if there was an option for ZERO I would have chosen it. The app for ordering food is poor. my credit card was charged yet it wasn't entered. Server said she'd check on the order for our table but never responded or came back to table. Manager could care less, never made eye contact, said it never happened before despite bartender saying it has. We frequent this place regularly but not again. I've been coming here for the last 3 years and have loved it! I have only ever eaten one item, that one item being the smash burger, usually great. However, this last time I ordered it and it was not up to par. The burger patties were very obviously frozen patties and not a smash burger as it usually is. When I asked multiple staff about this change each one decided the best course of action was to tell me nothing about the "smash" burger has changed when it very obviously had. Appearance and taste were completely off and a place and food item that I'd previously loved, are no longer. Darn shame because I'd appreciated this spot, but the ignorance or lies I faced the day I was served a lesser burger have left me to leaving my first EVER review on any single place I've been before in my life. This is my favorite brewery in Va Beach. From the beachy laid-back atmosphere to the interesting beer concoctions and constant new releases, they've got everything I want. I will say the food leaves something to be desired, but the taste and variety of beers make up for where the pizza lacks. This place gets packed very easily, so large groups may want to plan ahead of time! read more

We absolutely loved our pizza once we figured out the self pay situation. There's not really service to speak of since you order and pay for drinks at the counter. They were very adamant about paying food and drink separate. The front counter and food server became annoyed that we asked for a side of dressing. I had to go back to the counter and order another drink to get it and even then they complained. These breweries are nice with open venues, but the view is almost always the parking lot or traffic. I've heard great things about the beer here, however I had mimosas that day and they were lovely. My husband had an iced tea, that was overpriced. He could have had a beer for the same price as an iced tea, so that was annoying as well. Not all patrons are technology inclined and I watched several ppl struggle with the QR self pay system. My husband had to create a new online account in order to pay for our meal. Which he found frustrating, so I ended up doing it on my phone. It took us a good amount of time just to order our food. However, we'll return now that we know the system and it's close to home. Great pizza though! read more

I'm very surprised this place doesn't have a higher star rating, as it's been one of the better breweries I've been to (and we travel all over for breweries specifically). The environment itself gives off a laid back, beachy vibe. Has a large outdoor seating area and plenty of indoor space as well - has an entire room in the back by the restrooms with additional seating. Kid and dog friendly for the most part. There was a food truck, the flying pig, which had pretty good BBQ food. The beer itself, in my opinion, is REALLY good. You can taste all of the flavors that is in description of the beer. I am a sour/gose drinker and the Tiki Vibez is one of the best I've ever had. My husband prefers Hazy IPAs and got the Intergalactic and again, one of the best he's ever had. Only complaint would be that they were out of a lot of the beers, however that's common at these smaller breweries. I would agree with the reviews saying that the bartenders aren't very friendly, which is uncommon in this industry as usually they are very personable individuals. The valet guys were much more friendly (and speedy service) and work off of tips. read more

What a fun place to visit in the evening! When we visited, there were several food trucks out front and plenty of benches available to sit and sip and eat. We got the Paper Umbrellas berliner, which tasted mostly of pineapple, and the Strawberry Bourbon Whip, which was very strong and flavorful. It's a bit sad that they don't have a traditional bar to sit at in the building, but given the great ambience outside, it's not a huge loss. They have a good selection of beers, food available with the trucks, and even a selection of games scattered around the tables inside for the guests - what more could you want? read more

Reggae Brunch was fun! Beer lines were long. Better to eat before you come, kitchen can't keep up with the demand. There was an hour and a half wait to get your pizza. (which was really good when it came) They use to have food trucks there, that would've been nice. Other than that it was a good time. Good music. read more

My favorite out of 3 we visited during a week at Virginia Beach. Quite a few choices of craft beer in an open concept type of brewery. Many people had their children and/or dogs with them. We ordered a wood fire mushroom pizza which was crispy and delicious. Young man playing music was very talented. Loved his voice! We had a very enjoyable afternoon there. I have lived over 20 years in chicks beach and have always welcomed new business and supported Commonwealth Brewing as a addition to the neighborhood when others did not. I enjoyed the local food trucks from time to time. My recent experience was more than awful , myself and my out of town client stopped in to order a to go pizza which I heard was good. When we tried to order from the bartender she acted as if we were bothering her. She was VERY Rude the entire time. Very disappointed in the staff ,food and service. read more

This was the first brewery I've been to. I'm not much of a beer drinker, we were there celebrating a friend's birthday. The vibe is nice and chill, with indoor seating, and a large outdoor with cornhole boards. Parking, however was a little tight. I also noticed a food truck outside the brewery. I would've definitely checked that out if our party didn't have any food. Once our party got situated we decided to order a few drinks from the bar. I had no idea what to get. If I'm drinking beer it's usually a cider. I wish I knew the name of our bartender because she was super helpful going over the different types and letting us sample anything we asked about. I went with the Cheval au Soleil, which had a light citrus taste to it. I ended up having two of them. Our party was held in their private party room and the staff took care of us, making sure empty glasses were taken away when needed. Good pizza. Wood fired stove, they advertised pet friendly. Pet friendly is an understatement, the couple at the next table had a dog ON THE TABLE! I like dogs, I don't mind a well trained dog on the floor of a restaurant, but honestly ON THE TABLE? That can't be within the health code. A dog should not be on the table. No one from the restaurant asked that a dog's ass be removed from direct contact from the surface that people eat from. Made me question that sanitary standards of the kitchen. read more

Stopped at Commonwealth Brewing. Loved the open-air taproom with lots of tables and seating both inside and outside. The staff was friendly and offered suggestions. I ended up having the Orange Russian which was really crisp. I sat outside and enjoyed the decor. The furniture was interesting and there was a mural on the wall to the north. Just the sights and atmosphere was with the stop. They had high gravity stouts, I got one to go, definitely would like to return when I am in town again. Spacious local brewery that we've heard so many good things about. So, we finally got to try it and with family! We came for post wedding festivities with immediate and new extended family members. The bar tender suggested the Pastiche which was a winner for me! I could've gotten another after I finished it but I wanted to try other things. I was told to get the Marshmallow Eyes. I didn't like it much. It was too bitter for me. I should've known better since I don't usually get IPAs. We all had a good time talking and trying to play some of the games they had there. The projection TV was playing a football game that night. There's great seating outside, in the main area and then a back room. They had about 26 beers on tap and a handful were tapped out. We all had at least 2 each that we tried. It's definitely a good place to hangout. Can't wait to come back again and try something new. read more

We love this brewery and were very excited to try their themed brunch. We quickly realized that it's not a brunch but a breakfast only until 11 or 11:30am so they came change the kitchen back for their regular menu. We go there at 1pm so we missed the brunch. The pizza and music was great but wished they wouldn't advertise a brunch until 2pm. That was disappointing. read more

Man. This was a disappointment. There were a ton of mosquitos - so I got bit up pretty good. But that's not their fault. However, the fact the bartender was kind of rude, is. She seemed like we were bothering her....by being customers. I get having a bad day, but your attitude can ruin someone's experience. Unfortunatly the beer was as bad as her attitude. $20 for a flight of 6. Pretty pricy. Granted, they are larger pours...but I prefer the smaller samples. On top of that, all the beers feel flat. Sophrosyne - was my favorite. It is a tart saison. Nothing special, but it was cool. Taonga - imperial hefe - my second favorite. Cloudy color makes it look like juice. It was ok. Wapatoolie - tropical IPA. Wasn't digging it at all. Marvolo - Irish oatmeal stout. Nutty nose, good mouth feel. But super strong "burnt" flavor that I'm not a fan of. Toooo roasty. Trishana - gose. It was nice and sour, less salty than other gose I've tasted. My bud liked it, he finished it off while I struggled through the rest of the flight. I visited about 5 breweries while in town and this was my least favorite - I thought with the good reviews, it would be the best one, but unfortunatly on this evening it was the worst of the bunch. read more

This is a great place to hang out after a day at the beach. The picnic tables outside are old and need repair or replacement. The orders are made online using the scan code on the table. The orders are delivered to the table. The pizzas are good but over cooked for some of my party. One was nearly burnt. I do not recommend the mushroom forest floor pizza. I like mushroom pizza but this one had too much cheese balls on it. One order took forever. read more

I love how open to the outside this place is. On a nice day it's great to come here and relax with the family and drink a cold craft beer. They also have food trucks come if you are hungry. I'm not a huge beer guy, but this local microbrewery has tasty beer and inviting atmosphere and great food trucks outside. The brewery is in a converted fire station and offers some wide spaces for groups and individuals. The doors open to provide an inside-outside feel. The beer is good! I normally can't drink beer because of an allergic reaction, but I can drink the beer here. Try Commonwealth the place is great. read more

If you're into the "hipster" scene... this might be the place for you. Service was slow and bartender's were not so friendly, happy go lucky people. More mono toned - and seemed unwilling to answer too many questions about craft selections, they seemed annoyed the more i asked for clarification on options. I am not a huge beer drinker and was only accompanying a friend and simply asked the bartender for some suggestions and had a few questions. I didn't feel welcomed at all and more like i was being scoffed at for not knowing the ins and outs of craft beer. I literally will never come here again. Not to mention the trash talk of other local establishments among employee's while i was retrieving my second beer... right in front of the customer. It was very classless and left a bad taste in my mouth. I would suggest trying out Young Veterans Brewery or O'Connors. Much more friendly, relaxed environments. read more

Fantastic brewery. They always have something new to try. I love their stouts and most IPAs. Even if something isn't quite my cup of tea I appreciate the experimentation and variety. This brewery has the best tasting beer selections that I've ever had. I crave their beers all the time and have to resist stopping by on a week day. I try to recommend this place every chance I get. The brewery is nestled in Shore Drive and is somewhat of a hidden gem. Just like all of the breweries in the area they make their own specialty beers. The space inside is not as as spacious as others but it's still a nice place to go. The outside had tables with lights and is pretty nice. They have occasional food trucks to serve the hungry drinks but not tonight. It's okay as I know it's off season. I got the Taonga which is the Imperial Hopfenweizen which is pretty damn good. My fiancé got the saison which is also good no complaints. Only complaints here is the limited parking and valet service. We have to pay for parking just go to a brewery? That's kind of ridiculous. But we luckily got an open spot since we came a little bit late. There wasn't as much people so we got lucky with a parking spot right on the side. Score! But another great brewery to check out in our area. read more

Set up is nice with ample community seating. Great for having a pint and being able to hold a conversation or play a game. Selection is varied and quality overall. A little hazy IPA heavy but that is what is in vogue. Service was excellent and attentive. Bartenders were very welcoming. No real gripes. Plenty of taps and can pours as well which I think is a nice touch. Take away cans and bottles. Growler fills as well. Merchandise selection is varied and well displayed. Great IPAs! We loved the Superbaculum West Coast IPA and the Waptoolie Tropical IPA. The atmosphere is laid back, casual and fun. The beer is good. Not amazing but good. Dogs are allowed with their owners and a fun crowd gathers. Some families. Older parents with their middle age kids and even underage drinkers swilling Dr. Pepper. The food trucks outside provide "good" food. There are Games to play and music... what else can a girl ask for? read more
