I have to say I was underwhelmed. We went for $5 pizzas (cheese only). Meatballs? I have had better. Very kid friendly and good for the price. However, I go for the food and the cheese pizza is not even the best in Belmont Center and that is saying a lot. I've been to Comella's many times and I've ordered pizzas from them many times since they've opened. I can say with certainty that every time I go in, the service just gets worse. Today, I went to have a pepperoni pizza (which by the way is very good) with my sister. The girl at the cashier today was very nice, but the server was lacking. As we finished eating, I still had some pieces left and asked for a box to take them home. Server hands me a small styrofoam box, and goes on tells me my pizza will fit in there, even though I stressed to her I had 4-5 slices left over and she told me I could fit them in there if I stacked. If I wanted to stack my pizza, I would have just put them in my purse, which is ridiculous, but why couldn't I have a normal pizza box? Thanks for the ruined left over pizza. read more

Five dollar large cheese pizzas are amazing! I might give it five stars but I haven't ventured away from the pizza yet.

The "mess" had twice the amount of sauce it needed (and a big glob of cheese on top). Garlic bread was not good (sort of spongy). We did not like the food at all. The only thing I liked is that they have a side of broccoli which was cooked just right and came out before my kids' pizza so they had some veggies before filling up on pizza. read more

I don't think I'll eat there again if I have the choice. Though I hear their pizza is good, their sandwiches are disappointing. It was about ~$24 for three sandwiches. My prosciutto sandwich was made on nearly-stale bread and with old cheese. In the end I just pulled the prosciutto out of the sandwich and ate that instead. read more

Not impressed. Tried the place twice. $8 salad was pretty ho-hum. Iceberg lettuce, a few cucumbers, white onions and two tomato slices (not wedges). The chicken was bland. Bread is an additional cost as is gorgonzola cheese (maybe these two things could have saved the salad). Only one dressing was offered. Sandwich with chicken and pesto. It tasted like it was microwaved. They put about a cup of oily pesto on the sandwich. Very little flavor in the pesto - had to add salt to make the sandwich edible. From a distance the pizza looked tasty. Would be worth trying the $5 cheese pizza. read more

They don't know how to handle phone orders when it's busy. They will tell you your pizza will be ready in 20 minutes and you might wait 40 minutes. Pizza quality is average but it's cheap at least. read more

Wonderful family friendly place if you are seeking a fast food type Italian fix. Generous portions and the red sauce is balanced and tasty. Everything was spot on. We tried the Nephews Mess and the spaghetti with meatballs and were impressed. Will definitely the pizza and chicken parmesan next. read more

Covers three visits in the Nov. A whole pie is $5.00 and kids love it. We ventured to try the pastas too. Spinach gnocchi are made on premises and were good. The marinara sauce was also fine. On latest visit kids tried the butter pasta with cheese. Menu says "butter" so I assumed this meant real butter. Kids took a few bites and told me it tasted terrible. My son started to complain that he did not feel well - tummy hurt. To be fare, my kids are picky so I did not make a lot of it. However, since my daughter was insistent, l ventured to the counter and asked the staff about what brand of butter it was (my kids love butter). I was told it is NOT butter but MARGARINE. No wonder the kids did not like it. I tasted it and yes, it was definitely not butter. I asked why I was not told it was not butter when the menu said butter and I asked for butter and was just told that they were sorry. I felt deceived. How can I trust their ingredients when something so simple as pasta with butter is miss represented? I have no issue if they want to use margarine. Just call it that NOT butter so I do not order it. when I go in, the thing that always strikes me is how messy the place is. This is partly due to the clientele, about 60% of whom are kids. Huge amounts of leftovers, on the plates, tables, floor. I wonder why no one can finish anything. heavy crusts on the pizza and picky youngsters are partly to blame. But the staff do not clear the tables unless absolutely necessary. we usually end up pushing someone else's partially consumed dinner aside so as to be able to seat ourselves. Gross, what with saliva, globs of sauce, empties, greasy paper napkins and all. Now I need to point out that this place does not have waiter service. It couldn't. It is run by high school aged people who bring out food after you stand in line at an ordering station. Since the staff does not have much to think about, they could clear a table when customer is done eating, or pays, or even leaves. But no. So it is a slovenly place that brings the idea of casual dining to depths not even seen in cafeterias. Speaking of cafeterias, the food is cafeteria food. Standard droopy pizza, do not get anything else. I like cafeterias. But here there is food on the floor, coats on the floor. Ok if you are a teenage sports team after practice, or accompanied toddler. Chaotic, noisy, serves Goose Island IPA on tap, a saving grace for adults visiting. our group, four adults and two toddlers, could not finish anything either, it was not that good. avoid the salads. read more

Went dinner with family once, will never go back again. Food is so so, but service is terrible. Ordered one meat dish, delivered all eggplant dish. Instead of apologizing, they insisted the dish was right. For other dish, they offered choice of sources but did not mention extra charge, instead, they sneaked a few dollars extra in the bill for your surprise. Worst thing: had to pay one dish twice because they put cheese in the dish without asking, simply made us to pay for the full price for the re-make, no explanation, no apology. I've come here about a dozen times with my wife and three small kids and have a mixed review. The Good: - Cheap cheese pizza. - Roomy enough for our family of wanderers to not trip over other patrons (not the case with their E. Arlington location). - Beer/Wne - Caveats to The Good: Personally, I'd rather spend the extra couple bucks at one of the TWO locally owned pizza places on the same block for the same/better quality pie, or splurge at Stone Hearth for a truly exceptional one. - Don't look for anything more "exotic" than Sam Adams on the beer list. The Poor: - I've only had two dishes other than the pizza here, and given their quality, I'm not likely to risk another. First, the chicken parm: I don't eat many breaded/fried foods, so I opted for the grilled chicken version (FWIW, I was very glad to see this offered). However, it bore no resemblance to grilling whatsoever; Steam Table would have been more accurate. I don't know, maybe it had seen a grill earlier in the day before lounging in the sauna 'till I ordered it. Whatever grill tattoos it had once borne, however, had since sweated off. The tomato sauce was passable, but the cheese on top was barely even soft! Not melted, much less beginning to brown. The pasta that accompanied was warm. Second item wasn't on the menu, so make of it what you will: Sausage and peppers. What's that, you say? A "Italian Restaurant" with no sausage and peppers? I know... Me too. Not even a sausage and peppers "Mess." But to their credit, they were willing to give it a shot. So I got sausage from the pizza topping bins, mixed with flavorless steam table (green) peppers. Embarrassing, really. I went up to the counter for a side of tomato sauce to drown it, which the staff cheerfully obliged me with. If price is your main criteria for food, read this as a two-star review; but if flavor/quality/freshness figure into it, subtract one. read more

Best bang for the buck for Pizza and pasta dishes. $5 cheese pizza, $7 mushroom pizza is better than Papa Gino's or other cheap Pizza. The have a $6 lunch special of half sandwich, soup or salad and a drink. Tasty and a value. Their Mess meals are great as well for a mix of lasagna and pasta dishes. Everything is served hot. The staff are polite and bring your meal out to your table. The restaurant has roomy tables, a view of Belmont Center and plays Frank Sinatra music over the sound system. The only way to get better is to pay at least double or triple in price. read more

For third time in a row, Comella's managed to brutally mismanage our order. The first time we called and paid ahead, but when I went to pick up the pizzas at the time they said it would be ready, I had to wait another 30 minutes at the bar. The second time was a couple weeks ago on a Sunday. We ordered a bunch of pizzas days prior, again paying ahead of time for a family party. I don't think they even started to make the pizzas until I walked up to the register to pick up the order. I got one forced apology and a lot of averted eye contact from the staff as I waited an hour at the bar. The manager mainly hid in the back while she let her front line employees bear the customers' wrath. Several angry customers complained about their wait which was often met with, "sorry, we are shorthanded today." I completely understand sometimes people bang into work & leave staff aggravatingly shorthanded, but don't tell me it will be a "few minutes" then proceed avoid eye contact with me while I fume at the bar, painfully forced to watch nascar for the next 60 minutes. Without heeding my advice to take our business elsewhere after the 2nd incident, the family called/paid ahead once again today only to arrive & have them tell us they couldn't find our order & that if we wanted to put the order in again it would be an hour & fifteen minute wait. No thanks. Cheap pizzas, but you get what you pay for...or in the case with Comella's, you sometimes don't even get anything at all. read more
