So disappointed... I brought my mom here for Mother's Day, as we love to go thrift shopping, I was trying on clothes and had to leave my cart unattended, I'm not sure if a worker thought I had abandoned my cart but it was nowhere to be found once I got out the fitting room. Paced the whole store three times to try and find it and even asked an associate. I am sure it wasn't a customer cause it wouldn't make sense as I didn't really have anything "valuable" nor was it in the way of an isle. I hope to be able to keep my cart next time... left empty handed and super devastated. The fun of shopping at these locations is the rare find, it just sucks to know I might not be able to find those pieces again because of a disgruntled volunteer :/ read more

This was the first time I went there with friends. It was a spacious clean place. Everything was organized. They have vintage modern you name it. The furniture is reasonably priced . They have kitchen beautiful kitchen ware books toys and of course cloths. I bought a plaque a pair of earrings and comfy pants. There was plenty of parking. They have a reward program with phone number. Today wS 25% off . Thursday senior discount 20% I will most certainly go back again. Checking out was easy with friendly staff. I washed the cloths because that's what I do but they were hung and wrinkled . Great job read more

Great store!!! Prices pretty reasonable. HUGE selection for clothing, books, kitchen and collectibles. Neat, clean. Friendly staff. Has rooms to try on clothes. I needed new slacks and was able to find several pairs (which is difficult with longer inseams). Furniture is ok, have to get the best pieces right away. This place is a pretty is a pretty decent thrift store. The best thing is there's about five of them in a row within a mile of each other.

I discovered this store through Colin Smith's radio broadcast on Moody Radio 90.1fm Open the Bible (formerly Unlocking the Bible). They would promote the store as supporting Christian ministries in the area. This was years before covid when they had just relocated to this Arlington Heights location. Everytime I purchased a bunch of books, they would tell me no charge for bibles. I thought that was a nice gesture. I recently bought a few odds and ends and a couple books for the first time since covid. One book was a kids bible and I asked if they were still giving bibles away free. They lady seemed offensive and said, "Oh no, we don't give bibles out because that offends people. We've never given out bibles." She proceeded to hand me a flyer which advertised Home of the Sparrow and what they support. She said in fact she use to be in charge of sorting out the books and they told her to remove all the bibles because they can not sell bibles. Unfortunately I could not read the flyer because it was in Spanish. The items in the store have gone up it price. Just really sad how they have to single out and ban bibles at a store that once was Christian related. I am thankful she didn't confiscate the kids bible I had. The Action Bible that was a hardback book in comic form. I really love it. read more

They say they close at 5 on Saturday, but they start turning the lights off 20 minutes prior so you can't see or shop. The photo was taken exactly at 4:50PM when they announced the store was closing in 10 minutes. So why are the lights off? I don't know, perhaps if you say you're open until 5 leave the lights on until 5. This tactic of getting people to the front isn't it. The constant reminders from the workers are enough. read more

I love thrifting, however the prices in these stores are ridiculously high. I can get new , non stained or chipped items at stores for less. Walmart, 5 Below, Dollar Store has such cute things now. I can get flower pots for less than $10 and if it doesn't work out I can return them! I know thrifting is better but not when the prices are higher. A few doors down is Treasure Hunters, go there on the cheap days. Much better value. read more

It's your typical thrift store but with a little more morals and a little more jazz. I do like what they stand for unlike the typical goodwill or whatever those other one's are named (it's super early in my world right now, lol). They are non profit and all the money that they make is donated, but get this, the whole staff are made up of volunteers! How great is that and it's a great way to give back. The location is very spacious and it's actually bigger on the inside then how it looks on the outside. The staff at the counter are very friendly. Called ahead and told them we had a couch in great condition, loaded it up and brought it over and was denied donation by the grease ball in the back because he didn't feel like unloading it front the truck. On the way it started to mist and he claimed the couch was "drenched" even though his associate said she would take it no problem. Missed out on a donation. Maybe consider hiring men who have muscle so they can lift heavy donations. read more

Pretty good pricing especially on the designer options but the owner definitely ruins the experience. I completely understand wanting people to be out of your store when closing hits but I find it rude that they turn the lights off in every area except for the cash register 30 minutes before closing. A simple "we are closing in 30 minutes" announcement would get the job done and would definitely help sales. I saw 3 customers completely leave their stuff after the lights were pulled after they announced that it was not necessary and ruined the experience completely. read more

I visited this store again, and I still think it can be a bit expensive, especially for "juniors" style clothing. However, I was sort of was wishing I could transplant this store to Vancouver after this visit. I am not quite sure how I am going to get my new rolling closet ($20) to Whistler, but I shall do it, eventually. There was also a narrow shelf that would be great in small space (always useful), and another cute dress that was 10 dollars. It is always hard to rate thrift stores because the merchandise is so variable, but I definitely think the strongest areas here are in the furniture, housewares, art (which is nicely displayed so it doesn't get damaged), and dress departments. (However, I did not look menswear and I only glanced at the children's department briefly.) I also noticed this store sells mattresses. They looked new, but are, apparently, recycled. They claim these are as clean or cleaner than new mattresses. They are made by a company with "Chicago" in the name (I hope it's local). I didn't quite understand how you would judge the firmness, which the most important part of mattress, but it was intriguing. If I was looking at buying a mattress in this area, instead of in Vancouver, I would consider it. I think the soft surfaces are new and the hard elements have been recycled, but I not completely sure. I have never considered a "used" mattress, but a "recycled" one might be a possibility. I like the idea anyway. They also seem to be having a lot of sales here on my last visit. The only issue is it is that a little hard to keep up with these sales unless you like their Facebook page or give them your email. Usually, I am not really into thrift sale items, unless I want the item in question anyway, I'm not buying it. Since the "juniors" and "moderate" brands are more expensive here though, it actually may make some items more appealing to me. I still wish they would get rid he pricing system, because used Old Navy is not the same as used Ann Taylor, but it is a pleasant shopping experience. The place also get points from me for the recycled mattresses, because that is really different. It's definitely worth a look, if you like thrift or resale stores. It's on the same street as the Salvation Army, Goodwill, and Lucille's. Rand Road in Arlington Heights is turning into a small thrift store row. If you like books, you can start further a little further up the road in Palatine and hit the Half-Price Books too. read more

The book section is what gets this to a 2 star...i love finding older well loved books and have found a handful here. What drags this down for me is the pricing... almost everything is very overpriced for a thrift store. The worst part though... and what will keep me from coming back, is that their plus sized clothing is priced more expensively than their "regular" sized counterparts. Fat phobia, Sizeism and Discrimination are horrible things to encounter in any situation... but even worse at a Christian charities store. read more

They actually did read my last review and improved the check out process by putting in ropes and signs to direct customers to the check out line. I used to love this store...than they were purchased. Their prices skyrocketed to levels that are higher than buying something used on eBay. For example, there was a Patagonia sweatshirt that I was interested in, it normally retails for around 100$, I picked it up thinking it was just like the good old days, where prices were like...a resale store. The reality was the sweatshirt was 35$ even though the sweatshirt was far off from new. I looked on eBay, and I saw the exact same sweatshirt in better condition, for only 20$. This is my favorite thrift shop. The store is big and airy. Most important, there isn't a "thrift shop" smell. As with all thrift shops, shopping can be hit or miss. The prices can be high for non clothing items only. I saw used coffee pots for $12. The same week the exact brand was on sale at Macy's for $9.99 new! That being said , they have great sales. I like this thrift store. The prices are a little high for goods but when I find something I like, it holds up. I particularly love browsing their furniture. They sometimes get some nice pieces in. I bought a bookcase here for $60 and it's really nice and sturdy. It held up being moved from Arlington Heights to the city. So while this place isn't the bargain other thrift stores are, they do get quality items and they price them appropriately. read more

This is a fantastic store! It was recommended to me that I visit when I was in town. They have great goods for great prices, and I think the layout of their store is really cool. It's almost as if they took the "coolness" of Urban Outfitters and applied it to a thrift store. The atmosphere is a relaxed, warm, industrial chic with bright colors, friendly volunteers and lots of space to explore. It didn't feel like you just walked into your grandmother's dusty basement with flowery couches and dusty lamps like many other thrift stores do. I enjoyed not feeling crammed into a space with too much merchandise. In other stores I've found myself rubbing up against people everywhere because there's just too much merch out. That said, it's a pretty big store which means lots of stuff to find (which I did :) ). Apparently their business model is pretty awesome too. They give money to local people in need and the store runs primarily on volunteers! It's pretty impressive. It seems that most of the people working there do it because they want to, which makes for a really enjoyable shopping experience. In terms of thrift and goods, this place does it right. I'm not sure why other people are complaining about a few random mis-priced items or things that should be in "designer" but weren't...this is a thrift store, they must go through so much stuff in a week that things are going to fall through the cracks. I thought the prices were fair for the most part and the quality of stuff was higher than most. Anyway, I wanted to help support a local business that's trying to do good things for their community. Bright and clean, and I always find an armful of must have items. This is a thrift store, and it's wares are entirely dependent on donations. If you don't find something you liked this week, there will be more inventory next week. No two items are the same, and items move rapidly. My favorite sections are: Knick knacks: tons of pretty little things to collect and cherish. Jewelry: They have several sections of jewelry, and I like to pursue it to grab a couple cheap necklaces. Purses: Tons of great finds here too Shoes: Note - there is a boot section at the back. Lots of lightly used shoes, for fantastic prices Clothes: - very nicely organized by color and size. You'll find a large selection. The only con is that this place is a little more than say, Salvation Army. This place is cleaner though, and the volunteer staff is always friendly and helpful. This is what thrifting is about. Affordable brand names, and huge selection. First off I want to start off my saying the mens section is HUGE. We probably spent an hour in this section looking through all the clothes and my friend ended up getting over 12 shirts! I unfortunately couldn't find anything I liked but seriously, this place is amazing! My friend's totally for 12 shirts only came up to about 12 dollars because they had crazy sales. Next time we're in town we're definitely coming back, but look out for sales here because this is the best thrift shop in town! read more

Everything is quite affordable and the selection is fairly good. All sections seem to be well organized making it easy to find what you are hunting for. Sometimes the store offers great deals. One of the last times I went, I got 12 shirts which were buy two get the third free! My friend and I visited this location at least a month after our first visit. We found the selection was nearly identical to the last time we came. That is the only negative aspect of this location. Honestly, this place is a bit over priced. I came here TWICE within a month and had TERRIBLE experience. First time I was overcharged.... the woman did not apologize. The cashier was too busy gossiping amd talking. I believe her name is Lissa. I talked to the manager which she gave me store credit. The manager did not know how to handle the situation or explained to me why I couldn't get my money back. Today, I came in and I bought a few stuff with my store credit. This young girl took care of me but she was rude and you could tell she did not want to be there. She didn't say what my total was all she said was "you want to use your 10 or 5 " . I was confused, so I told her I had store credit and she talked so loud to me and said I KNOW! Your total is $10. She could have told me my total was $10. Oh AND I was being watched like if I would steal an item from there.... smh This is RIDICULOUS!! They can keep my store credit. I'm definitely not coming back and will not recommend this place read more

I love, love, love the New Community Threads location on Rand road. Not only is the new store filled with great deals, but the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm hello by the cashier. The new space is welcoming, bright and colorful. The signage is excellent and I could find my way easily to the deals. The display racks leave plenty of room so that I can easily see what was available. The store is extremely clean. I've been in resale shops that are totally disorganized. Not this store. It is very well organized and you can tell well run. I was impressed with the quality of the merchandise. I am into antiquing and I was pleasantly surprised to see some antiques in the store as well...I purchased a few tops and a nice home decor piece. When I got to check out, I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was a buy one, get one free sale going on. The clothes are well organized and color coordinated .... amazing. I wish I had more time there - I know that I would have found more treasures. I don't have young children, but I did notice how there are loads of clean, fun toys and clothes or kids. I like the way the store is sectioned off to give privacy to parents with children and privacy for adults without kids. It is obvious that whoever did the floor plan really put thought into how I, as a customer ,would experience the store. Next time, I will check out the housewares and jewelry section! Great thrift store that I gladly drive out of the way for every month or so. An extensive furniture/housewares and clothing selection with highlights that include: a well-organized jewelry area including a whole wall of vintage clip ons for 50cents to 2/3 bucks, lots of glassware sets in addition to singles, large kids area (including clothing and furnishings), a discount area in back with two rows of goods severely discounted.
