Customer service SUCKS!!!! The lady that took care of us, dark skin older Dominican lady, clearly didn't want to take care of us. she served cold freaking coffee and didn't know if the restaurant made sandwiches. Which by the way, once she found out they made sandwiches she pawned it off on another worker that just had clocked in. She seemed bothered in taking care of us. When we finally sat down to eat the food didn't even taste good because of how she served us. When we went up to counter to tell them to warm up coffee, the bald guy said he will give us a fresh batch of coffee. We sat back down to eat the sandwich and bald guy forgot to brew the coffee. If I hadn't came back up to the counter to ask about it he would have never given it to me. needless to say he brewed it this time around while I waited at the counter. Unfortunately I took it to go since i had ate my sandwich. Very disappointed! read more

A lot has changed since they remodeled or changed ownership. The case is nice and the food looks fresh but the taste is slightly different. Before I would rush to get there early for my alcapurrias but now I don't even like them. An awesome and affordable off-the-beaten-path Dominical/Puerto Rican eatery. "Cafeteria style" service of a wide variety pre-prepared foods consisting of many different staples. We were the only English-speaking customers which I took as a ringing endorsement of the quality of the food. We will definitely be back. read more

Tried this place for lunch once and now I get food from there at least once a week. I have tried their yellow rice " arroz con guandulez " and pork chop "chuleta. On another occasion I tried the yellow rice with black beans and the oxtail. Both time food was delicious. Definitely one of the perks of working in New Haven is that there is so many good places to eat. Is not the prettiest place but is cozy and food is delicious. They also have natural juices which are also delicious. The small plate is $6 but they put in so much food that I haven't been able to eat the whole meal. How many times can I write the word delicious lol. Definitely worth trying. read more

Never had a bad meal at this hidden culinary gem in New Haven. Fried pork chops - incredible plantains - perfect. One of the few places that has yuca. My son always gets the roast pork and the rice and beans just tops off the perfect meal. If you are looking for foodie heaven this is it. $20 goes very very far. The servings is abundant. The food is glorious. Pretty hard to find this spot. It's not in the best location in New Haven, but don't let that deter you from the visit. They have parking in the back which I recently discovered, yes this more than 2x now visiting this place. I came here for the fried pork belly only. It's priced by the pound. I got half a pork belly for $4. It was crispy and juicy...overall very satisfying! When I asked for hot sauce (no additional cost), I got Tabasco which usually I'm not fond of. However, the vinegar from it cut the fat from the pork quite well. The service was fast and efficient...it was cafeteria style. I would definitely come back to try their other dishes. read more

We ordered "mofongo con chicharrones" and mofongo con carne frita and EVERYTHING was reheated a couple of times around. The mofongos were "brown", super dry and the pork meat was overcooked, dried and stringy. What a dissapointment! read more

Stopped by this spot for a late lunch and what a great choice. We grabbed our food to go but after getting the medium size combo, I found myself eating three times for the price of one. I ordered the arroz con guandules y pollo combo, and it tasted just like home! I'm rating the restaurant 4/5 because we also ordered all types of the empanadas and they weren't good and tasted pretty stale. However the rest of the food was great and I will be checking them out again next time i'm in town for sure. read more

I've been coming here for the past couple months. Food is up and down in quality. Workers can really work on fixing their attitude. They seem to have a bias when dealing with other hispanic customers, but with others who aren't Spanish speaking, they seem off-puttish. I have had instances where they've been rude and unprofessional, but today was the last straw. Food was not great (grilled salmon was dry and flavorless), and the person serving me had an attitude. I NEVER walk into an establishment rude to the workers. However, this woman seemed to have an issue. Will not be coming here again. read more

I've always loved Latin food and when I tell you hands down Collado's is as real as they come, I mean It!!!!!!!!!!! Everything they have is A1. From the rice to the empanadas to even the plantains and I'm the best plantain fryer in the game (ask about me) and they almost have me beat. Oh my god this carne guisada is just like my mother makes it! The platanos are perfectly ripe and sweet. I am feeling so blessed eating this food right now. All the comfort I needed is right here. My students told me about this place because I'm from Los Angeles and didn't know about local jewels. I am so glad I listened. Food is good but customer service is horrible. I've noticed that Latinos get treated better then any black or white person. Today my boyfriend who is black went to pick up our order that placed in Spanish. He was given someone else order and went back and returned it. Oh Em Gee!!! So I take it back. I used to say "there is NO good Spanish/Puerto Rican/Dominican food in New Haven. I cried and lamented for the few years that I have lived here and then voila. Mom comes home with the most delicious food I've had in ages. The yellow rice was so flavorful and cooked to perfection. I could just live on the rice. Rice is life. The pernil was slap your momma good. Seriously, backhand slap at that!! (ok I kid, I kid!) One of my mom's good friends to me made the best pernil on the planet (but she is no longer with us) and so Collado's has filled that void. These folks know Spanish food. I loveee Collado's because everything I have had here to eat taste good and cooked thoroughly. My favorite is the baked chicken w/ rice & beans, stuffed potato w/ meat, cheese empanadas, and their Thursday only Oxtails which are to die for, but you have to call when they first open to put in your order because they will be sold out of oxtails by the Afternoon. They are always putting out fresh items also, so the food is warm. The restaurant is clean, but they do charge a fee for dining in, which I don't agree with, but I always do takeout anyway so I'm not affected. The staff is very pleasant, but get their early or call in before pick-up because the lines can get long and it's barely parking although they have a parking lot on the side of their building it's real tight. read more

As close to heavenly food as one can come! I don't know how we've missed this place that's just a hop, skip and a jump from our home, but miss it we did, though not any longer. The food is absolutely delicious, the staff is so gracious and accommodating (we wanted meat, but no rice or potatoes - so they steamed up some broccoli and cauliflower for us). Pulled pork, pico de gallo, and steamed broccoli & cauliflower, and we were in heaven! We NEVER buy an extra order to take home, but we certainly did tonight. That pulled pork was so smooth and tasteful, we just had to get the extra serving to split for lunch tomorrow. Stopped in for the first time - super PR food. Our servers were patient, explained everything and very inviting. The food was top shelf - very fresh, tasty, and moist. My wife just got back from Puerto Rico, so she was quick to compare. She loved her meal. My wife had a combo platter and I had some salads and fried pork. Everything was great, portions were very good and prices quite reasonable. Don't forget to get a side of fresh hot pepper salsa as a condiment. We will be back for sure! read more

I love Spanish food and order it when possible. I was staying at the Omni hotel and decided to order from here through Uber Eats. I decided on the roast pork with rice and beans and my husband ordered the stewed chicken with yellow rice and peas. My roast pork had No flavor what's so ever along with the rice and beans. The stewed chicken was tough and the yellow rice was not cooked all the way. We couldn't even taste the cilantro in the food. Come on now, what Puerto Rican food without cilantro. The food was so bland. The only good thing we can say about the food is that you won't get high blood due to the bland taste. To make matters worse, they were too cheap to include silverware. All to go orders should have silverware included. The sad part, I cook better Puerto Rican and I'm NOT Spanish. I don't understand why this has so many stars, they must not have tried authentic Puerto Rican food. If you do order from here even after reading this review, be prepared to put a lot of hot sauce and salt on your food. read more

I went to this restaurant with a group of friends and we had a great time. At the time to ask for boxes and checks I asked my waitress, who had been pretty bland to me from the start, if I could get a box. She left to get one but grabbed my plate and put it in the dirty bin. I then told her that I clearly asked for a box for my food, meanwhile she has a little smirk on her mouth as if she did it on purpose. Which she clearly did for whatever reason. Our church had our baptisms catered by this place...we had arroz con gandules, "black rice and beans", chicken(bone in), and pernil(pork). It was by far the best Pernil I've ever had, and I have a bunch of Puerto Rican family and friends. I usually hate bone-in-chicken, but this was flavorful, tender, falling off the bone. The rice was also delicious. I hope that they don't use saźon, as it has MSG, but it was so delicious, I might not care. I would love to go to the restaurant and have a meal, but I've only tried the catering, which is stellar! I am a real "foodie", and I couldn't stop eating their food. Food-gasm for sure! read more
