This was my first visit to the Verona location after having been to their Ellsworth Ave shop, and it lived up to what I expect from Mechanic. Parking was easy with 2 hour street parking right nearby, which made this a low-stress stop. I was greeted by festive holiday decor when I walked in, which made the space feel warm and inviting. There are a few small tables outside for nicer weather, and inside there are three high tables meant for standing only, so it is more of a grab and go spot than a place to linger. I ordered my usual iced London Fog with almond milk. It took a few minutes to brew as expected. While waiting, I looked around and noticed a limited selection of pastries like scones, plus a small fridge with to-go sandwiches. Along one wall they also had branded merch and coffee brewing equipment for sale. Overall, this is a solid neighborhood coffee shop with quality drinks and a streamlined setup.
I won a friendly bet with a buddy at work on the Leechburg vs Clairton Game. The loser of the bet had to buy the winner a cup of coffee during the week. I won the bet and was told I would be getting a coffee from Mechanic Coffee in Verona. I got a vanilla hot. It was good and tasted fresh. I enjoyed the coffee, but the sweet taste of winning the bet was even better!
Stopped in this cute little Shop for a quick drink and the cookies just spoke to me.. z staff was super nice
Former Penn Hills resident from the early 90's to early aughts. If you would've told me a place like this would open up in Penn Hills/Verona, I would've told you you were losing your mind. Delicious coffee, solid espresso pulls, and a really vibrant, never ending stream of fun locals and familiar faces coming in throughout the day. I will say that their pastries are a bit meh, which seems to be due to living so far away from a lot of popular bakery routes. But other than that, this is a standout shop and I can't wait to come back.
Not the first time and definitely not the last one! They have a small yet cool storefront, I like it! Got a iced latte with almond milk this time and it was delicious. I think it has a rather sour than bitter type of flavor (don't quote me on this, I'm not an expert by any means ) They also have a fridge of canned nitro cold brew, and they are no joke! It's a little pricy ($5 each I believe), but worth it. Check them out if you love nitro ones as I do ;)
The coffee is really great and an excellent, cool art neighborhood vibe in Verona. Little small for working on a computer for hours unless it's nice outside but excellent space for coffee.
Cutest coffee shop! Everyone in here was so nice and welcoming. We had vanilla lattes that were fabulous. We saw they had several baked goods and burritos . I loved the cute local things you could pick up as well. Definitely will be back.
Cute & modern coffee shop right on the main strip in Verona. Street parking and your typical prices. We had the cold brew and nitro cold brew, about $5.50 each, they were good but a little on the strong side. They do have cans of the nitro you can buy to go as well!
This place is great! Great equipment, great coffee, and great baristas. One unique thing about this shop is that they sell home brewing equipment which is neat because you are buying from experts who know how to work the equipment. Not a lot of space inside, but a cool shop and nice sidewalk seating outdoors.
I was excited to try this place after working in the area for years and hearing about it. I was thoroughly disappointed. First thing that caught me off guard was the menu seemed basic yet confusing. I was unsure how to order since there was no specific place saying iced or hot options (flavors on a smaller less obvious 8x10 menu) I went with a basic iced macchiato with sugar free caramel which gravely confused the barista. Her response seemed pretentious and made me feel uncomfortable like I did something wrong. She was like "are you looking for like a Starbucks type caramel drink I'm just trying to figure out what you want since macchiato drinks have steamed milk and two shots of espresso?" I was confused why it was difficult to make that iced which is an easy swap for frothed or cold milk...anyways she had to call another lady over who proceeded to tell me "how we do things here are more basic." I ended up with a latte instead which was their suggestion (like I didn't know what I wanted) and I was already embarrassed by this point so I agreed to their suggestions even though I wanted a layered iced macchiato. I literally ordered the 3rd thing on the menu iced it wasn't difficult and I get macchiatos this way everywhere I go; even smaller coffee shops. I felt like I was in an episode of Portlandia and I didn't care for what their "moto" was and their responses made me feel like I was a phony in a business full of coffee purists, what a pretentious type of vibe. Also there was no seating! Three seats all occupied by regulars pounding away on their Mac books, 3 standing tables with no seats, with one women standing up on her Mac book. I'm sorry if all your other clientele are doing sit down activities it might be an indication that people want to sit. I stood there, several months pregnant embarrassed and over heated with no where to put my jacket I stood for about 3 minutes trying to give it a chance but I told my husband I needed to go. I just wanted to have a chat with my husband and relax for 5 minutes but it was so sterile. Also the coffee was so incredibly bitter and sour :( I won't be back but hey they have decent branding and merchandising however; no stand out visuals or vibrancy. Their atmosphere is as boring as their coffees and they are purposefully eliminating a whole selection of people by not offering basic accommodations.

Granted we showed up 20 minutes before closing, we were not offered chai tea that had been offered with coffee passport and noted in previous yelp reviews. We also were not told the WiFi password because it was 10 minutes until closing. This was probably why the tea took more than 5 minutes to make and served in a very small cup. The latte was ok.
The vibes in here were dead, it's definitely a grab and go situation. There's no music and tables are only for standing. Very mellow aura here. $7 for an iced vanilla latte that tastes mid. I'm not sure what's wrong with it but I've had better read more
I love Mechanic! It's a great coffee shop in Verona. There are a few standing tables & some seats outside (if it's nice). They sell a few pastries and retail items from other local businesses. The coffee tastes incredible & I love their lattes. read more

A cute hidden gem in Verona! Located off the main road by the train tracks, it took me an awkwardly long time to know it was there. It is a smaller place and very simple and clean decor. I ordered my usual favorite, a soy chai latte. This time, I asked for almond milk (which was organic) as sometimes I've noticed it's creamier. Lightly sweet, it had a very pleasant spiced taste without being overbearing. The barista decorated the top with a star made of spice (cinnamon maybe?) which I thought was really cute! I loved it and will come back. read more

I was extremely excited at the thought of having a quant coffee shop nearby, unfortunately this might just be the first and last visit from me. Location: off of Allegheny River Blvd. On Verona across the bandstand. Easy to find, free street parking. Venue: cute seats ~10 or so inside with out door seating as well. Retro yet eclectic vibe. Coffee/Price: let me start off by saying, I love coffee, lattes, espressos etc. I'm willing to drive for good quality coffee and am even tickled when it's at a reasonable cost. So, I ordered a small (8 oz) latte with a shot of Carmel Favor (hey, why not- I was in the mood ). This child size drink cost me $4.01?! I thought well that's absurd but was willing to suck it up, after all I was already there and I thought well in that case the flavor will be out of this world. Boy was I wrong. I left with my drink (hindsight I should have tasted it prior to leaving), about 1/2 mile down the road I started sipping on my drink - it wasn't worth even $1. It was bitter and I couldn't even taste the flavor I paid extra for. I was left filling ripped off. I hope this was an isolated incident. read more

This is my first time at this coffee shop and I was thoroughly impressed by the customer service. I am not a coffee person but I accompanied my friend (who is a coffee person) to this shop. Neither he nor I had been here before but the shop itself was cute and smelled quite nice. Because I know nothing about coffee, I ordered a mocha with sugar free vanilla syrup in it. I cannot eat sugar but I was not aware that mochas were made with a sweet syrup. I should have disclosed this to the nice lady when I ordered. When I tasted the coffee, it was incredibly delicious! But I usually get skeptical when things taste that good because they usually have sugar in them. I asked the barista and she tried to calculate the grams of sugar for me but there was some uncertainty. In the end, they offered me a different drink, refunded my original coffee and provided excellent customer service in the process. They didn't have to do any of that but they went above and beyond! I might have to start drinking coffee more! read more
I stopped by here earlier today with my wife for our morning coffee. We had never been to Mechanic Coffee before but we had purchased the Pittsburgh Coffee Passport and it was on there and so we decided to head over. It's located on railroad street in Verona right near, you guessed it, the railroad with two tables outside. It's cute inside with some bar seating as well as a few tables. There's definitely a feminine touch to the place as there are some flowers on the tables and the colors give it that feel. Lastly there were also some great looking pastries and cakes on the counter that are for sale. For coffee on this morning I decided to go with a latte while my wife went with a cappuccino. My first sip of the latte was a little bitter but it soon smoothed out. After that first sip I really enjoyed it as it was a nicely made latte. My wife enjoyed her cappuccino as well and we both enjoyed sitting outside with the relative peacefulness of railroad street. The bottom line for me is that I would come back here again in the future. My coffee was good and I enjoyed hanging out here. read more

Best in the burg hands down! Owner is extremely knowledgeable about the beans, the process, the machinery, and even sells freshly roasted local beans in his store! Amazing to say the least. read more

A cool spot in Verona. The location is nice, modern and clean though today it was dead silent in there, it was a little awkward just standing there. I think a little light background music would help with the ambience. I've been here twice and both times the service was pretty slow but I think that's an homage to the time they take with their products. That being said, I probably wouldn't go here if I was in any sort of rush. Their coffee is great though and reasonably priced. This place is definitely worth a visit. read more

Who knew there was great coffee to be found in Verona! I found this gem on my coffee passport (http://coffeepassportpgh.com) They serve excellent espresso drinks from Commonplace with pastries provided by Enrico Biscotti Company. The cafe is a quiet, well-lit spot in Verona just off Allegheny blvd. There with plenty of on-street parking and beats trekking into town if you live on the east side. read more

First time here for the first use of my Coffee Passport. The staff was very helpful regarding the Coffee Passport and was very kind and welcoming. It is a cozy little shop with street parking out in front. My chai tea latte was delicious, I will definitely be back! read more
