I was so impressed by this little place. We saw the sign for coffee house or McDonald's and we took a chance on coffee house and we were not disappointed. The bathrooms are clean even if one of the doors doesn't latch well. We tried the chocolate Bavarian cream stuffed beignets and the regular beignets and the cafe au lait. The beignets are the best I had anywhere. They were a nice size and they were light and fluffy and covered in powdered sugar. The cafe au lait was just ok, I think we liked it better the cafe au lait mixed half and half with the French roast coffee for a stronger coffee flavor. The service was great. Very friendly and helpful and we don't wait too long to take our food with us. You can sit and eat in also but we were on our way through. We loved how coffee house is tucked into a little antique shop Cajun village. It has Cajun country music playing and there are stuffed gators around and lot of interesting antiques. I wish it were closer to more things to do, but if you're on the road from Nola to Baton Rouge it is a definite must! I really hope to go back with more time and try more interesting things. read more

I've been coming here for almost 20 years. I live out of state now and make it a point to come visit when I return. As always, the food is very consistent. The café au lait is strong and the beignets are made fresh order. They come out piping hot with loads of powdered sugar on top. Don't sleep on the club sandwich either. If you need a break on driving to NOLA stop here. This is a simple breakfast spot with huge flavor. My favorite is omelettes or red beans and rice. Service is just a cashier and a food runner. I live in Pelican Crossing for about nine months after moving here from Texas. I grew up in Baton Rouge, but a lot has changed since I moved to Austin to go to college in 1974. I didn't realize it was even anything on Highway 22 until I read something on next-door or maybe it was yelp. that's what I learned that they were both at McDonald's and The Cajun Village, which includes this coffee house, all less than 10 minutes away. I've been to Café du Monde many times (although, as a child, we preferred morning call, which had a location less than 100 yards away back in the day, and was more of a blue-collar place), and I would say that the beignets at Cajun Village coffee are comparable, and their coffee was just fine. The Coffee House, like all of the rest of The Cajun Village is located in historic repurposed buildings. As it's name would suggest, the Coffee House has really good coffee. They specialize in café au lait, the New Orleans style coffee with scalded milk. Of course, if you want café au lait, you probably want beignets! They have you covered for these as well, both thin strips and soft pillows of luscious fried dough dusted in powdered sugar can be had for the asking. But they have a very special type of beignets that you will want to try, the Filled Beignets! These are what bring me back repeatedly. As the name would suggest, these beignets have filling. This includes chocolate, cream, fruit fillings, and more. These beignets come in orders of two, so you can mix or match fillings. You have got to try these! They also have hearty regular breakfasts for those wanting the classics of meat, eggs, and toast. Likewise, they also serve home style lunches. These include sandwiches, burgers, and plate lunch options. My favorite is the Hamburger Steak Plate. The ambiance of the facility itself needs to be take in. It is a historical building filled with antiques and artifacts. The restrooms are outside and in the back, as many historic buildings used to have. While there, one can wander and visit the other stores in The Cajun Village, all of which sell various types of Louisiana products, crafts, memorabilia, and souvenirs. Clearly, this is a good place for visitors to stop and shop, but residents might find some interesting items as well. Visitors might also want to go across Highway 22 and stop by the Ascension Parish Tourist Commission facility. Since all of these things are just off Interstate 10, this makes it a perfect place for travelers to stop in. Be sure to try those beignets while you are there! read more

One of my new favorite restaurants. The food was absolutely delicious. My husband had fried eggs, grits & bacon. The egg was fried to perfection. I had the red beans & rice with hot smoked sausage. DELICIOUS!! The coffee was amazing and we had regular coffee. I will definitely be back. My only complaint was the apple filling in the beignets was ice cold!! I couldn't eat it. I did take it back to the hotel and heat it up. Although it wasn't quite the same effect IT WAS GOOD. The atmosphere is nostalgic and makes you feel like you're at home. I didn't realize that there was a place called The Cajun Village on Highway 22, which has a variety of different businesses located there, including some nice restaurants. The Cajun Village is a unique place to visit, and while the Coffey house has pre-limited hours, I tried their beignets and café au lait, both of us were outstanding, and very comfortable to Café du Monde in New Orleans. I took mine to go, but I noticed that they have a nice sitdown dining area that is very family friendly. They have daily lunch specials that I will want to go back and sample. read more

What an awesome place to visit! We spent the weekend in Prairieville,LA visiting my sister over the weekend, she insisted on us trying coffee house. I'm glad we did! It's an old house that used to be apart of a plantation. It has old original locks and door knobs and some windows. They did build an add on to it but for the most part, it's all original. The menu isn't too big but what they do make was pretty delicious. Waylon got the sausage and cheese omelet with hash browns. He inhaled the hash browns, like he had never had such amazing ones before. I looked one way then back and those hash browns were gone! I did get to try the omelet and it was one of the best I have had in a long time. It had the perfect sausage to cheese ratio. The plate also came with a biscuit, Wren ate that. Girl doesn't eat anything but she loved that biscuit and she ended up eating all of my bacon too. I got the cafe au Lait which is their "prepared" coffee. It was peppery goodness. I also ordered 3 beignets and I wish I had ordered more. They were the most perfect patisserie I have ever had. They were crisp and light at the same time. And of course, covered in powdered sugar. Breakfast good in a country village-like setting in a city off the interstate. Phew, that was a mouthful. I've knowingly passed this place several times, but finally had the time to stop in. Greeted by a horseshoe of "country cottages" right off I-10 west/east near the sorrento exit. The cottages hold different trinkets, wares & foods, drinks etc. We stopped in at the cottage where the food was housed. YummmmY YummmmY for my TummmmY. We had grits, eggs, toast, coffee, French toast, eggs, apple juice & a side of beignet fingers. Can you say "full as a tick"... Well we were. The decor was rustic like a country cottage. The tables. The chairs. The windows. On down to the front screen door. Loved it!!!! The food was average; the ambiance & the quaintness of the country cottage setting gave me more life, nostalgia of sorts. Old time, diner style breakfast in an old time building. Perfect. Just perfect. Omelettes have just enough cheese, a boatload of bacon, and just the right amount of whatever you order (my mushrooms and jalapeños were perfectly balanced). But the eggs!! The eggs are absolutely perfect - soft and fluffy. Perfect compliment to a side of crispy shredded hash browns. The kind you dream of, with lots of the yummy crunchy bits. And served with a perfectly soft, pillowy biscuit with a lightly crunchy crust. Bacon is thick and crispy, grits are not too thin and runny, and the beignets were excellent (my wife thought they tasted like the frying oil was due for a change, but they tasted great to me). Service was good - order at the counter, fill your own cup, find a table you like in one of the cozy, rustic rooms, and someone will bring your delightful breakfast soon.
