The Avon is actually a SUPER nice hostel/historic hotel - I was really happy with my stay! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is bc check in was a bit confusing; when I arrived there was no staff at the desk or in the lobby, and I didn't receive any info about how to check in. However, when I arrived I hunted down a phone number in an old confirmation email and got directly in contact with someone (David) who told me exactly how to find my room key and explained where everything was. The whole place is fairly spacious! There are three floors (my room was a 5-bed dorm style room on the third floor), and the main bathroom is on the third floor too. It had two very clean shower stalls with plenty of toiletries for showers, and 3 bathroom stalls. The whole vibe of the bathroom was old Victorian rustic - very cute. The 5 bed room was shockingly comfy too - there were at least 3 other people in my room (clearly all hikers as well, very friendly), and I was bottom bunk. The beds themselves were super comfy, the pillows seemed like memory foam or something similar, and each bed had a fan and wall outlets. There was enough space under the bunks and on the little desk that the room didn't feel overcrowded with luggage either. And there was a small movie theater area in the basement, kitchen behind the lobby desk that is for everyone to use, and some little tables and chairs around including on the second floor which is where I ate dinner. Ngl, I actually appreciated that there were 3 others in my room and clearly several other people also staying in the Avon because it has a "haunted" feel to it, but having so many other happy/friendly hikers and travelers around just makes it feel cozy and safe. Overall: this place is in silverton, a super cute little Colorado town near tons of awesome hikes and gorgeous million dollar freeway! It is cozy, clean, and has plenty of resources. I didn't feel crowded at all. read more

No public lounge. Seems sort of deserted but at least no public lounge the day we were here, a Thursday at 12:30.

The private rooms are awesome if you're not a thru hiker... AND if you are! The people (and dog) who own it/run it are super friendly. If you don't like dogs, just be aware that a very calm and sweet dog walks the halls freely to ensure guests are comfortable and happy with their stay. The bar/kitchen is open use for guests to use and there's a hiker box behind the bar. (They do not serve or sell, in other words, plenty of other places nearby for that if you want!) The Avon is within walking distance (lol) of everything you need in Silverton. Would definitely stay here again, whether I'm hiking in or driving in to visit Silverton. read more

What an awesome spot! So dog friendly. After having to leave our AirBnb in Ridgway due to unforeseen circumstances, we ended up here Ion on a whim and I am SO glad we did. We brought our little pup, June, who got to meet and hang out with many other dogs in the common spaces. The room we stayed in was so unique and precious (although the floor was crooked... which was funny), and the bed was perfectly comfortable. These guys are thieves. They took my money for a stay that I never had. They absolutely would not talk to me or communicate with me once the mistake was found. Patrick and Daniel would not respond to any texts or voicemails, and they would not call me back. Their outgoing messages sounded like they were 18 years old. I believe my problem arose from using their cut-rate scheduling web site. I'll never know though, because there is no communication with them whatsoever. If you like rolling the dice with a hotel where there will be no humans involved in the process, then this is the hotel for you. God only knows what it's like if you get there and have any issues with the room. read more

I loved this place! It's got so much charm and funky style! We stayed in a triple stacked bunkbed room, the beds were very comfortable and cozy. Pat was great, and so were the house keepers. The rooms are cute and the lobby/living room area was so cozy with the wood stove going at all times. You are able to use the bar and kitchen to store items. This would be a great place to come with a large group of people. The shared bathrooms for the hostel style bunk rooms were clean and had nice products to use. Long overdue review. Stayed here July 11-12, 2020. Perfect place to stay if you're visiting Silverton. We came here to hike Ice Lake. Owner was more than hospitable. Called to make sure we were still arriving as we were running a bit late. He stayed up and made sure we checked in. The hotel is very nice. The remodel looks like they put some money into it. Up date and modern. Met the owner's dog made me wish I brought my two dogs. And the basement area was amazing. UFC 251 was on and was able to enjoy the fights before crashing out. Breakfast foods and coffee was provided. I wish I came here not during covid but will definitely stay here again of I was to hike Ice Lake again. Which I probably will this summer. As soon as you walk through the doors of the Avon, you can tell that the building has heart and soul poured into it. From the decorations to the wood burning stove, the Avon feels like a mountain home away from home, and the staff feels like family. Daniel, the owner and master mind behind the Avon, is so driven and inspired by the surrounding town and mountain scapes, and we had an amazing and meaningful conversation. One of the most adorable hotels I've stayed in. Decor was eclectic and interesting. We got a room with a queen and a bunk bed, so I can't speak to the hostel bunk beds room. Room was a good size. Wish it had screens on the window to keep bugs out, but had 2 fans in the room to make up for it. Shared Bathroom was the cleanest bathroom I've ever seen and decor was posh. Prices were well below other hotels in town. Dan the owner is fantastic and available by text during your stay to answer any questions. Would recommend. read more

HOLY COW. The ambiance, the service, this place is amazing. The vibe is so comfortable, I might've very well been in my own living room, sitting my a crackling fire. Guinness, my 10 year old Doberman Pinscher, was also made feel very welcome. I'd go back just to hang out here for a week. VERY cool place to be. read more

Excellent place to stay in Silverton for as they say, the Artist, the Musician, and the Adventurer. Very friendly laid back service and an awesome house dog, Ivy. This historic hotel in the center of town is a nice change of pace from your ordinary chain hotel. We enjoyed the record player and album selections in our room. It has all the history of an old mining lodge with some nice upgraded amenities. It made our trip to Silverton complete. read more

This was hands down the worst traveling experience we have ever had. Our trip to Colorado was amazing and the town of Silverton was so very pretty and picturesque HOWEVER the Avon was NOT as advertised. The website and photos are absolutely nothing like real life. I was honestly scared to even go in the hotel once we got there. We decided upon pulling in the parking lot, to cancel as it was very sketchy looking and since then complete and utter nightmares with the owners/managers of the establishment in getting our money back. Damn this place is cool. We needed a last minute pet friendly place to get a few hours of sleep and a shower and this place was awesome. Upon booking we were questionable about what we were walking into but it was an really unique experience. The building is so authentic &historic, the bar/lobby is rustic and you get a beer with check in! I wish we could've taken advantage of the offer and sat at the bar, but we were so exhausted we went straight to sleep! The shared bathrooms/showers are completely renovated, extremely clean and nice, and have towels and toiletries waiting for you. We had a quiet night and a great night sleep. FYI- no AC. I'm assuming this is normal in a mountain town like Silverton, but for us it was unusual. However, during our August visit we left the window open and a fan was provided and this was enough for a nice evening. Not cold, but not hot. Would definitely stay here again and thankful they are so dog friendly! read more

I stayed here over Christmas and it was an absolutely lovely experience. The owner has remodeled the building recently and has poured his heart and soul into it and it shows! It's a wonderful spot if you are looking for a fun atmosphere and a home base for your adventures. There is a bar currently and the basement was set to fully open soon, which I can't wait to see once it's complete. Definitely a 5-star hostel/hotel w more ammenities to come! Have stayed here twice (once for a long weekend during Silverton Unguided '19 the first year they were open) and again just for a night as a place to get prepped for Chicago Basin backpacking. Newly remodeled and beds and rooms and common areas are are very clean and tidy. Didn't have any drinks this time, but last time my buddy and I def partook of happy hour. And this time the "movie theater" downstairs (free netflix streaming and a couple others) was up and running enough to veg out a bit last night (albeit def still under construction). Both times, Dan - owner/manager - let me leave a small amount of cold perishables in a fridge and last time he was kind enough to let me make use of the stove bc he didn't have food yet and most restaurants in the area are closed during Silverton Unguided...tho not sure if either of those are ongoing policies. Didn't ask to cook this time as only here for a night and plenty of restaurants are open during high season. Great location with easy parking and an awesome 3rd floor balcony that gets great afternoon sun and a large comfy common area downstairs with games and such. My one complaint: the only ammenity it would have been nice to have (and recall this and think i gave feedback on it last time) is some sort of shower head basket in the showers since no place to put shampoo/soap. Obviously, very minor...almost nitpicking-like! read more

We have always wanted to stay in Silverton and we found an opening at the Avon. It is newly opened and still a little rough but we think it's a diamond in the rough. The owner checked us in and was super friendly. We were offered complimentary check in beverages and that was well welcomed after our trip from Colorado Springs. The custom designed bar with a railroad theme was incredible. Look forward to seeing the place when it's completed. read more

I went to the Avon hotel with a group for a wedding and i honestly loved everything about it. Dan the owner and his staff were all very accommodating and ready to help in anyway. The beds were super comfy and warm for the brisk night. The bathrooms are all new and very clean. The Avon has a unique set up like it was an old saloon and I'm obsessed with the infusion of modern and old design. Since it just opened mainly for this wedding we attended there was not a restaurant in the hotel but, we loved the short walk to an abundance of restaurants and shops. Double check on this policy but it seemed to be dog friendly which was a bonus. Oh and I traveled with my 6 year old and she also had a blast. read more

I am through hiking the Colorado Trail. I would like to give huge props to Daniel from the Avon Hotel and Bar in Silverton. He just opened and it's a very nice place with lots of history. Place is right next door to the hostel. I was zeroing here and decided to stay an extra day. Rooms are really comfortable, and the shower is, "oh my." It's not the Grand Hyatt but if you like comfort and vintage with an eclectic fare The Avon is the place. read more
