Grapes in the grape salad were super plump and tasted really fresh, but fair warning, the grape salad is essentially grapes mixed with cool whip and sugar in the raw. My sister and I accidentally stumbled across this restaurant today while looking for a place to eat lunch on a short road trip. We ended up with the pot roast sandwiches, and our absolutely wonderful waitress Karen, suggested we put a little thousand island dressing on them. I am so glad we decided on this because it was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. Tender and tasty roast beef with grilled onions and mushrooms between light toasted sourdough. All the menu items looked good, prices were fair, and the place was clean, not to mention excellent service. The prices of the food here vs. what you get is actually highkey disrespectful to their customers. I ordered a $17 Pittsburgh chicken salad, dubbed a "HOMETOWN FAVORITE" on the menu, and my jaw *DR-OPPED* when my dish was set in front of me. Preface: If you're FROM New Castle, you understand that this salad IS a hometown favorite, & very distinct to our area. It's part of our culture. So when I received half a head of iceberg lettuce, with maybe 2-4 ounces of chicken, TWELVE FRENCH FRIES (I counted-- 14 fries if you add up the broken dry nubs) & a *sprinkle* of shredded cheese, I was quite literally shocked. Now, I rarely if ~never~ complain about food (to the establishment, lol). So, when our (actually quite sweet) waitress came to ask how everything was, I asked her how much it would be to add some more food to my meal. She said $5 for more chicken, & again, I was in shock. Bc now we're talking about a $22 salad in NEW CASTLE, PA. For reference, my husband & I just got back from LA. We got a Tuna Nicoise salad (lightly seared sesame-crusted ahi tuna, cherry tomatoes, roasted fingerling potatoes, capers, french green beans, egg, black olives, baby greens, sherry vinaigrette) FOR $18, IN LOS ANGELES, CA! I declined to purchase more chicken bc if she brought out the same amount that was already on the salad for an additional $5, I would have actually fainted. She did offer us cheesecake which was a sweet gesture-- but offering to replace a piece of chicken with cheesecake is like replacing sneakers with high heels. Like yeah, I love a good pair of heels, but I'm at the gym? She told me, & I quote, "Yeah, it's a small salad, so I always try to pack the bowl with a lot of lettuce so there's more to it." 1st thought, this "small salad" is $17. 2nd thought- *WHY IS MY WAITRESS MAKING MY SALAD?* Shouldn't, IDK, a CHEF or COOK be making my meal? So here's my guess: There are pre-made fries & chicken breasts sitting out on a salad bar type situation (along w/ cheese, onions etc.), & when someone orders a salad, the WAITRESS, IN BETWEEN HER MANY TABLES, is meant to go to the back & throw a bunch of stale, lukewarm, unseasoned ingredients onto a bed of iceberg lettuce. HEY, GUYS, IT SHOWS! If these waitresses are not also getting at least a minimum wage paycheck, you should feel ashamed, & I mean that. (I know a lot of people can somehow sleep at night paying their waitresses a federal base wage of $2.13, but I don't claim to know that about the ownership here.) Here's where I'm side-eyeing a little bit. At the end of our meal, I did ask the waitress how much chicken is supposed to go on the salad, & she said one chicken breast, & I said that I did not believe that was a full chicken breast. This comes from someone who has weighed many chicken breasts in her lifetime. BUT LISTEN, she pointed to a table behind us and said "look, that's the full chicken breast." And when I laid my eyes at that measly, shriveled, white, sad breast with a GLOB OF BBQ SAUCE ON IT (I'm sorry but I literally have to laugh bc that was not even MY MEAL & it left a profound impact on me) I actually believed her that it was, indeed, a full breast. I asked her how many ounces that was, & she said she did not know. So I said, "You should pass this up to whoever needs to hear it, but you guys should start weighing the food, because 'a chicken breast' can vary quite a bit." And she said "Oh, we do weight it, honey." But I'm confused, because I had just asked how much the chicken breast weighs, & she said "I don't know." I asked how much chicken goes on the salad, & she said "one chicken breast." So do you weigh everything or not? Go to HuggerMugger and try their Pittsburgh chicken salad for $9.99. It's one of the best I've ever eaten. Mama Jane's might be the worst... for almost double the price. I genuinely hope this review inspires this business to do better. I recently stopped at Mama Janes. I was in the area and this looked like it had plenty of dining options. I was there on a Monday evening and was promptly seated. Restaurant is in a former Perkins and has an expansive menu. Waitress quickly came over and took my order. She was very friendly. I had the hot turkey dinner. It came with dressing and two sides. I opted for mashed potatoes and corn. Turkey was pretty good overall. I didn't get dessert but the dessert case looked really good. Overall it was a fair experience. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again but I don't think anyone would have a detrimental experience or meal here. read more

My family and I had breakfast the other day for Father's Day and it was really good! . We were seated right away . Server was prompt and friendly and our meals came out without much wait . Portions were generous and we all enjoyed what we ordered to include : pancakes with blueberries and eggs over easy , omelettes, standard eggs, bacon, toast & potatoes and I wasn't in the mood for breakfast food , so i had a grilled chicken pittsburgh salad that came in a yummy bread bowl . Typical diner atmosphere with what looked like in house made yummy desserts in a case. . One tiny critique is they didn't have just a regular fruit salad only a grape salad that had a sour cream and cream cheese dressing. I'm sure it was delicious , but my mom wanted just plain fruit and was disappointed that wasn't an option . Ok so I just left there with my mom grandma and step dad my mom had the spaghetti and meatballs and us 3 had the Roy's Rancher and 8oz stake with 2 sides So the over all service was good out waitress was kind and as attentive as she could be that's about were the good stuff ends So my stepdad ordered his stake well done not going to give my opinion on how he likes his stake anyway my grandma ordered her stake medium well and I ordered my stake medium rare I sent my stake back because it was raw and I'm not looking to eat something that's not cooked to the temp I asked so they put down a hole new stake and that one came out blue raw I couldn't even cut through it so I sent it back a second time and I guess I up set the cook/Chef because when my waitress brought it back out it was well done like I'm talking dry and gray no to mention that my grandma who asked for medium well also got an under cooked stake the waitress just ignored her and to top it all off not only did they try and say that it's because of the grill not staying up to temp the entire time they told us that the cook/Chef was concerned that the well done stake that my stepdad got was going to be wrong and that's the easiest type of stake to cook I'm going to wait a few weeks before returning because I do believe in second chances but as of right now I was severely in satisfied with my experience the only reason I'm giving a two star is do to the service o and not a major issue but if you call it sweet tea make it sweet read more

The only reason I would give this place more than 1 star is because of the service. The server was friendly and accommodating, although she didn't realize we were seated to her for 10 mins. The restaurant was filthy. The floors were disgusting. Food was mediocre, and ended up making my family sick. Coffee was good, but how do you mess up coffee really. Ordered onion rings with the chipotle sauce, but they didn't have the sauce and offered us ketchup instead. Fries and onion rings looked like and tasted like they were cooked in old oil. Food is amazing and the service was phenomenal. I had the shrimp dinner and my boyfriend had the seafood dinner. Both were well made.

Food is alright, but my last visit was very unpleasant. Me and my little brother sat down, a young female employee came and asked my brother his name. Initially We didn't think much of it, approximately 60 seconds later a customer physically showed up and began verbally asking my little brother questions. My brother who is a child respectfully stated he did not have anything to talk about and declined to engage in conversing. The berating individual Still standing over us at the table (Me and my brother were seated at) continued ranting, creating an awkward Situation, at this point I told the lady to leave my brother alone. The furious lady then angrily said she is talking to my brother and not me. She continued ranting and I let her know anything pertaining to my brother she can talk with me about because I'm an adult and she is an adult and he(little bro) is a child. The ignorant lady still adamant that she was only talking to my brother and not me, continued to bombard us as another employee approached the table. Currently at this point still being bombarded by the bickering adult lady standing in front of us blocking us in the booth style seats. When the employee got near, the lady took a couple steps back, giving us a few feet of space. The employee which I assume was watching the whole ordeal then asked "told" my brother and me to leave. Feeling and knowing we had no option We promptly stood up to walk out the door as the harassment continued the rude and ignorant lady felt the need to tell us in a somewhat threatening, very forceful manner to get out go, leave now. My brother and I were consumers looking forward to eating breakfast unfortunately doing nothing wrong sitting down preparing to eat. The young female employee acted as a messenger confirming my brother's name before sending the lady customer who harassed us until we were unfairly made to leave the restaurant by a different employee and through continued harassment by the lady customer. We were unjustly treated I do not understand why an employee would cause a scene through another individual, nor do I find it acceptable how the employees handled the situation. The lady should of never been informed or allowed to assault us, and when she did approach us she should of been escorted away. Maybe the lady is a more frequent customer, but that does not justify any actions of the staff members or the end result of the event. read more

Warren, Pa Restaurant just opened up July 15th, 2021 Everyone has been raving about how good the food and service was at this restaurant. So my friend and I decided we would go to dinner there. Waited a few minutes to be seating no big deal. Waitress came over took our drink order and food order. Then the wait was on. Waited while 5 other sets of people were seated behind us in our section. Slowly they all got their drink orders and we still had nothing after waiting for over 25 minutes. Then I happened to notice a guy wasn't sure who he was at the time took out half of a full gallon of milk and poured a glass and never put it back in the fridge. We finally had to get ahold of the hostess who was checking tables to tell her our problem with no drink she asked what we had ordered and so she said I'll be back. Well she never showed back up, but our waitress did and asked what we had ordered like she couldn't look on our ticket?? So another table was served appetizer and then we finally got our drinks. And guess what the milk was finally put away 20 minutes later and by that time we figured out that it was the manager who left it out and came back to put it away after several people had walked by that same jug of milk and left it sitting on the counter while they got their guests part of their orders. So our food finally comes out. I get a rectangular plate sandwich cut on half and on each end and it was cold. Nothing in between waitress asks what did you want as a side dish. Well when I had ordered I told her fries would be fine. So finally got my fries in a separate dish. But my friend ordered steak, hash browns and eggs. Well the steak looked odd really pink on the outside, very dry and when they cut it open was pink as ordered but when bit into it. Tasted like fish, smelled like fish, and they made me smell it first and then taste it. So we asked for manager he fixed another plate for them and it came out smelling like beef, looked like beef, and tasted like beef. I ended up taking home half my sandwich which only had a small pile of meat in the middle of the bread with over a inch of bread on all sides of meat. I want meat all over my sandwich no matter if on the crust or not. And the checkout took almost longer than being seated. They were also showing how they had fake horror movie special effects like head wounds and such playing on the tv while your waiting to be checked in or out. Not very appetizing to me. Also they had no wifi available and if you looked close they did not finish trim around windows, gluing up rubber kick plate baseboard, or finish putting up trim in other areas that people can see. And they only had 3 waitresses for the whole restaurant should bring in more when they know they are going to be slammed for opening and have that new crowd checking them out. Just a quick note our waitress was a 9 year veteran of doing that job at another restaurant. Yes the manager thanked up for pointing out problems as my friend and I have owned food business and know what is required to run one. Oh and before we left I went to the restroom and had to talk to the manage one more time before we left. Someone had plugged up the handicapped stall. I will say they did make a nice improvement on the restrooms a person in wheelchair can finally use it unlike before when it was perkins. Maybe that's a big maybe try again once they get their stuff together and for a different time of day for different foods. But until then Good Luck I won't be wasting my time or money there. We never did get comped for the meal we had to send back either. read more
