Ive driven through and been to Butler, plenty of times, but until most recently , upon doing a diner search discovered this place . The old automobile sign decor, milkshake bar, open kitchen concept and friendly staff, left a memorable impression. Big shout out to the couple, the hostess sat me with at the milkshake section of restaurant, and Lindsey one of the owners, for taking care of us. The food was plated to perfection, tasted amazing and the side salad, beyond anyone wildest dream of wow for a diner. Great portions of food, went with the sandwich special for the day. Lindsey, was engaging, great multi tasker and definitely shake master. She had to have done quite a few shakes as I watched and waited for my food. Timing is Everything!!! I just happened to stop in at the Chop Shop in Downtown Butler, PA, during a recent Heatwave. As my luck would have it, I quickly discovered that this restaurant does not have air conditioning. I'm not sure if it was just offline or if it is permanent; however, be warned!! The restaurant had children and elderly people seated, so I couldn't wimp out and go somewhere else. The Chop SHop is a downtown Butler must-try, and it is three concepts rolled into one. The Chop Shop is a vintage-style eatery serving sandwiches, milkshakes, burgers, vegetarian fare and grilled meats. I ordered their specialty milkshake, which is a loaded milkshake that comes with everything thrown into one Milkshake. Although it was a perfect drink for a heatwave, my milkshake quickly melted due to the heat in the restaurant. For the main course, I ordered the Mixed Grill, which had grilled elk tenderloin, smoked quail, caramelized bacon brussels sprouts, dauphinoise potatoes and a blackberry brandy demi-glaze. The food was awesome, and those potatoes were crazy-good. The Elk was cooked to medium as I ordered, and the quail was tender and juicy. Overall, a good but hot dining experience. The Chop Shop has great food, great service, and one day may serve alcohol in the restaurant, but for now, their food and drinks can be enjoyed without it. read more

Came here with out-of-town friends after a ball game. The menu isn't too large which is good - the staff focus on good food and you don't get decision paralysis. Went with the burger after seeing others come out from the kitchen. It was flavorful and the toppings were tasty. The fries were good, too. They don't have alcohol yet (a cold beer would've made this a perfect lunch) but the iced tea was a close second. The staff were very friendly and I liked the decor. My boyfriend decided to try out the Chop Shop because a relative gave us a gift card for Christmas. It was PHENOMENAL! I got a peach tea to start and it was super refreshing and it was garnished with a peach ring - adorable! We got the nachos appetizer and at first glance we were hesitant. But boy oh boy were we wrong! They were AMAZING! The further you got down in the skillet the more flavorful they were! Almost had a street corn vibe! For dinners my boyfriend got a burger with chili and mac n cheese and fresh cut fries and he said it was super flavorful and filling. I got a Goat Salad - the dressing was amazing! The small size was perfect. I also got a cup of the leek and potato soup that was pretty good! Our server was awesome! Super knowledgeable and cheerful. I recently moved to Butler and looking for a good place to eat dinner so stopped in to the Chop Shop. I loved the auto ambiance and wall hangings when I entered. The waitress was rude from the start and explained the menu in a condescending way, as if I was inconveniencing her by asking questions. What made it worse was that she repeatedly called me "babe" and "baby," which was unprofessional and uncomfortable. Customer service should be respectful and neutral, not dismissive or overly familiar. Great place for comfort food. BYOB. So refreshing to have such a good and cheap meal. We were heading back to New Kensington from Oil City, where we had done a hike in Kennerdale, and stopping in Butler along the way seemed appropriate. I wanted to try this place for some time, and I'm so happy we went here. I even planned the return route in our triptych. The odyssey was coming to a close and we needed a great meal for dinner. This place did not disappoint. The waitress was super nice and everything was really relaxed, with a nostalgic atmosphere reminiscent of an oil change. It reminded me of the early days of Quaker Steak and Lube, before it became a chain. Everything they served us was perfect and the agua fresca style drink was a favorite too, since they don't serve alcohol, though I was told you can go grab a beer from the place just two doors down, and bring it over. I ordered a fried chicken Cobb salad the chicken was great, but I had to transfer it to lettuce in my house because of the excessive amount of blue cheese that was all through the salad, which was reflected in the photo. I couldn't taste any of the other ingredients. Also ordered rotating hummus loved the blueberry hummus but the bread was either raw or soggy I couldn't tell which. There were a few carrots and celery included. Compared to other hummus plates I routinely order from other restaurants, I was in shock because Im used to additional veggies and olives with a lower price. Interesting looking place almost didn't go in from the look outside, but I saw a few people waiting to be seated so figured it must be good. It's medium size inside and it was very busy. We waited about 25 minutes to gets seated. We waited about another hour until our food came so make sure you have LOTS of time - no quick in and out. There was only 2 of us and we ordered the A pork alypse - it was delicious came with fries that were just warm and pretty limp but still good. Also ordered the Pork belly sandwich - it was good but more of a cold sandwich with slaw wrapped like a pita. It was soggy from the slaw juice I guess so had to try and cut with knife and fork which didn't go well but picking it up and trying to eat just fell apart. I got sweet potato fries that were cold and way over done looked like left over so they kindly made my fresh ones and they were perfect. Young lady server did a nice job. We will return if in the area again and try some other things. I think worth trying and nice to have options of good, different food, unique atmosphere. I've been wanting check this place out for quite some time and finally got the chance a couple weeks ago. It seems I've always been in the area on a Sunday or Monday when they're closed. It was worth the wait though! I got the Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich with sweet potato fries, and a blackberry mint (semi) Sweet tea. Both were excellent! The sandwich was fresh, and filling. I asked for the sweet tea without the simple syrup and it was perfect - just slightly sweet The service was excellent too! There was only one empty table when we came in and the servers were super busy, yet our waitress didn't treat us that way at all. After reading other reviews, my family and I decided to give Chop Shop a try. WOW. Fantastic and best decision made that day. We visited around noon on a Saturday and were seated right away. Our server stopped by shortly after and got us started with drinks. The menu is sizable and has a little bit of everything, including some vegan options. I decided on the house-made lentil burger and added tomato and cheese (it already comes with lettuce). The veggie patty is huge, which made eating this 'burger' a little difficult. My meal came with handcut fries, which are lightly seasoned and delicious. My partner ordered the Mac-Fire, which is a wrap with buffalo chicken and mac 'n cheese. Wowzers!!!! (Just don't think about the calories.) We upgraded the wrap's side to sweet potato fries and they also did not disappoint: handcut and sprinkled with brown sugar. Amazing. Overall, this place is a (not so) hidden gem on Main Street. I'm already looking forward to my next visit! read more

A few minutes into the menu and we knew we were in a special place. We were impressed by the creative offerings such as seitan, and tater tot poutine. Speaking of tater tot poutine, it was delicious. Crispy tots seasoned with a bit of gravy, and topped with some tender, slow roasted pot roast and cheese. We would have preferred a bit more of the tasty gravy, (if there is an other visit to the chop shop we'll ask for a little bit of gravy on the side as our waitress later suggested). After a short period of indecision, I choose brisket wrap. I could eat this every day! Just the right proportions of tender brisket, tomato, cheese, lettuce, cowboy caviar, and a hint of BBQ sauce. This place is definitely a hidden gem in Butler! It is one of the only places in the area with good vegetarian food (and some vegan options). My husband is obsessed with the vegetarian gyro. I've gotten their standard black bean burger on the pretzel bun but I prefer their build your own black bean burger because if their extensive list of toppings (for no extra charge!). They also have "good ranch" which definitely makes or breaks a restaurant! Our friend got the chicken salad, and it was not only a massive salad itself, but the fried chicken on top of it looked delicious. The only downside is their service does tend to run pretty slow (no refills, longer wait times, etc) but the servers are always very friendly. This is 100% worth the drive into Butler and I can't recommend it enough! read more
