Avacado toast added the egg

Been a patron since opening and this spot has remained a great neighborhood staple! Have to commend Jonathan for being a renaissance man of this cafe... delicious and beautiful latte work, making sure the patio and interior keeps polished and clean, and even keeping the vibe upbeat and welcoming. It so refreshing to see someone so passionate about their work and service. Yummy single sourced coffee and delicious creative lattes just a walk away from home. Food is served warm and beautiful presented for a nice morning or afternoon bite. Pastries are always an exciting treat for the kiddos too.

The outside

I recently visited Commissary Coffee and overall it was just okay. The shop itself has a nice atmosphere and a good location, but the coffee was a bit watery and didn't have the strong flavor I was expecting. For the price, I honestly expected better quality. The experience at the counter also felt a little off since the cashier didn't seem very friendly or welcoming. Service wasn't terrible, just not very warm. On the positive side, the place is clean and has a nice vibe to sit and relax for a while. It's not a bad café, but there's definitely room for improvement.

Cozy and busy coffee spot, particularly on a Sunday. Their breakfast burrito really hits the spot and they make a really nice latte.

One of the worst coffees Iv had .. watered down and doesn't taste like anything close to a cup of coffee for $4.50 on top of that while waiting for my drink one of the baristas was sitting on the countertop in front of all the customers! Never going back

matcha latte and vanilla latte

In a very crowded area, but there is free street parking. Ambince was chill as it was around 6pm and the music wasn't too loud. It is a work friendly cafe so there is a charging station in every other table I believe. The staff were very friendly! I got the matcha latte that had a fishy taste... it seemed like low-quality as it didn't taste well. Though the sweetness was just right. I got the brisket burrito thinking it was going to be a burrito- it wasn't. It was a bowl of veggies and couldn't find the brisket.. My friend got the vanilla latte and the fried chicken sandwich which he thought were both alright. Throughout my 3 hour stay, it smelled like pee time to time. I'm really bummed as I have been looking forward to visit this cafe, but did not have a good experience.

Iced Matcha Latte

I ordered an iced Matcha latte, and usually it's good and vibrant green but this last time I ordered the matcha looked like a chai. I even asked them what it was bc the color was so off but it looks like they were using matcha that was old and oxidized so it was no longer the green color it naturally is but instead a dull creamish color. I didn't let myself judge it on the color but once I tasted it, it was so gross. I couldn't drink it and ended up throwing it away. Only giving it 3 stars because I've had their matcha before multiple times, otherwise I would've given it a 1 star. Hoping it was just a fluke but I would recommend being wary of the matcha since it looks like they use old or expired matcha powder

So much charm and flavor at this cafe! Hidden in Kenneth village, this was such a great find! A few things that set them apart, is how fresh everything seemed. I mean, the whole place smelled like the fresh churro buns! They called everyone by name- they remember all their customers! It has a homey feel, yet very spacious (great for studying or work) and decorated beautifully. I ordered the veggie burrito and the churro buns and both were delicious! Coffee was fresh and I believe brewed in house. I'll def be back next time I'm in the area!

This place was crowded and we had to wait in line for about 15 minutes. The employees seemed to have a nice system in place to knock out the orders. My friend and I ordered the Mocha Latte, I had mine iced and my friend got it hot. They served the drinks fairly quick. I would say the consensus is that the latte wasn't anything spectacular for the price and the mocha they used was cheap chocolate. We wouldn't come back unless we are in the area and even then, there probably are better options to try out.

Pretty good coffee, yummy food/pastries, and really great servers. The vibes in there are good. I think if you're stopping just for a coffee fix it's not necessarily "top tier" choice, but if you're going to sit with friends or to work or study it's an awesome spot.

Brisket burrito yum!

Coffee commissary is what you would imagine a coffee shop in LA to be. The Glendale location is in an old town area of small shops. The shop is really hip, with very fashionable people. One thing I like about this place is ample seating both outside and inside. It is a cool place to get some work done or get something to eat & drink coffee. I mainly came here to try the breakfast burritos and get my coffee fix. One cool thing is you can get breakfast in the pm. I got the brisket burrito, I would say about 4.5 stars. I liked the rub of the brisket that gives it flavor, you could go without salsa if you really wanted to. The tortilla chips that come with it are delicious and fresh. This place breaks the mold as far as coffee shops having good food. Few coffee shops can pull it, but Coffee Commissary does. Now for the coffee how good is it? I would say not top tier best of LA good, but good. I had a Cubano cinnamon latte, which was good. My wife had a Vanilla latte which, taste more like a sweet latte. Overall I think it's a four to five star place depending upon how picky you are when it comes to coffee. The food, seating and ambiance and pretty good coffee makes coffee commissary a great place to visit.

BRISKET HASH - two sunny eggs, triple fried potatoes, brisket, avocado, hollandaise

My boyfriend stumbled upon this gem of a coffee shop one morning and was so excited to take me. Parking gets a little dense depending on what time you go-- weekend morning's... good luck! We typically park across the street in the parking lot next to the bakery. There's typically a line out the door (expected because this place has amazing coffee and breakfast items!) the line moves fairly quickly and the wait for your order will take from 5-15 minutes depending on how busy it is. This cute hipster coffee shop has seating areas but be prepared to possibly sit outdoors. It can get crowded! That's the only downfall about this place. Even on busy weekend mornings the wait is worth it!! I usually get an iced American, amazing flavor without tasting watered down. My boyfriend always gets the Chai Latte, it has the perfect amount of spiced flavor. On the weekends before 3pm they serve the best Brisket Hash, me and my boyfriend share the bowl! The potatoes are so crispy-- never soggy. The brisket is seasoned well, eggs are still runny, the hollandaise sauce is my favorite. It adds such a nice contrast to the food.

Friend recommended this place to me for a good matcha & study place. Both times I came here, minimal seats were available inside--shows how popular this place is! The cafe plays pretty loud music so if you're looking for a quieter cafe, this isn't for you. Otherwise, bring your headphones or enjoy the background music and chatter. Outside seating is available and honestly a nice, breezy option for when it's not too hot. Their matcha isn't my favorite, but it's good enough. (+) street parking available, not hard to find (+) has large food & drink menu (+) wifi & sockets available (+) open later than most cafes ( ) can get full & loud during peak hours ( ) matcha wasn't quite flavorful/rich ( ) brisket burrito was yummy, but very $$$

Very popular neighborhood place. Outdoor seating is nice and highly prized. Lots of people bring dogs and on the weekends, the place will be packed indoor and out with sports teams and groups of friends and neighbors. A real locals joint. Parking can be tough. Cookies for the table are a must.

For a $14 dolllar burrito you'd expect more quantity and quality. This place is bad and overpriced management are greedy.

Ask the Community - Coffee Commissary

Does Coffee Commissary accept EBT?

no offended tho, this shouldn't be a place for EBT ( Food assistance for in needed). This is a fancy place for who could through some cash gratis to baristas who are working their assoff in minimum wages.

Do they have different sizes for their coffee?

Yes two different sizes

Do they offer gluten free bread?

No (the only option is gluten free chocolate cake per the barista)

Are we allowed to sit outside even after hours?

Probably, just depends on the neighbors. And if they bring in the tables and chairs. Either way, there's a built in bench on the street facing sidewalk.

I happened to be at the tire shop across the street getting the tires changed on my car and needed to pick up some pastries for guests that were coming over that same day. One of those guests happens to be a baker so I really needed to find some fresh delicious pastries. I checked Yelp for nearby bakeries and La Jaconde popped up with really great reviews so I drove right across the street and picked up some baked goods. I picked up this big pastry that was stuffed with cream cheese and sour cherries (TRUST ME you want this), a box of mixed cookies and bite sized goodies, and a box of stuffed dates (don't knock it until you try it). EVERYTHING was fresh. Everything was tasty. And it got the stamp of approval from the baker friend. The cream cheese and sour cherry stuffed bakery literally disappeared in 10 minutes, and that thing was not small by any means. I returned to this same place the following week to pick up some savory baked goods for some friends, and the owner was at the shop and was so kind and so proud of his products (as he should be). Needless to say this is going to be my bakery of choice. I'd drive past 5 shops to get to this one any day.

Light, silky, refreshing, and packed with tropical flavor without feeling too sweet. I also tried the raspberry chocolate pastry which was beautifully executed with raspberry compote and chocolate mousse, but I'm just very particular about chocolate-forward desserts. The iced vanilla latte was the perfect balance alongside the pastries, and I ended up leaving with a handful of macarons that were honestly addictive. Every flavor was delicious. Love the outdoor seating too. Perfect spot to slow down for a minute, enjoy a coffee, and have a really elevated pastry experience.

Their New York rolls were full, rich, flaky, and flavorful. Unfortunately, over the past year, the quality has gone completely downhill. The croissants are now dry, overcooked, and tasteless , even early in the morning. It honestly feels like they changed the butter because the flavor is gone. The pastries look beautiful for Instagram, but the taste no longer matches the image. People probably come for the terrace and the "Paris" aesthetic, but nothing about these pastries feels authentically French anymore. The owner is Iranian and honestly should stick to Iranian pastries instead of trying to market this place as a French pâtisserie, because it is nowhere close to the quality or refinement of a real French pastry shop. On top of that, customer service is terrible. The employees are rude, impatient, and act bothered when you ask simple questions like the price of a croissants ; especially since prices are not clearly displayed. Paying almost $7 for a croissant or New York roll, and $10+ for many pastries, would maybe be acceptable with excellent quality and service... but definitely not with dry pastries and rude staff. Parking is another nightmare. There's no dedicated parking lot, so you have to park on San Fernando, pay for parking, and parking enforcement is constantly circling waiting to ticket people the second your time expires. This was my last visit. Save your money and go elsewhere for pastries -- honestly, even Whole Foods does better at this point.
