A hip coffee house that is trying so hard to be a hip coffee house that it would be unbearable, if not for the fact that the coffee is actually very good. The drinks are creative and delicious. If you have a strong tolerance for caffeine, the Nervous Breakdown is super intense and super tasty. Parking can be an issue here, and the reclaimed house that is the shop can get a little bit crowded as well. It also takes a while to get your drinks prepared. There's a venue in the back patio, which is a nice enough, good for more intimate shows. read more

I agree with most people on here, If you're driving through Waco, & like coffee--then this is a place for you to check out. I do it all the time. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star, is their cashier system has been down alot lately and the lines get super backed up & long, (which delays my trip). I'm writing this one star review due to the horrible customer service. First time here and we were not greeted (ok so I let it pass, whatever).. I ask for a suggestion & the try hard hipster barista lady looked annoyed and dryly says "anything on the left side of the menu" umm, ok? We go to pay & she gives our change, not a single "Thank You" or anything. She just hands us the receipt. The people making the coffee looked bored and upset to be there. Look, if you work in the food industry and you hate it so much then GET another job!!!! The food industry requires customer service first, always!! Because of their rudeness, I will not be going back. I wish I got their names but I guess it doesn't matter since they were all pretty rude. Just a bunch of try hard hipster college students that live in Waco. Maybe in LA can you get away with the rudeness but not in a small town like that. Do better. Oh, and the coffee isn't even that great. More of a reason to not go back! read more

Great people watching, if your into that sort of thing. The coffee is pretty good. Disappointed in the powdered chai but it's not horrible. The best are the cowboy coffees with the secret sauce. Very sweet but super good. With all the people here studying, I would like some more indoor space. The fans outside are nice but in this Texas heat, they are not cutting it. Would have loved to have tried this place since I've heard so much about it. I had just come from Sing and arrived 10 minutes before they closed and by the time someone came to the window I was told they had turned off the espresso machine and could not serve me any beverages. It's been a year or so since I've been here. When I lived in Waco, I loved going here because it was convenient, was better than being in my dorm, and had I been more social then, was a place where I could have interacted with other humanoid characters. The regular coffee is weaker than Starbucks', but I prefer it that way. The flavored coffees were very artificial, but I still had fun trying all the variations. Cowboy coffees were super sweet, but a decent try at creating a unique drink. They don't sell a high quality product and the crowd there wasn't always one I'd want to associate with, but CG was always strangely comforting. Cheers to that. read more

Not sure what you could knock this place for. Coffee is some of the best I have had. The location is eclectic and breeds conversation. Three space in here the indoor, outdoor and the portico (as I will term it). All spaces are furnished with random tables, chairs and lamps and really begets a ramshackle atmosphere. The outdoor is like a redneck ampitheatre and couldnt be any cooler. I want one. The portico is covered and cooled by fans. All in all I would live in this place if it were close to us. read more

I saw their business on fixer upper and have always been curious about their coffee. I consider myself a coffee snob. I only do local coffee where I live and I was not disappointed by this place. It's a corky eclectic vibe with the young hipster crowd which I envisioned it to be considering their are neighbors of Baylor university. Coffee was perfectly roasted. Staff were sweet and friendly. If I were in college I would like this type of place to go hang out or study. There were older people like myself there also enjoying a cup of joe and getting work done. I'm glad we stopped by. Common Grounds, or CG, is a great college-focused coffeeshop. They have an awesome, atmosphere with lots of seating inside and out with a stage in the back where you can catch life music often. I am not too keen on the prices (more expensive than Starbucks) but the drinks are decent but very sweet. Their signature drink is the cowboy coffee which is a very sweet blend of coffee, chocolate and milk. You should definitely try it at least once. read more

I always stop here when I'm passing through Waco. They use Cuvee Coffee from Austin. Pretty good cup of coffee, good pastries. The place itself is pretty cool. Has a huge patio out back with a stage for live music, also has a covered patio on one side of the building. Always has lots of customers, good vibe. read more

Fantastic place! I particular like their unique Cowboy Coffee concoctions. The No Bull is delcious hot or cold. Kombucha on tap was a nice surprise. Plenty of room to hangout both inside and outside. read more

Eclectic coffee shop next to Baylor campus. It's an ok quasi-hipster coffee shop with better Arnold Palmers and soda concoctions than actual coffee. I have used them to cater organization events in the past and they were professional and helpful. This popular coffee shop hosts live bands (mostly from the ambiguously Christian indie scene) and occasionally host movie nights. If you're looking for a crowded place to yell at friends and sit on mismatched furniture, CG is for you. Otherwise, Dichotomy may be more your scene. read more

Excellent coffee shop, real cool vintage furniture everywhere with lots of seating. Most seating is outside however and there are only a few heat lamps. So may want to bundle up in the winter. My brain does not fathom why this place does not have 5 stars! They truly knocked my socks off with their outstanding coffee and delightful concert venue. I will definitely have to swing by every time I drive through Waco! I got the caramel crunch iced coffee and my sister got the no bull. The no bull was creamier and not as sweet as the caramel one, but both were outstandingly delicious! read more

Very bitter and stale coffee. I drank about half of the coffee before throwing it away. On a positive note the atmosphere was relaxing. If your reading this do yourself a favor go to a different coffee shop. Or go to a local gas station-that's how bad it was. read more

Ordered caramel crunch latte...hot version. I like my coffee hott and it seemed it was sitting on counter and got cold bc they dont yell your name more than once. I have had better latte elsewhere and cheaper. Giving them 3 instead of 5 because I feel its over priced for the size and type of drink I ordered and my drink was cold.... literally had to warm in their microwave. Great atmosphere, lovely coffee, staff has excellent taste in music. Sadly sometimes the joys of Common Grounds are thwarted by hoards of sorority girls. I bring 33 db earplugs just in case most of the time. If it gets really bad, I put em in. There's a fair amount of ditsy chicks/dudes talking at a psychotic level of volume. read more

Stopped in for a quick cup on my way to Dallas. Good coffee, friendly staff, typical eclectic college coffee scene. Tons of hip luminary laptop novelist writing much ado about nothing. Very similar to spider house in Austin only with a Waco version of the Austin hipster scene, so a little deuchier if that's possible. read more

Classic study spot for Baylor students. I have studied for many tests here and its so easy to get comfortable. I always order caramel coffee crunch and later, an iced soi boi. I've never had the pastries, but they look delicious. It can get crowded during midterm week and finals or when they have concerts. Great coffee, great atmosphere. read more

I have very fond memories of this coffee shop from when I was at Baylor. I would encourage you to visit next time you are in Waco!
