I would recommend using Hudson & Crane design services to anyone! My husband and I moved into a new home and wanted help attaining an entirely fresh, cohesive look for the open layout first floor. The team at Hudson & Crane has given us a GORGEOUS space built around our vision but more wonderful than our wildest dreams. The process began by sharing our design aesthetic ideas, color preferences and goals for our home. The team got to know us personally and helped us articulate the "feel" we were aiming for. They presented a sample design with choices for each item in the look. We were ecstatic with the design, the pieces and how fabulously the team understood our vision! The furniture pieces, wallpapers and lighting choices were beautiful and unique. We knew early on, based on H&C's selections that we were going to be thrilled with the end result. The team has been responsive throughout the process as we made our decisions and awaited pieces. They work with a warehouse that receives, inspects and stores items to be delivered in batches. We've really loved that the pieces are inspected and the team handles any issues seamlessly for us. We are extremely happy with our completed space! I asked for design help and was recommend several items by designer Tucker Riner and the owner Jaye Langmaid. I told them I wanted recommendations on things that would fit in my space. After several offers from them to order paid design services they recommended some items. I ordered 4 pieces from them for almost $3800. I was told it would all arrive in 2 to 4 weeks. I ordered the furniture about 3 and half weeks prior to needing it. I waited 3 weeks and had to inquire about delivery as I had heard nothing in weeks. I was told that the 3rd party company they hire to do the delivery was booked 3 more weeks out. So it would be 6 weeks before I could get anything from the time I ordered. I also discovered that only half the order was in the warehouse and no one knew where the other two items were. Also I found out after receiving the measurements that the items they recommended would not fit in the space I needed them too. I was given the run around several times when I was trying to inquire about the status as no one really knew or had tracking info. At this point I decided I have had enough. I asked them to cancel everything except one piece. I was then informed that there would be a 30% restocking fee for canceling the order for items that were not even in the warehouse yet for delivery. I had received nothing and was told that the fee applies to everything weather they were in stock or not. I was charged over $900 in restocking fees on this order. I was also informed that I would be further charged an additional $200 for delivery of the one piece I needed. Before I wrote this I asked them if we could work out something fair in regards to the restock fee (industry standard is 10 to 20 percent, they charge 30%). Tucker said "sorry read the contract next time". So in summary 1. I was given recommendations for furniture 2. I ordered the items. I was told 2 to 4 weeks 3. I inquire 3 weeks later, no one knows where it is. I also find out the recommended items will not fit on my space. 4. I decide I am over it and cancel. 5. They charge me $900 in restock fees and an additional $200 delivery fee on top of it for one end table. 6. I ask if they can work this out with me on the fees. They say NO! Read the contact. Overall I got one end table and paid $1700 for it. It took over 7 weeks to get it. read more

TL;DR: In-store customer service is great, post-purchase follow-up and delivery, not so much. I love my couch--it's crazy comfortable and soft while still looking really sleek and modern. The chaise option we got is something we can switch from right to left if we ever move, which makes it super functional. Price points were comparable with Room & Board and similar brands. I recently purchased my first home, and wanted my first adult sofa. I LOVE my couch. It's the nicest-looking and most comfortable couch I was able to find in a month-long search at every store possible, Hudson & Crane had several of the most comfortable choices-and by far was the most customizable. Jayne was phenomenal, and if I could give her ten stars I would. I love my new couch and the rad fabric I was able to choose for the pillows and upholstery. Jayne followed up a day or so after delivery to make sure I was happy, and overall the in-store experience was fantastic. Jayne was great about not only giving us time to make a decision (we came back a second time after being unsure our first visit) but also not only remembered us on sight, but remembered our fabric color choices and was just exceptionally kind in helping us figure out our perfect couch. I don't know if they get paid on commission, but if they do a single couch isn't going to make or break her, but she still made us feel valued and never pressured us to buy more, upgrade, or use their design services. (Although she did go over all the services they offer, and if I could have her design me whole home I would!) The only hiccup/reason I'm not 100% thrilled/satisfied with Hudson & Crane has to do with the delivery. For starters, unless you take their floor model, everything is custom and takes 4-8 weeks to ship. So even though we went with a standard fabric and a slightly different shade of grey than the floor model, we had to wait two months. After those two months, we hadn't heard from Hudson & Crane and called to follow up & schedule delivery. The two people we talked to (not Jayne) gave us conflicting information on where the sofa was and when it would arrive, and were a bit rude/accusatory when I tried to clarify what I had been told and when I could expect delivery. One of the two women I spoke with was almost angry, demanding to know who I had talked to (as though I was lying and making up sofa stories?!) All in all we got our sofa delivered, but if the exceptional customer service we had experienced in the store had been replicated throughout the process (perhaps if they had initiated a call to update us/schedule delivery instead of our having to do so and then being told conflicting information) this would have been perfect! read more

Jaye Langmaid, and his entire team at Hudson & Crane (major shout out to Tucker, in particular), is an absolute interior design GENIUS. I gave him carte blanche control over my living and dining space in my new condo, and he went far beyond exceeding my expectations. His taste is absolutely impeccable. (You think you have great taste. Until you see his.) Beyond his unimpeachable taste, Jaye is an absolute dream to work with. The whole process -- like the final product -- is seamlessly curated. From my very first meeting with Jaye in my space, he wanted to know exactly how and why I planned to use the space. He helped me to understand what styles, colors, moods I like. And then...just like that...he went above and beyond in delivering to me a final product that I could not have dreamed up in a million years. Jaye is collaborative (which makes his clients feel heard and understood). But, I think even more importantly, he will (so incredibly gently and politely) save you from yourself (when you need saving...and you probably do!). I would encourage everyone not just to hire Jaye, but also to let him do what you hired him for -- to take the lead, to make the hard decisions, to design the space. If you trust him to do that, you will be amazed what he will deliver to you in return. In addition to doing everything (and more) that I originally asked of him, Jaye also used his superior contractor, Charlie (who built me the most lovely breakfast nook seating area), to cosmetically enhance my kitchen. I originally had plans to eventually demolish and re-do my (originally very sad) kitchen. After Jaye/Charlie got done with that space, it's one of my favorite spots in my whole place. (Um...that just saved me more than $50K.) I already have hired Jaye to take on my master bedroom. I can't wait to see what he dreams up for me! read more

Jaye and Tucker are THE BEST!! They singlehandedly transformed our entire house. They are brilliant, creative, kind, funny, and - most importantly - they really GET you. They have a way of understanding your style and translating it into a perfect space for you. I don't know how they do it, but it is truly an art. Also, getting down to brass tacks: their design work, plus the gorgeous custom furniture they select, will cost you the same as if you bought your furniture at C&B or similar. I never knew design work could be within my reach. Don't get me wrong, I love those stores - but we wanted our house to reflect us. We started with our basement - an empty white space with a wet bar. We wanted a place to watch movies and hang out with friends to listen to music. After pinstriped wool felt wallpaper, the comfiest couch and chairs ever, a dining space and a bar, they turned it into our favorite place to hang out! We then moved up to our living room: we wanted to turn a narrow white space into a place that was conducive to talking and eating - whether just us or with friends. They turned it into a space that flowed, felt bigger, and where I've spent many a night talking and eating with family and friends late into the night. Finally, we did the upstairs. I needed more closet space, a calm soothing bedroom, a more efficient (but not sterile!) office for my husband, with a space to sit so he could take a break from his desk, and finally, a den/guest room (with a pull out sleeper). We are almost finished with the upstairs (finishing touches needed) but the photos should give you an idea! Jaye and Tucker's vision and their remarkable use of space made our house our favorite place where every corner has a (beautiful) purpose. Truly, these guys are the best. I can't recommend Hudson and Crane highly enough for anyone looking for new furniture or design help. My wife and I bought a DC rowhome in February and moved in just before the pandemic made it difficult/impossible to shop for furniture in person. We had some old Ikea furniture we wanted to upgrade and several new rooms to furnish (living, dining, and master bedroom), and I honestly don't know what we would have done without H&C. There are so many reasons why I think working with H&C is a better option than attempting to shop for furniture yourself, especially during the pandemic. Here are just a few: first (and most importantly), the furniture they selected for us is absolutely beautiful, it fits our design preferences perfectly, and it's exceptional quality. Jaye and Tucker spent a ton of time learning our preferences and our practical needs, and delivered a design plan that blew us away. Second, H&C worked within our budget, and we wound up spending less money than if we had designed the house ourselves. We worried that a designer might push us to go over budget, but our experience was the opposite - often times the pieces H&C chose for us were less expensive than ones we might have chosen ourselves. And we didn't have to sacrifice in quality either; if anything, the pieces they selected are nicer than what we thought we could afford. One reason why is that H&C offers a discount when purchasing furniture through them, which allowed us to get some amazing deals. Third (and this one is especially important during a pandemic), H&C removed the hesitation we had about purchasing furniture without being able to see it in person. Their expertise gave us the confidence to take some risks, and we're so happy we did: some of our favorite pieces are ones we likely wouldn't have bought without their encouragement. And they gave us peace of mind: for instance, they guaranteed us that if any piece didn't fit in its designated space (or worse, didn't fit through our narrow door), they would offer a replacement free of charge. Finally, H&C gave us incredible service. As an example, when our couch was delivered, we realized (through no fault of H&C's) that we had made a mistake in selecting cushions that were too soft for our personal preferences. We told Jaye, and he went above and beyond to help us. The couch was custom-made and therefore not returnable, but Jaye took it back anyway, and without charging us anything extra, ordered a nearly-identical couch with firmer cushions that were exactly what we wanted. We're so glad that we chose H&C to help design our home. Even in the middle of a pandemic, they helped us select beautiful, quality furniture at reasonable prices. And with us spending more time at home than ever, we couldn't be happier with the comfort, function, and beauty of H&C's design. read more

I bought a Michael sofa from this store. One of the legs of the sofa broke a little over a year later. It has been almost 2.5 months since I submitted the paperwork to the store-gifted 5-year Guardsman protection plan. I've now been told it will take another 2-4 weeks for the new leg to arrive because they are processing orders in the sequence in which they have arrived. Who would have thought Hudson & Crane would align their badly made products with such a poor protection plan? This store is a waste of your time and money Update, in response to store owner's response on 4/24. FYI, the sofa was bought in July 2016. I have the receipt. I thought I'd go out on a limb to see if Hudson & Crane could hook me up with some goodies to give them as an engagement gift. My expectations were completely exceeded from the moment they responded to my somewhat odd request. Not only were they super friendly, generous, polite, timely, and professional - but the little complimentary package they put together for me was amazing! No other store in DC has done that for me, so, good on you, store. I've been slowly cycling out my Craigslist chic furniture for newer furniture, and this is the store I have reliably turned to. I've wanted to check out this store for so long and since I recently moved into my new apartment I finally had the chance to! This place is so awesome. They have the coolest, eclectic, rustic with a chic twist furniture and decor! They have something for everyone and every taste. I will say their selection isn't ginormous but they do have a lot to chose from. What I liked was that if you purchased something you could take it home then and there, even the couches. This is huge considering most furniture places you have to wait 3+ weeks for delivery. While I was here I bought some really cool coasters that were handmade and had different photos of different parts and things in DC! The prices here vary for different items. Some were pretty pricey then other pieces were reasonable. I would like to comment on the staff since they were really pleasant. Not over bearing and annoying while looking around but also helpful and talkative if you engage in with them. I discovered Hudson & Crane one day while browsing Instagram, and decided that I needed to make a trip to the store. I was looking for a new sofa and accessories, but had no clue how long the process would take or how complicated it would be. To my surprise, the staff was super friendly, even going as far as picking out pillows to go with my color scheme! I was able to pick out a sofa, figure out what fabric I wanted (they have so many to choose from!) and sit on their many sofas in the store to decide how much fluff I wanted -- you have the option to upgrade to down comfort for a little bit more! The checkout was simple, and what sold me on buying their product was that it had a 5 year warranty for no extra price (think: red wine spills), and all of the furniture is made in America. The staff emailed me and told me they would update me on the progress of my sofa, which should be ready in ~6 weeks. The delivery is included in the price, which is wonderful. I stumbled upon Hudson & Crane online but didn't entirely understand how they operated until a visit. Hudson & Crane has an amazing variety of furniture, accessories, and small gifts, as well as a friendly welcoming staff. The BEST feature about Hudson & Crane is the store model and unique approach to access of stylish, present-day furnishing at all price points. While the store inventory may appear to be the floor merchandise, I was explained by Jaye Langmaid (owner & awesome designer) is just a sample and, designers have access to help you find what you need in your price/style. Even better, the cost of retaining their decorators, also with varying price levels, can be credited back to your purchase. My husband, a very reluctant shopper and usually disinterested in style (comfort only) immediately loved the store and their concept. We had never used a decorator and was incredibly amazed and impressed at how valuable it was. Jaye gave us individual design homework (which was fun and easy), before coming to our home, which engaged my otherwise indifferent husband. We are still at the beginning stages, but having 3 floors to work on, I trust Hudson & Crane will be our store of choice. We truly look forward to working with them. After a horrible experience with mold left me with very little furniture after a move, I got in touch with Hudson and Crane because I couldn't imagine picking out everything I needed to start over on my own. I had lived in DC for five years with the same furniture that my family gave me when I came back Stateside from living overseas. Do NOT do the design service. Because I liked the furniture and decor of the store, I decided I would look into the design service. I met with a designer in the store and we discussed the process, and I decided to go with the $350 package that included an in-home visit and a credit when I eventually bought items at the store. The first visit was great and the designer seemed excited and had tons of great ideas, and in fact I was excited to see what he would recommend. But what followed was incredibly frustrating. We met on February 10th, and I knew it would take a few weeks (he mentioned several times that there would be a roughly two week time before he sent the design ideas) so I waited. I reached out in mid March and instead of sending anything, he suggested we meet in person. I agreed, and 90 minutes before we were supposed to meet (I'd cancelled work appointments in advance to meet with him), he emails me to say his car has broken down but that he would email me with the design as soon as he left the shop. At this point, I was suspicious that he again hadn't done anything for the design and was making excuses, but I figured I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. But then again, weeks go by, and nothing. I finally asked for a refund and I get an email saying he thought he'd already sent the design. He finally sends me a design but what it is is five pics of items from the store that are so far off the mark from what we'd discussed (including my one no-go of anything brass and of course he chooses a giant brass entertainment center). He clearly spent five minutes choosing a few items. He also said he'd send a separate "concept" slide that of course he never ended up sending (because he never did it). $350 for a lot of waiting and excuses. read more

We worked with Hudson & Crane to furnish two bedrooms in a condo we had just purchased, and it proved to be a great experience. First, they helped us determine what our taste was to begin with, by having us go through style magazines and comment on what we liked, didn't like, and more importantly why. They then presented us with several rounds of suggested furniture pieces and after some back and forth we settled on everything we wanted. Getting the furniture took a little long, but this is often true when getting furniture from anywhere, and H&C was very helpful installing everything when we got the delivery. We found the most perfect design (Chill) which I am now referring to as my nap island. Jaye patiently and expertly guided us through finding the perfect fabric that is a wonderful mix of comfort, funk and practicality (pets). I don't even know where to begin reviewing this place, it's simply amazing. It's like everything you want west elm to be, but better. They have unique pieces, so you know all of your friends won't have them, and their prices are beyond reasonable. From couches to bar carts to a handheld mirror that made me feel like Snow White, I wanted to buy everything. I told the super friendly guys that worked there that I couldn't leave until I looked at everything so they made me a cocktail as I browsed and chatted for the next hour. I just want to say that Joseph and his coworker are phenomenal! They were apart of the delivery team that recently delivered my couch and chairs. They were extremely polite and even went out of their way to help me stage the pieces. They polished the wooden legs and added grips to the bottoms for nonslip (at no additional charge).
