If you love the brewery feel and are looking for a laid-back and fun sense of community, commonwealth is the place to go. They always have fun events, and you can count on their great drinks and food to make for a good time.

    Double smash burger

Commonwealth was always my favorite smash burger but did not deliver today! Patties were not the same... looks to be a frozen burger patty or a different recipe. Really disappointed and hope they change back to the original smash burger!

5taff is super FANTASTIC. First thing they said was do you have any questions. Our first time and we did have questions. They have a great menu of food. You scan the QR code and order from your table. You order all your drinks from the bar. You can either pay or open a tab. From coffee, hot cocoa to beer, mixed drinks or mimosas. They have it all. Since it was our first time we read the holiday menu and got a holiday latte we drank our Latte as we spent time reading 3 areas of drinks and spent time reading about all the food. - The Maple Cabin latte 5-star -Chicken sandwich with home fries 5-star - Synthwave (dopplebock Lager) my favorite-5 star - wolpertinger Bavarian style dunkelweiss ale. My second favorite. Ambience was casual, laid-back but cozy, warm feeling and friendly . Staff definitely a five star staff super helpful. And it feels like you're talking to a friend about beer. Can't wait Waite to go back and I highly recommend

This is my second visit to this brewery and I know for a fact that I see many more visits in the future. You can absolutely tell that this place is a local's favorite. Both times I've been, there has been plenty of families enjoying themselves both inside and out. They have plenty of seats and they have games available. The staff members aren't overboard friendly but they are very efficient. They answer any questions you may have and are knowledgeable about everything they offer. Both times we have ordered their cheese pizza (pretty good), one time we got the white pizza and the other time we got the verde. Their pizzas are enjoyable and they are a good size. We've gotten fries and the pretzel which comes with beer cheese and mustard. I don't drink but my family have enjoyed several of their beers and I enjoyed their Dubai latte earlier in the month. This brewery is definitely worth a try. You are bound to get good eats, brews and fun times.

Love this place. Have gone here a few times with my kids and they have an amazing time, whether we're sitting inside or outside. It's a fun place to hang out and drink. Their drinks and food are amazing! I haven't tried something I didn't like. Service is quick, even on crowded days.

Stopped here on my way to my VA Beach Air B&B. I got the Tinta Blanca and a 4-pack of Drap A Pin to-go totalling ~$30. The Tinta Blanca was refreshing, crisp, and the perfect fruity flavor. Haven't tried the Drop A Pin yet, but they have over 10 beers that sound great that Is try if I was here longer. They also seem to have events here and I was here for a local craft market, picked up some cute earrings. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating too.

Since opening its big garage doors over 8 years ago in the old Chesapeake fire house off Pleasure House Drive Commonwealth had evolved. They now offer more brews in their tap room and have expanded to Richmond, Va. Their second generation brewmaster has been phenomenal! I have not been a regular at Commonwealth for sometime now with pandemic woes and business travel, but have returned this Spring. All aspects of the business are firing red hot after their expansion. The pandemic years seemed to never have slowed them down. Commonwealth now offers food from their own kitchen which was a struggle with the city to get it done. So food truck days are gone which is a bit sad, but it's progress as the neighborhood constantly complained of their presence where it parked. It'ssimple menu they can do well featuring signature wood fired pizza, but also burgers, wings and a few healthy options like salads. Everything is done by using a QR code and ordering off an app They even now offer a menu of their own coffee brand Common Coffee. Most recent was a great burger, fries and Wealth brew. A few years ago they expanded their footprint and added a huge park like area to the side with picnic tables. Its actually larger than what they need on a daily, but can be used for special events outdoors. They still offer a special events room indoors. For me what's changed the most is the atmosphere, yeah, yeah we now call this vibe in cool places. It's a beer destination with local vendors that offer items outside under tents, live music and a beefed up merchandise selection. From the beginning I felt Jermey, the savvy owner was tapping into areas where he could grow. It started with quick local distribution and has evolved into much more of a branding of the business. Locals have supported his tweaking of a vision that now seems to be hitting its stride. A strong 5 stars and will return this Summer for bites, music and friendships with epic brews in hand. Keep up the great work Commonwealth.

Met up with some friends for some drinks, plenty of seating. Staff was nice, mostly self serve, so you only really interact with the staff when you're ordering a drink. The food was stellar, I'd come back just for that alone! Combined that with some brewskis and some friends and you have a great day!

4.5 stars. Our pizzas were tasty. I like the vibe. I didn't even mind that the only way to order food is via a QR code. The people were nice and service was good. Half a star removed because you can only order food the way it is in the app. My husband ate the olives even tho he doesn't like olives. He would've liked more meat on his pizza. . My husband enjoyed his beers. My iced chai was okay.

Commonwealth Brewing opens pretty early and is family friendly. During the day, people like to hang out here for brunch and lunch and get some beer. During the night, people play games and hang out and drink. When it's nice weather, it is very nice to sit outside the brewery. It is also a very good place to hold a decently large event. They have a separate room in the back or you can have it outside. The food is okay here. I think the food was decently salty during brunch. I didn't take a picture here, but the dinner menu is way better for drunk food. I recommend the wings and the pretzel. They have a good amount of parking spots in the gravel lot, so parking is not hard to find.

This was not our first trip to Commonwealth but we liked it before clearly so when we were passing through on the way to Cape Charles it was definitely on our list for dinner and a drink! Amazing pizza and the beers were so tasty we grabbed a variety to take with us!

After checking out some historical sites, we needed a spot for lunch. Luckily this place was nearby so we decided to check it out. We each ordered a drink and then ordered a pizza to share. We were able to taste some of the brews before ordering one which is always nice and appreciated. We asked about food when ordering our drinks and found out you order that separately from the table. When our pizza was ready, they brought it to us with napkins. They have several places to sit indoors and outdoors. We are happy we stopped here for lunch and drinks.

Commonwealth is my favorite brewhouse in town. They do a phenomenal job with all of their IPAs and DIPAs, and I would definitely ask for a couple tasters or ask for their recommendation in order to see what your best bet is. Also, they do flights! It's tough to keep your selections limited but I would definitely try to get a nice variety of itesm. Also as a sidenote - there is a new branch in Fairfax. If you're in NOVA, highly recommend it!

Barrel 17 did not disappoint; when i got there i realized quickly i was the last to know because it was busy. It was non stop; attentive, taking orders, making drinks, checking back with others, she was truly impressive. The places was jumping; it was busy, casual and didn't slow down from the time we arrived until we left. Parking is challenging, there's a small lot beside the restaurant and a small lot behind it so if you can car pool you'll benefit yourselves. Now on to the star of the show - the food! The only knock I had was portion size. In a big guy with an even bigger appetite and when i left there i could've eaten my whole meal over again lol. But that's also because it was delicious. The last time I set foot inside their Pleasure House Rd location was at least 10 years ago. I celebrated my birthday there as my friends were kind enough to take me out. It was a Sunday morning and I sought out a place that offered brunch. I noticed 1608 was open and decided to head over, especially since I haven't visited them in ages. When I walked in, I noticed their dining room is dimly lit - much darker than I remember. I was greeted immediately by a kind hostess and she proceeded to sit me at a nearby table and provided me with menus (one food, one alcohol). I took my time looking over the food menu, and in the meantime I ordered a pint of Center of the Universe's Bald Irishman and a bottle of Boylan's Black Cherry soda (they do not have a soda fountain). What made this visit memorable was that 1608's bartender, Hunter, was an old acquaintance from back in my restaurant days. He spotted me and came over to say hi. After my meal, I continued to catch up with him at the bar. His presence made a pleasant experience even more fantastic. I thought I was hungry, so I ordered 2 dishes - Smoked Ham Fried Rice and the Breakfast Burrito. According to Hunter, every item is made fresh in house. After biting into each, you could tell that's true. Both the fried rice and burrito were delicious and boasted lots of flavor. Although I prefer my fried rice a bit simpler (if you give me just garlic fried rice, I am SET), 1608's fried rice (veggies, garlic, soy, basmati rice, 2 runny eggs, smoked ham) had a lot going on, which made for a flavorful dish. I liked the rice and the burrito (Korean style fried chicken breast, scrambled eggs, cilantro lime, cheddar, pico de gallo) a lot. I didn't finish either because it was a lot of food (I really thought I was hungry, haha). But these leftovers turned into a fantastic dinner later on. 1608 looked clean and organized, although I thought it was a little too dark inside, at least for brunch service. That's not a dealbreaker since everything from the food to the service was as excellent as I remember. I hope to return soon with my mom. Regardless, I'll find my way back eventually. Thank you, 1608 Crafthouse! And great seeing you again, Hunter! JV

The menu is small but very intentionally focused. They offer smash burgers done right, the iconic Norfolk snap dog, ice-cold beers, wine, and classic cocktails, and the prices are honestly great for the quality. It's small, so definitely expect a wait during busy times, but it's absolutely worth it. They also have outdoor seating, which will be clutch once the warm weather really kicks in. I ordered a Modelo, the F&P style fries, and the Mickey Burger. The fries are next-level, very much giving In-N-Out animal style vibes topped with grilled onions, Goodboy sauce, and cheese. I could eat those alone and be happy. The Mickey Burger comes with a double patty, cheese, Goodboy sauce, pickles, lettuce, onions, and a sesame bun. I subbed the raw onions for grilled onions (highly recommend), and it was perfection. Juicy, crispy-edged, flavorful ... everything a smash burger should be. I truly can't express how good this place is. The service was great, the food was unreal, and I'm already planning my next visit. Next time, I'm definitely trying their espresso martini. What I dont respect is the manager picking and choosing when he wants to follow the rules of the establishment for his own gain.
