The views of San Diego are stunning, and the space has been designed beautifully and thoughtfully, plus getting to see the planes fly by is always fun! I've now been twice, once for dinner and again today for brunch with a group of gals, and both were such a treat. For dinner, the sourdough was amazing (no like seriously worth it), the steak frites was perfectly done, and the Basque cheesecake with caramel sauce we all fought over to the last bite (still dream of the caramel sauce btw( Brunch was just as wonderful. The smoked salmon flatbread was so yummy, but the clear winner at our table was the sticky bun. We split one, and it was unbelievably good. The Tincho cocktail was also absolutely delicious and so refreshing and the perfect treat to a Sunday morning. More than anything, the service made the whole experience unforgettable. Let me start by saying I'm extremely selective about where I eat. I cook every meal, track my macros, and when I go out, it has to be WORTH IT. Communion delivered on ambiance and some standout dishes, but it's not perfect across the board. WHAT WORKED: Hamachi Crudo - Buttery perfection with garlic confit, sweet onion, fried leeks, ponzu, and sesame oil. No notes. Focaccia - NOW THIS IS A FOCACCIA, MY FRIENDS! I literally questioned our waiter Daniel to make sure it was genuinely good before ordering because I don't waste carbs on mediocre bread. Worth every bite. Australian Winter Truffle Pasta - Still dreaming about this. Absolutely divine. Yes, it's $50, but if you split it with your table, it's a must-order. Filet Mignon - Perfectly cooked medium rare (if you order steak any other way, we can't be friends ). Tried it with a bite of the truffle pasta and it was HEAVEN. Vanilla Bean Cheesecake - My favorite dessert. The gingersnap crumble, poached pear, and honey caramel combo was chef's kiss. WHAT DIDN'T WORK: Steak Tartare - It's my favorite appetizer ever, so my standards are high. This was good but not the best I've had. The bread it came with was mental though (in a good way). Local Line Caught Swordfish - Dry as hell, unfortunately an absolute pass. The cannellini bean stew had maybe 3 beans total (lmao), but the broth tasted like artichoke and was actually good. Came here for dinner this past Friday night and had such a great evening. The view from the patio is obviously amazing, but the food was really delicious too! Had the lamb, octopus, chicken nuggets, black cod and the cheesecake. All great. The service was also 10/10. We felt very well attended to but not so much that it was overbearing or annoying (as can sometimes happen). Our server's name was Daniel and he was amazing. My April is off to an amazing start! Last night my girlfriends and I had a rooftop dinner celebrating one of the gal's birthday. We came early and were able to snag one of the free parking spaces in a residential neighborhood 2 blocks away. We were early for our reservation and while waiting for the birthday girl, we took advantage of the beautiful entrance that separated Communion from its sister restaurant, Paradis. Between the 3 of us, I'm sure we snapped about a hundred photos, and more when the 4th member of our party arrived. We were escorted to the elevator where we rode up the to the top floor. The entrance to the restaurant was very welcoming and had the most beautiful ceiling. We were seated at a corner table and had a spectacular view. To start off the evening, we each ordered a drink. I was the designated driver, so I ordered the Pink Moon. One of my friends didn't want the mint that came with her Aurora Borealis, so I added them to mine and it made my drink even better than it already was! If you like pomelo and don't want an alcoholic drink, then I recommend giving it a try. I enjoyed its refreshing taste. We ordered a brioche for the table and can honestly say we could've easily devoured one for each of us! It was coated with honey and came with a side of whipped butter. Make sure you order this, you'll thank me! For my entree, I ordered the Market Catch. The fish of the day was salmon. The salmon was perfectly grilled, juicy on the inside with the skin still crunchy. It was served over a bed of jasmine rice and surrounded by yuzu dashi butter sauce, pickled daikon, turnip, beech mushroom, and toasted sesame. The dish was beautifully plated and cooked to perfection. I was very pleased with my dish and my friends each tried a piece of salmon and agreed it was a masterpiece. I have a bite of the steak frites. The skirt steak was cooked medium rare, just how I like it. The meat was packed with flavor and the right amount of salt. The fries were addicting, but I was good and only had 2 pieces. We ordered the Pistachio Entrement for dessert and the birthday girl got a smaller version of this dessert on the house. If you like Dubai chocolate, the wafers used as the crust gives it a similar taste to Dubai chocolate. I'm sold at pistachio and dark chocolate mousse. I watched my girly figure and only allowed myself a few bites of this incredible dessert. It took some serious willpower not to eat more or to get one all to myself! We had a few servers tend to our table and they all did a great job making sure any crumbs were dusted off the table and water glasses promptly refilled. Our evening was perfect and we definitely want to come back for brunch! They are very busy so make sure you reserve a table in advance! Came for a company happy hour and was beyond impressed. First the view is unbelievable. It's the only tall building in the area and has glass windows on all sides so you can see the city, the ocean, the hills, everything. The happy hour deals were solid and the "Dealer's Choice" drink was awesome. Only $12 where that would easily be a $20 custom drink elsewhere. The bartender asked my preferences for the dealers choice and brought it out and explained the tasting notes. She seemed like the actually cared which was really nice. The Nugz were amazing. I came here for drag bingo and it was one of the best experiences I could do on a Sunday brunch day. The host was fabulous, entertaining, and fast paced. Bingo was played in between some hilarious performances and well worth the &20 price tag. Wine is included with bingo but I'm glad they could accommodate me and comped my latte instead Onto the food. They make all their baked goods in house so don't miss out on those sticky buns! Best thing hands down. My wild mushroom omelette was very well prepared in the French style- it's always so impressive to me that the egg is cooked evenly all the way around and came with a nice side salad. We all got different things so we could sample a variety. Some of the dishes that came out were pretty small. Not a ton of food to split for the price. Others offered up a bit more to them. Just came here for brunch for my friend's bday! It was super good and service was great. Love the aesthetic! My friends ordered ordered some adult drinks, and the Kyoto coffee which I think they liked. I got the pink moon which was a refreshingly light grapefruit drink with tajin on the rim, I liked it! We ordered and shared among the 4 of us: the hamburger, the short rib hash and the French toast. I loved them all but I think the French toast was my fav and then the burger, but my friends loved the short rib hash... they thought the burger was too heavy and needed tomato or lettuce. The view is beautiful but we got hot about 3/4 through our meal since it was a warm morning so we were happy to wrap up after about an hour. The food came out in great timing, very nicely played. We came after a trip to SeaWorld...without much planning, it was easy to get a table inside. Then we saw the views of the rooftop patio and asked to be moves. They were really nice about it and moved us after we'd already settled in. Overall, this place has great vibes for a date night or girls dinner. I wouldn't say it's the best place for kids since there's no kids menu but I did ask them to modify the pasta dish to be a mac n cheese with no truffle. Sadly, my kid did not enjoy fancy Mac n cheese. He actually did like the steak and veggies. We asked if they had a birthday thing for my son and thought it would be free like is sometimes convention??...but was not. Should have known. Be warned! Food wise I would give it a 3, service is a 4 (slightly slow), so overall...maybe a 3.5 but you can't do that here so I rounded. Short rib- 5/10 it was good but so salty. The polenta wasn't enough to balance the saltiness. Would have preferred rice. Steak- 9/10 good portion and flavor. Would have liked to see brocolini with carrots on that dish too. This is always how I check out the new places in San Diego, try out their happy hour and plan to return to check out the full menu. We had drinks and some appetizers that were offered. I thoroughly enjoyed despite doing this review almost 4 months after my visit. However, I do recommend it for the view and ambience (you have to take the elevator to the restaurant. It's not a Mister A's view of the city but a view of Mission Hills and surrounding areas. DEALERS CHOICE ($12) - Japanese gin and yuzu. Yuzu infused cocktail. Seemed to be the popular pick at a glance around with everyone sipping from the same looking glass. This was a citrusy and sour kind of drink since I was looking for something fruity this was recommended. Choose widely, will this pair well with your meal? For me, it didn't. MUSSELS ESCABECHE ($28) - confit garlic and tomato, basil, toasted sour dough. I was expecting seeing the shells but this was served with no shells and a lot of mussel meat! The mussels were cooked good, nice and tender and easy to swallow after minimal chews, but some of my mussels did have grit/sand. The broth was a little tangy and acidic from the tomato sauce but the basil flavor toned it down but another sour flavor from the sour dough. Love the bread and how it rafted even better when dipped into the sauce! Will note, didn't pair well with the Dealers Choice drink.. too many sour and citrus going on. Atmosphere:5/5-like the lights, most of the decor, entrance, staff, service, etc. Menu selection/range: 5/5-fits several diet types. Bathroom:3/5- not a fan of black toilets and dim bathrooms. Could barely see myself in the mirror. Only three stalls. Food:3/5- I got the pave (5/5), cod(3/5), Black Forest trefoil (4/5), Paloma mocktail (2/5). Pave could have used more crab but was so good I could have eaten a larger portion for an entree. I would try a different entrees, the cod was good but the rest of the plate was lacking-spinach was. Super salty, baby turnips were odd, slime-like... flavors didn't seem to go together for me.. plate felt dull and wet-swamp-like, compared to other entrees I saw others devour. When we saw a spot open up for drag bingo brunch, we knew we had to snag it. We were so glad we did. We were greeted by the friendly staff and sat at the bar inside as that's where bingo was being held. We were greeted with their Tincho drink which was quite tasty. I did the mimosa flight. The flavors were very fresh and they are light on the juices! Be warned (in a good way), one flight definitely got me there. I got the bibimbap breakfast. This place is an absolute vibe! Came here with friends to celebrate my birthday, and so glad I did. The view from the terrace is spectacular! The ambiance and decor of the place beautiful and feels upscale. Even the restroom impresses. The food was so good. I ordered the duck and it was very good! I tried my friend's lamb, which was also cooked perfectly. Our waiter, I believe his name is Danny or Daniel, was so great! He answered questions, was attentive and gave a great suggestion on wine. He knows the food and drink menu well. My reservation was for 8pm and we stayed until 11pm. We were the second to last party finally leave, but didn't feel overly pressured by the staff leave. Food: We started with happy hour and tried the delish fried artichokes served with a dip and the fries, which were rather boring and bland & a couple of whiskey cocktails that were good but weak & could've used more whiskey to make them sing. Fried artichokes: (3.5/5) These were just OK. The batter was good but something was off with the artichoke, can't put my finger on it. It wasn't our favorite. Rosemary bread rolls: (5/5) YUMMM. They were so soft and flavorful. Delicious with the butter. We ended up ordering 2 of them. It only comes with 2 rolls. Chicken skewer: (3.5/5) These had potential but they were really dry. This is an interesting review. I gave it a 4 stars not because anything in particular was fantastic. I think it's a four star because everything was just good. Nothing wowed me but nothing about the experience be it the food, drinks, view, wait staff, elevator ride, energy in the place etc. was terrible. Because they did nothing wrong. I feel like it's four stars for me. We came during restaurant week. When you enter, you pass by a coffee shop and a patio. Look for the elevator to your right to go up to the restaurant. You're immediately greeted with the front of house staff. We didn't have reservations so we had to sit at the bar. The bartenders were semi busy. It was a full house but they weren't necessarily running around fulfilling orders left and right. Bar seating was super comfy. It was a U shape. I ordered off the regular menu and they ordered from the pre set menu. We ordered the following: Lamb lollipop which had a zaatar crust, vadouvan curry yogurt, frisee, and mustard vinaigrette. It cost 36 dollars. It was beautifully presented. Flavor was somewhat there. You can taste it was well salted but I was searching for more than just salt and I couldn't quite name what seasoning was used if any. The crust was nice. But dont expect a crunch. About 5 lollipops came in it. Coconut Milk Poached Fresh Catch which was served in tom yum broth, with tomatos, mushrooms, chili oil, and coriander. It's gluten free. It was light and easy on the stomach. If you're a hungry person, it won't fill you up but you'll be delighted with the broth and the mushrooms. Visually its a pretty dish. Lots of color. Teriyaki Glazed Pork Belly as an appetizer with pickled zucchini & red onion, and topped with sesame seeds for 26 bucks. You have a sweet and savory dish here. If it's one way or the other, you have the pickled zucchini to help cut the taste for you. Its a tasting rather than a small plate in my opinion. But probably my fav dish of the night. POG Panna Cotta (passionfruit, orange, guava) was served in a cute little dish. The combo of tart with sweet with creamy was a refreshing end to the meal. Mussels Escabeche was a super pleasant dish. The aromas was intoxicating. The basil, tomato, and confit garlic were great. For 28 dollars it was a little steep but for good dishes, you have to pay a good price. Its served with toasted focaccia bread. Escabeche is a broth / marinade. No parking lot so we parked on the street. It was late Sunday evening so we found one right in front of the place. They have a 3 course dinner menu that is a great deal I had the Brussels sprouts and octopus both delicious and for entree the braised short rib in polenta recommended be our server and it did not disappoint. We tried all the desserts with the exemption of the sorbet and our group rated the chocolate dessert as our number one with a tie for the cheese cake or mouse (can't remember the name with hazelnuts) for second place. Wow, ended up so blown away by this place. Bit weird getting in, as you're kinda in a holding pattern at the bottom of the elevator until the hostess let's you up, but once you're up the views are really incredible. Came here on a saturday night at 7 pm and was surprised most of the bar was open to sit at. The bar is a big U shape with a ton of seats. One side is definitely better the other and faces the city with a gorgeous view. The menu is full of interesting items, definitely wanted to try everything kind of place, both food and cocktails. For the cocktails they're doing they're own sort of riff on classics, with the classic name next to their name. Started off with their old fashioned variation and it was so good, really well balanced between the bitter/sweet and whiskey. Also got their carajillo take, and one of the best carajillos I've had. I do wish the espresso was a little fresher, had just a tinge of that stale coffee taste, but the other flavors here were great. Never thrown nonino into this cocktail, but you've got that plus some chocolatey notes, the orange/vanilla from the licor 43, and a repo rounding it all out to add that touch of booziness to remind you this is a cocktail after all and not just a latte. Other cocktails also look super interesting, but man they're pricey, most are around 20 bucks, so be prepared for that. For food I ended up going with the duck duo, because duck breast and leg, best of both worlds! The duck leg confit was so crispy, and shredded off the bone beautifully. Duck breast was okay, well prepared, but man next to the leg it's hard to compare. Dish was plated super nice with a raspberry sauce. My friend and I also shared a brussels sprouts plate, wow the brown butter on those really stands out. And they got these so crisp too, it honestly was almost like eating popcorn. Definitely recommend those. Overall really great experience. Love the bar and the interior design. Food and drinks are creative and delicious. Bartenders were super helpful and friendly, shout out to Angel! Definitely a top spot to check out! read more

Vibes and views are 5/5 but the food was very, very disappointing. We went their for our anniversary on a Tues. When we got their they had a little table marker to let our servers know it was our anniversary which was nice. We reserved on the terrace and the view was sooo nice. Highly recommend. For food we got the heirloom tomato salad, the chaat potatoes, the tom yum soup and the POG panna Cotta for dessert. The tomatoes were not good. All different levels of ripeness. The flavor was so mild for being heirloom. And the sauce they had with it tasted fishy to me. If you've had chaat before from Indian restaurants, don't order it here. This was a super sad interpretation. The potatoes were nice and crispy and thinly sliced which was different. But all the flavors paled in comparison to what you would expect for chaat. They had a chutney which had good flavor. But it felt like the dish had just chutney and yogurt. The yogurt was like a thick, plain Greek yogurt that was on the bottom of the dish. The tom yum soup was also a much more toned down version of the original Thai version. They also had it with Opa instead of sea bass which we didn't like since the fish ended up being much firmer and didn't soak up the sauce as much. They also put a sweet coconut cream on top of the fish that felt weird to me. Dessert was fine but nothing to write home about. At the end of our meal they gave us small, complimentary champagne which was a nice touch. Overall we would not go back for food. Maybe for happy hour or drinks. read more

Super trendy, beautiful view, fun menu and great service at the bar! We went for happy hour and had a great experience. We did notice that happy hour is at the bar top only, which isn't ideal for groups. The prices on the main menu seemed very high, but the drinks and bites on the happy hour menu were a great deal! read more

Place has been on our list for some time now and boy am I glad we finally made it here! Amazing views from this rooftop spot! Cool modern bar area and lots of nice patio seating as well. Standouts were probably all of the delicious cocktails, the steak tartare, and the sea bass. Dessert was quite delicious as well. Definitely a bit pricier and a tougher area for parking but overall a great date night spot with great service. Solid cocktail offerings and seemingly a solid happy hour selection as well which we'll definitely be back to check out! read more

3.5 overall but a restaurant week review Anyway the bartender made amazing drinks. The fresh focaccia is great, especially if you sandwich it with the steak tartare, butter, and aioli 10/10 Crudo was yum as well. Why 3.5? I ordered my filet mignon medium rare. It had a real nice char on top so I thought maybe it's even more done. But while cutting it with my butter knife, it was definitely raw. Returned it and tried the truffle pasta. (Which was actually a "truffle Mac & cheese") As the server placed the dish in front of me, I smelled the strong scent of chlorine. I thought maybe it's the dish itself? No, it was the black truffle. Manager came out and said maybe I'm just not a fan of their truffle and it comes in fresh every day. I am definitely a fan of truffle and every dish I have tried has never gave that scent. So now, as much as I hate complaining at restaurants- I get raw meat. Then I get bad truffle. What am I supposed to do? Whatever at least their dessert was good Cute rooftop bar, nice atmosphere. Slow service. Maybe don't come in on a Friday idk but they did just open I guess So yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa it was good enough. Shrimp pasta though was light & flavorful. Dinner is spectacular. The portions are on the lighter side but you can order a few items and share. The ambiance makes you feel like you're somewhere special. It's a perfect place for date night. You'd be able to get an amazing view of the sunset. Getting reservations around that time can be difficult so keep that in mind. read more

the ambience is so nice at this restaurant, both the inside and outside. we had a reservation for 7:30 and weren't seated until 7:50ish. downstairs there were seats to wait and live music. they recently changed the menu, out of the three things i tried, i loved the pork belly. the green garlic and fennel pasta was pretty bland and the lamb sirloin flavor was great but it came out very cold. we tried to let our server know but he didnt notice us. he finally checked in with us when it was time for the check which is when we told him about it. nothing was really said or done about that. overall the ambience was better than the food we tried, id recommend trying the pork belly though! read more

What an amazing place! From the views to the vibes, communion cannot be beat! Sitting at the bar, you get the most incredible views of all of San Diego, but you also get views of your bartenders making specialty cocktails. Had some really delicious bites and some not so great ones. The short rib risotto dish was amazing. Everything was cooked to perfection. The mussels were delicious. Sauce was tasty and loved soaking everything up with the bread. The papas bravas was a huge miss for me. It was meh at best. The flavors on the eggplant dish were spot on, but my eggplant wasn't that tender, so it ate weird. We had amazing service and the view is beautiful. I'll definitely be back! read more
