Comella's is the best comfort food in the world. Their "messes" are anything but -- they are just perfection! I also highly recommend a caesar salad with breaded chicken! So yummy, we order from Comella's maybe once a week - - I love the Sammy's mess. I usually only order out and take home that delicious garlic bread! I'm not sure about everything they serve, because when I go to Comella's, I only order the veal parmagiana with the homemade fusilli. Great food! Terrible parking situation in their W. Newton location. Eggplant parm is incredible and really enjoy being able to sit and eat or order for take out. Wine selection is fair. I am completely dissatisfied with my last experience at Comella's in West Newton. When I called to place an order I had to speak to at least three different people on the phone. After being asked the same questions repeatedly, I remained patient and was told my 60 dollar meal would be delivered in 40/45 minutes which I was okay with. The food was made poorly and completely cold when it arrived at least an hour and a half later. I tried to reach out and leave feedback to the restaurant through their website and I still have yet to hear anything back from anyone after 4 days. I purposely went through the restaurant instead of DoorDash or Uber eats because I wanted to fully support a local business and tip the driver who actually works at the restaurant. I've ordered here before through a delivery app and had a delicious WARM meal.... I understand times are difficult and it was probably a busy time for everybody when I called but I'm just disappointed with the experience I had. If someone would have at least apologized for what happened or tried to accommodate me in someway I wouldn't have resorted to leaving a poor review on Yelp. I will most likely not be ordering from here again and I suggest to look somewhere else if you want a well-made "speciality" pizza that is worth your money. For being a family owned business maybe you should take the time to make sure your staff is properly trained or take the time yourself to acknowledge your customers concerns. read more

A different sort of resturant. You walk in and order at the counter, then sit down and they will bring you your food. (Be sure to have cash on hand as they don't take cards! But there are two atms on either street corner.) The space is small and cozy, the people are very friendly and the service was very quick. The food was fantastic. We ordered the fettucini alfredo and ma's mess. Both were excellent and enough to take home for lunch the next day. We also got one meatball and two slices of garlic bread, drinks, and a dessert and our bill was only $25. We will definatly be back! read more

Dear all I am a frequent customer to the restaurant. Well, maybe was, as I just purchased my dinner from them and realized that the tiramisu is rotten with green spots on top. My friend, eating under the dim lights finished one third of it until realized. I admit that the food are decent and convinient. But I truly take thus mistake very seriously. Since they pride themselves as the homemade fresh food provider, this is intolerable, opposite of what they claimed to be or wish to be. This was from the chestnut hill location. Wasn't really thrilled when I got my grilled chicken parmesan entree with broccoli on the side. Not only was the portion tiny-- I felt like I was straight eating broccoli as an entree, but there was a pool of broccoli water on the plate, which means that they were frozen broccoli boiled for a second and dumped into my plate. Also I never asked for pasta, but there were literally three strings of angel hair hidden underneath the chicken. Probably will never go again. read more

Mainly a take out place. They have a few tables.No public bathroom . Manager seemed friendly to locals but not to me. She treated me in a take it or leave it manner. Went for lunch a few days ago and really liked it. It's small with a simple menu, but the food is very tasty, not over the top caricature of Italian food that you find at some places. F Yes! I love you Comella's. I love getting a parking spot on the street and swinging open the screen door and hearing it slam behind me. Reminds me of being a kid and coming into the cottage. No one yells at me when I slam the door here, they don't even notice because they are too busy making love to their chicken parm. I love your sumptous meatballs that swim in the succulent homemade meat sauce. I love that you serve pellegrino and pour a mighty fine chianti at a reasonable price. I love that when I went there an adorable 14 year old was working behind the counter on a school night! I hope his parents are the Comella's otherwise that is just mean. You order at a counter and take a seat at their very tiny seating area (maybe 12 people can fit in all). Then the nice girl will bring you your delectable food. Sooooo bad! I know this is an area where there are not many good reasonable priced places to eat.. but this is not one of them!!! Had limited time and decided to try it. Oh boy do old yelp reviews come true. They talked me into the "mess" claiming it was an assortment of pasta as opposed to just ziti and we'd love it. Ok for $1 more we tried it. We got ZITI. .. ONLY ZITI. When I went to pay and asked for an adjustment of the bill, the 15 year old girl looked like a dear in headlights and had clearly been prepped to say "it comes with extra cheese even though the pasta is the same". ..BS.. there was No...zero. .zilch. . cheese as it was and I clearly asked before ordering and was told by the same 15 year old "yeah at least 5 different pastas. .everyone loves it". I stated these facts and she was not budging on the price. I wasnt going to argue with a kid and the "manager didn't come in for 2 days according to her schedule. So $2 down. Didn't realize until after we left that I was also overcharged on my meal $2 because she put down both grilled and breaded chicken even though she suggested breaded which I got, not both So much for an innocent 15 year old. The garlic bread was cold and not even cooked. Clearly they prep it early and throw it in the oven for a few minutes...too few. I can't believe people think this food is good! It's prepared, half canned, mediocre food heated to order which makes it less than mediocre. They take plates of prepared pasta microwave it with standard sauce and throw whatever on it. .. a chicken cutlet... or half a cutlet I should say. And collect the money. The owner is making a killing serving bad for food lazy people in a dead area I guess. ... it's a niche. .we won't be back though. I had a great time on my first trip to Comella's. For a low-key, small restaurant that seems to primarily do take-out business, I was happy to see wine and beer on the menu as my boyfriend and I were popping in to eat dinner. Alcohol always wins bonus points in my book ;-). The garlic bread, simple + basic, but extremely hit-the-spot delicious. Also to my surprise, I was able to order two types of raviolis in a "single order" ... I was pretty excited about this. Each on their own sounded too plain, but combined? Perfect! I am still wondering if the goat cheese ravioli actually has goat cheese in it, as I couldn't taste any. This was a disappointment; they must use other cheeses and use the sliiiiightest amount of goat cheese. The eggplant raviolis, however, were superb. My go to sauce is always a light sauce so I was pleased that they serve an "oil/butter/garlic" sauce. The sauce was good but a little heavy on the garlic! Service was extremely friendly and timely. Comella's will most likely become a regular in my take-out rotation. read more

I would give this place maybe 2 stars: they serve up almost everything in a real acidic tomato sauce, twice as expensive as the local pizza place (although this comellas doesn't serve pizza) but generally put together enough and a notch above in quality and presentation. To be clear, 12 something for takeout pasta. Stay away from scampi (1 part canola oil to 1 part shrimp). The reason for the one star is my 5 year old, who actually likes the spaghetti and meatballs (I think they are the high point of this place as well), needed to use the bathroom and they didn't let her so we had to leave mid-lunch. The counter guy was uber polite and asked the guy in the back, who shook his head. Again, this is $27 lunch for two, which consisted of a kids meal, a sandwich, an orangina and two beers. And 4 or 5 tables but nowhere for your kid to pee. So I guess you could call it mediocre and live with it because you're in west newton and its slim pickings, but just don't go there with kids (or adults) who can't hold it when they really really have to go. read more

This place feels like a hole-in-the-wall pizza joint or sub shop but there is quite an extensive Italian menu and good sized portions. Prices were a bit more than I expected for the ambiance of the place but were good considering the portion sizes. If you're eating in you order at the counter and they bring the food to the table (a few tables outside too). We had chicken parm and lasagna, both with mess (a mix of different kinds of pasta/shells/eggplant parm served how you think of getting something with pene). They were good but nothing to write home about. Maybe we should have been a little more adventures with our selections because it's hard to make chicken parm and lasagna exciting! read more

At least at this location, the sauce is watery and tasteless, the pizza undercooked, the garlic bread is warmed in a microwave so it comes out with a texture like a pillow, and the pasta is cooked without salt or a hint of oil.
