My husband and I are restaurant hoppers, we love hitting spots during off-peak hours when they're not at capacity, and that's exactly what we did here. Being early birds, we had the place practically to ourselves, which made for a relaxed, no-rush lunch. I ordered the Jucy Lucy, a cheddar jack stuffed patty on a pretzel bun with sweet potato fries. When I cut into it with the steak knife they give you, molten cheese came pouring out of the center of the patty. That's exactly what you want from a Jucy Lucy and this one delivered. The pretzel bun had that perfect glossy chew, shredded lettuce and what tasted like a Thousand Island-style sauce rounded it out, and the whole thing was gloriously messy. Sweet potato fries were crispy and well-seasoned, not soggy, which is always the gamble with sweet potato fries. My husband went with a double patty burger on a brioche bun with tater tots. Melted cheese was dripping down the sides and those tots came out golden and crunchy. He had no complaints. Paired everything with a pink lemonade cocktail (refreshing, ice-cold, lemon wedge garnish) and waters. Perfect for an Arizona afternoon. Service was quick -- probably helped that we were the early birds -- and the atmosphere is laid-back sports bar vibes with plenty of seating options including comfortable booths, tables, and bar seating. We've visited several locations, but I'm writing about this one specifically because of its wonderful dog-friendly outdoor seating area. Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers is the perfect place to catch a game, with TVs scattered throughout so you never miss the action. The food is consistently very good. A great way to start is with the Jumbo Soft Pretzel served with jalapeño cheese sauce. They also offer several styles of creamy mac and cheese, or you can build your own with a variety of proteins and veggies. I've also tried the teriyaki chicken sandwich with jack cheese and a pineapple ring, and it was cooked perfectly. One of my favorites on the menu is the hard-to-find-in-the-Valley Jucy Lucy cheeseburger, which is always a treat when you can find it done right. I have been here twice, once as a group of 4 and the second as a group of 7. Each time we have sat in opposite sides of the restaurant, so I have a good feel on the entire space. The food here is good. It's not the best I've ever had, bur it is far from the worst. It is your typical American food with burger and fries. My kids love the chicken stripe bit hate the Mac and Cheese because it is too fancy for kids. They like the plain stuff. Both times our server has been great and I have no complaints, even when it was busy. The beers on tap are lovely and even the mixed drinks are tasty. Came here to watch the men's final four game. Crowd was huge and it was amazing that they had the game on ever TV with audio. Service was quick however, our waitress wasn't the most attentive - we had to ask for refills granted it was super crowded however being a sports bar/restaurant I think they should've had another person helping. The hamburgers are grilled well. The food even smells smokey when being eaten. You get housemade chips as part of your meal, but not French fries. French fries are an extra dollar or two. It takes awhile to get your food when ordering. When I do take out, the app indicates that it will take twenty minutes for the food to be ready. I remember not being especially impressed, and I want this time either I ordered a cheeseburger, and I asked if they could put a fresh onion slice on it because it's did not come with one. I appreciate that that did for me. I did not, however, love my cheeseburger. I ordered it medium, and it was practically raw--barely seared on the outside. My bun was soggy (I hate wet bread), and I stopped eating it halfway through. I was so excited that Cold Beers and Cheeseburgers moved in to the old Famous 66 spot. I loved Famous 66 but their prices were a bit outrageous so I feared they wouldn't last and lo and behold, they're gone. CBCB is a good replacement but after our experience here last night I'm concerned that this location might be short lived. When we arrived we were told there was a 10-15 minute wait, which we expected on a Saturday night but what was odd is that there were like 8 empty tables that remained empty while we waited and were sat. This leads me to believe that the kitchen was behind and they put people on a wait to catch up. This is exactly what Famous 66 did when they first opened up and we all saw what happened there. I ordered the veggie burger without tomato and added avocado. For the side I opted for the side salad for an additional $2.50. The burger came out without the avocado so the server brought some on the side. The salad was brown and wilting and its bagged salad that they just add a few cucumber slices to. Not worth the extra $2.50 in my opinion. The burger was good but I think I'll get it on the ciabatta bread next time as the bun it was on fell apart. Service started out good but then quickly went down hill. It seems our server forgot about us as it took almost 30 min for him to bring the check and when we paid, we had to bring it up to the host stand because the server disappeared again. Toward the end of our meal the server only had 3 tables so I don't know what the hold up was with everything. It seems the parent company for CB&CB bought Famous 66 as a turn key operation and kept the same staff/management. In fact, a lot of the old Famous 66 stuff is still up. All CB&CB did was change the outdoor signage. Why ask how I want my burger if the kitchen is going to ignore that request? Is it really as difficult as they make it seem? First time I went I asked for a side of fries/onion rings, no problem. This last time I went I asked for the same thing and the waitress was like "no, we don't do that anymore". That was it. No let me check, I'll see what I can do, etc. Like why? I am willing to ignore the minor stuff if you're going to give me what I ordered, but as a burger place if you cannot even cook the burger right, that is a major red flag. The one time I did get what I ordered it was a good burger. But given how damn expensive everything is, I am done gambling on this place and throwing away money. Probably our 6 or 7th time here since it opened last month. Today was the worst service ever. Waited for beers twice... more than 10 minutes both times after ordering, flagged her down, she blamed the bartender... who was not busy at all, our server was just in no rush to get them to our table. She was uninterested in serving us or checking in on us. We asked her to split our bill in half... we were with another couple. The bill total was 140, one of us got a bill for 80 and the other 60. RACIST ESTABLISHMENT!!! My friends & I decided to eat here after a soccer game & one of them tried ordering a beer (there were 7 of us all ages 23-25). The server asked for ID obviously, but then proceeded to immediately say "idk man this feels fake" to which our friend stated it is real. She took it back to her manager & brought it back a couple of minutes later stating "here we'll give this back to you but we don't feel comfortable serving you." Uh yea you will give it back because it is real & that would be stealing ???? Duh. We tried talking to her to which she said she'd just get her manager. Ole boy walked over & said "can I see this real quick?" Then took it back & scanned it, which he should've did the first time they questioned it. OBVIOUSLY IT IS REAL!! He brought it back & said "yea we'll give it back but we won't serve you unless you have another form of ID" okay AGAIN, yes you will give it back because IT'S REAL!!! If it was fake they would've confiscated it & we ALL KNOW THAT. Now mind you-- while he was back scanning the ID my friend was able to pull up a photo of his passport so when the manager asked for another form he said "yes I have my passport photo here" to which the manager replied "yea it has to be physically here". Oh yeah I forgot we needed to carry 10 forms of ID on us... Ok Billy Bob. My other friend pulled out her ID & said "mine is the exact same do you think this one is fake too?" We told him we could call the cops for them to clear this up & the manager said "I mean it's a free country you can do whatever you want" hmm qWHITE interesting. We decided on OUR OWN to leave & walk to BWW (we had only ordered but hadn't received any food yet so we didn't skip the bill) & as we were outside walking over we noticed the manager followed us out & was on the phone watching where we went. As we walk in to Bdubs, there were 3 people including one of their managers standing looking like we knew they were who the call went to. We told them immediately what happened, showed the ID, to which they said was real. DUHHHH. They told us that the manager did call them & said that they were the ones who kicked us out! We got up & left ourselves we didn't need kicking out of a racist place. Bye Felicia. Anyways, of course, they took our side, seated us & we continued to have a great night & my friend GOT HIS BEER *audience claps*. Been here many times before and had excellent service, unfortunately this last time my husband and I went, we sat at the bar which is where we normally go. As we sat down we were greeted by the bartender who is normally really good, he gave us menus and told us he wasn't our server because they're doing shift swap. We understood and continued to look for drinks to order, he got our drinks in pretty fast then told us again he wasn't our server and he wasn't going to serve us due to the shift change. We understood again and moved on looking for food to order, as 45 minutes go by we're still waiting to order food. The shift change still hadn't happened yet and the same bartender is still behind the bar. My husband and I went there to eat lunch so it was kind of inconvenient that we weren't able to order food until the shift changed which didn't happen for another hour. Eventually we asked the same bartender to order appetizers and he seemed bothered to take our order, not only that he reminded us AGAIN that he wasn't serving us and someone else will be taking care of us. (that someone else wasn't at the bar at all) and proceeded to go put our order in and tell his fellow employee "this is f*cking ridiculous" out loud and that wasn't the only time the bartender was cussing, complaining, and acting inconvenienced behind the bar in-front of customers. Eventually we ate our appetizers and left right after to eat somewhere else. We've had great service here before so it's disappointing to see that's how our Sunday afternoon went. Maybe it was a bad day for them but if I'm paying you for your service i should expect good service. We still left gratuity and hope they change how they do things.
