Gas station yards from any room door opening!!
    Concerned C.

If you're into ATV riding this hotel is for you!! It comes with a gas station literally yards from the opening of most of the rooms, and NO AC , so one MUST keep the windows open in summer... so yep... you guessed it... the smell of petro exhaust and the Gy-Normous sounds of all terrain vehicles and BMX bikers and Jeep's and four wheelers revving their engines at oh God thirty in the morning and all night long!! It's the antithesis of relaxing or even getting just a modicum of sleep! Plus my room smelled of cigarette smoke so bad I Gat a splitting headache! Literally motel six is a paradise compared to this sorry excuse for a motel!! So if you're wondering why this hotel has vacancy in prime time... don't waste another brain cell!! It's well warranted!! God give me strength!!!

The Avon is actually a SUPER nice hostel/historic hotel - I was really happy with my stay! The only…read morereason I didn't give 5 stars is bc check in was a bit confusing; when I arrived there was no staff at the desk or in the lobby, and I didn't receive any info about how to check in. However, when I arrived I hunted down a phone number in an old confirmation email and got directly in contact with someone (David) who told me exactly how to find my room key and explained where everything was. The whole place is fairly spacious! There are three floors (my room was a 5-bed dorm style room on the third floor), and the main bathroom is on the third floor too. It had two very clean shower stalls with plenty of toiletries for showers, and 3 bathroom stalls. The whole vibe of the bathroom was old Victorian rustic - very cute. The 5 bed room was shockingly comfy too - there were at least 3 other people in my room (clearly all hikers as well, very friendly), and I was bottom bunk. The beds themselves were super comfy, the pillows seemed like memory foam or something similar, and each bed had a fan and wall outlets. There was enough space under the bunks and on the little desk that the room didn't feel overcrowded with luggage either. And there was a small movie theater area in the basement, kitchen behind the lobby desk that is for everyone to use, and some little tables and chairs around including on the second floor which is where I ate dinner. Ngl, I actually appreciated that there were 3 others in my room and clearly several other people also staying in the Avon because it has a "haunted" feel to it, but having so many other happy/friendly hikers and travelers around just makes it feel cozy and safe. Overall: this place is in silverton, a super cute little Colorado town near tons of awesome hikes and gorgeous million dollar freeway! It is cozy, clean, and has plenty of resources. I didn't feel crowded at all.

The host were attentive and the B&B was within walking distance to the Main Street. They also excepted dogs and they also had a cute dog. I thought the room was cozy although my friend who actually booked the room did think it was small. It is a historical building so I think in relation to todays standards it is small but it's was built in 1898, so just know the rooms are small and enjoy the coziness. They offered a breakfast, but when we arrived the host was on the phone booking a guest. We both were a tad confused on how to proceed so we decided to leave and get on with our day. I think a bit more communication regarding the breakfast would have made it a better experience. I would definitely stay there again even with the breakfast miscommunication.

I looked at all the hotels in the area, and this one stood out for some reason. The Alma House hotel was a wonderful experience for me. The owners, Matt and Mikki, were very gracious hosts. I enjoyed talking with Matt, who is very knowledgeable of the history of the area and also of the hotel. Very personable and nice guy. The breakfast was excellent, and the room was cozy and comfortable. I have absolutely no complaints. Thanks again Matt! Ben L. Hondo, TX

The location is perfect…read moreright before entering Silverton, in a valley surrounded by sheer beauty and nature and also right next to the Animas River and the Durango Silverton train rails. Everywhere is well graveled and level and I didn't even have to level the trailer! That's something I seldom experience anywhere even at RV parks unless they have concrete slabs which I don't like. This place is not an expensive but not too much more than other RV parks and this is an absolutely beautiful location, especially at this time of year. The facilities include very and I mean very clean bathrooms and showers and an inexpensive laundry along with inexpensive ice. No fire pits here but you can do rustic or tent camping or full hookups. I seldom pay but I was in the mountains for 3 days and my power ran out! That being said, if you need a good RV park with really good facilities and nice people, this is definitely a place to consider.

I stayed on the new RV park side of the property so I cannot comment on rooms. The park was clean,…read morethe restroom building was cleaned to a high standard every day. I did not use the Wi-Fi. The property is conveniently located across the street from the grocery, a few doors down from the hardware store, and a five minute walk to the center of town. The new RV park section is all gravel. Not my favorite, but in an arid climate, perfectly reasonable. A camping carpet helped to make the situation much better. There are two large fields on either side of the new section where you can exercise your pets. You're also close to the river if you want to go wading, or take your dog for a swim. The Durango train runs by the campground, and reverses in the siding next-door. Never got tired of seeing the trains. If you are there for the Fourth of July, the Silverton fireworks are in your living room! I had no issues while I was staying here. The only suggestions I would have would be to offer online booking rather than having to connect via a phone call. While personal interaction is great, when you are on the road and need to know that you have a place to go to, Online booking would be much easier. The other suggestion would be to offer discounts for long-term stays. Their prices are fair, but on the high end and a discount for staying a week or month or longer would be A reasonable thing to do.
