What a great pharmacy! Located in the college park area of Ventura, easy to find and plenty of parking here. When you walk in they have a huge gift shop with all kinds of nice stuff! Soaps, lotions, candles, purses/wallets and many other types of gifts, mugs, home decor etc... Walk straight back to the pharmacy and to the left there's a huge home medical equipment section. Switched over to this pharmacy because I was fed up with the service, wait time and mistakes at Walgreens. I work up the street at VCMC hospital and did ask about their hours of operation because my schedule varies and I don't live in Ventura. They said that they offered delivery in the case that I wasn't able to pick up the medications AT NO EXTRA CHARGE. They didn't even take a day to transfer our medications (it's always been hard to get a phone call through to Walgreens). When I finally had a new medication filled, they delivered it even after their pharmacy was closed. You'd think they'd stop deliveries after they closed but they didn't. Irene, one of their technicians, helped with our transfers and has made it an awesome experience overall. They're fast, friendly, they deliver, they have a drive-thru and are seriously just EFFICIENT. I wish I would've switched over much sooner. read more

My vet suggested College Pharmacy because they could compound pain medication for my very sick kitty. I was desperate to get something to make him feel better, fast. I got a text notification when my Rx was ready, but I was caught at another pharmacy waiting for my husbands prescription, as he was going out of town. I was cutting it close to travel the 20 miles to College by the time they closed. Google told me I would be a couple of minutes late, but I tried every driving trick I knew to safely beat the 5:30 close time. I got there at 5:31. The iron gates were closed at the front entrance and at the drive thru window. I was in despair. In fact, I stood there at the drive-thru window for a minute, just so disappointed. Then I heard a sound like keys jingling, coming from inside. I looked up, and there was a woman opening up the locks! She slid open the grate, and honestly, I just burst into tears. It's been rough out there in the world, and the this gesture of human kindness just touched me deeply. Laurie was her name, and she got me my kitty's medicine, took my payment, and I let her know how much it meant to me that she went the extra mile. This pharmacy is hit or miss. My previous pharmacy had a really quick turnaround, but College can take longer than a week to refill basic prescriptions. I've had to go several days without my medication because College didn't refill it in time. They are also just not on top of it. If they don't hear back from your doctor, they just forget about it. You need to be the one to call the pharmacy and urge them to keep calling. Also, forget about calling and speaking to someone. You'll most likely be put on hold and wait way too long. read more

This was consistently the rudest, worst experience I have ever had with a pharmacy, especially a compounding pharmacy. They rarely answer the phone. The guy who does is incredibly rude. They were 5 times higher in price than the next highest price, and 20 times higher than the lowest price. Silly me, I wanted to give a local pharmacy business. My doctor was shocked at the price I was given. His assistant told me she believed the price they offered me was double what was told to them. I have a rare condition that is best treated with compound formulation which is not covered by insurance. So it is a challenge anyway. The compound pharmacy I previously used was purchased by an investment firm and immediately raised their prices, so we went to find a local alternative. I rarely give bad reviews, I just say nothing, but they were so insulting, and the people behind the pharmacy wall watched as I was being berated by the guy behind the counter. They said and did nothing. So it appears this could be the be company culture. There a several compound pharmacies from here to Pasadena that will ship overnight for $15, and are much nicer and can work with you on price, so I would encourage people to shop around. read more

I have forever been a very happy customer here until recent. We love the convenience of the drive up window but mostly fell in love with and have become very attached to our beloved Umesh, the pharmacist. His care and concern and his knowledge of disease and medicine surpasses any pharmacist we have ever had. We have countless stories of his very personalized care for us as we have walked some very hard trials with illnesses. Since COVID, we have watched the struggle here to keep up the service they once offered seemingly do to be be understaffed and it appeared under supported although these were just our observations. But I was very surprised when I asked for him the other day as I always do, and they informed me he no longer worked there!! I asked and literally begged for them to give me information as to where he went, and to no avail. I accused them of withholding knowledge.I think it unethical of them to not have shared the information i know they have. If you are a customer here, you know what a speciality he is and was to making College Pharmacy what it is today, your friendly neighborhood pharmacy. I felt betrayed and honestly lost as he is a wealth of information on the conditions I suffer from and has worked well with my doctors. I cannot under good conscience do business here anymore and am losing a huge convenience as I can walk here from my home. I made a few calls and was able to track him down and couldn't be more relieved to have found him. College Pharmacy only seems to care about delivering my HIV medication to me as early as they can each month. It's a very expensive medication and they are making a good profit. But forget about my other prescription medications. They are just not interested in providing my sleeping med, thyroid med, or anything else in a timely manner. And it takes forever to get someone on the phone at College Pharmacy. They will send a text that a medication is ready to be picked up and the text is not accurate. I chose College Pharmacy over corporate giants like CVS or Rite Aid because I value local independently owned businesses, but I have returned to CVS because using College Pharmacy is a major headache. read more

How long does it take a licensed pharmacist to fill 1 bottle of ibuprofen, who ever is managing this place is doing good job of keeping their customers unhappy ! So if you want to wait an hour and half for your prescription this is the place to go college pharmacy you need to get people who actually know what they're doing , I was waiting an hour for my prescription while they continued to help other customers , the patient who has been sitting in your waiting room for an hour should be the one to get their prescriptions first . Was given a prescription by my Dr for compression socks and was given a list of local pharmacies. College pharmacy was listed and since it was close by I popped in. Empty shelves, overpriced OTC products covered in dust, a handful of RUDE employees and the stench of old dusty mold. I politely asked the employee in the pharmacy area if he could help me with finding the prescribed product, he immediately pointed across the room and said "go over there, she'll help you" and walked away. There wasn't any other customers in the store but he couldn't be bothered to help me. I proceed to walk into another room only to find it empty...No employee??? I go back to the counter and I asked if she had certain hours as she wasn't in there. Again he rudely rolls his eyes, lets out a loud sigh and gets on the phone and gestures for me to go back over there. A couple minutes later a woman walks in from the back and asks how she could help. I read off the prescription and before I finished what I was saying she interrupts and says she doesn't have the product and anyway I would have to pay for it up front, they don't bill insurance companies. I never asked to bill my insurance and I certainly didn't deserve the attitudes from both of these employees. To assume I couldn't pay for my prescription was insulting. Completely uncalled for. I couldn't believe what I had encountered. I REALLY try to super small local businesses but clearly this business doesn't care about their customers so I'll keep it moving. read more

I called to transfer one prescription. They said they'd get it done, but I didn't get a call back. I called a week later to check in the status, but they had no record of my previous call nor the personal info I'd given them. I gave them another chance. Again, a week later when I called, they again had no record of my info in their system. I was transferred to the pharmacist who somehow knew about me. Mysteries of life. Terrible and awful! The only thing this pharmacy excels at is incompetence! I called to see if they had received a prescription for me after 7 days. The tech said they had received it but it wasn't ready. That was on Wednesday. It would be ready on Friday. I asked when on Friday. She said after 3. I called on Friday at 4 and the pharmacy said it was ready. I sent my husband, from Oxnard to pick it up. Guess what? It's not ready! Something was "wrong with it". My husband asked if someone couldn't have called? No response from him. The tech just said he'd have to come back on MONDAY!! This is the 3rd time this kind of bungling ineptitude has raised it "UNPROFESSIONAL" ugly head at this pharmacy with me. I AM DONE!! read more

We have been coming to College Care Pharmacy for years. We have been through many employee changes. We have always been treated respectfully and expeditiously. Today, however, I did not recognize anyone. I was not greeted. I waited behind the "Please Wait Here" sign until acknowledged. When I was acknowledged, it was more of like, "What do you want?" I totally understand that they work diligently to fulfill their prescriptions. But, it is too much to ask for a cheerful, "Hi! We will be right with you!" ??? Customer service is dying. I've often purchased home medical products from this store. I was there today and was so disappointed to see that they were actually selling N95 masks for $4.00 apiece... with all of the stress and heartache and loss experienced by our fellow Venturans this past week in the wake of The Thomas fire, one would've thought the masks might have been offered at a greatly reduced price if not for free. Many communities like carpenteria and Santa Barbara have offered them for free. By the way, I was able to purchase two-packs of the same exact masks at Lowes for $6,00 today. I gave them three strikes, and I should have just quit after the first one. First, I called ahead to see if the pharmacy part of the store carried a certain item. I was told they did. I drove across town only to find out they did not. Second, I went in to purchase saline solution. I was told it required a prescription. This is absurd. I can purchase anywhere online. Today was the final strike. I went in and asked if they had any hot water bottles not made in China (I try to avoid toxic products and the last one I got reeked.) His response? "Everything's made in china." No, sir, everything is not made in China. And it didn't answer my question anyway. Finally he went to look where they normally keep them and they were all out. My experience has been so bad here, I would be afraid to have them compound anything for me. read more

I read the positive reviews of this business and the negative ones. I'm somewhere in between. They don't really listen to you and they seem to take forever in filling the compounded prescription. I can hardly ever get them on the phone as it's always busy. (Maybe they need a second line.) I have filled two presentations there and have not gotten an "it's ready" phone call. I've had to hound them both times. I pre-approved a charge up to $50 but they still felt they had to call me and ask a 2nd time. So I don't know. I need their services from time to time, but wish they were a bit more professional and organized with prescriptions. read more

During Christmas time, this is a smart place to come to mail your packages (they have a USPS center in the back of the store). The lines are much shorter. The rest of the store is your standard pharmacy with greeting cards, drug store items, small gifts (e.g., body lotion, soaps). It's not a bad selection but not particularly appealing either. It's the local pharmacy, so I hope that it sticks around. It looks like a place you'd find downtown rather than in a residential neighborhood. Are you kidding me... This is not a big operation like CVS or Walmart. This is a pharmacy with heart and compassion. You may have to wait sometimes for service, but that is the case at all pharmacies unless you timed it right. They know you by name and even in a difficult time they are supportive. They always, and I mean always are helpful. Since my husbands was diagnosed with cancer College Pharmacy has been helpful with home health items, homeopathic remedies and home delivery FOR FREE!!! The negative reviews are from people who either never had to make a profit or have a sense or royalty. As for the masks during the fire - the only place I found them "free" were at hand out centers. Did you try asking someone at CVS or Walmart about them? If you did... you got one of those looks like "a what," or oh we don't have any more we ran out! Were they free no! Are they locally owned - NO. Finally, I am so tired of the reviews based on a one time bad experience. Really folks - this is life. So disappointed in this place. My kitty has kidney issues and we give him an IV every night. We realized we were running low on needles for his lines and went in to this pharmacy to stock up. They wanted to charge us $1 a needle, which is ridiculous. (A box of 100 is less than $14 anywhere we have ever gone.) It was a waste of of our time going there. The pharmacist is very best and knows a lot. I had a problem with one of his employees by the name of Anna I think she has a British accent. The pharmacist went above and beyond to make sure things got fixed. He cares about his clients immensely. I had given the pharmacy 1 stars but when the pharmacist went out of his way to make things right had to change it to 5. He is very smart and caring. I read all the reviews and I'm pretty sure all the bad experiences come from her. Mine did. The service that everyone but Anna deliver is top notch. Because of her, I was going to never go back but the pharmacist is too good and nice not to. He told me to just ask for someone else if she is there. She went on a rant about Obama-care and her insurance is more expensive now because of lazy people who rely on the government. I have used College Pharmacy off and on for years for various things. I was sent there by my PT with instructions to get compression stockings($48), which I did with the assistance of a store employee- I took them home and tried one on and discovered it was too long. I boxed them back up to return to the store. To my dismay they could not be returned according to the store manager because they had 'touched my skin'. Anytime any product touches the skin it can not be returned. I told her if I had been told that up front by the sales person I would not have purchased them. $48 is lot to spend on something that does not fit and cannot be returned! She offered to sell me another pair at a discounted price which I refused. I was told that it states on the receipt that this is a non-returnable item- how does that work, you don't get the receipt until you have paid for the merchandise, too late! Also, they pointed out a sign to me that states the same policy- one problem with that is it is totally in a part of the store where a customer would most likely not be- Moving on.....I also purchased a toe guard to be worn at night to straighten out a crooked toe- I wore that guard a few nights, but it was too big and kept coming off.. Mind you, it too 'touched my skin', but skin touching merchandise return is very selective, apparently- I had no problem exchanging the toe guard...go figure? I won't be returning to CP. I respect their right to enforce their policy however they see fit- However, out of consideration for the Senior Citizen population who might not have the energy or time or eyesight required to go around and read store policy posted on the walls at CP how much effort would it take for the sales person to let the unsuspecting customer know that some items are not returnable.. or perhaps when checking out BEFORE HAND, alert them before payment is accepted that item is not returnable???? Anyway, lesson learned... It does seem a bit odd to me that retail stores all over the country allow the trying on of clothing items, including underwear and bathing suits- Yet this pharmacy frowns, selective as it is, on such a policy.
