Our dryer broke in the middle of the pandemic (it was 20 years old). Wanted to use a local non-big box store. We have a difficult stairway to get the dryer up. Called Colonial and explained we wanted a basic dryer. Frank was a big help but explained many of the factories where not shipping but found a nice LG unit he had in stock. I declined to accept the washer and dryer I ordered from Home Depot because when the installers arrived they were incredibly rude and clearly did not want to go to the trouble of doing their job. I won't go into further detail about their horrendous behavior, but suffice it to say the apology received from Home Depot was far from adequate. A friend had told me about Colonial Appliances, and when I called them and spoke to Mike, he could not have been more helpful. He had the same units in stock for the same price and went on to explain the rebates available and the costs involved for installation. I told him of my experience with the delivery people from Home Depot, and he assured me that the delivery people/installers they use have been working with them for years and vouched for their professionalism and expertise. The units were delivered as promised and installed with ease. In fact, the installers said this was the easiest installation they'd had all day and could not understand why the Home Depot folks had been so difficult. Mike even went to the trouble of filling out and mailing me all the rebate documents required, and had stapled copies of the invoice to each rebate document. All I had to do was fill in the serial numbers and where I wanted my rebates sent to - could not have been simpler! I cannot say enough positive things about Colonial Appliance, Mike and the very professional and knowledgeable installers. I highly recommend them. read more

I ordered a low-profile microwave from Colonial and it was a great experience from start to finish. I found the item I wanted on line and went to the store to speak to a rep because the cabinet it hang from is very shallow. The man looked at the dimensions of my cabinet and the dimensions of the microwave and said it wouldn't be a problem. A few weeks later when the microwave came in, Mel called me to schedule an appointment. It was installed perfectly roughly 2 hours after he called me! The two installers were polite, thorough, respectful of the kitchen andhung protective blankets. After installation was done, Mel gave me a run down of the microwave and a couple of tips on proper usage. 5 stars - I couldn't be happy. I am especially happy that I didn't have to go to Home Depot or Lowes. read more

I don't write many 5-star reviews because not too many places deserve it. Purchased a Bosch dishwasher in 2017 and a Frigidaire washing machine in 2018 and couldn't be happier. In the case of the washing machine, Colonial met and beat a rival price from Karl's, including hoses, delivery, installation and removal of the old unit. Billy and Carol at the store and Rob in the field were all the best. Plus, you get to support a local business and get the exact same product, service and price as HD, LOW, etc. In fact, better service and more convenient. read more

I bought a microwave here in November. They sold me a microwave that did not meet any of my specifications (smaller than what I asked for, less features than what I asked for and most importantly half the fan speed of what I asked for) and delivered a week later. Obviously I called to complain and continued to call until the problem was resolved. I took a day off work so the appliance repairman could justify the microwave did not meet my needs. I spent two days waiting on delivery for the microwaves. In February I finally got the microwave I asked for in November. It should not be this much work to get a new appliance. read more

I just bought a speed queen 5000 series washer /dryer at considerable $$$$ as a gift for my son who just bought a home. The second time he used the dryer the dryer didn't work. It was the door switch. How did it even leave quality control??? When he called they referred him to the appliance repair people which will not be able to get there for over a week. I own the top of the line pair and loved it so I bought this pair that was much more expensive than most other brands, Speed queen prides itself on their product! What a joke ! The customer service was below par with Colonial on their delivery also. Also the customer service at Alliance laundry owners of Speed Queen was also a waste! Had service call for gas leak in oven, had service tech come out, checked oven stated no gas leak. Waited 4 hours for PSE&G only to be told still have a leak, called them they stated nothing they could do, out $100 total RIP OFF!!!!!!!! I've been ordering appliances from Colonial for years (my family has been in New Providence since 1976 and also has been loyal customers) and although their prices have been great, their customer service and delivery have gone down the toilet. If you order from them, nail down a delivery date in writing - don't trust what they say over the phone - and follow up at least a few days ahead of time. Nothing more frustrating than rearranging your day to be home for a delivery that doesn't show up. This has happened to me twice with them. Nice people (very apologetic since error was on their end) but now I have 2 wasted days and still no refrigerator. I'll be shopping Karl's appliances in Madison going forward. read more

Colonial was recommended to me by a few different people who have been pleased for many years. My experience with Colonial was sub-par. My appliance order was placed on back order and I was never notified. After waiting longer than I should have, approximately 2-3 weeks, I called Colonial to ask why I had to contact THEM and haven't been updated about the back order. The salesperson responded that there was "no update" because it was on back order. I replied to him, "THAT should have been the update!" He then elaborated that the manufacturer had no ETA on when the item would be available for delivery. I could have been waiting forever and never would have known. I cancelled my order and bought the exact same item at another appliance dealer for $10 cheaper and it arrived in two days. read more

I needed a new dishwasher quickly. I had a poor experience with Home Depot on a previous appliance order, so decided to go with a local store. I worked with Billy at the store and was able to get an in stock dishwasher ordered and installed in less than two weeks, during the pandemic and arriving before Thanksgiving. We bought a Maytag steam tumble dryer from Colonial Appliance less than a month ago. It has been nothing but trouble and failed several times by over heating. Initially Colonial were helpful with replacing parts but now it keeps failing they have been very unresponsive. They promised us a 2 year service agreement because of the trouble but have not delivered on their promise. Very disappointed with their service. I bought a washer which malfunctioned on the first cycle on the first day I had it. It continues to malfunction. It stops mid cycle and generates error codes. I am well within my right to expect that an appliance sold as "new" should not need repair. Colonial refuses to replace it and says my only choice is to have it repaired. I suspect they are buying seconds and selling them as new. Go instead, to a large, reputable store such as Home Depot or Costco that will accept a return of a defective appliance. read more

They offered free delivery and beat the price of their competitor. I needed the microwave installed and they gave me the number of a person they use. My wife and I purchased a LG washer and dryer in August. The sales process and delivery work perfectly as all staff were extremely courteous and professional. After using the washer, it did not clean the clothes very well. This top load washer did not even cover the clothes with water and upon finishing some were still not even wet. We complained to Colonial and they sent out one of their professional servicemen. He investigated and suggested the washer was working as designed, but understood they some of these new washers are designed to use a limited amount of water for energy efficiency reasons. He suggested we call LG which we did. They admitted there had been numerous complaints and the issue had been handed over to their engineering department with no resolution thus far. We demanded LG either fix the problem or take the washer back. They refused. They gave us one of their authorized servicemen to call which we did several times. No one answered nor did they return our calls. We went back to Colonial and shared the story with Carl who understood. He went to work to get LG to take the washer and dryer back so we could get a replacement. It took time working with LG, but Carl was successful in the end thanks to his persistence and desire to make us a satisfied customer. We now have a new Maytag washer and dryer that work perfectly. Thank you Carl as we highly recommend you and your staff to anyone wishing to purchase products from your store. No need to go to a big box store. The one star deduction was because I'd would have liked a little more notice on the install scheduling- two calls to installer and store before call back. My parents have been going there for nearly 30 + years. When it came time to do our Kitchen, I knew this place would be my 1st choice to start. They have a very knowledgeable sales staff, the staff is very friendly and professional. We personally worked with Billy, and his product knowledge and warm personality really gave both my wife and I peace of mind. We purchased a 36" Thermador range and 48" built-in frig amongst other kitchen and laundry appliances. My wife had for months been window shopping online and at the big box stores. But as I told her, once we were serious only 1 place to start at, and we never went elsewhere. Billy was tentative with sales dates, for when letting us know to take advantage of the best pricing, they offer cash or check discounts, and they do not give you the run around regarding pricing. I mean we can all search for pricing even while in store on our own phones.
