Not worth the hype. I will start with the pros: Nice ambience, great vibe for a date night, and in a great location. Our server was great. They're Buratta was delicious. Their lasagna is something special ( could use more sauce) Now on to the cons : Calamari was very chewy, not fresh at all. We arrived at 6:45pm our food arrived at 7:55. Appetizer arrived at 7:40. They're pink sangria was a joke. I asked for a margarita with casamigos tequila , and they charged me $22 dollars!! And they gave me a small amount. We went to the movies next door, got a casamigos margarita for $15 bucks, and it was good. Chicken parm was dry, over cooked chicken with dry spaghetti that did not taste "homemade" . We spent almost $200 without dessert. They're better places in Triangle with authentic Italian food for wayyyy less. Back to Daniel's in Apex! read more

Went with a bunch of people and was very good. Unfortunately the focaccia is nothing special as we got that to start but my cocktail was great (their version of the old fashioned). Got the bucatini and was delicious. Pasta was fresh and sauce had great flavor with a little spice. The shrimp were fantastic and cooked perfectly. Wife got the lasagna and enjoyed it a lot. Everyone loved their entrees which consisted of chicken parm and the agnolotti. Service was ok. Felt rushed in the beginning as our appetizers haven't even arrived and our entree orders were taken and then slow to take the check. Huge negative was we had a kids spaghetti with Parmesan cheese and it was $14!!! Are you kidding me? For a kids size pasta? Lots of good. Entrees were a tad pricey but quality was definitely there and there's a bunch of other dishes I want to try but the nickel and dimeing for things like bread and kids pasta was a turnoff. We sat outside after finally getting a table at 8:30 due to an hour and a half wait- however, it was a Friday, so we didn't mind waiting- and our server Elizabeth was one of the best servers I've ever had. She was so friendly and made great small talk with us while making us feel cared for and welcome. The food was also delicious. The table ordered Antipasta (appetizers)- Foccacia & Crispy Clam Strips. I was told both were absolutely delicious. We all ordered pizzas- 3 of us got Margherita, 1 Pesto & 1 with Prosciutto, Balsamic Drizzle & Arugula. We all loved them but decided that the Margherita was the best. I have a gluten allergy & they were very accommodating. They had gluten free pasta options & a gluten free crust. I got Margherita pizza on a gluten free crust and it was so fluffy and doughy. I loved it! One of the best gluten free crusts I've had. Overall great experience & would recommend. For a manufactured downtown, Fenton is cool I guess. I've been there twice now so I guess I don't hate it. This place seems to trade on the outsized Fenton demand. There's a disconnect between: how hard it was to get even a 9pm Saturday reservation, and the quality/value of the experience. I got a $27 bucatini with a meager amount of probably not fresh shrimp. If the pasta was house-made, it wasn't obvious. Tablemates thought their pizza was decent; another liked their lobster. Clam strips were a'ight I guess. Caesar salad was 4* (my buddy said it was underdressed but he's a little weird). Cocktails were well made, service was attentive enough. Just finished a pretty perfect meal at Colletta. Carly was our server and she was wonderful! Perfect level of being engaging and charismatic but not hovering. We loved her. The restaurant is also gorgeous inside. The food: everything was a 10. We started with a caesar salad and focaccia to share. While we were waiting, she brought us a pizza, letting us know they'd made an extra and she wanted us to try it since this was our first time at Colletta. It was the spicy sopressata pizza and it was perfect. We had already ordered the salad and focaccia to share, so we started second guessing ordering 2 entrees. The caesar salad was delicious; the focaccia was amazing with an olive oil and balsamic dip. After finishing both of those, we decided to order just a charcuterie board to share instead of entrees. Both cheeses were fantastic but the whipped chevre, with some of the homemade fig jam on a bite of the focaccia was my favorite. I had my birthday dinner last night at Colletta. Our server was Carly and she was absolutely amazing! She went above and beyond to make my birthday extra special. For appetizers, we ordered the burratta and the polpette, both were phenomenal. The burratta had strawberries and a delicious balsamic vinegar served over focaccia, perfect for summer. For entrees, I ordered the lasagna (15 layers!!) and my fiancé ordered the scallop risotto. Both were very large portions but delicious. We will have multiple meals of leftovers! For dessert, we got the baked Alaska and peach shortcake. While the peach shortcake was yummy and light, our go-to is always the baked Alaska. We had Colletta on our list since it opened. All of the reviews, videos and pictures really pointed to what we thought would be an elevated dining experience and superb food. The aesthetic of the location was beautiful and well done. The decor was minimal and a modern spin on traditional. Our server was pleasant if not a bit anxious for us to order quickly. On a side note, we had 11AM reservations, I arrived at 10:55 on a cold, wet and windy day and the doors were opened precisely at 11AM. Moving forward if I decide to go back it will be after opening because you'll be waiting outside in the cold. We ordered a cocktail called the Love Bird which was okay and not overly sweet despite it including pineapple juice. We started with some focaccia which was a little crunchy considering that I expected for it to be a little more tender and pillowy as focaccia tends to be. Our main entrees were the Lemon Ricotta pancakes and the Shrimp and Grits. They were aesthetically pleasing but my pancakes had very little lemon flavor, the large dollop of ricotta was unflavored and unnecessary as were the "herbs" which I believe were basil and the actual pancakes were actually a little dry. The fruit on top was supposed to be macerated but was served more like a garnish. The pancakes would have been better with a dollop of butter and maybe lemon curd or at least the macerated berries it was supposed to have. The shrimp and grits were okay but the grits could have used a little flavor. I'll give this place one more try for dinner and hopefully it will be better than my brunch experience. read more

We had a great Mother's Day experience here- party of 5. The mixed reviews worried me a little, but we were pleasantly surprised. I made a reservation a couple of months ago and was seated right away at 5:00 when they opened. I did notice a line forming outside of the restaurant right as they opened, and the hosts were letting people know they were fully booked for the night, which I appreciated. It showed me that they were focusing on their service/quality over quantity of parties for the holiday. Pros: All the food we ordered was good to great. Apps: Focaccia 3.5/5, Meatballs 5/5, Caesar 4/5 (we did ask for more dressing which helped greatly). Mains: Lobster Ravioli 4/5, Market Fish 5/5, Smoked Mozzarella Pizza (add soppressata) 4.5/5 the crust was a tad burnt but that's to be expected some with real woodfire pizza ovens, Chicken Parm 4/5, Pappardelle 4/5 Drinks: Limoncello Collins 3/5 (too sweet for my taste), The Pompelmo 5/5 this drink was strong and refreshing. Ambiance: We all loved the vibe and music that was playing. It was loud enough to enjoy, but still quiet enough to enjoy our conversation as well. Service: I forgot his name, but he was very helpful and accommodating. He also checked on us often. Cons: The wait from the apps to getting our main course was a little long. Our server let us know that everyone who was seated at 5:00 when they opened put their orders in at the same time. That was understandable. Overall, I'm not sure if the meh reviewees came on an off day, but this was a very pleasant experience and we will all surely be back to try more things. When I made the reservation they wrote back and asked if we were celebrating anything, if we had any food allergies, and a few more, but I won't spoil the surprise for others. The restaurant smelled absolutely amazing and everything on the menu sounded divine. After talking to our server Raphael, who was phenomenal the entire evening, we decided to let the Chef choose our courses for us. Important to note, I have a nut allergy and I'm pescatarian so if you're thinking where is the beef and pork, it wasn't there for us by choice. What a cute place and shopping plaza! Colletta is located in the new Fenton Cary center. My friend and I had a 5:45 reservation and were promptly seated. Our server, Jake D, came over quickly and introduced himself. He was energetic, friendly, and knowledgeable about the dinner and drink menu. We ordered the focaccia and calamari for apps. These came out promptly along with the drinks. Our water glasses were also filled and continually refilled once empty. Service was prompt, and the staff was hustling to serve everyone. The calamari was crispy & tender and came with marinara, lemon, and salsa verde aioli. The focaccia was delicious and came with an olive oil/balsamic vinegar dipping bowl. For our meals we ordered the Bucatini and my friend had a meal with pasta & seafood: mussels, clams, shrimp. I cannot recall the name. It's not on the online menu as of this writing. Everything was delicious, and our server, Jake D was a delight. All smiles, energetic & personable. We each orderd tiramisu to go as the meals were filling. Definitely check out Colletta. I really wanted to like it. But it was just an awkward, underwhelming experience. The service was uncomfortable to say the least. The server came multiple times (borderline badgering) to ask us our appetizer then dinner order. Our first appetizer, burrata, came out quickly. It was good but nothing special. Odd to place crispy, hot bread under a pile of dressed greens and a runny cheese. Our 2nd appetizer, focaccia, did not look recognizable as focaccia, it was overcooked and with little oil for dipping, it tasted dry. Tasted fine, just disappointed. It took roughly 45+ mins for entrees to come which we figured would happen. We ordered the tagliatelle and ravioli. The tagliatelle pasta was clearly not cooked in salted water, otherwise tasted okay. The ravioli's presentation was miserable (shown below). Many fell apart at the seam. The quantity received was small, as was the ravioli itself. As a slow eater, I was still finished before my partner due to the major difference in our dish sizes. Everything tasted just... fine. After dinner, I was looking forward to one redeeming item I had seen on their website's dessert menu - the Baked Alaska. We received the dessert menu and all that's on there is molten cake and gelato. Since it wasn't on the menu, we asked and we were told they were out of it. I understand running out of things. But why have it on your website menu , if it's not an available item? A simple solution of either updating your menu or noting on your website that items are based on availability. I'm aware Baked Alaska is not an easy or common dessert, but I often go to a restaurant in hopes to experience something new/different - this item was a draw for me. It was a letdown for them not to have it. Overall, it was just disappointing. I don't get why reservations are hard to get. The experience is not anything worth coming back again for. I'm sorry, but I just don't get the hype. We had reservations. We got there a little early and it wasn't too busy. This was around 6pm on a weekend and got seated right away. Our server was good. Nice and prompt. The focaccia was good. Crispy outside with a light, airy interior. I had the lasagna because I'd seen some good reviews. It came out looking pretty, but that's as good as it got. This $34 brick has absolutely zero flavor. None. The flavor of the marinara didn't go well with it either. It was like a flavorless heap of noodles with a skimpy bit of even more flavorless meat inside paired with a really acidic tomato sauce. My husbands pappardelle was the exact same story. Zero flavor in their bolognese sauce. Kids spaghetti . . . Also very subpar, no justification for the $14 price tag. I don't fault the server, it happens, but I ordered without meatballs, but it came with anyway, so technically we paid $18. I will say the meatballs were decent. The server was nice in wishing my MIL a happy birthday. We were too disappointed in the dinner to try any desserts. read more

Got the meatballs and spicy soppressata pizza to start -- both of which were the best things we had here. The soppressata had the perfect amount of spice. I'd been hawking Colletta for a month or two as I love Italian food. It definitely did not disappoint! For starters, the restaurant is gorgeous inside and out and dimly lit in just the right ways to make it a more intimate dining experience. I love the views directly into the kitchen with the huge pizza oven. The drinks were fantastic. I had a bit of a wait waiting for the rest of my party and started with the Concrete Shoes off my first recommendation. It was a hit! Once we all arrived, we ordered the Polpette and got some extra bread because it sopped up the sauce perfectly. While we waited for the food, I ordered the As Far Back and it had great smoky notes. I know it might be basic but I feel like you have to try the lasagna at every Italian restaurant at least once and theirs is great. Lots of layers and the ricotta on top had just a hint of lemon. The grilled squash was quite tasty as well. It's a busy restaurant so temper your expectations that everything is going to come out in 20 seconds. The venue was very crowded at first but the staff was efficient, professional and unflustered as they kept the appetizers and drinks flowing. There is a great outdoor space in front and on the side and the indoor space is sleek and open. A lovely jazz band was playing while were were there. When I heard that Colletta was scheduled to open on September 2, I rushed to make a reservation. The space inside isn't huge. The tables are very nicely spaced apart and it was refreshing to not be on top of another table. We ordered the calamari appetizer to start. I wasn't a huge fan of the calamari, it tasted a bit overfried but I did enjoy the banana peppers that added some nice complementing flavor. The complementary bread was delicious. It comes out pre sliced with a side of olive oil + balsamic vinaigrette. For entrees, my husband and I both ordered pasta. The restaurant makes fresh pasta every morning so we had to try them. We both loved our pastas! I ordered the agnolotti which was a smaller version of a ravioli and it was stuffed with a creamy filling of short rib and ricotta. The sauce was a little light but I really enjoyed the mushrooms in the sauce. My husband ordered the mafaldine which which was a loosely curled thick pasta in a spicy red sauce with lots of seafood. He absolutely loved this dish. We ordered the tiramisu for dessert and our amazing waiter ended up giving us an extra dessert because it took so long for the dessert to come out. I liked the tiramisu, it had some crunchy chocolate bits on top which was a nice added touch. They sprinkle the espresso dust at the table which was a nice touch. I wasn't a huge fan of the chocolate molten dessert. It had a strong orange taste (which was in the description) and I'm just not a huge fan of fruit flavored chocolate. Overall, we are so excited to have some nice restaurants open in Cary and can't wait to come back (hoping with some friends so we can try the pizza and entrees). The kitchen still has a few kinks to work out (there was a lengthy wait for our appetizer and then again for dessert) but that's not surprising given the restaurant opened a week ago. read more
