It was very dry and not seasoned well. My Philly cheese steak was a step above steak-umms with almost no flavor and was served on cheap bake-it-at-home bread. Had to purchase curly fries on the side and they tasted like Ore-Ida's. This makes sense since the waitress told me their mac and cheese was just Stouffer's when I asked if they were any good. This meal cost $26 and change PLUS an extra charge for paying with a card (don't get me started) PLUS tip. All said and done we spent $30. I would only recommend this place if you don't have time to heat up the frozen food you bought from the grocery store or you just really hate having money.

As my luck would have it, I quickly discovered that this restaurant does not have air conditioning. I'm not sure if it was just offline or if it is permanent; however, be warned!! The restaurant had children and elderly people seated, so I couldn't wimp out and go somewhere else. The Chop SHop is a downtown Butler must-try, and it is three concepts rolled into one. The Chop Shop is a vintage-style eatery serving sandwiches, milkshakes, burgers, vegetarian fare and grilled meats. I ordered their specialty milkshake, which is a loaded milkshake that comes with everything thrown into one Milkshake. Although it was a perfect drink for a heatwave, my milkshake quickly melted due to the heat in the restaurant. For the main course, I ordered the Mixed Grill, which had grilled elk tenderloin, smoked quail, caramelized bacon brussels sprouts, dauphinoise potatoes and a blackberry brandy demi-glaze. The food was awesome, and those potatoes were crazy-good. The Elk was cooked to medium as I ordered, and the quail was tender and juicy. Overall, a good but hot dining experience. The Chop Shop has great food, great service, and one day may serve alcohol in the restaurant, but for now, their food and drinks can be enjoyed without it.

I think their prices are reasonable as compared to other breakfast locations. The servers are friendly and helpful and honestly the clientele is usually very friendly. The ambience is cutesy with some clutter. In no way would I call it professionally decorated but it is what it claims to be and that is a local eatery representing the charm of a family owned business.

At times, the music was too loud; we could barely hear each other. Hubs & I arrived a bit early, so we wandered inside the beautifully-restored main house (so pretty!) to the bar & ordered a couple of draft craft beers from their extensive list. I had a fantastic Belgian style ale. The bartender was so friendly and helpful, allowing us a few tastings. She encouraged us to look around - go upstairs - when she noticed us taking pics. She even went outside and saved us 2 rocking chairs on the back porch! The house is really lovely. Upstairs is spacious. The history of the home and the Harmonites is really special-- be sure to read up! When our party arrived, we were able to secure a large outside table (we had reservations for inside as a fallback - though it wasn't busy inside at all; you can't reserve outside tables). We ordered apps for the 5 of us -- trying: * Potato pancakes w/ apple chutney & sour cream - good, not great. The bees certainly loved that apple chutney! * Frickadillen meatballs -- excellent! The succulent meatballs in a yummy mustard cream sauce were quite the hit. * Fried pickles -- odd but somehow quite good! The spicy, crunchy breading went perfectly with the super tart dill pickles, and we all really liked the jalapeño ranch sauce (& I'm no fan of ranch!) which gave quite a kick. For entrees, we really wanted to try some house specialties --- German fare: * Roasted 1/2 rosemary chicken over a rich, creamy spaetzle dotted with fresh roasted wild mushrooms. The rosemary flavor - oddly - didn't really come through, but the cream sauce was excellent, as were the juicy, perfectly cooked (generous in #!) mushrooms. The meal also came with a nice side salad. * Jagerschnitzel - my sis-in-law really liked this, the pork pounded thing, breaded & deep fried with a bacon-onion-mushroom brown sauce which paired nicely w/ house made spaetzle. She really liked the cooked red cabbage which had apple flecked all throughout. * Ruben sandwich -- hubs really enjoyed the slow-cooked corned beef and fresh, flavorful toasted rye bread. The sandwich was accompanied by generous portion of french fries. Dessert -- I was far too full, but hubs wanted some dessert. Sadly, they were out of the pumpkin bread pudding! He got the German chocolate cake which was clearly a disappointment. He thought it was dry, lacking in coconut throughout ("It was just in the middle."), and just "ok." He didn't even finish the slice. Our friends seemed to enjoy their ice cream, though! Not sure the flavor. All told, we had a really nice meal, even though no one spotted any ghostly apparitions by the outside fireplace! Service was fine. We'll definitely be back! The live music, while loud, was quite a treat. Nice that it ended at 5pm so we could enjoy our meals and chat.

We've really never had a bad meal here. We've had a few meals that were better than others. Post Covid, the service has varied from visit to visit. They still have a nice little early happy hour from 4 PM to 6 PM with drink specials and some appetizers in the bar. They do have nightly specials that they tend to post online midday. In the first I would say 15 years of coming, we used to get a free birthday dessert if you were, I think a member of their club or whatever, but I know there were other times that they used to ask if you were celebrating anything special when you were seated and for an anniversary, they would give us a free glass of champagne or dessert to share or something like that. I made a reservation for our anniversary online in advance , and I even mentioned in the comment box that we were celebrating our 33rd anniversary, but this time no mention of it from staff, so we didn't bother to mention it either. It was the Friday before Labor Day weekend and so they do tend to get busy by 5 o'clock, and the bar is typically full by 5 o'clock for happy hour. They only had two bartenders on, one of which was taking care of the tables so bar service was a little bit slow. It took us a little bit of time to pay before heading out to the hostess stand to get our table. Once we were seated at our table, it was close to 10 minutes before a young male server came by. I attribute this to back to school time when they've lost a lot of their employees and then of course being a Friday before a holiday weekend a lot of people bail out on work too. It is still our favorite restaurant in the area though so I'm keeping my five star rating. My husband had the chicken marsala which was delicious. I had a 6 ounce fillet with broccoli as my side. I had asked for medium rare and it was actually quite rare, I could've sent it back and had it cooked a little more, but I just ate it rare & it still tasted fine. We'll return in a few months for a birthday meal I'm sure. It's an old school classy vibe place, but still very casual. Varied menu & I like their steaks and I feel although steak is quite expensive right now that there's is actually more reasonably priced than some of the other local restaurants. I believe it was $38 for the 6 ounce fillet that came with one side. I recommend their lemon drop martini at happy hour.
