I hate to leave a bad review on a local business but unfortunately I have to in this case. I came to get an oil change and specifically asked if they would check my fluid levels and air pressure and top them off if needed. Oil change came out to be $99 and the front desk worker did confirm they did a full check on my car including fluids and tire pressure. Well, the next day I checked and my tire pressures were low (around 25 PSI when they're supposed to be 32) and my power steering fluid was also very low. I guess they did a good job on the oil change part but not sure what I paid so much for if I ended up having to refill everything else myself. read more

This is my second time coming to CMD. Bill & the other man that work at the front are amazing. My car wouldn't start this morning & I took it here to get tested, but was worried I wouldn't have time to fix it because I had to go into work. They immediately got my car in , tested , quoted for a new battery , and are installing all under 20 mins. Extremely dishonest automotive shop. They stated my fuel sending units were bad and needed to be replaced so I had them replace them. Fast forward to a few months later they charged me $150 to tell me my car was out of gas and the fuel tank was damaged . Why didn't they tell me my fuel tank was damaged before they had me replace the sending units (which I now know were functional the whole time) AVOID THIS SHOP LIKE THE PLAGUE. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO DEAL WITH DISHONESTY AND OVERCHARGING FOR WORK THAT YOU DONT NEED DONE. read more

I have a older truck and asked if they could inst a power steering system. That is all I asked for. They said bring it by and leave it and they would give me an estimate. when i came to pick it up and get the estimate they charged me 140$ for the estimate. The mechanic said he couldn't install it and he was told to do a complete exam of the truck which took 2 hrs. I never asked/agreed/approved of this exam. I left with nothing but a bill. Took car to this shop on two occasions. On both occasions they charged double the price or more for parts! Examples: Ford part 8s4z8k556a has a MSRP of $41, can be had for low $30 range from many online Ford part dealers. CMD charged $72.96! Ford part 5s4z6038cb has MSRP of $111.52 and is available at over 50 online Ford part dealers in the $70 range. CMD charged $178.88! Standard 9008 Halogen headlight bulb CMD:$28.53 + $38 labor. Amazon.$9.50 The worst part is that CMD replaced the engine & tranny mounts based on a complaint of driving vibrations -even though it was mentioned that the mounts were replaced at another shop 20K ago. This didn't fix the problem because they either didn't diagnose the complaint at all or misdiagnosed the problem when *bad wheel bearings* was actually the culprit (another shop correctly diagnosed). Also, this is my second attempt to voice my complaint on Yelp about this shop. They had my original review completely removed from Yelp due to a technicality. This was to hide their business tactics and keep future customers ignorant. I would not recommend this shop at all. If you do end up getting work done here, I would definitely do a quick part search price comparison from your initial quote!! read more

This review is regarding CMD's customer service, not the quality of their repairs. I called asking to make an appointment, that's it. The guy said to bring my car in and they'll look at it "before lunch." I again said I'd like to make an appointment so I don't have to wait. His response was that they "start looking at the cars at their own pace, and customer don't dictate that." He proceeded to say "if that doesn't work for you that's fine." That was my first time calling! The level of unprofessionalism is unprecedented. Few other service providers are willing to lose customers just like that. Honest and reliable. I have used CMD Automotive since they opened in the 90s and have never had a bad experience with them. Owners Jim and Dwight understand how to run a business, hire excellent employees and they know cars too. The desk staff are professional and helpful, but I appreciate that you can usually find the owners in back with the mechanics working on cars. If CMD recommends something to me, I never worry that I am being given something I don't need. They have steered me right so many times over the years that I trust that what they say is true and that my car will be well maintained. My cars are well maintained, and customer service is excellent. The shop is conveniently located near Dilworth/Southend and Downtown Charlotte off South Blvd behind the Pepsi Plant (Marsh Rd / NewBern near Remount Rd). Wow! I've always been so thrown off by many mechanic shops (such as common), but CMD totally went above and beyond in great customer service and mechanic work for my first visit! They weren't out to take advantage of the customer and their money, these folks are sincere and honest in their work. One quote for a certain part was too high then CMD worked with me in finding the perfect value part fit for my car's needs. Getting the job done was seamless. Dropped off the car on day 1 for the diagnostic and dropped off the car again on day 3 when the part arrived for them to perform the job. Just like that, my car was the happiest with a healed check engine light for a great price. I recommend everyone to give this shop a try! Brought my VW Jetta in for an oil change and was extremely impressed from start to finish. They are very busy but were still able to schedule me same week. They are very familiar and knowledgeable with German cars. I had to stay and wait for my vehicle and they did a full inspection and oil change and got me out in an hour. Finding a good mechanic can be tough, especially when you are new to a city. I feel very fortunate to have found CMD as I feel they are kind, honest, and know what they are taking about. The mechanics are willing to explain exactly what is wrong with your vehicle (in a language you can understand) and will tell you what needs to be done to fix it without selling you on unnecessary parts and labor. My experience with CMD was that they are friendly yet overpriced. I was charged more for labor than the actual parts. The job was never completed properly and I took it to the Honda Service where I was charged a minimum amount for labor and the car was actually fixed. Referred by a foreign car friend who I will speak with. Took my Z4 in for convertible top repairs and tire check. It was the left rear that needed replacing; I was told 'at least the rear 2 [run-flat] tires need replacing'. That's okay. To follow with a quote for a convertible top motor $777, and then a day later, $1000 for the hydraulic unit, both prices parts only, is gross overcharging in my estimation. Check the prices yourself. I don't expect anybody to be perfect, who is. What frustrates me about this place is every time I've used them and had an issue it's not about apologizing for the mistake and making it right, its ALL about the excuses. I get a pre-purchase inspection for a truck I'm interested in buying. They find nothing of note and give it a strong buy recommendation. Weeks later the shocks are ready to be replaced. Could've used that to negotiate the price down. CMD's response? "Our inspector was probably really busy and that's why they missed it". So I can only expect descent service when they're really slow? So I write them off. Then a year later I need to get my yearly state inspection. I take it to CMD against my better judgment because of the convenience factor, I can literally see them from my office, and I figure they can't screw this up. If they miss something they are screwing the government over, not me. I call ahead of time and ask when I need to drop it off so it'll be done by 1pm. They tell me 11:15 and I can wait if I'd like. No I'm going to go grab lunch and I'll be back by 1. I get back and they haven't even started yet. CMD's response? "Our inspector took an early lunch and also we ran out of stickers because it's the end of the month." It's the 19th by the way. I would've been willing to cut this place so much slack because of the convenience to my office and even with that going for them they still screwed it up. First of all... I love Joe and Jim! I've always had good experience with CMD. They have worked on 3 of my cars. I was looking for a place to take my Pontiac 10 years ago and I was so satisfied with their work and the prices weren't bad either. They give me recommendations and when I should get it fixed or how long I have to get it fixed. When I brought my 2011 Camry, I took it right to them for pre-purchase look over. Joe told me that if I got a good deal on it, then I should go for it. He also gave me a few cosmetic recommendation on it. Lately, when I've been trying to get in, they have always needed me to leave my car. I brought my Camry in for oil change one morning I was off around 8:30 and Joe was very apologetic and told me that he probably couldn't get to me til around 10. I didn't have a ride home or anywhere to go so I just took it somewhere else and was home by 10. I called for my oil change again and it was the same thing. This time I called and they told me to drop it off (it wasn't Joe) and they'd get it done. I still have no way to work so I took it somewhere else that weekend. Just recently, I called in because I trust them so much that I keep calling. I'm having an a/c issue and spoke with Robert, he was very pleasant the first time I spoke with him and I made arrangement to bring my car. I spoke with the next day and told him I needed to bring it in another day and I let him know that I spoke with my warranty company and my a/c is covered depending on what the issue is. Well that's when it went bad with Robert. He told me they generally DON'T deal with after market warranty companies and they are going to have to have payment before my car can leave. So they may have to keep my car for a couple of days until they can contact the warranty company for payment. CMD has never kept my car for a couple of days. (this was new to me because I was NEVER told that you guys don't deal with warranty companies). Joe ALWAYS took care of that! He would let me know what the warranty company were paying for and gave me MY total. And Robert goes on to say that if it takes too long for my warranty company to pick up the phone and he has a customer in front of him, he would take care of that customer first and hang up on the warranty company if he's holding. Lastly, he goes to say "well we've only worked on your Camry once". Excuse me, I've had 2 other cars that came through there. I don't know what that has to do with anything anyway. I've been a customer longer than just this Camry and maybe even longer than Robert has been there. I don't know. So I've had more than just this warranty (if that's what he was getting at). I really don't know. All I can say is I'm truly upset that Joe is gone. And I'm now looking for somewhere else to trust my car with. This saddens me. This has nothing to do with Jim or anything against him. However, in a place of business, you have to get the customer in the door. read more

I went to CMD 6 days ago to have my Toyota Rav4 inspected. Let me give you some quick background info. My car is 11 years old. It is/was in great shape. I taken it to Toyota Dealerships to get the regular maintenance since I've owned the car. Since I have moved to Charlotte I have had two bad experiences each at a different Toyota Dealership. The first dealership I suspected altered 'something' and caused a sluggishness problem. The maintainence at second dealership left my car with a rotten eggs smell (claiming something about the car wash equipment), told me I needed new spark plugs and powersteering fluid (both done in 2015 in Dallas, TX Toyota) and told me my car was sluggish. Really okay. Disgusting because I know I wasn't having that problem until I took my car to the first dealership. So I did some research, heard a bunch of good things about CMD and decide to give them a try. They sounded positive on the phone and told me I could possibly have to wait a while in order for them to check out the car. Fine. I drive down there from North Charlotte with some of my paperwork from the dealerships I've been to. I showed them the paperwork and wanted to find out the cause of the sluggishness and to check if my car had be 'altered' in anyway. Particularly exhaust system. Both guys working at the desk are looking at me like I didn't belong there. They weren't smiling and everything was one word answers. No response to my attempt at small talk. They did a test drive almost immediately (even though the guy on the phone said I'd be waiting a while) told me nothing was wrong. It was like 'get the heck out of here with your car' attitude. I'm not sure if they were intimidated by the fact that I brought the paperwork from the dealership, or whether they don't like us folk from North Charlotte or what. I was very disappointed in the way they treated me. All I was trying to do was find a good mechanic to take care of my car so I could stop going to these bad Toyota dealerships. read more
