Located at the very top of a building giving you beautiful views of downtown. Parking is very difficult in the area. Most spots are metered. Free parking on Sunday. You walk in the building near where the menu is posted outside and go upstairs to the top floor. The hostess was very nice and even told us the best seats at the bar to enjoy the view! The interior is beautiful, 5 star environment. They have a small amount of outside seating as well. Tried: Deviled eggs $7 - came with 3 pieces. One still had an eggshell on it that we unfortunately bit into. The eggs didn't seem to have anything special about them. Skip these. French Omelette $30: You can upgrade to egg whites for $4 more. If you are thinking this dish is a healthier option, it's not. This was cooked in a stick of butter. It was oozing butter on the plate and glistening on top. The outside had chives and inside was filled with cheese and a very small amount of enoki mushrooms. The side salad was chip like potatoes with frisée on top. The omelette was very thin. Taste was okay. Breakfast burger $22 - cooked a perfect medium. Burger and fries were excellent. Very messy to eat with your hands. Recommend to order this. Kyoto coffee $7 - just okay. There are better coffee shops in the area. Note they have a 4% surcharge added to each check. Service was okay, we did not get water refills and it was very difficult to waive someone down to pay the bill. This was a very expensive meal but is definitely worth visiting at least once for the environment.
Came here for drinks so this review will only be for that. We came here pre a dinner reservation we had down the street. The view is indeed, stunning. When you come here for drinks you cannot sit at any tables so you'll either be at the bar or outside at the outside bar that does not face downtown. The service was by far our highlight. We were lucky enough to be served by Eliza who was the bartender. Her drink (the Mai tai) won the award for the best Mai tai. The Mai Tai was a great drink. We also had their dealers choice drink which she made as a play on a mojito. Fantastic. She was great at asking us what we wanted and making the perfect answer to that. Everyone we dealt with at the bar was absolutely lovely. Their service was tremendous and again special shout out to Eliza who set the tone for everyone there. We will come back specifically because of her. Please note the only dock on the star is for the pricing (38 dollars for two drinks) was a lot. Mix that in with an odd wait time (you arrive at the courtyard on the first floor, check in, then wait for an oddly long time to be sent up). When we got to the bar there were still more than a few seats so unclear why we had to wait so long. We did not have food so cannot comment on that. Parking can be rough here but we allotted for that. Across the street on Fort Stockton drive there is a paid lot after 5. Otherwise it's street. That can take a hot second so come prepared for that.
Went to Communion as part of San Diego restaurant week. It was a good value at $75 per person and getting a small discount based on the normal prices. Started the meal with the brioche which is topped with honey and chives. The grilled fennel may have been my favorite bite of the meal when getting all aspects of the dish. The iteration of the pasta was different from anything we have ever had and really enjoyed it. I didn't enjoy the lemon almond cake much but the panna cotta was very good. A great rooftop restaurant with a great cocktail and wine list.
Communion.. Another Date Night Gem. You enter from an elevator that takes you from a courtyard to the top of the building. The views of San Diego extend 360. The ambiance is white centered with splashes of pink, purple and other colors. HIGHLY RECOMMEND sit at the bar for Happy Hour. We got to enjoy the whole happy hour menu. Let me lead with the fact the have a plentiful selection of Gluten-Free options! The Penthouse Nugz!! 10/10, these in house Chicken Nuggets were hands down the best take on nuggets ever. And the Dill forward ranch topped it off!! The Oysters were fresh and flavorful. The Fried Artichokes had a consistent crispness, and very flavorful sauce. The House Spiced fries and the aioli!!! Amazing!!! The drinks were awesome, very attentive bartenders. We will be back.
Best Birthday Dinner Celebration Spot (or Anniversary, or Just Because YOU deserve a wonderful meal!!!!!) What an absolutely special dining experience! This gorgeous Mission Hills restaurant, filled with flowers and butterflies, has THE BEST service in San Diego!!! Jay and Sydny made this dining moment truly exceptional! We felt the love right when we were greeted and seated by Sydny. She was so friendly and kind, and took amazing care of us. She sat us at an outside table with THE perfect view from the 8th floor (though it seems like ALL of the seating has a perfect view)! We could see from downtown San Diego all the way to Mt Helix!! Jay walked us down the exquisite dinner menu options and gave us all the details on the new fall menu. This menu is so fresh and bright (Jay's words), and the fall menu is to die for! You're off to a great start when your drink is dynamite! I ordered the fleeting flowers and It was almost too pretty to drink! And it tastes so pretty, too! Even the brioche bread with fresh herbs on top and salted butter on the side were absolute perfection! The appetizers are lovely-we had the suppli al telefono and the grilled fennel. These were both enjoyed so much, my BF ate all of the suppli! I couldn't even get one bite! And the creamy cacio y pepe sauce-Oh My Goodness!!!! The mains- the pappardelle ripiene and the crab stuffed sole were so comforting and off the charts with flavor! As for dessert-the bourbon bonfire (chocolate s'mores) was so deeply boozy-chocolaty, yummy and FUN! I loved the caramelized marshmallow topper! And the Fall Panne Cotta-it was so crunchy and silky, tart and sweet, all at the same time, if that's even possible (it is)! Communion was a 20 out of 10. Many thanks to Sydny and Jay for their fantastic care and service. We loved every minute! I can't wait to try brunch or sit at the stunning bar for happy hour!!
This review is for their happy hour: my bestie and I went to communion on a Monday (when happy hour is all night!) right at 4pm when they open. The courtyard to the elevator before going to the roof is adorable too. My friend was getting some work done there while waiting for me We got to the restaurant and pictures do not do this place justice. The view is beautiful! 360 degrees of the skyline, water, and mission valley. The decor and vibe of the inside was bright and summery. There's also seats outside on the patio to really enjoy the view We were sat at the bar where Angel (main bartender) and Armando took care of us. They were friendly and attentive. My friend got the tincho and guava margarita (seasonal) both were tasty and refreshing. I got a dealers choice where the spirit of the day was amaro (?) and I prefer more refreshing drinks, so Angel made me something that was so smooth, light, and it tasted like a cocktail I've never had before. I also got a smoke in the grass from their regular menu but subbed gin for the mezcal since I'm not the biggest fan of the smokiness. It was floral, herbal, and fresh. We also ordered everything from their happy hour menu minus the oysters. Our favs were the fries that were crispy, well seasoned, good portion. And the chicken skewer that was juicy, flavorful, and a little spicy. The nugz and fried artichokes were tasty but probably wouldn't get them again. We added the house brioche and it was delicious. The brioche was fluffy and sweet plus the combo of salt, honey, chives on top with the butter was chefs kiss. I definitely recommend for a good happy hour with great vibes and service and will be back :)

We went during happy hour on a Monday night and sat at the bar, then watched the sunset. I don't think many people know about this restaurant but they should! We got the steak frites, chicken skewer, and fish in a chip. Service from host and servers and bartenders was excellent! I cannot wait to go back!
We returned to communion and their new chef is great! We highly enjoyed their last chef as well. We ordered a few items and shared everything. We also brought our own bottles of wine and the corkage fee was only $35 with a 2 bottle max. Brioche loaf- it had honey drizzled over it. It was good but it was sweet. Ahi Amarillo tiradito- absolutely fantastic. Little gem salad- so fresh and the shaved carrots - yummy! The chef gave us a melon salad (not on the menu on the website) that was so delicious, fresh and perfectly ripe. Hanger steak- very cooked perfectly and seasoned nicely and the onion rings were crispy and very good! Heritage Pork chop (I don't see it on the menu on their website)- it was juicy and tender and big! My husband had a fabulous dish but I can't remember what it was called (not on the menu on the rebate) but it was a crab pave- holy cow it was good. If you like pave and crab- when they are married, they are fantastic! Dessert- creme brûlée and ice cream with espresso over it. The creme brûlée was perfect and my husband definitely enjoyed his ice cream. We of course enjoyed our view and our dinner! We will be back!
**This place has the best bread in San Diego** The bread in Communion is amazing. It comes out warm and soft topped with honey and salt. The butter is sweet. The bread is a bit sticky but it melts in your mouth and it's just so tasty. I only wished they had a cup of coffee so I could enjoy it properly. The rest of the meal is really good too. The chicken nuggets are amazingly good. It's again comes out hot and soft and so flavorful. The zucchini on the menu is the most different but it tasted fresh and Smokey. All of the food had a great flavor profile. Service here is really good. Great staff. The noise in the place is loud from everyone talking. Overall, amazing place!
Communion is a beautiful restaurant. We took an elevator to the top floor where it opened to brightness and windows that showcase downtown and pt. Loma. We were promptly seated and provided water. Our waiter was quick to take our drink and dinner order and we always had a fill up on water. The food was amazing and was served in beautiful china pieces. Will certainly go again.
I went here with a small group to celebrate a birthday. Parking is street parking so plan ahead. You first enter downstairs on the ground floor, where there is a large seating area and a hostess stand to check in. The hostess was very nice and said we could either wait downstairs or head up for our reservation. Since we were early we decided to sit downstairs while we waited for our reservation time. We took some pictures and played a game they had on the table. It was a card game where you ask each other questions to get to know each other better. The questions were very fun and a nice way to pass the time. Once we were ready we took the elevator upstairs to the rooftop for the restaurant is located. It's not a huge space, but very nice. We sat in the corner near the ledge so we had a great view of the area. The server came over and was very nice and went over the menu with us. It's not a huge menu, so unfortunately it is a bit Limited. They do make sure at reservation to ask about dietary issues or allergies, and they review that again at the table to make sure nothing you order interferes with that. We decided to order the bread and the steak frites. The bread was delicious and you definitely want to eat it all. The steak was good and not chewy. It wasn't the best I have had but it was still good and the flavor was nice, nothing too overpowering. The french fries were good as well and made fresh. We also ordered drinks, I went with the Sadie Hawkins which I definitely recommend if you like an old fashioned. It had cherry, and cola reduction, and was a very good take on the drink. Prices were a little expensive but definitely not the most expensive in the area. The Vibes are nice and coming for a sunset dinner like we did is a good idea for a special occasion. We all enjoyed our time.
Their outdoor patio seating has some of the best views of San Diego! Highly recommended anyone to book a spot out there at least once. I timed it close to sunset and even though it was overcast it was still a great view. For dinner we ordered asparagus, salad, and the pasta plate to share. It doesn't sound like much but it was filling. FY they might rotate food options throughout the year. Service was great, the staff were very attentive and friendly the entire time.
My April is off to an amazing start! Last night my girlfriends and I had a rooftop dinner celebrating one of the gal's birthday. We came early and were able to snag one of the free parking spaces in a residential neighborhood 2 blocks away. We were early for our reservation and while waiting for the birthday girl, we took advantage of the beautiful entrance that separated Communion from its sister restaurant, Paradis. Between the 3 of us, I'm sure we snapped about a hundred photos, and more when the 4th member of our party arrived. We were escorted to the elevator where we rode up the to the top floor. The entrance to the restaurant was very welcoming and had the most beautiful ceiling. We were seated at a corner table and had a spectacular view. To start off the evening, we each ordered a drink. I was the designated driver, so I ordered the Pink Moon. One of my friends didn't want the mint that came with her Aurora Borealis, so I added them to mine and it made my drink even better than it already was! If you like pomelo and don't want an alcoholic drink, then I recommend giving it a try. I enjoyed its refreshing taste. We ordered a brioche for the table and can honestly say we could've easily devoured one for each of us! It was coated with honey and came with a side of whipped butter. Make sure you order this, you'll thank me! For my entree, I ordered the Market Catch. The fish of the day was salmon. The salmon was perfectly grilled, juicy on the inside with the skin still crunchy. It was served over a bed of jasmine rice and surrounded by yuzu dashi butter sauce, pickled daikon, turnip, beech mushroom, and toasted sesame. The dish was beautifully plated and cooked to perfection. I was very pleased with my dish and my friends each tried a piece of salmon and agreed it was a masterpiece. I have a bite of the steak frites. The skirt steak was cooked medium rare, just how I like it. The meat was packed with flavor and the right amount of salt. The fries were addicting, but I was good and only had 2 pieces. We ordered the Pistachio Entrement for dessert and the birthday girl got a smaller version of this dessert on the house. If you like Dubai chocolate, the wafers used as the crust gives it a similar taste to Dubai chocolate. I'm sold at pistachio and dark chocolate mousse. I watched my girly figure and only allowed myself a few bites of this incredible dessert. It took some serious willpower not to eat more or to get one all to myself! We had a few servers tend to our table and they all did a great job making sure any crumbs were dusted off the table and water glasses promptly refilled. Our evening was perfect and we definitely want to come back for brunch! They are very busy so make sure you reserve a table in advance! Note: It can be chilly on the rooftop, even with the heat lamps. If you forgot to bring a jacket or wrap, they do have blankets available.

The ambiance was incredible, the food was unbelievably good. And our server, Andrew, might be the best server I've ever had in my life. He made excellent suggestions/recommendations. One of my favorite spots for a cocktail! Inventive and talented bartenders with a range of creative ingredients at their disposal and a ton of skill! For dealer's choice alone, I'd come here over and over again. Then throw in a great happy hour deal!!??? Count me in as a regular until the end of time. Drinks aside- food is so good and filling! Highlights were the burrata and octopus. Over time I hope to try this entire menu. Beautiful view, beautiful food/drink, and beautiful talent! read more
Fun Fact: Communion sits on the eighth floor of a building in Mission Hills, giving you panoramic views of San Diego! - I had been wanting to try Communion, especially because the rooftop setting looked gorgeous. The restaurant is definitely beautiful. The space is modern and moody, with floor-to-ceiling windows and a large outdoor terrace overlooking San Diego. It has that special-occasion feel, and I can see this being a fun spot for drinks around sunset or a dinner when the views are part of the experience. Unfortunately, the food and service didn't quite match the setting for me. Service was pretty slow throughout our meal. Nothing was necessarily terrible, but there were long stretches of waiting, and for a restaurant at this price point, I expected a little more attentiveness and pacing. I could tell the chef was having a hard time too, because we things I rather not say.. but it was a busy night and the staff looked incredibly staffed. We ordered several dishes to share. The brioche was easily the best thing we had. Warm, buttery, soft and just really delicious. Honestly, I could have happily eaten more of that and called it a day. We also tried the quail, which was just okay. It wasn't bad, but it didn't leave much of an impression and wasn't something I'd feel the need to order again. We had a pasta dish as well, it was dry and tasteless - although it looks like the menu has changed quite a bit since my visit. Communion changes its menu frequently, so some of the dishes we had may no longer be offered. And that's really where I landed with the food overall. Nothing was super great, and nothing was extremely terrible, but nothing besides the brioche really wowed me either. For the price and the level of the restaurant, I was expecting more memorable dishes. I do think Communion has a lot going for it. The rooftop views are gorgeous, the restaurant itself is beautifully designed, and the atmosphere definitely makes it feel like somewhere you would take visitors or go for a special occasion. For me, though, the food and slow service kept it from being more than a three-star experience. I'd come back for a drink and the views, but I'm not sure I'd choose it when the food is the main reason for going. Beautiful setting, great views, but the food needs to catch up to the venue. read more

We sat in the corner near the ledge so we had a great view of the area. The server came over and was very nice and went over the menu with us. It's not a huge menu, so unfortunately it is a bit Limited. They do make sure at reservation to ask about dietary issues or allergies, and they review that again at the table to make sure nothing you order interferes with that. We decided to order the bread and the steak frites. The bread was delicious and you definitely want to eat it all. The steak was good and not chewy. It wasn't the best I have had but it was still good and the flavor was nice, nothing too overpowering. The french fries were good as well and made fresh. We also ordered drinks, I went with the Sadie Hawkins which I definitely recommend if you like an old fashioned. It had cherry, and cola reduction, and was a very good take on the drink. Prices were a little expensive but definitely not the most expensive in the area. The Vibes are nice and coming for a sunset dinner like we did is a good idea for a special occasion. Their outdoor patio seating has some of the best views of San Diego! Highly recommended anyone to book a spot out there at least once. I timed it close to sunset and even though it was overcast it was still a great view. For dinner we ordered asparagus, salad, and the pasta plate to share. It doesn't sound like much but it was filling. FY they might rotate food options throughout the year. Service was great, the staff were very attentive and friendly the entire time. read more

My April is off to an amazing start! Last night my girlfriends and I had a rooftop dinner celebrating one of the gal's birthday. We came early and were able to snag one of the free parking spaces in a residential neighborhood 2 blocks away. We were early for our reservation and while waiting for the birthday girl, we took advantage of the beautiful entrance that separated Communion from its sister restaurant, Paradis. Between the 3 of us, I'm sure we snapped about a hundred photos, and more when the 4th member of our party arrived. We were escorted to the elevator where we rode up the to the top floor. The entrance to the restaurant was very welcoming and had the most beautiful ceiling. We were seated at a corner table and had a spectacular view. To start off the evening, we each ordered a drink. I was the designated driver, so I ordered the Pink Moon. One of my friends didn't want the mint that came with her Aurora Borealis, so I added them to mine and it made my drink even better than it already was! If you like pomelo and don't want an alcoholic drink, then I recommend giving it a try. I enjoyed its refreshing taste. We ordered a brioche for the table and can honestly say we could've easily devoured one for each of us! It was coated with honey and came with a side of whipped butter. Make sure you order this, you'll thank me! For my entree, I ordered the Market Catch. The fish of the day was salmon. The salmon was perfectly grilled, juicy on the inside with the skin still crunchy. It was served over a bed of jasmine rice and surrounded by yuzu dashi butter sauce, pickled daikon, turnip, beech mushroom, and toasted sesame. The dish was beautifully plated and cooked to perfection. I was very pleased with my dish and my friends each tried a piece of salmon and agreed it was a masterpiece. I have a bite of the steak frites. The skirt steak was cooked medium rare, just how I like it. The meat was packed with flavor and the right amount of salt. The fries were addicting, but I was good and only had 2 pieces. We ordered the Pistachio Entrement for dessert and the birthday girl got a smaller version of this dessert on the house. If you like Dubai chocolate, the wafers used as the crust gives it a similar taste to Dubai chocolate. I'm sold at pistachio and dark chocolate mousse. I watched my girly figure and only allowed myself a few bites of this incredible dessert. It took some serious willpower not to eat more or to get one all to myself! We had a few servers tend to our table and they all did a great job making sure any crumbs were dusted off the table and water glasses promptly refilled. Our evening was perfect and we definitely want to come back for brunch! They are very busy so make sure you reserve a table in advance! Note: It can be chilly on the rooftop, even with the heat lamps. If you forgot to bring a jacket or wrap, they do have blankets available. read more
Very solid meal with fantastic views of downtown from the rooftop patio area. My party of 3 started off with a Cadillac margarita at the inside bar. We moved to our table where we shared a bottle of wine, ordered the Little Gem Salad with Brioche Loaf and all ordered the steak frites. Let me start by saying I'm extremely selective about where I eat. I cook every meal, track my macros, and when I go out, it has to be WORTH IT. Communion delivered on ambiance and some standout dishes, but it's not perfect across the board. WHAT WORKED: Hamachi Crudo - Buttery perfection with garlic confit, sweet onion, fried leeks, ponzu, and sesame oil. No notes. Focaccia - NOW THIS IS A FOCACCIA, MY FRIENDS! I literally questioned our waiter Daniel to make sure it was genuinely good before ordering because I don't waste carbs on mediocre bread. Worth every bite. Australian Winter Truffle Pasta - Still dreaming about this. Absolutely divine. Yes, it's $50, but if you split it with your table, it's a must-order. Filet Mignon - Perfectly cooked medium rare (if you order steak any other way, we can't be friends ). Tried it with a bite of the truffle pasta and it was HEAVEN. Vanilla Bean Cheesecake - My favorite dessert. The gingersnap crumble, poached pear, and honey caramel combo was chef's kiss. WHAT DIDN'T WORK: Steak Tartare - It's my favorite appetizer ever, so my standards are high. This was good but not the best I've had. The bread it came with was mental though (in a good way). Local Line Caught Swordfish - Dry as hell, unfortunately an absolute pass. The cannellini bean stew had maybe 3 beans total (lmao), but the broth tasted like artichoke and was actually good. THE SERVICE: Daniel G was THE BEST. Attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely cared about our experience. He asked what we didn't get to try and recommended: Local Seabass Ceviche with cucumber, mint, plantain chips Sesame Crusted Ora King Salmon Maple Leaf Duck Duo PRO TIPS: Come with 2-3 people and share dishes (portions are generous, prices are not cheap) Happy Hour is 4-6pm daily + ALL DAY MONDAY with that incredible view Perfect for special occasions, celebrations, or impressive date nights Sunset during happy hour would be incredible THE BOTTOM LINE: Communion is beautiful, the service is top-tier, and when they hit, they HIT. Just be strategic with your ordering. I'd give it a solid 7.5-8/10. Would I come back? Yes, specifically to try Daniel's recommendations and hit that happy hour with the view. read more

Not only are the vibes at Communion immaculate, they are genuinely breathtaking. The views of San Diego are stunning, and the space has been designed beautifully and thoughtfully, plus getting to see the planes fly by is always fun! I've now been twice, once for dinner and again today for brunch with a group of gals, and both were such a treat. For dinner, the sourdough was amazing (no like seriously worth it), the steak frites was perfectly done, and the Basque cheesecake with caramel sauce we all fought over to the last bite (still dream of the caramel sauce btw( Brunch was just as wonderful. The smoked salmon flatbread was so yummy, but the clear winner at our table was the sticky bun. We split one, and it was unbelievably good. The Tincho cocktail was also absolutely delicious and so refreshing and the perfect treat to a Sunday morning. More than anything, the service made the whole experience unforgettable. Abraham, Marissa, and the entire team were so warm, attentive, and kind, and truly made us feel taken care of. You can feel the heart behind this place, and that is what makes it somewhere you want to come back time and time again, truly such a treat! read more
Came for a company happy hour and was beyond impressed. First the view is unbelievable. It's the only tall building in the area and has glass windows on all sides so you can see the city, the ocean, the hills, everything. The happy hour deals were solid and the "Dealer's Choice" drink was awesome. Only $12 where that would easily be a $20 custom drink elsewhere. The bartender asked my preferences for the dealers choice and brought it out and explained the tasting notes. She seemed like the actually cared which was really nice. The Nugz were amazing. Sunday brunch, loved it!!! Brunch is only offered on Sundays and last Sunday of the month, there is a drag show which is featured inside. Tickets for the show are available online. I came here for drag bingo and it was one of the best experiences I could do on a Sunday brunch day. The host was fabulous, entertaining, and fast paced. Bingo was played in between some hilarious performances and well worth the &20 price tag. Wine is included with bingo but I'm glad they could accommodate me and comped my latte instead Onto the food. They make all their baked goods in house so don't miss out on those sticky buns! Best thing hands down. My wild mushroom omelette was very well prepared in the French style- it's always so impressive to me that the egg is cooked evenly all the way around and came with a nice side salad. Also snagged a bite of my friend's salmon flatbread and it was so delicious with th fresh dill and smoked salmon. A major draw for this establishment is also the rooftop view of the San Diego skyline. It made for the perfect ambiance and I have to come back in the evening for date night. This place is truly PHENOMENAL. The service, the vibes, the view... all top notch. But I want to especially shout out Chef Dante and the absolutely mouthwatering food this restaurant serves. Some places have vibes, some have the food and cocktails, this place has BOTH. Let's start with the apps. The Penthouse Nuggets are AMAZING. They are such a fun and delicious appetizer - we even ordered more! The brioche loaf was some of the best bread I've had and the oysters and melon salad were chefs kiss!! For the main meal, the tuna (which I believe was a special!?) was such a unique and memorable combination of flavors, and the pork chop was unreal!! Ambiance 10/10. Service 10/10. Both Top notch. The space is gorgeous and a fantastic spot for prime time sunset viewing with a cocktail. Our server Jay was so great. We absolutely loved celebrating our bdays with him! The food was good. We were there Valentine's Day weekend so they had an option for a prefix menu which was nice. We all got different things so we could sample a variety. Some of the dishes that came out were pretty small. Not a ton of food to split for the price. Others offered up a bit more to them. We loved the patatas bravas and the hamachi appetizers...both of which were pretty tiny portions for 3 people. The ricotta dumpling entree was a bit more hefty, filling and was delicious! All in all would probably go back. Maybe to sit inside and try out their happy hour options. The bill was pretty steep with cocktails included as well, so I would consider it a great place to go for a fun celebration or a nice dinner out, but not really on the regular. read more

I loved the way she didn't rush us at all and went the extra mile to help us find the wine we wanted. Gabriel who came by to fill our waters and check to see who everything was going. 3.5 overall but a restaurant week review Anyway the bartender made amazing drinks. The fresh focaccia is great, especially if you sandwich it with the steak tartare, butter, and aioli 10/10 Crudo was yum as well. Why 3.5? I ordered my filet mignon medium rare. It had a real nice char on top so I thought maybe it's even more done. But while cutting it with my butter knife, it was definitely raw. Returned it and tried the truffle pasta. (Which was actually a "truffle Mac & cheese") As the server placed the dish in front of me, I smelled the strong scent of chlorine. I thought maybe it's the dish itself? No, it was the black truffle. Manager came out and said maybe I'm just not a fan of their truffle and it comes in fresh every day. I am definitely a fan of truffle and every dish I have tried has never gave that scent. So now, as much as I hate complaining at restaurants- I get raw meat. Then I get bad truffle. What am I supposed to do? Whatever at least their dessert was good Cute rooftop bar, nice atmosphere. Slow service. Maybe don't come in on a Friday idk but they did just open I guess So yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa it was good enough. Shrimp pasta though was light & flavorful. Came here for a book club meetup. The restaurant is located on the top floor of a building. You'll need to take an elevator up. The decor is very cute, and the views of downtown San Diego and the ocean are definitely a highlight. My friends and I shared several dishes: - House Spiced Fries (2/5) - Housemade Focaccia (4/5) - Pasta Salad (3/5) - Fried Spanish Artichokes (3/5) - Hamachi Crudo (4/5) The fries had a curry-like spice and came with a basil pesto aioli, but they weren't my favorite. The focaccia was solid and enjoyable. The pasta salad had good flavor, though I wasn't a fan of the noodle texture. The artichokes were a bit soggy, but I did enjoy the sambal aioli they came with. The hamachi crudo had great flavor. It was served with kiwi, passion fruit, habanero, and lotus root. It was one of the better dishes we tried, though the hamachi itself was just decent. Service was okay overall, but it took way too long to get our bill when we were ready to pay. read more

Just came here for brunch for my friend's bday! It was super good and service was great. Love the aesthetic! My friends ordered ordered some adult drinks, and the Kyoto coffee which I think they liked. I got the pink moon which was a refreshingly light grapefruit drink with tajin on the rim, I liked it! We ordered and shared among the 4 of us: the hamburger, the short rib hash and the French toast. I loved them all but I think the French toast was my fav and then the burger, but my friends loved the short rib hash... they thought the burger was too heavy and needed tomato or lettuce. The view is beautiful but we got hot about 3/4 through our meal since it was a warm morning so we were happy to wrap up after about an hour. The food came out in great timing, very nicely played. Water was constantly being poured. Would love to come back for dinner at sunset. read more

TAKING IN COMMUNION (4 stars) ... because THAT view is spectacular! - FOOD: good depending what you order - PRICE: pricy but you pay for the views and quality - SERVICE: good - AMBIANCE: that stunning view! Enter the building. Take a right. Take elevator up to top floor. I was taken by the view! And I loved how it's in the least neighborhood expected / which I prefer (Mission Hills). The view was spectacular - especially during sunset time. You can eat on the patio or inside or at the long u-shape bar. Sitting can be limited and I can see reservations being useful. DEALERS CHOICE ($12) - Japanese gin and yuzu. Yuzu infused cocktail. Seemed to be the popular pick at a glance around with everyone sipping from the same looking glass. This was a citrusy and sour kind of drink since I was looking for something fruity this was recommended. Choose widely, will this pair well with your meal? For me, it didn't. MUSSELS ESCABECHE ($28) - confit garlic and tomato, basil, toasted sour dough. I was expecting seeing the shells but this was served with no shells and a lot of mussel meat! The mussels were cooked good, nice and tender and easy to swallow after minimal chews, but some of my mussels did have grit/sand. The broth was a little tangy and acidic from the tomato sauce but the basil flavor toned it down but another sour flavor from the sour dough. Love the bread and how it rafted even better when dipped into the sauce! Will note, didn't pair well with the Dealers Choice drink.. too many sour and citrus going on. But the dish itself was pretty good. HIGHLY RECOMMEND I def wouldn't mind coming back. Until the next review... read more
Beautiful restaurant for our girl's happy hour date! Located in Mission Hills. Take the elevator up & get ready for beautiful views. Street parking only. We came around 4p so we could catch sunset in time. We were first seated at a table where my 2 friends were facing the views & I, unfortunately, got the view of the back of the restaurant. Thankfully, since we were doing Happy Hour, we were told that we had to sit at the bar where we all were able to get the views. Our bartender was super friendly & made fantastic cocktails. I kept on opting for the bartender's choice & he did not miss! We basically tried everything on the Happy Hour food menu (4p-6p) & my absolute favorites were the Housemade Rosemary Salt Rolls: So fluffy & soft! The butter was to die for! We came after a trip to SeaWorld...without much planning, it was easy to get a table inside. Then we saw the views of the rooftop patio and asked to be moves. They were really nice about it and moved us after we'd already settled in. Overall, this place has great vibes for a date night or girls dinner. I wouldn't say it's the best place for kids since there's no kids menu but I did ask them to modify the pasta dish to be a mac n cheese with no truffle. Sadly, my kid did not enjoy fancy Mac n cheese. He actually did like the steak and veggies. We asked if they had a birthday thing for my son and thought it would be free like is sometimes convention??...but was not. Should have known. Be warned! Food wise I would give it a 3, service is a 4 (slightly slow), so overall...maybe a 3.5 but you can't do that here so I rounded. Short rib- 5/10 it was good but so salty. The polenta wasn't enough to balance the saltiness. Would have preferred rice. Steak- 9/10 good portion and flavor. Would have liked to see brocolini with carrots on that dish too. Pasta - 7/10 fancy but the type of cheese makes the texture kind of off putting. read more

Stopped in for a drink before a dinner reservation across the street on Christmas Eve, despite it being their happy hour hours, they weren't offering HH (maybe because of the holiday?) which was disappointing. read more

Took me a while to get around to this review but I still cannot stop thinking about the special date night I shared with my wife here. The food is incredible, the aesthetic and ambiance is fun, the sunset view spectacular. however, the service is what really set this spot apart. Abe, thank you for being the one to guide us through the drinks and menu and making the evening memorable. If you're stopping by for the first time be sure to ask for Abraham he was incredible! We were celebrating a late Valentine's Day date. And looking back most the items we ordered have already been filtered off the rotating seasonal menu... bittersweet as I'd love to enjoy it all again but nice to know there's a new menu waiting for us every visit. Grill master Aaron cooked our steak to perfection and the poached pear cheesecake cake delivered by pastry chef Hailey was the perfect finish to a much needed night out on the town! Also a shout out to Dan for just being a stud! What a phenomenal team and concept have assembled at this adorable little venue on the hillside in mission hills. When we saw a spot open up for drag bingo brunch, we knew we had to snag it. We were so glad we did. We were greeted by the friendly staff and sat at the bar inside as that's where bingo was being held. We were greeted with their Tincho drink which was quite tasty. I did the mimosa flight. The flavors were very fresh and they are light on the juices! Be warned (in a good way), one flight definitely got me there. I got the bibimbap breakfast. I would definitely not call it authentic, but it was delicious. My wife got the French omelette and she thoroughly enjoyed it. They had several gluten-free options for her. It was a great energy and fun vibe at bingo. Obviously a lot of energy but that's what we signed up for. We will definitely be back to have brunch outside and enjoy the fantastic view from all the seats in the restaurant. read more

Thank you for asking! We serve Happy Hour at the bar and outdoor drink rail seven days a week from 4-6PM and all night on Mondays. The seats are first come, first served. We do not reserve these seats. You can also order off of the regular dining…
Is the restaurant child friendly?
Thank you for asking. We love children and are really friendly. We, however, do not have a children’s menu or room for high chair storage. We have many kids visit who share in the love of our menu and we are happy to assist in modifying something…
Can you go to the bar just for drinks or is a reservation required?
We love welcoming guests for cocktails at the bar. Reservations are not required as it is first come, first served in those seats. It can get pretty busy on the weekends. We hope to welcome you soon. Cheers!
