I'm not even sure how I found The Fuzzy Goat, a Facebook ad maybe, but I'm so glad that I did. They have a beautiful selection of yarn, especially featuring indie dyers, and a great selection of accessories and bags. Every time I look at their website, I find something else that I "need"! My favorite item is the "Box of Goats". It is a box of 31 surprises, one item to open for each day in December. It includes little skeins of yarn and a pattern to work on. Last year, I had so much fun opening up each gift. Besides the yarn, there were cute accessories, sweet treats, and a yummy recipe. And it showcased local shops in the area, which I thought was pretty cool. They also have a great Facebook page that highlights their store and a Facebook group where knitters and crocheters can chat about their different Fuzzy Goat projects. Their social media is on point and really gives you an idea of what it's like to be there in the shop! Check out The Fuzzy Goat, you won't be disappointed. I got around to eating it one day before the printed best by date. I opened it and saw it was very runny so I double checked the date and decided to try it anyways. I'm not familiar with cream top yogurt. I did get swayed a bit by the cute cow packaging and bright colors, but the flavor ultimately made me try it. When I tried the yogurt I stirred it a little to mix in the bit of liquid at the top. It was quite runny and when I tasted it, sour! Definitely not edible in my opinion. Funny thing is it smelled fine and quite good actually. You could definitely smell the blueberry and cardamom. I couldn't taste them though. I emailed the company inquiring about how their yogurt should taste and what the texture should be like. I addressed the sour taste and runny texture. Their response was, "When the yogurt is stirred or shaken vigorously it will always turn into a smoothie texture. When we make it, the yogurt has a custard texture but that is easily disrupted due to the lack of stabilizers and gums in the product. Did the lid has cream stuck to the top?" I didn't shake it and I had stirred it gently to mix it. I did email back that I think the lid had a little bit of cream stuck to the top. I know there wasn't anything special worth noting because I hadn't even known it was cream top yogurt when opening it. I didn't get a response after that. I think they were satisfied that there was some semblance of cream on the lid. Who cares if it tasted sour and disgusting. The company does have a good mission statement and business practices from what I read on their website, but I didn't know that going into it. Still doesn't make me want to try another one of their yogurts.

The difference is that during the production of cream top yogurt, the non-homogenized milk has a layer of cream that floats to the top, making it a rich and creamy yogurt known for its luxuriousness and indulgence, as it is much higher in fat content than the trend towards low and non-fat yogurt. The couple who started the company is Kyle and Janelle Wehner; they call themselves the farm boy and the kiwi, because Mrs. Wehner is from New Zealand (how cute is that??). Now, they offer flavors in Vanilla Agave, Regular, Honey and Pear, Maple Ginger, and the Strawberry Pomegranate. I liked them all, but the Regular and Vanilla Agave tasted a bit similar for me. Honey and pear was very mild, I had to find the flavors (still a great flavor though). Strawberry pomegranate was good in a tart way, though a suggestion is to add strawberry chunks to make it even more delicious. The standout for me was the Maple Ginger! I never thought this combination would taste good, but it is almost addicting! The cows are fed grass, so I can definitely taste the difference as well (this is a good thing, as yogurt usually comes from grain-fed cows....that's like feeding cows on a diet of candy. It's not right/sustainable, and is also the reason why grain/corn prices are low for a reason.) My biggest qualm is that the yogurt's consistency isn't its standout point, as the curds are in chunks and there is liquid amidst it all. It's not homogenized milk used, so I can't really blame them. I can definitely see a problem with customers used to Yoplait, though. But the ultimate reason why I give them this rating is for their treatment of their cows. New Zealand is famous for its open, green pastures and rotational farming techniques (you wonder why lamb is best from New Zealand? Yeah. That's it.) as opposed to the American horror stories, and this couple brought that technique to America. They do their best with the best ingredients they can procure as they use organic ingredients, sugar alternatives (agave sweetners), and call calves "our babies". My biggest regret is not being able to tell Peter Singer and Jim Mason of The Ethics of What We Eat: Why Our Food Choices Matter before they published their book. How happy they would be if they were able to come and see this farm!

They had me with the spooky, Halloween displays just inside the front door! What I didn't expect was the grand room to have 2 floors! Little themed cubbies lined the walls with toy adventures! Space, jungle, sealife, arts, music! Something for every kid and any age! My niece found several things to get with her money and we were hunting treasures for the grandkids! Great fun, great finds!
