To start off, the decorations in their facility remind me of a slaughter house (no offense), but their food quality has made me question whether or not the health department approved of this. When I went to order a cheeseburger they told me they were all out of them, so then I ordered a pizza. But when the pizza came out the cutting looked like Freddy Krueger himself cut it. The one piece looked way bigger than the rest of the uneven sliced pieces. But the one good thing that was there was the service from the employees. This is a lovely spot with outdoor seating and super attentive service. The food is homemade Italian. Everything we ordered was fresh and tasty. Meatballs are house made and traditional. The house tomato sauce is thick and rich and just a little spicy. Pasta is cooked al dente and can be ordered in every combination imaginable. House dressing is a red wine vinaigrette with Italian spices and quite nice. Bread is baked freshly for the table. Portions are huge. I had lots of leftovers to bring home. We adored our server. I got a takeout order. We got mushroom masala and it was just mushrooms. No masala. Cool! Didn't realize this until we got back to the hotel room because it was a to go order. Watching my wife stuff her face with dry mushrooms wasn't the kinkiest thing ever but it's up there. Next up, I asked if they put plastic ware in the bag. Because. You know. To go... no they did not! So a nice young lass ran back to get them. I trusted her expertise with plastic ware so I didn't doubt check its authenticity. She gave us one knife and two spoons. Had another excellent experience at Combine Brothers this weekend! We came in as a party of four a little after 5 on Saturday and were sat immediately. This visit, I opted to try the Pink Pepper - a combo of the diavolo and alfredo sauces. It was delicious, but I would've liked a little more spice! My husband had the chicken parm. He enjoyed it! I'm a huge critic of restaurant red sauce (I grew up with my Italian grandmas and mom making homemade!), so I normally don't get it. I tried my husband's side of pasta, and it was amazing!! Haven't been here in too long ! It was a rainy night so no wait for a table . I asked if we could be seated by a TV to see the rest of the Steelers game. Hostess was helpful and showed us to a booth by the bar with several tvs . I ordered a craft beer and a favorite combo, fettuccine with marinara, sausage , peppers , and onions . If you're a huge fan of Italian pasta, you may want to visit to try their highly customizable variety of pasta. It also comes in massive portions for a good price. Their homemade rolls were pretty good too. I'm not a huge pasta person, so I went for the pizza. However their pizza was probably the worst pizza I have ever had. They make their own pizza dough, but it was not typical pizza dough. It was grilled on both sides... very different. None of the toppings stuck to it. I tried a pepperoni and red pepper pizza, and a sausage and mushroom pizza and both were very bland and lacking flavor. Barely any sauce. The dough was chewy and the fact that the dough is grilled means that there were lots of burned spots along the bottom, resulting in burnt flavor throughout. Didn't taste like pizza despite being sold as pizza. Maybe I just didn't get it. Regarding service, we were greeted, seated, and offered drinks very quickly. We were served with a smile throughout our visit. The atmosphere was cozy, but it is far from "modern" as the yelp description claims. More rustic than anything. We went here 4-5 years ago and had such a good experience we decided to return this year when we were in town. Unfortunately, our experience was much different. There was a gnat in my drink, and no less than 5 more buzzing around our table, my food came out 20 minutes after everyone else's at the table and 2 of the 4 meals we ordered came out with the wrong noodles and/or sauce. I don't think pasta was fully drained. Sauce was water. Little taste. My friend ordered the salad with chicken and after removing several toppings when ordering was charged extra to add red peppers. Salad was nothing special. Not worth the $20 it ended up being. The Italian wedding soup was extremely salty. Will say the bread was very good. I'll skip to the most important part of the review, the food is delicious! They have pizza, pasta, and sandwiches for the most part. There are lots of pasta choices and they are happy to let you create your own with sauce and toppings of your choosing. As a meat free option I went with ziti with marinara with cream sauce and sautéed mushrooms. My sister got ziti with garlic and olive oil topped with sausage. Both came with salad and a roll. The salads were fresh and the dressing was good. The rolls were cold and they were XL. They served them with softened fresh butter from PA which I liked. The sautéed mushrooms were juicy, freshly cooked, and some of the tastiest I've had. Both meals were delicious. It was tons of food and we left with a full serving each to eat at home. The ambience is a little off in my opinion. The interior is dark and the area I sat in looked like a bar. It's a little cold feeling. Hard surfaces and dark colors. Bottom line: everything is pre-cooked and nothing is fresh. Maybe MAYBE the massive crusty rolls. You'll get seated pretty quickly, even on a day like Father's Day. That should've been an indicator of a good meal that would go on to cost my wife and I $70. Holy sh*t was this disappointing. This was a good restaurant when I lived in the area about a decade ago. I have no idea what happened to this place. The menu is 90% pasta, so you'd think they would excel at effing pasta. Ehhhhh nope. We ordered a starter of the spicy longneck clams which is a slight gamble since we're not on the coast but it sounded good. Our orders were taken quickly and honestly I was pretty excited because of how fast they were handling us and I saw other people eating and nobody looking bored. When they came back with our drinks and a bowl of 3 massive baked rolls I was shocked, it took about five minutes if that. Awesome. The rolls are pretty good, super hard crust... but we were gonna need that for what was to come. Our clam app finally arrived and it was 16 clams swimming in a massive soup bowl of some sort of oily juice. To be fair it tasted good. But the longneck clams are tiny and this watery oily soup was confusing, so thank god we had that hard roll to use to sort of put the juice and peppers on with the clams. It wasn't a dealbreaker because the flavor was there but it felt like a waste of ingredients to serve it with about two and a half cups of an oily juice. I ordered the more expensive selection of shrimp on pasta with a creamy tomato sauce. My wife got some sort of bow tie pasta with pesto and chicken. Dear god. Before I go on a terrible rant I'll wrap it up. The pasta was undercooked. The chicken was half a breast. The sauces were so watery and oily they didn't even stick to the undercooked pasta. All hallmarks of a kitchen that precooks their pasta the day before, oils it so it doesn't stick, probably makes the sauce a week or two earlier if not longer then frozen, and then charges people $70 with a smile. The combine brothers menu was basically all Italian with the addition of burgers. Our group tried several pasta, dishes, pizza, and a couple of sandwiches. All seemed satisfied. The portions were generally pretty large. Was hard for me to judge the pricing. Seemed maybe a little high for what we got. The service was good, but the restaurant was uncomfortable for us. They were not really set up to handle any handicapped person so I doubt that I will try it again unless I can confirm seating outside in advance. I will say my family cooks better Italian at home, and typically when we go out, we pay a little extra with the expectation that the food will be good. We were disappointed. When the bread came out, we were impressed with the sheer sizing of each roll - each one was bigger than my head! Myself and another friend opted for the soup instead of a salad, where I tasted the pasta e fagioli, and he sampled the chicken gnocchi. Though the bread impressed us with its size, we were given what felt like a "sampling" of the soups. They were about 4oz little cups. For our main dishes, my husband ordered olive pesto fettuccine, and I ordered the white clam pasta capelli d'angelo (angel hair). His food was definitely olive pesto and the whole table knew it! Mine tasted of garlic and lemon, with an oil base, but I really would have preferred a clam flavor to accompany my dish. We opted out of dessert, as the portions of food could feed 2-3 people. We stopped in after our golf round at Tam O'Shanter tonight. They sat us in the bar area and our sever cme right up to her our drink order. Their food is sooo good and I already knew I wanted the M4 appetizer to take home, lol (I don't want to cook for a couple days) She was great, she got us our drinks, gave my friends time to look over the menu and then came back to take our orders. I also requested the homemade sausage crumbled on top as well as the meatball. Normally I never get meatballs because most places serve frozen versions. My work colleague who lives in the area warned me that this area is a bit of a "restaurant desert", and he was not wrong. This is the second time I'm in town for business, but the first time visiting Combine Brothers which was one of the most reviewed and recommended restaurants in the area according to Yelp. Let's get into it... if you care about food quality and preparation technique, please lower your expectations of this restaurant. What they do well is service and portion size. Rarely do I complain about an entrée to the waitstaff, let alone send one back. However, tonight was the night. My waitress, Kayla, could not have been more understanding and accommodating. I ordered one of their favorite combinations: Vermicelli with olive and garlic, crumbled sausage and chiles. The description was accurate, in hindsight. It's a half a pound of angel hair past swimming in olive oil, topped with "sausage" clumps and an absurd amount of nearly-raw jalepeno rings and sliced banana peppers. Aside from the banana peppers, the dish was void of flavor. I'd argue that it wasn't Italian sausage... though the description never promised that variety. It tasted pretty gross with no evidence of salt, fennel or any seasoning whatsoever.... just an old, porky hint. I can't imagine any human being would want that many pepper rings in a single dish, but maybe I'm just being picky. Kayla insisted on my satisfaction with a different entrée. I ordered the one she recommended: linguine with pink pepper, chicken and mushrooms. They made it with vermicelli, which was no big deal. The pink pepper sauce is a combination of diavolo and Alfredo sauces, but tasted like neither and nothing at all. A sliced, herbed chicken breast and a million mushrooms topped another half pound of pasta. The chicken had a ton of flavor... making me question whether it could have been made in their kitchen. The mushrooms... canned. Yikes! The salad is iceberg with croutons and the house vinaigrette had the mildest of flavors. At least it was fresh! The homemade roll looked great on the plate. Sorry Combine Brothers that this review wasn't nicer. You might want to revamp your recipes. Can someone please tell me where to eat fresh food when staying in Hermitage? read more

First of all, I never leave reviews for restaurants because there is usually never anything to point out. First time trying this place as I have always heard good things about it. I was excited to see that they had a specials menu as it is usually something different and freshly prepared (you would think). So, I decided to order the Italian burger platter which was one of the specials. This came with a side of ziti in red sauce. I get my food and immediately notice that the burger looks a little off. I take a bite and am greeted with a tasteless mouth of mush. As I further examined the burger, I discovered that it is a frozen MICROWAVED burger patty. They didn't even have to courtesy to throw it on a flat top to try and get some color on it. How is that a special? I am so disappointed that they even have the audacity to served microwaved meat. Additionally, for being a restaurant that pretty much only has pasta dishes; the boxed ziti was underwhelming and the red sauce was mediocre at best.
