The only…read morereason I didn't give 5 stars is bc check in was a bit confusing; when I arrived there was no staff at the desk or in the lobby, and I didn't receive any info about how to check in. However, when I arrived I hunted down a phone number in an old confirmation email and got directly in contact with someone (David) who told me exactly how to find my room key and explained where everything was. The whole place is fairly spacious! There are three floors (my room was a 5-bed dorm style room on the third floor), and the main bathroom is on the third floor too. It had two very clean shower stalls with plenty of toiletries for showers, and 3 bathroom stalls. The whole vibe of the bathroom was old Victorian rustic - very cute. The 5 bed room was shockingly comfy too - there were at least 3 other people in my room (clearly all hikers as well, very friendly), and I was bottom bunk. The beds themselves were super comfy, the pillows seemed like memory foam or something similar, and each bed had a fan and wall outlets. There was enough space under the bunks and on the little desk that the room didn't feel overcrowded with luggage either. And there was a small movie theater area in the basement, kitchen behind the lobby desk that is for everyone to use, and some little tables and chairs around including on the second floor which is where I ate dinner. Ngl, I actually appreciated that there were 3 others in my room and clearly several other people also staying in the Avon because it has a "haunted" feel to it, but having so many other happy/friendly hikers and travelers around just makes it feel cozy and safe. Overall: this place is in silverton, a super cute little Colorado town near tons of awesome hikes and gorgeous million dollar freeway! It is cozy, clean, and has plenty of resources. Throughout the entire time, my service dog was exactly where a service dog should be--quietly lying under the table at my feet, causing absolutely no disruption. After waiting half an hour, I finally asked if we were ever going to be served. That's when we were told the issue was my service dog. When I questioned this, the bartender's response was to tell me I "didn't need an attitude." I've written maybe five Yelp reviews in my life, but this experience deserves to be shared. The way we were treated was humiliating, discriminatory, and completely unacceptable. It felt like we were being singled out simply because I have a disability and rely on a service animal. All six of us got up and left because of how we were treated. Small businesses deserve support when they treat people with respect. This business did the opposite. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone, and I sincerely hope no one else has to experience the kind of discrimination we did.

From the moment we walked through the door, we were welcomed with open arms. We had our medical service dog with us, and instead of questioning us, the staff immediately commented on how incredibly well-behaved he was--even joking that they wanted to keep him because he was such a good boy. The owner came over to introduce himself, made us feel genuinely welcome, and even treated us to a special whiskey dessert drink that was absolutely delicious. The food was fantastic, the cocktails were expertly made, the wine selection was excellent, and our kids had a great time. To top it all off, there was an old-school piano player creating the perfect atmosphere. It was one of those dining experiences that reminds you what true hospitality feels like. Maybe a little bright for a basement bar, but unlike your traditional dive bar, it was sparkling clean, so it's not like the dark was required to hide the dirt you'd rather not see.
