We stayed here for a few days while we were snowboarding at Silverton. The location is so close and you're right in the middle of main street to walk to restaurants, bars etc. The lovely couple that greeted us were so nice and friendly, they live in one of the rooms by the reception. I will say this building is old, noise travels, it's definitely got it's creaks and lots of character. The beds were comfortable, everything was clean, the showers take a minute to get hot but are very toasty. The amenities are lacking in the fact that they don't have breakfast and no lobby area etc. but there's coffee and tea. If you're looking for a cozy place to stay where you aren't spending too much time at the hotel, this place is perfect. read more

I can't recommend Teller House highly enough. My friend and I stayed in mid Feb 2024. The hotel itself is beautiful. After a recent rehab, the rooms and public area combine vintage charm with cleanliness and an absence of the run-down feel you sometimes get at vintage hotels. The rooms are beautifully decorated and comfortable. In addition, they were very accommodating, helpful and nice to us. I've stayed in Silverton a couple of times, looked at all the places online, and it's hard to imagine anyplace beating Teller. read more

What a beautiful hotel. What a lovely stay we had. Our room was #6 and the view of the mountain was magnificent. The floor creaked and I love that. The windows are old and I cracked it on the block for the mountain air. The care takers are lovely. Mouse (call sign) is who I spoke to each day as his wife was out. Such great stories. This was such a warm homey place. The history of the building is wonderful. There is even art on the wall that was discovered under wall paper and framed over to look like a picture. The Dale Tiffany Lamps and antique décor is so charming. It feels like the movie "Somewhere in time". The bed was comfy as well as the chairs in our room. There is even a *snore set of single use plugs* and a night eye mask if needed. A lovely community kitchenette with coffee, tea a refrigerator and microwave. This is a must stay in Silverton. Choose the room that suits your mood...honeymoon, family, friends trip....no matter the reason you will enjoy! read more

This hotel is very quaint and clean, however- BEWARE- under new management and they do not offer any customer service. If you are unaware that your room doesn't have a bathroom, they will not upgrade you. They don't have hangers, breakfast, clock, tv, radio, microwave, fridge- most of which is advertised to be in room. There is no concierge, front desk service, or restaurant. They advertise free parking- which is actually for anyone. Stay at your own risk. The owner is not on site and her young daughter is left in charge. She has no inkling how to run a hotel and does not seem to care about customer service which in this venue should be prized. The owner is very rude and not accommodating. This is too bad because this could have been a very pleasurable experience. Just be aware. read more

Stayed here for a night. It was a great location in the town and gives a cute period feel. Check in process was contact free but did feel a little weird. The room itself was very clean, no tv (but that's fine), made sure I got a room with a private bathroom. Some of the things in the bathroom felt like they could've upgraded (toilet, shower curtain). Couldn't hear my neighbors which is nice especially if you're a light sleeper. It was nice that there was a digital clock that had outlets and USB ports a nice touch for the forgetful traveler without a wall outlet plug. Water is a available in the common room but no mini fridge as a heads up if you wanted to keep some cold beverages in your room. If I was ever in silverton again, I would stay here again. read more

Stayed here during Labor Day week and definitely enjoyed our stay! Such a charming little place in the heart of Silverton. We really liked that it was within walking distance from everything, including our favorite place, Montanya. The free wifi was a plus since it's hard to get cell reception. Our room was perfect for the two of us, and had no problems during check in or check out. I did need a refrigerator to keep my diabetic insulin cold and they kindly supplied us with one. Super comfy bed and clean room over all with a Victorian flare. Completely different and unique to anywhere I have ever stayed before. The only 2 setbacks: the restaurant below can get a little noisy if you are trying to rest or get an early night sleep. Glad that we brought ear plugs. The room also did get a little hot at night, even with the window cracked. There was a little fan in the room that we could have used, but we needed the outlet to charge our phones. read more

I stayed here three nights in September and enjoyed two breakfasts and a dinner here. I recommend both the hotel and the restaurant. HOTEL: First night in a room with shared bath and remaining nights in a room with private bath. I found the rooms and baths very clean and comfortable. The decor is tastefully victorian, none of that overly frilly look. The staff was friendly and helpful and the hotel is conveniently located in the center of town. Though I was a little concerned about whether the shared bath would be busy when I needed to take a shower, I had no problems. The women's shared bath is nicely appointed with the toilet, shower and sink all in separate areas to allow more flexibility with it's use. Coffee and tea is available most mornings. Free WIFI. RESTAURANT: Great hearty, breakfasts. I had a pick your ingredients omlette one morning and another egg dish the second. Really fresh and tasty. Only recommendation would be to offer some lighter choices such as oatmeal. Had dinner one night too. Enjoyed this also. Tried two other restaurants for breakfast and dinner during my stay--would recommend this restaurant over the others I sampled. read more

In my wilder days I had the good fortune of exploring the old mining towns of Colorado. Silverton was one of my favorites because it was so isolated from the rest of the world. I had to arrive before sunset or risk having the road into town closed down by a snowstorm. It was one of those places that explained The Eagles song, Hotel California. I could check out, but I might never leave. My favorite hang out was the Teller House Hotel. My room was always classically western, with a window overlooking Greene Street. Although not a 4 Poster Bed kind of guy, I sort of enjoyed the faded elegance of the creaky monster for a few nights. Often, I was the only guest when there in November or April, and the owners gave me the key to the front door as well as my room, because they did not bother to leave anyone at the front desk when they believed no one was expected. Because I was alone, I sometimes ate breakfast with the staff and was able to share stories with them. The bathroom was down the hall, but no biggie as the entire hotel was mine. The geologist in me loved the old railway depot near the mines where silver ore was load for processing either in town or down the line in Durango. A few hours hunting around the mine tailings always turned up enough silver to pay for a chunk of my travels. It still had some currency in the local saloons, where a small bag of silver dust could purchase a couple of drinks with dinner. Being able to do that was what my travel there was all about. If you're looking for a classic slice of Victorian mining town, Teller House is your place. The rooms are all nicely redone in period, and the place has a very cool, classic, Victorian feel to it. There are some distinct disadvantages, though - not all the rooms have private bathrooms. For those that don't, there are shared bathrooms down the hall that may or may not have enough hot water for your shower at the end of the day. The beds aren't the most comfortable you've ever slept in either. Also, the continental breakfast advertised is truly miniscule - you're much better off going across the street to one of the coffee houses. But it's pretty cheap, and if period charm is your thing, you'll like it a lot. And honestly, it's a pretty cool place. read more

Teller House Restaurant - downstairs from the B&B. I have now eaten there 4 or 5 times (they just opened Feb 2011). Machaca for breakfast is out of this world! Love the enchiladas, fajitas and chimichangas too. Great homemade salsa - Yummy! The bartender is super friendly and GOOD! I live in Silverton and this is now my favorite place to eat. Chef Rudy really cares about making truly good food - and it comes through on the plate and in your mouth. Delicious!! I live in Silverton and haven't stayed at the B&B, but have seen the rooms several times. They are really nice, and you can't get a better location in Silverton. About half the rooms have private baths and the other rooms are Euro style shared - nice bathrooms and not far from the rooms. One of the best things about the B&B is that there isn't a hallway - its an open lobby area where all the rooms open to - perfect for a wedding party, or other groups of family/friends who want to be together read more

Had a good stay here. Nice historic hotel with period decor. Clean, and I loved the bath soap and shampoo/lotion bottles (no conditioner). Check in/out was an independent thing, as the owner was at the restaurant when we arrived. I liked the little things, like the keurig and cold water being available at all times. Great having a fan in the room for those of us who get hot. Wish there had been breakfast, even if it was just a muffin or bagel. Pop over to the restaurant for an amazing dessert! Coconut Cream Pie and carrot cake were wonderful! read more

Great old hotel in the spirit of Silverton. It is so authentic to an old hotel that the bathroom is down the hail. The hotel is clean and quiet. The person running the hotel lives there and is helpful with everything. Reasonable. Don't recommend the pickle barrel restaurant next door. read more

The building and rooms are so unique and cool and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. My only problem was the price. I could stay in a much nicer hotel with breakfast and my own bathroom for less than what this place charges. If you're ok with paying for the experience rather than the amenities I would recommend it, otherwise just stay in Durango. read more

Love the Victorian charm and he ease of checking yourself in with your name taped to the door and the keys on the table. Well located within town. Great bed. Only two drawbacks: 1) room was too warm (July) even with the small fan and window partially open and 2) light from the hallway coming through the transom window above the door all night. Suggest eye blinders and ear plugs for the fan noise. Oh, one more thing, the shower sometimes gives you a blast of cold water even though not out if hot water. read more
