I have been coming here for 15 years. Three cars. I would never think to go anywhere else. The owner employs the same level or better Honda Techs you'll find at a dealership. If you're looking for lower cost through discount labor rates this is not the place. Your SIGNIFICANT cost savings come from this: I have had my car at a dealership several times over the years. The dreaded moment comes when the service writer comes out to tell you the bad news. You need 11 things (real number from one experience) done immediately. I thanked the service writer, asked for a copy and bought it to Compact. Two of the eleven were "Do it now" required. 7 were done as needed over the next 50 or so thousand miles. AND 120,000 miles later, two of the recommendations on that clipboard never came to pass. I can't begin to calculate my savings. But what is priceless is knowing I'm family and in good hands. read more

First time customer for a standard mileage level service. When I arrived he asked me if I "had been quoted a price". Huh? Are there different prices? Depending on what? I had no prior price quote, so said OK to the price he gave me on the spot. I was surprised by the price and his reply was, "It's your call." When it came time to pay, I was given a price about 15% higher! When I questioned it, then the charges started coming off. in addition, having to pay a 2% fee to use a credit card is outrageous. As with any establishment, that is one of their costs of doing business. A good business factors all costs into the prices they charge. i will not return to a place that does not treat their customers as welcomed. read more

I recently was awarded a $5,000 judgment in Mecklenburg County Small Claims Court against Compact Car Service. Anyone can search up the case. That introduction likely says enough, but I would not recommend you bring your car here for service. In June, Compact Car Service replaced the front axles on my 2014 Honda Civic, a car that has an automatic transmission. However, instead of installing axles meant for an automatic transmission vehicle, they installed axles meant for a manual transmission vehicle. I had two different shops diagnose this same error, including an actual Honda dealership. As a result of the wrong axles being installed, my car was completely destroyed, I broke down on the side of the road in a different state and had to have an entirely new transmission installed after having the car towed back to my house. This was an extremely expensive and time-consuming endeavor. I had been taking my Civics to Compact Car Service for seven years prior to this error with only good things to say, and I completely understand that mistakes happen. The most egregious part of the entire experience was their response. When I reached out to Compact Car Service informing them of the error, they informed me that there was no possibility they could be responsible and would take no steps to even look at the car or acknowledge the possibility. Since they would not acknowledge any possibility of wrongdoing, I was forced to file a lawsuit. Compact Car Service, I imagine through their insurance company, brought a team of lawyers to argue that no wrongdoing had occurred. Fortunately, the judge agreed with the findings of the other mechanics, and they were obligated to make a $5,000 payment (an amount that does not come close to making me whole, but at least it's done now). If you come here, hopefully nothing goes wrong with your car because if it does, it will be a six-month legal battle and extremely expensive to get them to take any form of accountability. I imagine someone from the company will contest the contents of this review, but the case and its conclusion are public record for anyone to see for themselves. I advise in the future that Compact Car Service understands that mistakes can occur and at least tries to act like the responsible small business they claim to be. read more

7 months ago an oil change was $39.15. Now it is $41.90. Why can't my paycheck go up every few months too? Paid $400 for a recommended major service and was baffled by the statement listing what was done.Glorified oil change? I felt ripped off. Recommend better communication and clarification on what a person is paying for and justification for the price. I am to blame for not pushing for an explanation of what was being done and if was really necessary. Another time quoted $290 to replace front brakes and rotors. I decided to forego that service and had my mechanic friend take care of it for me this one time. Sometimes a gal has to decide between groceries or brakes. I chose food! I still bring my car here for oil changes. I like the staff. I can make an appointment and the work gets done. Plus I really do not care to find another mechanic. read more

My 2008 Honda Civic's A/C had been an issue for 3 years. I'd taken it to a franchise that replaced the compressor, condenser and various lines. Finally the end of summer 2022 they told me it was leaking Freon and they could Not find the leak, even after using the dye. They would fill it and drive around, come back and check it, for it to be low on Freon again. So when it warmed up this early March I searched garages with a Honda specialty and found the Best Reviews on Compact Car Service. And it's TRUE ! They quickly found the leaks, called me & gave me the estimate to repair. The leaks were at the firewall and also at the O Ring. I'm So Happy and driving with A/C ! This is now the second time I have been ripped off by this shop. The 1st time it was $135 to change a RELAY for an AC unit (a $10 part that plugs into the fuse panel!!) and took them literally 10minutes to figure out. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and figured maybe there was more to the diagnostic work even though it only took them like I said 10 minutes. Now today I give them a second chance.... Guys, $295 to change 6 spark plugs is absolutely ridiculous! No idea how in the world this place has such high reviews! The ONLY explanation would be they are riding on the coat tails of Johnny, the original founder of this business, who is unfortunately now deceased. The word on the street (and online if you're so inclined to look) Johnny was an honest and reasonably priced business man...Trust me on this, you may as well just go to the Honda dealership and pay the same price. read more

From the time my parents moved to Charlotte in the early 80's, until they moved in 2001, they brought their cars here. Any time I was in town, I always did the same. There are several reasons for that. After moving back to Charlotte a couple of weeks ago from the West Coast, I heard a funny noise coming from the rear axle of my '05 S2000. Even though it's clear on the other side of town from where I'm living, my first thought was to take her over to Compact Car to check it out. Even though I walked in during a pretty busy afternoon, I was helped promptly by a service tech, who knew exactly what questions to ask about any other problems I'd had with the car, and inside of half an hour he was pulling it back up in front of the waiting area. The diagnosis was what I had pretty much suspected- a loose axle nut- and when I asked him how much I owed him, he shrugged and said not to worry about it. This is how customer service is supposed to be done, and needless to say I'll be bringing my baby back there for an oil change next week. Honest folks, more than fair prices, and quality of work. That's why my family's been going to Compact Car for 20+ years, and as long as I'm in NC, they'll work on any Hondas that I own. One more thing: I just called here to schedule more service on my car, and they had me in their computer system from the last time I had a car worked on by them- TEN YEARS AGO. I have a Honda Civic 06' 4 door. I was experiencing some squeaking noises coming from my front brakes. I know off the bat it was probably time to get new brakes pads, etc. I was recommended by a dear family to come to Compact Cars. I went for a consultation- was pleased with the way the receptionist were so kind and helpful, the mechanics- easy to understand unlike most mechanics in town. I love this place! I have been a customer for many years and I ALWAYS have a wonderful experience. Randy and Keith own this business, and they run it with honesty and integrity. They tell you if something needs to be replaced or has more life in it. I have never felt taken advantage of or been treated differently because I'm female. A+++ service!! In a panic I called Compact after Costco told me that what I thought was an under-inflated wheel due to a slow leak was a steering fluid leak on the left front and some other leak on the right front - all this the day before I needed to make a 9 hour drive with 2 young kids. Compact fit me in within hours, looked it thoroughly yet quickly (he even tried driving it to see if he could replicate the squealing sound) and gave me the ok to make the trip. There wasn't anything that Costco said, and the one thing he did find said it could wait until I returned and gave me a reasonable price for that work (and I mean reasonable - $150 not $400+). I made the trip with no problems. I was keeping my kids occupied for the shot time we were there, but I saw two other people working on their computers - they have TV trays that you can use. I have just returned to Charlotte and need a mechanic for my aging minivan, and I typically am not able to drop off and return. I'm glad I have a place to do to and be able to work while I wait. read more

This is how your mechanic should be. Honest, friendly, with fair prices. I am a new customer here, just got back home from my 3rd visit here over the last 6 months. This time it was just a simple oil and transmission fluid change, and a battery/alternator check. I love how they come out to the waiting area and teach you about how your car works. It is like they are a surgeon and they are telling you the pros/cons of what needs to be done. There is also no pressure to get services done to your vehicle. They will tell you honestly if something needs to be fixed asap, or if it can wait. So far, they have saved me about $300 over what Metro Honda was going to charge me for the same services. They also gave me the option to use Honda parts or 3rd party on a previous issue, which is great because I prefer to use Honda parts. I have no worries when bringing my car here. I know they are going to quote me a fair price, and the work perform is going to be at a higher level than any other place in town. read more

Great experience! I took my vehicle another repair shop because I was having trouble getting my car out of park. The problem was so bad that I had to use an emergency shift release trick each time I wanted to go into reserve or drive. A total nightmare! Well, after calling the shop for status updates for 2 days and having two guys work on the diagnostic, they finally recommend that I replace the shift interlock solenoid at a cost of over $500. I was highly skeptical and called Compact Car Service for a 2nd opinion. Robin put me through to Keith and after explaining the issue, Keith says that he has NEVER replaced a shift interlock because it's normally something else like a faulty brake light switch causing the problem. He recommended that I not get the repairs done and give him a chance to look at it. I was impressed that he seemed to be able to assess the situation over the phone whereas the other shop took 2 days and 2 mechanics to give me an answer! I called the other repair shop back and explained that I did not want to get the repairs and would pick up my car the following morning. I get to the other shop and am told that they have done "a reset" on the car so I will be able to get it out of shift but it will act up again soon. Sounded fishy to me. If doing a "reset" was an option all along why am I just hearing about it? Anyways, I drop the car off at Compact and within a couple of hours I receive a call from Keith. He could not get the gear shift to stick and asked me how I was able to get the car there. I explain about the "reset" done at the other shop. Keith says there is no such thing as a reset! I am so glad I didn't get the repairs. Keith recommended that I replace the brake light switch. I give the go ahead, my car is ready 1 hour later, and the total bill comes to $60 (the same price as the diagnostic at the other shop). I have had no problems with the car since. I am thankful for Keith and Compact Car Service. The service is top notch, the prices are reasonable, and the expertise is unmatched! read more

Beyond awesome..I have used their service a half dozen times...Once, when it turned out to be something that I was doing wrong, that was not a car issue but they still took the better part of an hour looking things over they would not charge me because..and I am quoting the owner "we didn't do anything" Lets face it..at a dealer, if your car heads into a service bay you are automatically out more than a hundred bucks before someone puts the car on a lift. Another time there was a VERY subtle sound coming from the engine,,They had the car in three times to try to diagnose the issue,,,they listened to videos from service bulletins from Honda..but THEY WOULD NOT charge me a cent until they actually "laid hands on the car" They finally did diagnose the issue,,,we decided it did not have to be dealt with till I needed a valve job and did not charge me. When I had the valve job we corrected the problem..it turned out to be something that would not have affected my car or its performance..just a nuisance noise. The above being said, I HAVE had service done there. Their prices are much better than any dealer and MOST IMPORTANTLY when you drive away you know that someone who gives a darn has properly diagnosed and fixed your problem and has charged you a reasonable price to do so. How many times have you left a dealer with that not so peaceful, not so easy feeling wondering if they ever addressed the actual problem you came in for even though your wallet feels significantly lighter? read more

Thumbs up on everything else with the FYI of tires and rear brakes to keep an eye on. They didn't 'sell' me additional services like I've experienced elsewhere almost as each time I brought my 2008 CRV in for regular maintenance.
