Service date: Summer, 2013
I own a condo in West Campus, Austin and the HOA manager recommended Colley Company to take a look at a problem with the AC in the summer of 2013. The installer Rickey came out and resolved the issue quickly, replacing a contact plate. Rickey inspected the system and ran a few tests to determine exactly what was wrong. Just before we bought the unit, another AC company had "resolved" the same issue 10 months earlier, also supposedly replacing the contact plate.
Rickey was familiar with the building as he had serviced many units here over the years and knew exactly what to do to get on the roof where the Condenser was. After getting it restarted, Rickey tested the system and we were back up and running.
We both noted that the AC equipment was getting old and we discussed replacement options for the future. Rickey said you never know, it could go out in a month or last for years. The bill was reasonable and matched the estimate range I was given when I scheduled the visit. I decided if this system ever gave me trouble in the future, I knew I was going to trust Colley Co to make the repairs.

A few weeks ago, the AC unit in our Condo in West Campus, Austin was no longer cooling the rooms. We opened the closet door to look at the inside part of the unit (the air handler) and found the air filter had ice on it. I called Colley & Co and asked what to do. I talked to Alan Colley, the owner of the company. It was his day off, but he still took the time to discuss my problem. Alan said the ice buildup could be caused by a few different things ranging from a dirty air filter to a Freon leak. The inside unit is at least 20 years old and had rust and corrosion on the evaporator grid. Their AC tech's were busy this afternoon so they suggested we turn the system off and let it thaw out completely, indicating the ice was likely much thicker than what we could see. Fortunately, the weather had cooled a bit in Austin so this was not unbearable. We let it thaw out overnight.
Rickey was once again (he worked on my system in 2013) the AC tech to visit us and he looked the system over and called me to update on the issue. He used a Freon leak detector to isolate the leak to the unit in the AC closet. The condenser unit on the roof was not leaking. He said he could charge it up with Freon and it might go for a while before it leaked out or else I was looking at a replacement. Either way, a replacement was inevitable. I decided replacing the old equipment now made more sense and asked to have Alan call me to discuss pricing. We decided on replacing the air handler and furnace inside the closet. Rickey was the installer and he did a superb job removing the old unit and installing the new one. Everything works great now! I couldn't be happier with the service I received by Rickey and the discussions over my repair options I had with Alan.
I recommend Colley Company for your next AC issue. read more
