Pork medallions

Was looking for a lunch spot while in town for lunch, and I heard this was a go-to spot for many folks. I can see why. I had a pork lunch special that was nicely cooked, quickly served, and reasonably priced...kind of a trifecta for a quick lunch (and, to be clear, quite tasty since the "nicely cooked" comment might not adequately convey the point!). Lots of options on the menu for every appetite. Service was friendly, attentive, and helpful. Good atmosphere, relaxed but not divey or anything, lots of space (I got there when it opened, and much of that space was full when I left--twas indeed a go-to spot).

Great service and food . Decent historical building with comfortable booths.. we tried the batter fried mushrooms which were tasty.. chicken salad sandwich with sweet potato fries were just right for a lighter lunch. Nice historical building ambience

Check out the amount of chicken in my $20 chicken alfredo. That's right -- a whole four bites.

Another Great Restaurant in Downtown Owensboro !!! I had heard about Colby's and always wanted to try it. I finally had an extra night in which I had the opportunity to try Colby's and went there for dinner. Colby's has been around since 1987 and is a staple in Owensboro. Their menu has many comfort foods, American Classics, Bourbons, Cocktails, some craft beers and a whole lot more. On my visit, I tried 3 dishes and a 'Wheat' Bourbin from a local distillery. First up was a glass of Green River Kentucky Straight Wheated Bourbon which set the course for my meal. My first choice of the evening was Colby's Classic Shrimp Louisianne which was Six large shrimp sautéed in cajun butter and served sizzling hot in a skillet with a side of Cheesy Garlic Bread. The shrimp were plump, juicy and full of flavour and a great starter. Next up was Colby's take on New Orleans Gumbo made with a blend of shrimp, scallops, chicken, onions, peppers, andouille sausage and rice. The 'cup' size was almost a meal itself with big chunks of andouille sausage and a palatable spice level. For my main course, I had the 8oz center-cut aged filet mignon served medium-rare with sides of mashed potatoes, brown gravy, sauteed mushrooms and veggies. The streak was a little overcooked but tender enough to be able to enjoy. The servers and the food were really good and I see why people flock to Colby's after all these years. Another great place to try when you are in the Owensboro area.

This is a nice, friendly restaurant with a lot of variety and good quality food. Had lunch there with a group of five and everyone liked it.

That buttery goodness never gets old. Call me an extreme optimist, I DON'T GIVE A RATS BEHIND! Each bite I take is like a new feeling swarming me.. Eggs... Content Sausage... Joy Pancakes.. Nostalgia... Bacon.. Greed... Biscuits and gravy... Thankful. Love it here. Always brings a smile to my face. Not to mention the great coffee. Love that roast.

And with such friendly service every time that I cannot fathom not returning for more... Your pancake. It was enormous. Your burger I got before and like to order regularly... also enormous. All of which are yummy. I gave it my all, but alas I failed to finish that gigantic pancake (actually it was 2 pancakes). I'd been shamed in front of my coworkers. I am now seen and judged as the guy who cannot finish 3 eggs, bacon, 2 biscuits smothered in gravy, a bunch of tator tots, and a double stack of throw pillow sized pancakes. I tried my best and gave it my all that day. I'll be back but quiet and reserved. Humbled by my experience, sitting in the dark corner and enjoying my delicious meal in silence wearing a cap and sunglasses. Post meal food coma rating: SEVERE

The space itself was quite large with ample seating and a lot of decoration throughout the walls, including photos of people (presumably some of Deloris...have yet to gain any confirmation on this), America pride, and oh right, ads. A whole bunch of ads and marketing plugs from other fellow Owensboro businesses! How great is that! These places are holding onto each other helping one another out, that's America right there! I believe I got one of their breakfast spread that included some scrambled eggs, sausage links, biscuit, grits, and coffee. Pretty filling meal for like $5 or something. Crazy, right? None of them city folk prices or nothing! I know I'll never be here again, but because I have a good memory of my short time at this cafe and its warm personality, I can't help but give it 4 stars. I ordered the Manhattan but the waitress said that wasn't available on Saturday. The menu didn't mention that. So I ordered a cheese burger. It came with potato chips that most likely came from a big bag. The burger patty was very thin. That's ok with me, but it was very overcooked, crispy and smelled fishy. Honestly the worst hamburger I've ever had. My wife's breakfast was cool to the touch. Told the waitress about my burger and she didn't charge me for it. I love to try places I've never been to and now I know that I don't have to try this place ever again.

The oldies jams are still in play and keeping the vibe upbeat. I've never been in here tearing up because that forbidden broken heart love song came on at the wrong time. I've been doing burgers and shakes and new flavors of ice cream and I'm discovering that chocolate ice cream and its many descendants are quite delicious. For example I beta tested the Kentucky Fudge Pecan Pie in a baby sized cup and found that I love it! I also reaffirmed that I have zero allergic reaction to pecans. Furthermore, I discovered that pie crust bits in ice cream are flipping fantastic and something I will include in my extensive list of things I am thankful for come this November's Turkey holiday. Props to the Ice Cream expert whom I had been told crafts these flavors in house. Is it some kind of Ice Cream elf? Maybe. That doesn't even matter. Who or whatever is making this delicacy is doing a great job at creaming this ice with fantastic flavor and ruining my ability to drop this final 4 lbs I'm trying to shed. Try it out and enjoy this wondrous thing! But be warned... the pecans may contain nuts. UPDATE: I just discovered that they offer TATOR TOTS! It should be known just by looking at me that tater tots are my favorite means of delivering potatoes to my belly. This delivery process is further expedited by spooning steaming hot chili and shredding cheese over it. They've titled an entire movie after how I eat chili cheese tots. "Gone in 60 Seconds". I devoured it voraciously and it disappeared. I don't know how it tasted because it was immediately absorbed once it appeared on the counter. I'm sure i enjoyed it though. Try it yourself and let me know if it is good. I am not reliable in this instance.

One area that could use improvement is accessibility. While I'm not a wheelchair user, I do use a cane, and I found it frustrating to maneuver around the dining room because the tables are placed so close together. I also noticed that the self-service drink station would be difficult, if not impossible, for many wheelchair users to access comfortably. A few changes to the layout would make the restaurant much more welcoming and accessible for people with a variety of mobility needs. Overall, I'd definitely come back for the excellent food and hope to see accessibility improvements in the future.
