Comme à Savonnières came highly recommended by a Parisian foodie friend for our 1-year anniversary lunch, and it didn't disappoint. Classic French bistro food, excellently executed.
Mon mec made reservations the morning before we headed out to the city and we were warmly greeted when we stepped through the doors around 13h, seated at a cozy little table, and the ardoise (chalkboard sign) with the daily menu choices was hung up beside us for our gastronomic perusal.
The 16€ daily menu was a choice of either entrée (appetizer) + plat (main) or plat + dessert from the selected specials. We decided to do two plat + dessert menus and select a couple of appetizers from the regular menu. Here's what we ordered:
Apéritif: Malbec for him, a nice slightly sweet Vouvray for me
Entrée: Foie gras de maison cuit au torchon, Escargots de Bourgogne
Plat: Magret de canard, Blanquette de veau
Dessert: combined our separate desserts for the Café Gourmand et ses desserts (an expresso and chef's selection of small desserts)
My favorites were the foie gras (mmmmmm!) and my man's blanquette de veau (a homey, hearty, white veal ragout). My duck was cooked to perfection, but I would have enjoyed a itty bit of a sauce to dab and eat my mashed potatoes with.
The escargots came out de-shelled already on a tartine (piece of toast), and it wasn't exactly what we were expecting (we were looking for the little round dish, tons of garlic, etc.) -- it was, in my opinion, the weakest part of a very strong meal. Just a bit soggy, lacked a bit of salt -- but the fantastic foie gras more than made up for whatever the escargots failed to bring to the table.
Escargots not withstanding, the whole meal was a rustic gourmet feast. Plus, the total came out to just under 70€ all inclusive, which, for a meal of this caliber, is a très bon rapport qualité-prix (aka a good deal!).
