The host were attentive and the B&B was within walking distance to the Main Street. They also excepted dogs and they also had a cute dog. I thought the room was cozy although my friend who actually booked the room did think it was small. It is a historical building so I think in relation to todays standards it is small but it's was built in 1898, so just know the rooms are small and enjoy the coziness. They offered a breakfast, but when we arrived the host was on the phone booking a guest. We both were a tad confused on how to proceed so we decided to leave and get on with our day. I think a bit more communication regarding the breakfast would have made it a better experience. I would definitely stay there again even with the breakfast miscommunication.

Innkeepers Albert and Betty make The Alma House feel like your home away from home in the mountains. Before I delve into what's so great about this place (and the ghosts therein), please indulge me in some history. Bridget Hughes opened The Alma House in 1902 as a boarding house for local miners. Many mining towns died in the early 20th century, but Silverton survived, as did The Alma House, which has operated continually ever since. Current owners Albert and Betty purchased the property in the late 1980s, restoring it to its original glory. The interior is brimming with Victorian elegance, all polished mahogany, period fixtures (lamps, armoires, vanities), and antiques. Every nook features some vintage artifact, some cool story that Albert and Betty are eager to tell. I could have spent a week here and still not seen everything. The amenities are the best of both worlds: vintage Victorian and modern. For every quaint touch (old-school physical door keys, narrow, vertigo-inducing staircases), you'll find something modern and convenient, such as WiFi and renovated bathrooms with shower heads tall enough for non-midget boarders. Every morning, Albert will whip up a delightful complimentary breakfast that could include just about anything. On the day I visited, my breakfast consisted of perfectly scrambled eggs, crisp bacon, a mini biscuit topped with mushroom gravy, a "breakfast slaw" of cabbage, strawberries, apples, feta, and poppyseed dressing, and a mini waffle sandwich with whipped cream and blueberry compote. You won't find a breakfast of this caliber at a chain hotel. Oh, you want to hear about the ghosts? I thought you'd never ask! The moment I crossed the threshold, I sensed the presence of three spirits. I said nothing to Betty and Albert, as I feared they would take me for a loon. As an investigator of all things paranormal, though, I had to know if my clairsentience was accurate. That evening, I broke out my instrumental trans-communication equipment and conducted a session in my room. Within minutes, I reached a male spirit identifying himself as "Mark." He revealed himself to me mentally as a man decked out in late 19th-century military garb, but his face was blurry. "Mark" spoke the names "Albert" and "Elizabeth" (Betty) and said that he chose to remain there. I was still hesitant to broach the subject of spooks and specters with the innkeepers, but I screwed up my courage and went downstairs to discuss my findings with Betty. She smiled warmly and confided in me that the Alma House is indeed haunted by three spirits, one of whom (an older man nicknamed "The General") has been seen/felt/heard in my room (#3, The Alamosa Room) and the room next door (#5, The Silver Vista). The other two spirits, she continued, are those of Bridget Hughes and a portly woman nicknamed "The Schoolmarm." Later that night, I meditated and called upon Mrs. Hughes. For this session, I decided to use only my new EMF detector, The Rook. I had already done a baseline sweep of the room and found no EMF readings. I did this to rule out any false positives. I asked Mrs. Hughes to step forward and make The Rook flash once for "yes" and twice for "no." To my surprise, she (or whomever was in the room) obliged, setting off The Rook only when asked a yes/no question. I learned that she approved of the current innkeepers, disliked The General, and considered my Nickelodeon pajama bottoms tacky. The next time you visit Silverton, skip the overpriced, overhyped Wyman and Grand Imperial and book a room at The Alma House. Back in its storied history, relax, and make two new friends...and maybe three new dead friends.

There are two rooms downstairs,high ceilings and period furniture , one with a huge bathroom with big jetted tub and great views of the mountains. She had a lot of her original artwork displayed everywhere, we saw more of it later displayed in the local rum barMontoyas( great cocktails!) We spent 4 nights there on New Years to ski Silverton, and there was so much snow that fell our first night she even offered to drive us up to Molas Pass and show us a nice hike for our puppy, since our two wheel drive rental wouldn't have been safe to drive. It was a real nice gesture and we had a blast. There are two other resident puppies, both poodle mixes so hypoallergenic like my dog was, who were adorable, but still Judy was very respectful and only let them out after we requested that our dog meet them. Obviously not every guest likes animals and she was very polite about keeping them out of the way until we asked to meet them. Apparently she is truly pet friendly as she said her B&B hosted a variety of different animals from llamas to a hawk ( for a movie shoot). Lovely ,cozy, comfortable, can't wait to return!

It's not for everyone, but if you give it a try, you'll fall in love with the place. Its a lodge, it's sort of a bed-and-breakfast (make your own breakfast), and it's a hidden gem. The owners have lovingly restored the building into a comfortable, rustic, funky place of refuge. There are 17 bedrooms available on the second floor, with five shared baths. The main floor has a h-u-g-e kitchen with every appliance available, two stoves, a refrigerator and everything you need to prepare food for two or forty people. You can also have your meals catered. A table that seats 20+ people and a huge serving area make it perfect for family gatherings and corporate retreats. The living room has couches and chairs that beg to be curled up in, and the library has a wall full of books, a pot belly stove, and more chairs and couches that will force you to relax (as if you need to be forced). The second floor bedrooms are rustic and comfortable. One side of the lodge faces the Animas river, the other faces an aspen grove. The bathrooms are simple, but have everything you need. They are not ADA accessible, and the stairs are a good workout (especially at 10,000 feet elevation). For the wedding or retreat, there is a full, walk in basement with a bar, more bathrooms and a meeting area that will hold a bunch of people. Their setup for weddings is amazing; check out their website for more information. There is also a hot tub, a monster balcony overlooking the Animas River, fishing, and the ghost town of Animas Forks just up the road. I stayed here for a small corporate retreat and it was a huge success. The hardest part of the retreat was focusing on work and not on the scenery. I'll be going there again with my husband for a quiet weekend. The lodge is open in the winter, but it requires a 1/4 mile snowshoe, x-c ski or snowmobile ride to get to the lodge. Oh, and did I mention that there is no TV and no cell phone service? The internet is slow and unpredicable, but it gives you a great opportunity to unplug for a while and enjoy your surroundings and each other. Rustic comfort - give the Eureka Lodge a try.

The manager was super accommodating and had lots of recommendations about restaurants and activities in the area. Rates were reasonable, parking ample and the continental breakfast was basic, but good (great coffee!). They also have fuel and a convenience store. The only downside - and it only applies in the summer - is the lack of air conditioning. We opened windows and got the rooms cooled down with fans, so it was fine, but air is the only thing missing.

Even coming from the "easy" approach (from Ouray, not from Telluride), our rental vehicles struggled in perfect weather. 4WD recommended for any trip there. 2. Opus Hut has bathrooms, but zero bath/showers. There is an out building with a wood-burning sauna, but that is as close as it gets. 3. Be prepared for a significant vertical hike at nearly 12,000 ft. elevation to get there from your car with all of your gear. 4. Be prepared for cold! Even in the summer it is cool and evenings are cold. There are stoves but no central heating. 5. Know that you are getting away from it all, and plan to get nowhere else while you are there, except for some beautiful hiking trails in the amazing mountain setting. 6. No internet or cell phone coverage. See #5. 7. The Hut has no soundproofing, so hopefully your group all likes going to bed or being quiet at the same time. My room had a giant window with no cover, so I was up with the sun every morning. Again, all of these issues have both pros and cons to them, and my 3-star review is classified by Yelp as "A-OK". So if you aren't scared off by this information, you'll probably have a great time.

Bob was an amazing host and great cook. The hut was in a great & remote location surrounded by days of hikes. If you drive from Telluride tho, make sure you have a true 4x4 with actual clearance. We took the drive with a semi 4wd rental car and it was probably the most freighting experience of our lives ha. Poor planing on our side hut hopefully a lesson learnt for others. And the cabin in particular that is built upon Chief Ouray's hunting adobe. We absolutely loved the cabin. It was private and primative, but had everything we needed. And to learn that it was built in 1902 was even better. It does have a comfy bedroom, it is not a studio. And a kitchenette with a fridge and a stove, a microwave and mostly fully stocked. A decent shower and lots of heaters with a wood burning stove. We would stay here again in a second. It was neat waking up to the wild turkeys and driving up and down the hill in the ice. The jeep made it really easy. We also booked the sunroom and while I do love staying in the lodge, because of its convenience, we much prefer the cabin. The sun room is almost all windows, and it is literally built on top of the vapor cave with the rock coming through one wall. It's very cozy too, and has a king bed. That part is great! There is no kitchenette in here though, but the front desk clerk was kind enough to help us with some items we needed to make some sandwiches. I'll tell you the most difficult part is this: The entitlement of folks who have no concept of respect. Whether it be berating the staff or talking loudly and obnoxiously while soaking. If someone doesn't know hot springs etiquette, they should learn. It's a place of retreat, rest and relaxation. It's also a sacred native site. It deserves respect. Don't come here if you're looking to be loud and obnoxious. You don't know how many times I watched people walk away from soaking, because of idle drunk gossipy talk... The times where we have been mostly alone, are just epic and I'm truly grateful for that. It has been one of the best weeks just becoming one with nature and the earth, honoring the sacred. A giant scam. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!…read more In short, I had a reservation. Mudslides closed the roads to Ouray just prior to my arrival. I confirmed the closed roads with the Colorado Department of Transportation. The hotel still refused to refund my money despite being unable to get there. I offered to change my reservations to 2-3 weeks later since I would return to Colorado. The hotel refused to refund my money. The hotel never provided a name of anyone to discuss. I only could converse via email to a generic hotel email. I am still fighting to get back my $1,000. Hotel doesn't care as long as they have my money. Pathetic. They refused to discuss over phone. Then they sent a generic email asking how my stay was. Insult to injury. DO NOT EVER BOOK THIS HOTEL.
