We visited here for breakfast on a Sunday morning. We ordered the Greek salad, tomato ricotta quiche, and a waffle. The quiche was on their brunch menu that comes with either a mimosa or sangria. The salad was good. I asked for the home fries that come with the quiche to be extra crispy...they crisp the outside but not the inside. The quiche itself was ok, not bad but nothing to make me want it again. The waffle was good however they serve it with fake syrup...first ingredient is corn syrup and, second ingredient is high fructose corn syrup. I originally ordered the mimosa, acidity was to high so I switched it to the sangria, it was horrible. I don't recommend this place. read more

The Colonial Diner has been here since I can remember, it has recently went over a change in owners and they did some nice renovations, as well as a newer menu! This was always such a great place to grab breakfast or to stop in late for a bite to eat on the weekend! After moving, the Colonial Diner is always such a great place to stop by and grab some delicious breakfast! This visit we ordered the 2 eggs combo with home fries and toast and the bacon, egg and cheese croissant and we substituted fries for home fries. The 2 egg breakfast was perfect! The eggs were cooked exactly how we wanted them! The home fries had a perfect crisp crust and were delicious! The sandwich had a perfect flavor combination of all of the ingredients together. I've been going to the Colonial Diner since the mid-1990s. They had a decline for several years, but I was pleased to see they rebooted, adding in a full vegan menu of diner classics! It's diner so breakfast is king, I go on the weekends to get the vegan breakfast burger, a smashed impossible patty with egg and cheese, a healthy helping of hash browns, and a mimosa to boot. Other favorites include the vegan chicken sandwich and the poutine. On the holidays they have an amazing vegan pot pie, made from scratch that will convince even the most skeptical carnivore. I had a taste for French toast this past week, and didn't feel like going far to get it. I've eaten from Colonial before; they're close, and I know the food is good. I saw this new dish( Hot Cinnamon Apple Crumb Pancakes),even though it wasn't French toast, I decided to give it a try. Well, I am so glad I did! First, I guess a mistake was made, or the Lord intervened. When I got home and opened up my breakfast ,it was French toast just like I wanted. Let me tell you, this was one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. This used to be my favorite restaurant. The food is really good. But that all changed Sunday. Oddly we were in Cherry hill and my friends wanted to go to silver diner. But I said no - colonial is better. But that was a bad idea and now I'm skeptical to return. The hostess refused to let us sit in the right side and forced us to sit on the main wide area but we didn't want to and said no. And she didn't care and was rude and ushered us to the side she wanted anyway. Why didn't listen or ask if we wanted to wait or sit at the counter? Why was she so rude and dismissive? Her demeanor was unfriendly, rude, asks like we were annoying her. Dyed red hair and thicker. We don't want to come back and that's unfortunate. Colonial Diner used to be our spot after clubbing at Ron Jaworski's EAGLE's NEST "back in the day!" I hadn't been here in a good 20 years, but wanted breakfast after hitting the Nissan dealership for service. What an overhaul! It's much bigger and classier looking now - boasting black and white décor throughout. My pumpkin pancakes were moist and absolutely delicious - more pumpkin flavor than most others I've eaten. We stopped by here on our way up to New England due to their vegan menu. My partner had been here before on a prior trip through NJ and raved about the food. We're vegetarian but having so many vegan options are always a delight. They have a full menu with plenty of options for breakfast, lunch/dinner, sides, and desserts. You can also buy their stuff wholesale. Unless you're looking for a vegan breakfast, I recommend doing their entree special where you get a soup and dessert with your meal. On this trip my partner got the vegan breakfast skillet and I got the cheesesteak hoagie. The portions are HUGE (for both vegan and non-vegan dishes) so come hungry. The skillet has house-smoked seitan to sub in as chorizo; he said it was well-balanced and tasted like eggs! My hoagie was so good and tasted just like the real thing. My one quibble was that the roll was a bit soggy on the bottom but overall it was great. Despite it being a busy Saturday afternoon they seated us quickly. The service was also fantastic. We had Flo, who was so sweet and brought us some vegan ranch to try. She raved about it and said the staff loves it too; we agree, it's better than the real thing. read more

Since I live about a half hour away I haven't been here in a very long time. Three of us went back today and it was wonderful! First, it's been remodeled and it was very comfortable in our booth. Our server, Nick, was so helpful and solicitous. One of us was an elderly friend who was a little difficult and Nick was great with her, even when she questioned his tattoos:). She had a French onion burger that was perfect, she said. And it looked perfect. My husband and I got Greek salads with chicken. It was a lunch special that included soup. Omg, soo good. The salads were huge and packed with chicken and vegetables and tzatziki and grape leaves and olives. My lobster bisque was delicious as was the vegan cabbage soup. Our server, Carolyn, was not only super efficient, but funny too. The food was superlative, and came out super fast. The chicken pot pie that I ordered rivaled the best that I have ever had. The pot pie had large chunks of white meat chicken, with a very flavorful gravy, and perfectly cooked veggies, It even had chickens imprinted on the crust lol. The pot pie came with a choice of soup and I chose fisherman's chowder, which was a little on the salty side but was very tasty. Onion rings were so good, you could tell that they were freshly made. MDW's BLT was very good with the crispy bacon perfectly cooked. No 1 son's Egg's Benedict was cooked perfectly and tasted great. If your are looking for a diner that serves a great assortment of vegan food the CD is a dream come true, it has it's own vegan menu, in fact the lunch special today was a vegan pot pie. What do you do when you find a new gem of a vegan restaurant? You tell everyone you can!!!! I learned about the diner just a few days ago and tonight we had a chance to go there for dinner. Flipping the two-sided menu over I was floored to see the second side is 100% vegan! We started with the seitan "wings" served with hot sauce and vegan ranch. Three tacos made with their 3 bean chili was served up with rice and beans. The chick'n cheesesteak sandwich was a blast from the past and soooooo delicious! Entrees come with a cup of soup, which was a delicious Lima bean soup and a dessert. We chose the vanilla ice cream and brownie for our choices. My wife and I went to have a meal tonight at the colonial. I ordered "homemade corn beef hash" crispy home fries and two sunny eggs $14. OK I get that it's tough everywhere. The corn beef hash was not edible besides being burnt. I'm not sure I would've fed it to my dog Home fries were these little skinny things that apparently came out of a frozen bag and onto the grill just enough to warm them up. They tasted as much like a potato as when you eat a frozen french fry. No onions either. On the good side side eggs were fine. And then we were overcharged for two different items. I absolutely love dining here at the Colonial! I usually go for breakfast; my go-to's being a stack of chocolate chip pancakes and a western omelette with American cheese. The pancakes come with chocolate chips spread all over the them so when you dig in, the chocolate spreads evenly! Very tasty! The omelette comes with a side of crispy shredded hash browns and is a large portion. I seem to always get a lovely waitress who seems friendly and very enthusiastic. Next to the window and we could watch the cars ride by. The restaurant was very clean and we didn't wait long to be seated. Three tips if you have a big party make sure you have cash they won't split the check. They charge more or there is a "discount" if you use cash. Your whole party has to be present to be seated. There are signs posted all in the front of the restaurant with an atm by the door. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. The food was typical diner food. My kid didn't enjoy her food. I had just flown in to see my family in Jersey and my cousin and I were both ready to have a late breakfast. She lives nearby and recommended that we go there. I'm glad that she did! She got hers with sausage, fries And white toast and I had mine with bacon, Home fries, and a toasted bagel. They were both great, we took our time and were able to enjoy our food. The only thing I would say is that the service may have been a bit slow and sometimes we had to sit and try to get our waitresses attention but I also understand that we we're getting closer to lunchtime and we're just in a time where people don't have enough employees.
