Visited SSW Commonplace location on Saturday afternoon. It was clean and not busy. I ordered a chai tea latte with skim milk. I typically use soy milk but they only offer oat milk as an alternative. I stopped in over the weekend at one of Commonplace Coffee's locations. They have 7 across Pittsburgh and Indiana, PA. When stepping into the coffee shop, there was a small crowd waiting to be seated at The Speckled Egg, which shares an entrance with Commonplace, but it quickly parted as I excused myself through. Their drink menu is posted above the barista station and ordering was a breeze. There was a small mix-up with my drink being made "hot" despite ordering as "iced", but the staff remade my London fog with minimal additional wait. I noticed their paper cups were different than the typical to-go cup based on the texture and design. It seems more eco-friendly, which I appreciate. This is my first visit for coffee here. I tried the specialty drink they were offering Spiced Pear Latte. It was delicious. The staff were polite and the space is nice. Lots of seating and music played in the background but it isn't too loud so you can still enjoy your conversation if you are with another person. read more

I stopped by here a couple of Sunday mornings ago with my wife and twins. Every Sunday morning we try to hit up a local coffee shop and on this day we decided to go to Commonplace Coffee. We have been to Commonplace Coffee shops before but not to this specific location which is in the Southside Works. What makes this shop different than most of the other ones that we have been to is that they share an entrance, restrooms and space with the Speckled Egg. So the coffee shop is on one side of a wall while the restaurant is on the other. The Commonplace side of the space was nice and clean with a place to order, a cloche filled with baked goods and then an area filled with some merchandise. For my coffee on this morning I ultimately decided on a 16 oz Rosemary Fig Latte while my wife went with a 12 oz iced Pumpkin Pie Latte and then I also got a rainbow sprinkle cookie for my kids to split. Our wait wasn't long and my kids enjoyed the cookie during it. Soon enough we were out the door and playing in puddles. I thought that my coffee here was pretty good as the fig was present and added some sweetness to the rich coffee. The rosemary was a bit lost for me, but I still enjoyed the coffee. My wife also really enjoyed her pumpkin pie latte and even had me take a taste of it because she enjoyed it that much. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. Commonplace Coffee opened a location in the Southside Works. They are located next to/connecting to the Speckled Egg. They offer a full specialty coffee menu as well as handcrafted breakfast sandwiches from the Speckled Egg, which is a phenomenal breakfast spot. They have delicious, crafted coffees. Tried their iced caramel latte. All their syrups are made in-house! Great space to meet up with some friends or get some work done! Very friendly and inviting staff. Commonplace has a few locations in the city, but this one is located next to the South Shore Riverfront Park and Trail- a perfect stop to pop by to grab a quick bite or some caffeine to keep you moving. There is metered street parking and access to a few parking garages nearby. read more

Very delicious coffee. I had a latte and the espresso flavor was nice and strong. I got it to go so didn't stay around. But it seemed like there were a few people working. The sound level was pretty high because of speckled egg being right next to it so don't know if it would be good for like studying. Nice and simple place. I live so close and will definitely be back. read more

We visited this place on our way to Maryland. It has a cute coffee shop vibe with great coffee and great service. If you stay indoors, you get served coffee in real cups- which I think makes the coffee taste better. I ordered the large caramel latte along with a regular latte. Long line, but it went pretty quick. Not much seating area and not really optimal layout? so that docks a point. They did have outdoor spots though! Kept it simple with a vanilla latte, was very happy. It was very delicious. Well balanced. They have a few flavors to add to coffees, like lavender, sweet oak, mocha, and vanilla, to list a few. There are also alternative milks available. Most drinks are available both hot and iced, which is a plus! There are also baked goods (like scones, muffins, and cakes), breakfast sandwiches, burritos, and even custard. Service: the baristas are super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu! Space: I enjoy the open layout of the area they've created, and it's perfect for relaxing with a coffee or even getting work done. There are outlets on the walls and near the booth space, as well as guest wifi. Speckled Egg is right next door and will hopefully be opening soon! This is a nice spot to study in and do work at! The egg place next door was closed when I went on a weekday afternoon, so I can't say anything about the noise. The staff was lovely and very helpful. I love Commonplace Coffee! I've been to both the Southside as well as the Sq. Hill. Southside is a bit faster with getting my drink, but that makes sense as Sq. Hill seems busier when I'm there. This is such a good coffee shop! There are so many tables with plugs to study and always big tables open in the center if you have a group! The coffee is great and the baristas are so nice! They recommend drinks and can make anything. They always ask for here or to go, so if you do sit in house you get the nice mug which makes the coffee experience so much better in my opinion! I've tried their pesto breakfast sandwich and the breakfast burrito and they both are not anything special but do the trick if you need a quick bite to go with your coffee. They taste premade and like the baristas just warm them up, but if you want a fresh made meal you can chose to sit down at the speckled egg connected to the coffee shop!
