Cute little coffee shop with great coffee, teas, and lattes. I visited their location in Branford a few times and when I saw on Yelp that there was a location in Hamden, I decided to check it out. I ordered a small latte and my fiance ordered a medium latte - both with almond milk. We also tried one of the cinnamon chocolate biscotti from their extensive biscotti case at the front counter. Order total = $15.95. That is pretty expensive for 2 lattes and a biscotti. Either we were overcharged or Common Grounds just has high prices. read more

I happened to be in Hamden recently and wanted coffee. I used to frequent the D&D in this plaza. When I saw Common Grounds I figured why not. So good!! I have returned a few times already. The biscotti are huge and delicious, the crumb cakes are moist and flavorful. And there's a good selection of coffee flavors, teas and smoothies to choose from. So glad I stopped in one day, and I have told friends about this place. read more

Employees are knowledgeable and provide good service. A step up from Starbucks. The atmosphere is great for studying and having conversations. Complete opposite of the heavy foot traffic and noise of a Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts. Cool setting and music. What a terrible experience. I usually go to branford and was in the area shopping so decided to check this out... BAD IDEA! This was Saturday 12/23 at 5pm and the employee had NO CLUE what she was doing! I asked for a peppermint mocha latte- simple - she asked me how to make it!!! Then my friend wanted a iced mocha latte- again she was putting chocolate milk? She did not understand anything I was saying and the language barrier was impossible to over come! The owners/ manager need to hire employees that know how to make coffee or this place will go under!!! read more

I can't get behind a coffee shop that exclusively serves in disposable containers, especially espresso. Some of the baked items are ok, but in general everything seems overly sweet. Overall the place just feels too manufactured. The Branford location is slightly better, but not much. read more

Was there today for coffee and pastry with two friends, one in a wheelchair. Some of the outdoor seating is accessible in a chair. They have a tempting selection of pastries (the tiramisu was great!), coffees and other drinks. The staff couldn't have been more pleasant. I'll return soon! read more

Love this coffee shop! The biscottis are so addicting! I definitely have a sweet teeth for their almond joy and salted caramel biscottis!! I was very impressed with their quality iced coffee! They gave you so much for a low price! I got a small iced coffee equivalent to a medium size at dunkin for only 2.15! I was stunned because I am a coffee phantic and need to pay 4-5$ for a medium cold brew because the regular coffee at dunkin isn't strong enough for me. Great first experience! The shop has a clean, cute atmosphere. I picked up a small NFL (non fat latte) and was impressed by how smooth the coffee was. Haven't had a cup this good in a long time! Not to mention, the coffee was super affordable and my small seemed huge! The pastry selection is also worth checking out. I couldn't resist a peanut butter mousse brownie :) if you're curious about service, I actually left my keys on their counter without knowing it, and the barista literally chased me down into the next store to make sure I had my keys! Such a cute little coffee shop! Today was my first time coming here, they have a large menu with many flavors of coffee, teas and hot chocolates. They have MASSIVE biscotti and a case filled with a variety of sweets- cakes, cannolis, scones and muffins. I gave it 4 stars because I couldn't find a menu online (I checked the website and Facebook), I had to take a picture in store and then call my coworkers to see what everyone wanted. So, I included that picture. Since it was my first time there I wasn't really sure what to order and it would have been nice if I was welcomed a little warmer. They have a selection of whole bean coffees in the back that you can grind and buy per pound. I am a local so I'm sure that I will be back soon to try more of their flavors- today I got the smores and it was very tasty. It tastes like a medium roast so it was just right for me. I really wish that they had a rewards program for frequent customers. read more

What a great feel to this little coffee shop! Sweet smiles every day from the lady behind the counter, the chill music playing in the background, comfortable seating inside and out, and the delicious smell of fresh brewed coffee (obviously). It all comes together to leave me smiling every time I stop by. You can buy their whole beans separately, and their daily custom flavors are always a fun change (although they all seem to taste pretty similar if you get them enough - still great though). Service is fast and their espresso drinks have been my new favorites! Is it the best coffee I've ever had, well...no, BUT it is excellent, reliable coffee and my daily "go-to" within Hamden! Went here for the first time yesterday and absolutely loved it! There was a wide array of coffee flavors and specialty coffee, and the pastries all looked delicious (I can vouch for the apple coffee cake, which was amazing). I also loved the ambiance--quintessential coffee house decor, acoustic music playing in the background, and couches for chatting and tables for reading or getting a little bit of work done. I like the coffee, it is good - but just the plain coffee. They burn the non-dairy milks, so do not order an almond or soymilk latte. The atmosphere is awful. They play music that's off the pop charts at louder than necessary volumes. Definitely not a "coffee shop" vibe. They could benefit from not playing the top 10 hits club remix at a high volume on a Sunday morning, maybe make it more of a warm, welcoming environment. read more
