Cute clean rooms! The best shower I've taken in months! Quiet western town that's fun to stay overnight when coming in on the Narrow Gauge Steam Train from Durango. Nice restaurant connected to the hotel. Highly recommend this old fashioned hotel. read more

This hotel is a meca for antique lovers. Everything is dated back to the original opening in 1882. The customer service was amazing! We met the owner himself, James, and he made sure that we had everything we needed. My husband has health issues and James assisted in every way possible. We will definitely stay there again. This is an absolute gem of a hotel, the decor and antiques transports you way back in the heyday of Silverton. We stayed only for one night, during COVID, and it was saddening to see that breakfast was not provided. Not in the dining room nor in room. It's a bit of a miss, since other hotels have made arrangements for in-room snacks and breakfast items. The staff was a hit or miss. I spoke to someone on the phone, before booking, and she was really curt. The young brunette manning the front desk was also not attempting to be friendly at all, but I also luckily corresponded with Ana who was very useful and plenty friendly, and we interacted with a middle aged blonde woman that was very welcoming. So it's a total hit or miss, as far as friendliness, which seems to be the case in this area in general. We stayed in room 307 because it had a tub. Boy am I glad we did, I took a super long hot bath and it felt marvelous. I wish I had a clawfoot at home to soak in. I wish my home looked entirely like this! This is such a lovely hotel in such a lovely town, so glad we stayed here. read more

When I travel, I seek out hotels with a history, as they undoubtedly possess more character and local charm than the national chains with which we are all familiar. They often fetch a premium, but that's the price you pay for the experience of lodging at an historic (and likely haunted) inn. Located in the heart of Silverton's quaint historic district, The Grand Imperial Hotel exudes Victorian-era, small mountain town charm. The spacious lobby is home to a fully functional antique grand piano, several antique couches, and numerous historic photos of Silverton's storied past. My room was not as ornate as the lobby but cute and charming nonetheless, not to mention spacious and impeccably clean. I had hoped to reserve room 314, the alleged source of countless paranormal phenomena (disembodied voices, poltergeist activity, an intangible sense of presence), but it had already been booked. This did not stop me, however, from conducting an abbreviated instrumental trans-communication (ITC) session late in the evening just outside the door. I attempted to reach the spirit of Luigi Regalia, a former tenant who committed suicide by gunshot in that room in 1890. Alas, the session proved to be a bust with only a few incomprehensible EVPs and no discernible ethereal connection on my part. Perhaps Mr. Regalia was offended by my Nintendo/"Luigi is my homeboy!" pajama bottoms. As much as I enjoyed my stay at The Grand Imperial, I greatly preferred the experience I had the previous year at The Wyman, an inn with a similar aesthetic and history just a few blocks down the street. Though considerably smaller, the Wyman's rooms were festooned with dozens of antiques (lamps, mirrors, paintings) and struck me as more welcoming. I also had two extraordinary paranormal experiences there, though I can't fault The Grand Imperial for failing to produce a restless Earthbound spirit on command. If you plan to visit Silverton (and I recommend you do, at least for the gorgeous mountain scenery), The Grand Imperial Hotel is a solid recommendation. If The Wyman has a vacancy, however, I recommend booking a room there instead; it's slightly more charming, a bit more intimate, and considerably more haunted. Review coming soon. read more

This is a historic hotel and the room was very pretty, however, there are a few things guests should be made aware of. 1. There is no elevator and the stairs can be taxing, especially at 9300 feet. 2. Our room had a king size bed that was so high off the floor, I had to use these wooden steps to climb into the bed! 3. There is NO phone or clock of any kind! You had better have a cell phone in case you need to call the front desk. read more

We stayed two nights at he Grand Imperial Hotel in Silverton co. It had been recently renovated. Even though there is a lot of history associated with this hotel it was very nice and the rooms had been updated without losing all their character and charm. Our traveling companions' room had a claw foot tub in their bathroom. It was new but still added to the charm of the hotel. Our room had a modern shower and all new fixtures in the bathroom It was very nice Reasonably insulated for sound we rarely heard anyone next door to us or walking above us. We were apparently in the "ghost room" 219. However, since we are not "believers" in ghosts we did not see or hear anything out of he ordinary. And I stayed up nearly all of the first night due to altitude sickness. All of the staff was very friendly and helpful. It was very nostalgic to imagine all the famous western icons who probably stayed in this very hotel. I would definitely recommend giving it another shot if you were there prior to the 2016 remodel. I accidentally write this review for the Teller Hotel on Trip Advisor and could not remove it. We stayed one night this September as part of a musical rail tour. This hotel is great. Beds were small but very comfortable. Very clean. Bathroom was very clean and they had nice lush towels. The bar and restaurant were good. I must also say the staff busted their butts to accommodate our large group. I will return read more

Wife and I bought the Step Back in Time package which include train transportation from Durango and back. The hotel was fabulous and the staff were amazing. Stayed two nights and have no complaints with the facility or people. Recommend if you plan to stay in Silverton that you give this place a try. read more

A wonderful experience in Silverton, CO! The Grand Imperial was purchased by a new owner, and he's done fantastic things with this jewel of a building. Super nice guy too! We've been coming to Silverton for years, but this was our first time staying here. The hotel has been beautifully restored, and manages to feel warm and welcoming without the stale and dated feeling I find when staying in other historical hotels. The staff were all very attentive and friendly. Our room was gorgeous (the photos dont do it justice!), the king bed was plush and comfortable, and the views of the mountains were just stunning. Plus the bar had a great selection of local wines! Exactly what we needed for our weekend getaway. We will be back!!! read more

To expand upon Chad F's review of "old world building minus the old world charm" - Mr. F is spot on. The building is historic. Historic implies old. Old is exactly what everything here is...this place could really use a facelift! The beds feel like springs covered by a sheet of fabric, and the pillows were hard and lumpy. Not conducive to sleeping or laying on. The lobby looks grand, furnished with antique furniture. I sat on the couch (there weren't any signs saying not to...) and found my rear at the level of my heels. Strangest thing ever... Silverton can really be seen in about 6 hours. Sleep in Durango, spend the day in Silverton. Your neck and back will thank you. read more

We thoroughly enjoyed this beautifully restored hotel in Silverton. Friendly check in, comfortable and extremely clean rooms that were restored in the original Victorian style- we had a beautiful bureau in our room and the bathroom was roomy and brand new. Location is fantastic, it's attached to a coffee shop and centrally located in town and easy to walk the town. We are really impressed with the care taken to restore this hotel and would recommend and stay here again! read more

Two couples, two different rooms, it is nicely refurbished, we enjoyed our stay, although, two strange things happened. 1. My wife unlocked the door, set the key down, and that was the last we saw of it. We searched everything, invited our friends in to search, no sign of it. Ever. We had to get another from the front desk. 2. There was a rocking chair in the room, in our minds we saw Tony Perkin's character's mother from Psycho sitting in it, very creepy. We set it in the hall for the night, I sleep with an apap so will sleep through anything, my wife heard noises in the hall throughout the night. Certainly not as run of the mill as most hotels! On a pleasanter note, the bar and restaurant is great, fun, remarkable paintings most all done by a very talented painter, lots of historical knick knacks. Great food for breakfast. read more

We stayed three nights at the hotel. The hotel was lovely, comfortable, and they accepted my service dog. The challenges were the staff did not wear masks and there appeared to be little concern about the COVID virus in the hotel or in the town of Silverton. We were surprised to experience fewer hikers and more off road vehicle riders...this isn't our crowd. We didn't really feel a fit. As a result, we wanted to leave a day early; however, that isn't an option. Once you have made the reservation, a day or two prior to your check-in your account is charged. And that's it baby! Fabulous, charming historic hotel right off the main thoroughfare in Silverton, CO. They hotel has done a great job keeping the historic Victorian charm. Rooms, while small, provide adequate space. The rooms are well decorated and VERY CLEAN. Bathrooms have been remodeled to stay consistent with the hotel's historic charm. The Grand is an experience and a definite go-to if you're in Silverton. It's super old, creaky and most surely haunted. Yes, the decor and the furnishings are weathered, but what do you expect from a building built before 1900? It's like stepping back into time, it's amazingly historic and inviting, a true legendary gem in the mining town. If you're looking for a true old west experience, I recommend staying at the Grand. If you're looking for something updated with new furnishings, skip this place. Maybe skip Silverton if you can't appreciate it's historic roots read more

It's a beautifully decorated period hotel with some modern conveniences like bathrooms en suite. Just keep in mind that there is no a/c, elevator, or breakfast. Even though the temps dipped into the 50s overnight in July, our room was still warm & stuffy (our room was on the 3rd/top floor). We turned on the ceiling fan & had both windows open (no screens) & still too warm to sleep. Noisy with windows open too - like a compressor running all night. The cleanliness of the place is adequate. Had to pull a lot of long hair off the pillow cases (you could tell they had been laundered but they had a lot of static in them). That was gross. read more

This place is worse than any Motel 6 I've stayed in. My girlfriend and I went to Silverton recently for a wedding, and we booked two nights in this dump (I was dumb for not checking Yelp before we booked). Superficially, it looks nice from the outside and the lobby is quaint. But once you start walking up the stairs, you know you are going to be in for a noisy night's stay. Our room was small, poorly maintained, had paper thin walls and a very firm (i.e., rock hard) bed. One of the window coverings even fell down while we were there. The bathroom was a joke. Our neighbor kept us up, as we could hear him talk in his sleep. Even people who were whispering in the hallways could be easily heard in our room. The staff were friendly enough but didn't provide much assistance. The options are few in Silverton, so staying in other nearby towns will give you more options. read more

Loved the bathrooms and the spotless claw foot bathtub. It warmed my soul after a chilly razor ride in the mountains. Only thing missing was a Margherita. Beds were not the best but I guess that's part of the experience. One strange thing...the sheets were actually noisy. If you moved...It made all of this noise. You can hear every can go by outside as Windows are very thin. No AC as others said. But I was able to put a fan in the room to help drown the street noise. Fire alarm. Very nice and clean room. Comfortable and ready when we needed a nap after the train ride. Stairs only, so be prepared for that. Our room was perfect with a very nice updated bathroom and a good attempt at Victorian furnishings. Glad they opted for the modern flat screen, and king size bed. Would book again. read more

Nice old restored hotel. On busy Main Street and now owned by narrow gage railroad so be ready to have narrow gage tours and crap shoved down your throat. On site restaurant but no free or discounted meals including breakfast, no A/C and it gets HOT in there with only a ceiling fan and open windows. The Grand Imperial is a wonderful hotel in the historic mining town of Silverton, Colorado. The staff is super friendly and the General Manager Misty has bent over backwards to make my stays there memorable. I have stayed there for the last four years every June and their service is impeccable and the rooms super clean and comfortable. I would highly recommend it and a trip to Silverton. Also stop by and see Molly at the Golden Block Brewery she is awesome. Great food and beer. The Silverton community will take great care of you. read more

DON'T DO IT! I would give it a quarter of a star if I could. The locals suggested Wyman, the Silverton Inn, and even the Hostel, but not this place. If they would've had room I would have. I actually like old building but this was different. We checked in and the receptionist was personable and professional. The normal check out is 11am, but we asked for a late check out of noon. She checked and said it was no problem at all. No one was booked after us. Our room was wood paneling poorly painted over, particle tile ceiling, 1980's pastel bedding (decades of cooties I imagine), & mauve carpet. The floor squeaked with every step. The bathroom was scarier, they painted over the tile. The plastic bath wall only went up about 4 feet so the wall above was disintegrating where the water was splashing it, and the ceiling was moldy. This place screams of a disgruntle DIY project; it has not seen a professional anything in years. Ok,.. so it was only for one night, not the end of the world,.. At least I can sleep in,.. Right? Wrong! The cleaning lady knocks at 10:30. She wants us to know she is done cleaning the other rooms, only ours remains,.. and she wants to leave. We tell her we scheduled a late check out. She huffs and says WHAT! With WHO! What time?! We tell her the front desk person ok'd it, and it's a noon check out. She says WHAT! You need to GET OUT so I can leave! Well,.. surprisingly the conversation went downhill after that; and regardless of our declarations of never leaving at that point, we did pack and were out the door by 11:30. We will not be staying there again. read more

What a great find! As previously stated the hotel has been remodeled, the rooms are beautiful and very clean all with still keeping the historical touches. We stayed in the 2nd floor king room, the room was very large and the bed was comfortable. The front desk hours are fron 8-10am, and 2-4pm. Even during those times you have to call to get someone to get to the front desk. Real keys are left unattended in the lobby - zero security. There is no elevator. There are 49 steps to the third floor at 9300 feet elevation. My wife has issues with steps and they would not even try to accommodate getting us a first or second floor room. There are no phones in the room. There are no dressers or tables in the room There is no A/C. There is no coffee maker in the room. The low temperature the nights we were there was 39 degrees and the room never got below 82 degrees with the window open and the fan on (the hallway was cold, but the room was HOT). You have to make a decision: sleep with the door open to the common hallway or boil. Outside our room, the trash can was overflowing for two days with dirty diapers hanging out. The shower curtain around the clawfoot tub makes it so you can't adjust the water or use the soap dish. The is no refrigerator in the room. There is one electrical outlet for the room. I paid $980 dollars for five nights. I stayed for two nights and decided to stay in Durango instead. They do not give refunds for purchases from Booking.com so I lost $600. They say they offer help with bags - they don't. Avoid this place like the plague! read more

This a really cute quaint property. The rooms are small but very clean. There is no AC so the room was quite warm when we got in here 76' the fan and open window cooled down nicely. The front desk staff AKA ANNA was less than friendly upon check in. She was short and dismissive in her answers, acted as though we were intruding on her after hang out with her friends at the adjoining restaurant. Management might want to rethink the training IE customer service. We later ate at the aforementioned restaurant. The food was pretty good but the waitress ordered the wrong steak from the kitchen and never made it back for water refills. We were brought the ticket before we were finished eating. We would've ordered dessert had we not been practically been pushed out. The restaurant had only 4 tables occupied we were one of them. No reason to be acting in this manner when your table wasn't be waited for due to a busy evening. Again lack of customer care. Silverton Colorado is a tourist town staff should think about this at this hotel/restaurant. Staff elsewhere in the town have always been friendly and cordial. read more

We reserved a room for 2 nights. When we arrived late in the evening, the room was 90° with no a/c. We were told that we could open the window, although it had no screen. After approximately an hour, the room was still 85°. Because of my husbands health issues, there was no way we could stay in such conditions. They would only refund 50% of our cost. read more

Do not stay here! We seek out historic places to stay because we love the antiques and old historical buildings. The lady that checked us in was so rude! She is clearly unhappy being there!! Normally we are politely greeted and get information about the town, like where to eat and what to do, but she just gave us the key and told us the room number and sent us on our way (unfriendly and cold). Our room was not like the pictures on their website!! Our room had old white wicker furniture and the comforter was gross! Do yourself a favor and do not stay there! There is a bed and breakfast down the street that looked ALOT better inside. read more

The hotel and the staff were great. Being an historic hotel I was expecting the rooms to be dated but everything was in great shape. The bathrooms looked liked they had been recently redone. We were supposed to be in a room with an added hide a bed which would have been cramped. The hotel gave us a second room free instead of having us jam into one room. read more
