My waitress was super nice and extremely skilled at her job. I had the ribeye with a loaded baked potato and house salad/ranch dressing. I left thoroughly impressed. I ordered the ribeye medium and it was absolutely perfect. The seasoning was much better than Texas Roadhouse. The baked potato was the best I have had in years, nice and soft and perfectly topped. The salad was fresh and not overloaded. The overall experience felt very relaxed. Even though it was seven minutes until closing when I finished eating, my waitress enthusiastically asked if I wanted desert. This is a quality restaurant worth every penny. My date and I arrived around 6pm on a very busy Saturday night. The hostess said our wait would be 15-20 minutes. We were seated at a booth after a 45 minute wait. The restaurant was very large and noise level was quite loud. Our server was amazing! She had our refills ready throughout our visit. We started with breaded mushrooms and we added a side of ranch. The batter was crispy and not only were the mushrooms hot and fresh but sooo tasty! The sauces are all house made and they do not disappoint. I ordered the house chicken with the chef's vegetable of the night, which was squash, zucchini, peppers, and onions and a side salad. I didn't get a photo of the side salad but it was topped with bacon crumbles, hard boiled egg, house made croutons, and it came with a piece of cheese toast that was to die for! My chicken was juicy and flavorful and the squash was delicious. My date ordered the chicken fingers, waffle fries, and onion straws. The portions were very generous and everything tasted amazing. What an absolute gem of a location we found on this rainy Saturday afternoon. My sister and I decided to start of with onion strings with in were amazing. We also ordered two different chicken dinners so we could split them. I the fried chicken strips and she ordered Hawaiian chicken dish. Both came with a number of different sides. She opted for a yummy salad and I grabbed a side of broccoli. The decor was pleasantly adorned with a tin ceiling and rustic furnishings. The service and atmosphere here really stood out! We were in town on a recent Saturday for a competition at the convention center and decided on Colby's for lunch based off other reviews. Any staff that we encountered showed interest and enthusiasm for our table in their team jerseys. I wish I could recall our servers name. She mentioned that she was a mom of 4 (I believe) and she treated us, especially our children, so well ! We were pleased with our food and felt as though it was a good value. My husband and I had dinner at Colby's yesterday. It was an anniversary dinner and we were looking forward to it even though we do frequent Colbys. We both decided on the prime rib which we rarely have. It was a mistake! My prime rib was dried up and very thin, it looked as if it had been fried as it was crusty. I've never had prime rib any place that was like this. It was half the thickness of my husband's and neither of them had any seasoning and neither did the au jus. Honestly it was just a piece of tough beef. My husband's was similar to mine as far as being tasteless and neither were tender. This was a total disappointment. Having looked at the above photos of what others were served, there was no comparison to what we received. In retrospect, we both wish that we had sent them back for a redo. Unfortunately, or service was not good either. As I said we frequent Colbys and have had this particular waitress twice. Neither time has she been attentive. She walked past our table several times not making eye contact as we sat there idle, needing her attention. We will try to be sure that we do not get her again. She was nice but not a good waitress. Another Great Restaurant in Downtown Owensboro !!! I had heard about Colby's and always wanted to try it. I finally had an extra night in which I had the opportunity to try Colby's and went there for dinner. Colby's has been around since 1987 and is a staple in Owensboro. Their menu has many comfort foods, American Classics, Bourbons, Cocktails, some craft beers and a whole lot more. On my visit, I tried 3 dishes and a 'Wheat' Bourbin from a local distillery. First up was a glass of Green River Kentucky Straight Wheated Bourbon which set the course for my meal. My first choice of the evening was Colby's Classic Shrimp Louisianne which was Six large shrimp sautéed in cajun butter and served sizzling hot in a skillet with a side of Cheesy Garlic Bread. The shrimp were plump, juicy and full of flavour and a great starter. Next up was Colby's take on New Orleans Gumbo made with a blend of shrimp, scallops, chicken, onions, peppers, andouille sausage and rice. The 'cup' size was almost a meal itself with big chunks of andouille sausage and a palatable spice level. For my main course, I had the 8oz center-cut aged filet mignon served medium-rare with sides of mashed potatoes, brown gravy, sauteed mushrooms and veggies. The streak was a little overcooked but tender enough to be able to enjoy. The servers and the food were really good and I see why people flock to Colby's after all these years. We went to Colby's on a Saturday for lunch to celebrate some graduations. When we arrived, there were a few people eating, but not many. We had made a reservation for 16. They had us at a booth that seated 10 (crowded) and another booth for 6 a little ways away. We asked if we could be seated together, but they rudely said they didn't have enough servers for that(?). We got a call that 6 more people were coming so we asked if we could have another table close to our group. There were several empty tables around us so we didn't think it would be a problem, but they said they would have to be seated elsewhere. When they arrived, they ended up letting them sit at a table that wasn't too far away, but it only seated 4. They finally took our order and the wait started. It was at least an hour before meals started coming out. Two or three people would get their food and then nothing for quite awhile. We ordered first, but it was at least an hour and a half before we got our food. The food was okay, but most people in our group were already done before we even started. We may as well have gone to different restaurants the way we were seated and served. This along with the very rude treatment by the 'head server' (?) made this a restaurant I won't be returning to. read more

Kobe's is a fun place to have a meal. Set in historic building across from the courthouse I love the exposed brick and the decor. The service was impeccable. Everyone was friendly and helpful and checked on us just the right amount of times. My dining partner ordered the special of the night which was the pot roast. It was absolutely delicious. She shared a bite with me. I ordered the smash burgers. The portions were very generous. I have never had smash burgers before and realized it's not my favorite. I like my burgers, big and juicy however, they had nice flavor and a good crunch. The best of all for me was the dessert, chocolate pecan pie à la mode was out of this world. I highly recommend it. While visiting Owensboro, I tried to find a restaurant that was not a typical chain. This is a great local place to have a nice dinner with family or friends. The atmosphere is great and staff is very friendly. We waited about 15 mins for a table for 2 at around 6pm on a Saturday evening. I had the Hawaiian chicken with a side salad and sweet potato fries. Really casual atmosphere and guests ranged from families, grungy construction workers, well dressed businessmen, and cute couples. My husband and I ate at Colby's this past Friday evening We had the special oven, roasted pork loin, and it was delicious. Portions were large and very filling. We had placed our drink order and half order of fried mushrooms And five minutes later, we received our salads and about three minutes after that they brought our main course, but we never did get the mushrooms Our waitress told us when we questioned her about our mushrooms that the cook burnt the first order and she would resubmit our order and we told her not to because our main course had already arrived This one mishap didn't ruin our meal It was delicious. Colby's is my favorite restaurant in Owensboro KY. Great service, beautiful restaurant, and the food is always fabulous. I had the black bean burger today. It was just the right amount of spice. My husband had the chicken salad sandwich. It was a bit messy but he ate every bite and said he'd order it again. They brought sweet potato fries instead of regular fries for my husband. I don't like sweet potatoes but these were awesome! I will definitely order them next time. Our waitress today really went above and beyond. She worked a large section but refilled drinks every time we were beginning to get low. Plus she checked on us and all her tables frequently and brought food promptly. I wish I could remember her name, shame on me. She was amazing!! One of our favorite dishes is the salmon BLT. Super yummy! I highly recommend it. Our favorite appetizer is their loaded fries. The service was always top notch, and the food good (some of the best chicken tenders around!); however, I was there on a Saturday evening, and I hate to say it, but it was the worst steak I've ever had. $30, and it was terrible. Absolutely little to no seasoning. For $30 I didn't want to let it go to waste, so I brought it home, seasoned it myself, and stuck it in the air fryer. The other meals at our table were average, to say the least. The kids pizza was a huge blob of cheese, and the house chicken looked like it was topped with cheap lunchmeat. The desserts that came with the kids meal and early evening meal were store bought. The brownies were the bite sized brownies you get at Sam's Club. Maybe they were having an off night. Maybe they have new cooks. I love to support local businesses, and will give them another try, but most definitely won't be ordering the steak again. 3 stars for the ambience and previous visits. read more
