Pho broth is good. I'll likely continue to come back for the broth. I'm glad that they've updated the noodles and reduced the amount of noodles to match the portion of the soup given. Although it would have been better to increase the soup portion and keep the noodle portion, considering that price has gone up to a whopping $18 per bowl. But I do understand inflation and I get it. We went on a week day as the service was very quick and friendly. We seated immediately with water. We knew we were walking into a hidden gem when we passed the karaoke stage. We got a chicken pho #16, #30 bun thit heo nuong (vermicelli bowl) and #1 spring roll. I'd like to start off by saying I've gone to many pho restaurants but have never had pho with chicken that isnt dry. The chicken in this pho was so moist and juicy it felt like it was straight off the rotisserie and they were definitely not greedy with how much was put in. Broth was great too! The vermicelli bowl was very flavorful with the meat and the sauce really brings a lot to the dish. Our comment was that the peanut sauce from the spring rolls did not have a strong peanut flavor. I never get tired of coming here in the past 15-20 years. Same old same old. First time revisiting since year 2020. They serve good Vietnamese noodle bowls, vermicelli plates, and rice plates here. Well maintained and clean inside with good fans up in ceilings. Portions are extremely generous and seats/tables are very comfortable. Spacious seatings available in the larger dining area. Staffs are the older crowds who keep working hard serving its local and new customers everyday. Lady speaks good enough English. Older man is getting old. Overall, good service and delicious meals. You can do self check out with your table number near bar area nowadays instead of having to walk all the way to the front entrance area. Good casual environment. I had my regular Bun Rieu crab tofu tomato soup noodle bowl $16.95 now. #53 Fresh Coconut juice $5.25, and #50 Three Color Bean With Coconut Milk $6.45. Everything is still very satisfying. Biggest difference these days is that there are no huge lines or crowds during weekdays lunch hours now. People are really dining out less. This restaurant has been here for as long as I have worked in Silicon Valley over the past two decades. I still enjoy coming here very much. Parking lot is still empty on weekdays. You may have had better foods elsewhere, but for a quick casual lunch, this won't disappoint. Menu definitely got smaller compared to over 15 years ago. This is one of my go to places in Newark Fremont area. Whenever I'm in town I eat here. Food is always good, never crowded and good service. Came in 2 days in a row for dinner. Day 1 had pork barn mi and fresh spring rolls, day 2 had the spring rolls again and a bowl of beef pho. Spring rolls are really good here and I get every time. Peanut sauce is different, it's thinner than most and served warm. Still good Hahn me was really good. Was worried bread might not be so fresh but was really fresh and very tasty. They were offer a buy 3 get one 1 pho soup for free on that day (10/28/22). Pro: we were seated right away and the service was friendly. We were offered water as soon as we sat down and the food came out nice and hot. So, I've lived in Fremont for many years and although this restaurant is in Newark I've seen and passed it by many times. Newark/Fremont border. So, I finally visited since I maybe leaving CA soon. My 1st visit was during lunch. I was greeted warmly and I did not have to wait. I was craving a rice plate so I went with a Com Tan Suon Bo Dai Han or rice plate with Korean style beef and a fried spring roll. The meat was very tender and delicious. Seasoned perfectly. The rice was also great, warm fluffy, cooked well. The spring roll was nice and crispy and came with the traditional dipping sauce. I cobbled it up in no time when I got home. My second visit was also around lunchtime, I git a pork banh mi. The sandwich was good it had lettuce and the picked carrots and daikon, and I believe butter and mayo although I didn't really taste those elements. I added mayo when I got home. The meat was also nice and tender and its texture melded well with the fresh baguette. I was disappointed that it had no cilantro or jalapeños, so to me the flavor was missing that element. My third visit I brought my friend for dinner. She had the veggie banh mi with tofu. She said it was good. It seamed to have everything I expected, she is vegan so no butter or mayo though. It was huge and the avocado they put in was also sliced rather largely. We shared the raw spring rolls with tofu in them. They were good but the peanut sauce seamed to be a bit loose. Other than that spot on flavor. I had the Pho Suon Bo! Besides the way it looked the beef was hella tender, came right off the bone. The noodles were not as soft as I wanted but the texture was what I expected, sorta al dente. It came with all the sides, lemon, bean sprouts, cilantro, Thai basil, etc..The serving was large and I took it home to go. I also got a Vietnamese coffee which was very good although I wanted it a bit sweeter. I should have mentioned it to them though, so my bad. The restaurant setting is very large, like a banquet, it's separated in two parts. There were maybe only 3-4 other couples there and a couple single folks, but it still seamed very empty. Which leads me to wonder how they stay open but the food if so good I couldn't imagine them not being profitable. Service was prompt and friendly, the food came out rather quickly but they could have checked in a bit more often. Other than that it was fine. I did like the fact that I was able to get my own to go containers and the gentleman concierge was very nonchalant and cool. The Mrs' who saw us to our table and always greeted me at the desk is very nice, a gentle demeanor. Very pretty too. She must be the owner. I'll definitely be back again before I leave Cali! We came by accident but were pleasantly surprised by how delicious our meals were. The older gentleman who served us was kind and made amazing suggestions for how they eat the meals in Vietnam. I ordered the beef stew- I order this everything I go to pho restaurant. So having it served with the Bahn mi bread- was a surprise but, I will never want it any other way again. The bread was perfectly light, crusty, and soft in the middle. Soaking up the stew in every bite. Hubby ordered #31. I always order the Com Tam Combo with the Goi Cuon and it never disappoints.The grilled pork chop is always so juicy and tender that combines well with the broken rice *MY BIGGEST CONCERN * The service is very lack luster to say the least, ... the owner seems very standoffish, this is always the case and I now only order online. If things get any worse I will sacrifice good food for better service somewhere else (long story short, our first time eating dine in, he cuts our meal short because I guess we were at the table to long , he told the buss boy by saying "yeah they are done , go ahead they are done" while we were still eating and chatting!) I didn't think too much of it because I thought they were closing but I look up to see that he was rushing us out for the next customer. This place is known for their broken rice plates. I've never had broken rice before this, but essentially they are broken rice grains from the milling process, so the rice grains used is a lot smaller and shorter. I had the special broken rice plate, which came with shredded pork and grilled pork. It was pretty good, but I think recently they raised the prices so it's basically around $20, which I think is quite pricey for a rice plate. It does satisfy my Viet food cravings when I'm in the Fremont/Newark area. read more

This location is convenient and close to the freeway off Stevenson for your Vietnamese cuisine fix. I love the Pho among their menu offerings of vermicelli and rice dishes. The broth is what makes it for me especially if I'm feeling the need for a healthy pick me up, a lighter meal or getting my noodle fix. They have indoor dining and are observing social distancing between patrons, provide sanitizer, and are wearing masks. They are quick to seat and classically for Pho restaurants are quick to take your order as well. They used to have small and large servings of Pho with price approprite pricing but that currently does not reflect on their menu. I'm sure they would allow a large serving for an additional price. The flavor of the broth is very appealing to me. I do add Sriracha and plum sauce and add the veggies that accompany the dish which include the jalepenos, sprouts, cilantro, Viet basil and lime. They have become a little more costly over the past year or so. For 3 regular size Pho and 3 specifically drinks not including tip was about $74! This review is wayyy overdue as my family and I have been coming here for years now! We enjoy all of their dishes along with their great service they provide to all their patrons. Their broth and noodles are great! I love the different selection of pho you can get from them. Not to mention their togo is already clean and perfectly package for you when you pick up. Had beef Pho from this place yesterday. The soup was amazing. I had the well-done beef Pho and ordered a side of tripe and tendon. We ordered tofu and lettuce spring rolls which were fresh and fried egg rolls that were tasty. The egg rolls are made with pork and were crunchy and crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. We ordered Thai tea with boba and it was hands down the best Thai tea I've ever had. It was perfectly balanced between the tea and the cream, and it was not too sweet. The boba was perfect too. It was chewable, not too mushy or chewy, and tasty. The restaurant is clean and spacious. They have an area for large parties, including a buffet and stage. Highly recommend this place. They have a special where you can buy 3 soups and get one free. This a great deal as the cold season approaches and if you have busy workdays, you can stock up!! read more

Was craving pho yesterday and ordered some to go. Although the noodle portion wasn't much, they were very generous with the meat. The soup was also very good and the service was good too, as they were very friendly. Today my son wanted Banh Mi so we ordered some, it was really good. The meat was so tender and flavorful I just couldn't get enough to. The sandwiches are a good size for the price we paid. Here is what we had in the two days: Combination pho: Rice noodle with rare beef, well done beef, meatballs - like I said, for the to go order there wasn't a lot of noodles but a lot of meat. Really love this place. I come here whenever I get my car serviced at the KIA dealership. The customer service have always been excellent. It's also very nice to see the same familiar face. Parking is always plentiful as they are located in an outskirt mall. I don't know if they are a branch from the several locations in San Jose, but their food taste about the same. I do however, really love their grilled beef. They always come out tender and tasty. I'm also very glad to see that they are still open especially during this challenging times. This has the best Pho or home style Vietnamese food in the Bay Area. I have been all over the bay and tried so many different spots but nothing compares to this one. The food is consistent in taste and service over the many years they have been here. You can tell it's a family run place and really authentic the way they remember their guests and are very lax! The prices are a little higher compared to other Vietnamese restaurants but I was very pleased with the food and service that I do not mind the slight upsurge. The banh mi was larger than others I've had and I thought it was different (in a good way) that she added a little bit of lettuce. Bread was fluffy and freshly toasted. The Che ba mau had a perfect ratio of beans and milk. When I commented on it, owner beamed a sense of pride while stating "we cook the beans here ourselves instead of using canned." The pho broth was savory and not lacking on flavor. The beef was tender. I'd have to say that the only downside is that they only have one size for Pho. So I started coming here since my go to didn't warn me about their closure. Back to the review: I must admit Com Tam Thanh is one of my favorite restaurants in Fremont. I am a fan of the rice plates for sure from Chicken or Grilled pork are my top dishes. I don't get the pho or any of their soups except when I'm sick and need the pho broth to help me heal. We were looking for some late night food options. This spot closed at midnight which was great! We came around 8 or 9 pm. The person taking our order told us there's a deal, buy 3 soups (or banh mi) and get 1 free. Luckily 4 people wanted to order soups. However! They were running out of normal noodles and our pho noodles were thick/flat. Even in the vermicelli bowl. I got a pho dac biet and the broth was great on its own. So flavorful without being too salty! The only thing I didn't like was the noodles that came with it. I also got one order of spring rolls. Their rolls don't include mint so if you have a picky eater or a mint-hater, this is a good one. The sauce is also pretty good. I recently had peanut sauce from another pho restaurant and I didn't enjoy it because it tasted like it was just plain peanuts. I'm not sure what you put in peanut sauce but I like it to be also savory. Their menu is on the smaller side but it definitely didn't disappoint!
