bobbles of worth and next to the mat they are displayed on, you also see the junk she accumulated thought-out her life. In one of my pictures I show a tv that played maybe operatic music. It was signing with word that hit a deep range. This picture also has one of those fans that no longer have blades. The wind comes from an oval shape--- modern science. Another picture shows a Native American picture with a full headdress. It would be dynamic on a runway. Another picture shows a painting that seemed to be one of those famous food stills. So yeah, the collection that makes up the them decor is broad. I can only describe it as a wine cellar that was decorated by three friends, each of them with their own style. The friends were also young, like early 20s, so their taste and vision had not crystallized within them so there was no way they could take their three styles and make it one song in the same key. I also noticed that the menu had the word with misspelled. The typo added to the magic and hodgepodge of the place. Maria who works there, was a gem, a treasure, and the Hope diamond. I twisted my ankle a bit and it hurt to move, hence the stroll around town and not a hike to reach a top. I asked her to pour me a glass of water because I was sitting down, and getting up to reach the table, would make the pain amp up. She served me water and I apologized for being too needy as a customer who had become a patient. She then asked me if she could move the table closer to me. I said yes. She struggled a bit to move a table that looked like barrel, with a glass atop, and seemed to be full of wine corks, but it might have been just a layer that suggested fullness. She still managed to push the table. Now I could easily stretch and drink water. I thanked her for her work and kindness. And she said something so beautiful at it is core: I am here to serve. Thank you Maria for being of service. I ordered a fruity wine. I am not a wine drinker. The server suggested that one. Once I tasted it, it tasted like juice. The server compared it to a Capri Sun. Yeah, it kind of was. Then I drank more and I did not like it. I asked myself why? Like what specifically made me not like this wine? And all I could come up with was, "it tasted cheap." I felt bad for just describing something as cheap without further detail. Then I saw the bill. The wine was only 10.00 dollars. So it was a cheap wine. I mean right now, given inflation, what cocktail or pour is less than 10:00 dollars? A cheap one. And when I say cheap it does not mean that it lacks richness or attire from a brand name store. When I say that it is cheap I mean that it did not have depth of experience. It was cheap in the way that cheap perfume is, it does not have a layered complicated presence or scent and what it offers is lack of nuance, personality, hype and posture. Like cheap furniture, it's promise and function are soon broken. I would go here and try other wines. And who knows maybe one day I will find one that makes me a wine convert.

It's easy to pick up on the fact that this is a favorite local spot, with the owner and staff immediately recognizing several patrons by name upon arrival (I was envious! lol) The wine selection is impressive, and they have a simple menu of a few Sammie's, salads, and appetizers such as cheese boards, baked pretzel, and other items. Along with my glass of Malbec, I enjoyed a cheese board and quite possibly the BEST Caesar salad with chicken I've had in a decade or more! Dietrich was tending bar, and while not extremely well versed in wines (which he admitted openly), he was knowledgeable enough to pull solid suggestions based on your taste/preference. He was warm and friendly (and busy!). The owner was present the whole evening as well, and though I tried to engage, he didn't seem very interested in making chat with a non-regular like me lol. (It's ok!) There was a guitarist, which added vibes, but mostly just noise...his speakers were very loud, and the selection felt a little out of place. I would've stayed longer than the hour I did, if the music were a little lower and enjoyable (maybe jazz or something?). Maybe there'll be a different musician the next time I visit...I WILL be back!

    This bar has become my usual haunt, or watering hole, or my third place. They are just a regular person, not their woes, hopes, titles (or lack there of), they are another joe/jane/jonx, and are seen as such, with respect and acceptance. I do not know if Crimsin has become my third place, I love the gym, and places where I am invited to romp, and places where culture has esteem, but this place is definitely a place where I feel engaged by the mood, vibe, staff, and possibility so maybe one day in the future this place will be my third, I just can't say that, today. This place is definitely a dive bar--- meaning one comes for the beers and the shots, not necessarily to be impressed on transported by a mixologist. For me that was a point against the house of Crimsin, but then an unlikely hero came into play: Channel. I think I got her name right, I can easily see how an S can replaced the C. Whether her name is spelled with an S or C, one thing is clear, her talents are a gift to this place. I described to her how I do not really like the taste of alcohol, thus I gravitate toward drinks that are sugary cocktails. She took my limited explanation and concocted a raspberry lemon drop worthy of being held by a rom-com heroine as she described her latest fancy-free quarrel with her best friend in a NY hot-spot. Of course, both the heroine and the the bff have french tip nails that are to die. Since understanding my flavor profile, and my proclivities toward glitz in sip, she has crafted wonderful drink after wonderful drink. I appreciate her candy apple cocktail, and her black bitters drink that she warned me about before sipping, real bitters were in the drink, so I may have to chew or straight-up gulp. If you are in the area, port before a cruise, or coming to or from the fish market, stop here and ask for her, if you tend to like a drink served in martini glass. However, Jules, another bartender from this joint recently made me a blueberry cocktail- that I loved to the last hearty sip- and she served in a regular glass. I always paired cocktails with martini glasses, like I imagine coffee on a mug, but if you let it cool morning coffee would taste just as good in milk glass. The place has a man-cave kind of feel for sure. In the back there is a pool table (put a quarter down if you wan to play) that is often populated. If you never play pool, find an opponent that is at your level, and you will grow to understand its purpose. But if you play someone better than you will just hate the game. More broadly, this is true about life, that is why equity for all lives matter.
