So the manager wants the customer to go looking for lower prices? Shouldn't the prices already be low enough that the customer doesn't have to go look else were?. Prices should already be lower. Not to mention you can't even ask for a lower price bc employees are trained to say they can't. So Mr manager...you're gonna tell me that a 5 gallon bucket of "recycled paint" at $95 is a good price? Gd greedy ass people. Bet the owner is driving around in a new $70k car read more

This place is great. It's cavernous. Hopefully they have what you need. It's a fun place to wander through. You'll find things that you didn't know.you need. I wish their prices were a little better. It's stuff you can't.fimd anywhere else, but if they don't have it, you don't have a lot of other options - try Baltimore. read more

You can find excellent materials at a low price. Most are left over from job sites or specific projects. Totally worth it.

What a great way to reuse and recycle items for home improvement. They have old tools, gently used cabinets, vanities, brick and masonry, large appliances, plumbing supplies, lighting, etc. everything is sectioned out so that things are easy to find. The prices seem to be cheaper than big box retailers like home depot and Lowe's. If you're looking for more of a rustic touch to your finishes or just like to go thrifting for housewares, this is the place. I think it's really cool that they are keeping all these things out of landfills and helping to further the life of items by allowing people to buy these items to improve their homes in a DIY kinda way. read more

If you're on the hunt for vintage lighting, this local architectural salvage store is definitely worth a visit. They have a solid selection of fixtures from every decade of the 20th century up to modern day--whether you're restoring a historic home or just want something with character, there's a good chance you'll find it here. Bonus points: proceeds go to a good cause, which makes shopping feel even better. That said, it can be a bit hit or miss depending on what you're looking for, and the pricing isn't always the best deal. Being the closest salvage store of its kind to D.C., the prices probably reflect the demand for historic renovations in the area. Personally, my favorite spot is Second Chance up in Baltimore, but I always swing by here first before making the drive north. Overall, it's a fun treasure hunt. If you enjoy digging for unique finds and love a little architectural history, this place is worth checking out. read more

Just outside D.C. is a massive warehouse with reclaimed furniture, antiques, books, tools, and material for all sorts of house and art projects. Some come to donate goods (check their website on what donations they accept) and some come to shop. Price tags are on each item and there are many steals like $1 old records. There's a free parking lot across the street. read more

If you are remodeling or decorating a home, this is definitely a place that you want to have on your list. They have an amazing selection of all things, construction and decor. A strong selection of doors, windows, hardware appliances, toilets, sinks, trim, etc. I found the furniture section to be the weakest. I found the tile selection to be the strongest. The space is large and well organized and if you sign up with your Facebook or Instagram, you can get updates on new offerings read more

It's a bit hit or miss here... some unique items, some common old stuff, some deals, some misinformed prices! Categories with checking out: - Framed art. I got a very large chrome framed and matted picture of a Cadillac (donated by dealership?) for $35. Obviously I'm not keeping the picture, but great price for vintage frame in excellent condition. - Tile - Furniture and lighting - some deals to be found if you're handy and willing to refinish or reupholster - Doors - a wide selection. I was really inspired to come back and install a door for my closet! read more

Looking for tile for a kitchen remodel and found this place on the Internet. Had to go to IKEA and decided to stop by and found the perfect tile for the backsplash. It was 1/4 the cost of the lowest price tile we shopped at a tile store. So excited to see it installed and worth the hour drive from where we live in Virginia. Warehouse is tucked away in a non-descript industrial area. Parking across the street in a dirt lot. Huge building with tons of stuff everywhere and spent most all of our time in the tile aisle. Lots of odds and ends and if you're looking for a large project it would be hard to find the tile but if it's a small job there were some options. I'd imagine in changes often as they sell out. Kids loved to look with lots of interesting items, like a WWII bomb spread throughout the store. Friendly people, well organized, spread out. Most importantly, you get to reduce, reuse, recycle and support their charity functions. Will be back to start any big project. Very interested in the old movie theater seating for our home theater. read more

Screw Community Forklift. I have the paperhanging tables and tools that my father and I used from the time I turned 12 until he could no longer work side jobs. I am now 68, so the equipment has some miles on it. It's stained, which is disqualifying for a donation. It has no bearing on the functionality of the equipment. Community Forklift apparently wants pretty tools, not useful ones. I'd steer clear of these charlatans. I want to provide a leg up to an aspiring paperhanger, a trade that supported two families for years. Sadly, my stuff is not pretty. What pretentious bullshit. read more

We made our first trip here for a hutch. The one they put on facebook had already been snatched up but I was willing to go look and see what else they had. Got exactly what I needed, a nice 1940s wood corner hutch, which will work fantastically in our very small dining room. Pros: So much stuff. Browsing is awesome. Staff was SUPER friendly and helpful even though they were super busy. Shout out to Andre! There were plenty of pieces to choose from, and while I know nothing about toilets, vanities, plumbing, locks, knobs, and stuff like that, everything looked to be in really good order and organization. It looks like a lot to keep track of. And yes, if you're not super educated in how-to or DIY, you're better off at Home Depot where things are a bit more plentiful, out of the box new, and more to your needs. Cons: loading dock is way too high up in the air, really hard to get items into hatchbacks/smaller vehicles. A ramp would be great. After taking measurements, our hutch was not going to fit into our vehicle, they gave us the name of someone who came and picked up the hutch and delivered it to our house. That guy charged a little more than I was happy with but in the end, I didn't have to throw my back out or get into an argument with my husband about turning the corner into the living room. Dude was a pro, and positioned the piece right where I wanted it. Worth the price in the end. I could have bought a chintzy piece from IKEA for more, and probably have it bust into pieces the next time I move, or me lose all the dumb pegs and screws if I go to take it apart. The piece I bought, and a lot of the other furniture, reminds me of the real quality stuff I wish we still had access to from our grandparents' homes. Construction waste is a problem in this world. Companies like this and Restore for Habitat for Humanity provide do-it-yourselfers and people who don't have West Elm money the opportunity to buy nice things. Go just to browse. Maybe you'll find something you like. read more

Bottom Line: An enormous warehouse where reclaimed home furnishings, antiques and other items are available for purchase. This place is fascinating. They have more colored toilets from the 1960s than my parent's house! Whether you are renovating, decorating or just curious, Community Forklift is worth a gander and I promise they have more here than pink, blue and yellow toilets. Here is what you can expect to find here: - Items salvaged from homes like lighting fixtures, banisters, doors, hardware, hardwood floors, tubs, appliances, etc. Some items are clearly from historic homes whereas other items are used but still usable "modern" items. - Furniture like bed frames, bookshelves and dining tables. - Antiques and collectibles like milk jugs, mason jars, farm tools and kitchen gadgets. - Lots of light fixtures ranging. From dainty to massive. - Landscaping and hard scraping supplies like bricks, pavers and fountains. - Inspiration for renovating your homes and tons of DIY projects If you do purchase something here, be prepared to load it yourself. Probably for liability reasons, Community Forklift has a strict policy preventing them from helping customers to load issues. Also, the warehouse is neither heated nor air conditioned so be sure to dress accordingly. If you've been to Second Chance in Baltimore, Community Forklift is very similar. read more

If you don't need a whole pallet or that impossible to find part /antique. This is a great spot to try your luck.

Terribly overpriced on items that you may want and even more overpriced on items most people do not want. I think it's a great idea but if you really want to help out the community stop selling items at such an overpriced margin. I get it if you have really extreme and rare items, sell them at a higher rate but EVERYTHING is overpriced. Even items that you can get brand new somewhere else are more expensive here. If the mission is to keep items out of landfills and truly reuse it, do sell a garbage unmatched green toilet for $265 or a "vintage" yellow tooth brush holder for $35...it wasn't cool in the 60's to 80's. I first came here to look for old doors and the price per door was $250. People are donating everything and this nonprofit is making quite a profit. read more

If you're looking for reclaimed doors or donated excess tile, it's worth going but be prepared to pay. I find their prices ridiculously high. Just for example, the hinge, $15 for it and w/o a match mind you. Can you use just one hinge? Idk. Those metal chairs?..wait for it...$180 EACH!!! They are hollow core iron, not heavy, nothing special. I mean you've got to be joking. They do bring the prices down as items don't sell so if you're going every couple weeks and you're diligent, you might find that needle in a haystack...something interesting for a decent price. read more

Interesting spot and worth a lookeyloo by any self proclaimed DIY'er. I've redone every room in my house except one...the master bath. Oh! Why do you plague me so?!?! But, I'm ready to remedy that so off to CF I go. I was able to find floor tile but the search for usable granite continues. If you do find granite or marble be aware they don't cut on premises. You purchase and ya haul it to where you can have it cut. Whatever ya don't need...well...it's kind of a "you keep what you kill" sitch so get to building monuments with the extra. They have a book of recommended spots that will cut for you. read more

This place is the best. I got a wardrobe and couch. The staff helped to load them in our van, and all the staff I saw were wearing masks. It seems like they get new stuff in all the time. The prices are extremely fair. Their Instagram account is really fun too. One downside is there isn't air conditioning so it's super hot in the summer, I'd recommend bringing a cold drink or buying one from their vending machine if you go on a hot day. read more

2.5 stars Whether you're looking for a little junk in your trunk, vintage for your veranda, antiques for your area, or a clawfoot tub for your tootsies, this place has potential...for a price. Maybe shows like American Pickers, Flea Market Flip or Antiques Roadshow are the reason you'll be forking over a few Benjamins at this Forklift. But would Frank and Mike from American Pickers pay $16 for a Mrs. Butterworths maple syrup container in poor condition? Heck no. Sure, there was some roadside signage proclaiming a 20-something percent discount, but it still couldn't justify some of the prices. The atmosphere: Imagine what would happen if Habitat for Humanity stores had a baby with a contractor's dumpster, the dent and ding section from Home Depot, Adams Morgan's Brass Knob, your Grandpappy's attic, a hillbilly's front yard and a neighborhood yard sale. It's dusty, dark and dingy like a hardware store living on the island of Misfit Toys. Cheers: Places like this are great for the tactile inclined. I touch everything. There are plenty of doodads, trinkets and junk that begs to be handled. There's a variety of stuff (I.e. appliances, wood, tiles, toilets, light fixtures, tubs, paint, tools, door knobs, tables, desks, art, dressers, neon signs) Jeers: The three D's (Dusty, dark and dingy) usually mean that its a buyers market. I think that ship has sailed- at least for everything I put my hands on. Sure, there was a Herman Miller desk. Sure, I saw an Eames chair and some teak furniture that could possibly make Don Draper salivate. Pristine condition? No. Dents and dings? Yes. Needs refurbishing? Yes. Overpriced for all of the above. Yes. Verdict: May be fun to play, think twice before you pay read more

The selection of household items is very impressive. However, I feel $825 for pink toilet, sink, and tub is ridiculously overpriced. I know, the Mad Men trend is hot now, but my mom was told that if she wanted to sell her 60s era home she'd have to update her main bathroom. Goodbye pink. Hello white! I know, I know. They are an incredibly green business, which I applaud. They save the landfills from overflowing. That's a good thing. I often donate items I don't need through freecycle.org. It's just that many of the items that have been removed from homes being revamped or demolished were not carefully removed, like the corner cabinet I looked at. It had gashes in the side and exposed nails still intact. Plus, everything is dirty; no curb appeal. Renovators could probably find items here to restore historic homes. That have rows of dishwasher and ovens; many priced only slightly lower than some independent stores I have been to. And there are antiques - priced like you'd find at an antique store. They had the exact same framed print on the wall that I bought at a yard sale. Their price: $28. My price: $3. And my frame is nicer. Isn't the point to move the stuff out? The one thing I would buy here is the builder surplus items. I saw some sweet slabs of marble for $75 each. Those had 'Sold' signs stuck to them. Community Forklift does wonderful things such as fixing up homes for the elderly or disadvantaged. It's nice that they are here, and I applaud their efforts to make our world a better place. read more

We are renovating our basement and needed new kitchen cabinets. A friend recommended community forklift and we were soon lost in a huge warehouse of all things home related. Pros: great selection, fair prices for the most part, interesting and unique items. Cons: all the kitchen cabinets sets that they had were too expensive, too beat up or too large for what we needed. We still left with a $20 ( yes you saw that right!) nearly new mini fridge for the office and a wonderful living room chair. Overall great experience. read more

It's a playground for DIYers. Come once and find something special or come often if you are looking for something specific. The items are always changing. They have everything from roof supplies, paint, windows, electrical equipment, appliances, lighting, bathroom fixtures including tubs and toilets, tile, doors interior and exterior, shutters, hard wood flooring, stair railing, stone, bricks, patio furniture, tools, door fixtures, granite and marble slabs, live edge wood slabs, etc. etc.! Honestly, I don't know how to rate this place. It's a warehouse full of organized junk, and I mean that in the nicest possible way because what's junk to one man is treasure to another. So you might want to think of this as a treasure trove! They have all sorts of unique things for an eclectic home remodel or refit and it is very well organized. On the down side, it's really dusty and yucky, and some of the things seem a bit picked over. But I'm rating it as a 5-star because I don't know where else you could find such an array of parts for a house. It's pretty impressive! The warehouse is located on the edge of town. There is ample parking. It's sort of set back across some train tracks in an industrial area. The other patrons are pretty cool and when I was there they consisted of hipsters trying to find a good deal, yuppies trying to do a cool home remodel, and us (I was looking for parts for a desk). The people working there are, I think, volunteers, and they must works their butts off. They are super cool and fun to talk to, if you can get one of them (there aren't a ton). This is truly a labor of love for them. This place has just about everything: from small screws to bathtubs, to random assortments of boards, to chemistry glassware, to furniture. It's a wealth of home building materials. Sure, you have to get a bit lucky or spend a lot of time monitoring their social media posts. But if you are playing the remodel game or just want to get some interesting pieces you can refinish, unique parts that they just don't make anymore, or maybe find a great deal on a clawfoot bathtub, this is your place! read more

Vintage meets charity! As other yelpers have mentioned, this is a great place to browse. Much like TJ Maxx or Ross, you're not guaranteed the same stuff each time you go, so definitely come when you have plenty of time to peruse their sections. I found fantastic doors (for headboards), overhead lights and unusual tile during my last visit. I also noticed they have TONS of granite slabs, so if you're renovating a bathroom or kitchen, check this place out 1st. The prices are indeed a little high, but don't be afraid to negotiate a bit - they're somewhat flexible on stuff. (Though, don't be a cheapskate and negotiate this charity out of all their money - come on now.) I will definitely be back! read more

Got hurt a handful of times here. There's a semi cool collection of things but nothing is secure. I'm surprised this place can operate like this. Don't recommend going alone if you're not super educated in hardware stuff / renovations and you don't have lots of muscle. read more

Expect to be overcharged a lot for almost everything. For old kitchen cabinets, junked appliances, and beat up wood these folks are asking almost new prices in some cases. I walked through the store comparing new prices for stuff online with their used prices and was very disappointed by what I saw. I have donated furniture to them in the past, was previously a customer, and like what they say their mission is, but the prices they charge in this place are insultingly high. It makes me question the overall organization and dedication to their mission. read more

We attended the First Friday event and it was a fun way to spend a few hours with a food truck and a fiddler on stage where there was a little outdoor seating. Community Forklift is dog friendly indoors and also in the salvage yard so you can peruse their goods and exercise your dog at the same time. They also had face painting and stuff for kids at First Friday. The concept of Community Forklift is to connect people who need to buy something for their home with re-useable resources no longer needed from other homes. They reclaim materials from old homes (double-hung windows, Georgian doors, Victorian lamps, base boards, plantation shutters, fireplaces, old furniture, kitchen ware, period hard ware, entire kitchens' cabinets and work surfaces, sinks, toilets, tubs, fridges, washers - you name it) and sell them at a reasonable price. It's more expensive than a thrift store or a consignment store and they always know when they have something highly valuable - so no absolute steals here- but it's still much cheaper than buying new and more eco friendly. You just have to be willing to put in the work to make these items really shine again as CF does little prep beyond adding a price tab and basic electrical testing. At First Friday, the lines for the specialty stall (the fabric section) were long so we didn't go in there but I saw some shoppers come out with armfuls of nice-looking material. We bought a gorgeous ceiling light fixture for $50 and an aluminum muffin tin for $3. Both require considerable work to get them looking new but I prefer this over sending them to a landfill. read more

I keep going every year or so, and never end up buying anything. I walk around and say to myself, "who would pay that much for this thing?" I really want to like this place, but it's just not good. The materials are way overpriced, if you can even find the price. There is really no one there willing to help, and they have signs up that say if there is no price, then you can't buy it. One example: I saw an interesting salvaged door today, and it had an 800 dollar price tag. Really? Is this an auction house or a "community fork lift"? I went today, and another time, to find salvage lumber. There was no price on any of the lumber. The really good stuff was very minimal (maybe 10 pieces) and it was behind a chain with a sign that said "ask for help." I'm really done visiting this place. Two stars instead of one because of the concept. read more
