First of all the coffee is delicious. Smooth without a trace of bitterness. Mellow and perfect. I've never had a better cup of coffee. But the place is absolutely filthy. Junk everywhere; open boxes partially emptied, random items propped on chairs rendering them unusable. Dust on every surface. Across the back, a giant black cloth tacked to the wall with random racks. Looks like a school bulletin board that's just being started. They apparently have musicians some nights and all the musical equipment is pushed against the wall. There's a large cushioned seat with an enormous banner filled up on to it, so no one could sit on it. I can't have caffeine because of a heart condition. The owners insist that their coffee is "naturally low in caffeine" and has "half the caffeine of most decaffeinated coffee". So I foolishly had a cup and suffered with palpitations for several days. A caffeine sensitive friend had a similar experience. We had bagels and they were just meh, nothing special. So I'll probably never eat there again and won't have their coffee (caffeine) but we'll probably buy the coffee for my husband and other friends. It's very good. read more

After trying their iced latte and a hot latte, I'd never consider purchasing their beans. The hot latte was close to the boiling temp with scalded milk and the iced latte was on par with a Dunkin Iced Coffee. The hot latte was filled only 75% of full. Honestly, junk. read more

We've been to Costa Rica and had delicious coffee there, very smooth. We will return as they have breakfast sandwiches. If you can appreciate a really good quality cup of coffee, do not miss this coffee shop! It's really hard to miss tucked away in a little plaza. The owners are extremely knowledgeable when it comes to coffee and are very friendly. Coffee is all organic and I haven't had a variety I didn't like (yet). Food is pretty good here, too. Although, I will say that I've been going here since we moved to Salem in 2016 and they've gone through a few chefs. We've also had a few weird experiences there where they "didn't have food" (I think the chef may have just left that morning or something). Baked goods they sell at the register are a MUST (brownies are seriously amazing). Coffee by the pound is a bit expensive but it is all organic and truly better than anything you'll get elsewhere. Expect to pay upwards of $25 for a pound (unless its the Jamaican blue mountain at $50/lb...yikes!). read more

It is worth checking out this place, way better than the Taco Bell in front of it. If you're looking for Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts... yeah stop reading this review now. The food is good and made on site or from local vendors. It takes time because of heating it in a toaster oven, not a microwave as other Yelpers said. Trust me, you can taste the difference. They are consistent with their products, but also don't expect a Tall caramel soy frappucino. Expect quality, simple coffee drinks and an eclectic variety of food which rotates. The real issue is the organization of the place and the staff. I recognize how this place is set up from being in foreign countries, and this sort of setup is not popular in the U.S. The owner should not be near the door unless he is going to serve customers, and interfacing with customers should be kept at a minimum unless they engage you. High-Top chairs at the entrance also make customers feel blocked in and unwelcome. Another example - the ordering counter should be closer to the door. Note I gave this 4 stars anyway, and that is because their product is that good and the person who served us is incredibly nice, reasonable, and supportive. You will get value for what you pay here; some things will cost more but they are worth it. I think it's an unpolished gem which needs an update from 6 years of being open, needs patronage, and has a problem because of its location in a strip mall behind fast food places. read more

I stopped in here while I was waiting for my car to be fixed. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted and informed of all this place has to offer. I ended up getting an ice latte with milk flavored with coconut and mocha. They also include coffee ice cubes in it. That's the first place I have ever been to that has had that. I have been a loyal patron since 2013 and I'm done coming here. Held my piece long enough... But buy your coffee online people. If there is anything I have nice to say about Barry and Lynn Goldman's company is that their coffee is of excellent quality and is organic. I will say however that some coffees are simply overpriced such as Jamaican Blue Mountain being an absurd $50/lb(and it sucks). This place is just full of weirdos. In my time frame of being there, they have fired 4 chef's. Their current chef is a total ass **** and likes to give uncomfortable talks to customers when they complain. He also can't cook worth a **** the previous people were better. Their food situation is illogical and confusing. On some days... The chef will take the whole day off and no one there can make as something simple as a burger or pasta, its a joke. I know coffee is the main goal and that's fine, but do not market yourself as offering food when your chef simply is allowed to take whatever days off, its inconvenient. The owners also lie and take advantage of people. Barry has lied about "roasting fresh everyday" when in reality he roast about 2 times a week or will leave bagged coffee on the shelf for over a week and call it "fresh" Its enough their food is overpriced, like $6 grilled cheese sandwiches. They also treat their middle aged son like crap and even proclaim it in front of customers. This place is awful don't come here. You can get the same product online. read more

We were going to the Indian Grocery store in the same plaze and had some time to kill, so we went into Coffee Coffee for a late breakfast/early lunch. The Good: The iced coffee was very smooth. The place was bright and airy. It had two futons as couches and was very laid back and casual. The tables are all high tops, and I like that. The Bad: The bathroom is weird. It's a large utility room with a toilet and a long curtain cutting the room in half. Behind the curtain was a large storage area. I literally was worried that there was someone back there; the space was too big for a bathroom, to the point of making me VERY uncomfortable. It was unlike any other coffee shop bathroom. The iced coffee had "coffee ice cubes." They just didn't melt well. The iced coffee mug was small. The UGLY: It took FOREVER to get anything. Water took 5 minutes. Breakfast took 30. They had at least 4 staff on and yet everything was slow, slow, slow. The owner was randomly sitting at a high topped table when we went it, and would interject himself into our conversation. The menu was very small. Not a lot of choices. My bialy was burned. The REALLY UGLY: What kind of coffee shop serves food on paper plates? It's odd and bad for the environment. Plastic Utensils in a COFFEE SHOP? You are supposed to stir your cream in with a plastic spoon? This place might have great coffee, but it's a skip. read more

OK, so after my very disappointing experience with Gemma's in Methuen, I went back to Yelp and found this place. I was hopeful when I saw the organic coffee sign and the decor that spoke coffeehouse to me. My first question was "Do you brew espresso?" The answer was yes, but that they use brewed coffee for their drinks. What? Again? I guess when Dunkin Donuts is the primary example of a coffeehouse, this is what you end up getting... a bunch of indie coffeehouses that think coffeehouses only serve brewed coffee. Ugh. No bueno. I know I'm an outsider from California... but sheesh. I'm very disappointed in the quality of coffeehouse here so far. I know there are some places that do it right... there seem to be a great deal more that do it all wrong. At this point, I'd take a place that brews espresso and doesn't know what they're doing as opposed to a place that makes their espresso drinks without espresso. The service was good and this place does seem to have a good vibe going with open mic nights and that kind of stuff, but if you can't even get the basics of a good mocha or latte right, it's not the kind of coffeehouse I want to go to. read more

I love a good local coffee joint, and I was really excited to try Coffee Coffee after reading the reviews. My experience was much less than satisfactory, but I'm going to give them another try because I can't believe that my experience was typical. I think it must have been the cashier/coffee drink maker's first day working because she had no idea how to do anything. I asked if I could get an iced latte with a raspberry flavor shot, and she looked at me blankly before looking at the other girl working there. This other worker basically guided her step by step through the process of making a drink, and I somehow ended up with a frozen slushy drink that didn't taste like coffee, like raspberry, like anything. I guess I'll just chalk this up to inexperience, but I was expecting so much more.Both ladies were friendly, so I'm not completely crossing Coffee Coffee off my list of coffee places (at least not with a pen). But I didn't even get any of the much hyped coffee ice cubes! :( read more

Strange little place. My friend and I were shopping in Salem and already had dinner but wanted a hot drink and possible a dessert so we found Coffee Coffee on yelp and decided to give it a try. Once inside, we felt that we had stepped in to a community hall vs. a business. There a some high tables, a few couches/futons and a desk with a computer on it...not to mention a counter with baked goods and bins of coffee beans. We made our way to the counter and began reading the white board to figure out what and how to order. They offer brewed coffee, teas, cocoa and specialty coffee drinks. We both decided on the cocoa and a piece of the chocolate-raspberry cake and the 7 layer bar. We ordered and took a seat at the high bar. Our cocoa and desserts were brought to our table. The chocolate-raspberry cake was delicious and fresh. The 7 layer bar was very rich! You eat first, then pay at the counter. A nearby table was eating dinner which looked very good and it appeared to be a place where locals hang out. A pleasant experience but again, a very odd little place. read more

Very strange place. It was not how it looked in the yelp pictures at all. It was dark and looked dingy. There were these big plastic tables that looked like they were meant for a bingo game. The girl taking our order didn't know how to make any of the drinks and kept having to ask other people multiple times then asked me the price. The very few pastries they had were a little hard. They seem to be trying to cover too many bases with pizza signs and lots of foods and I think they would be better off getting really good at a few things. They should look into refurbishing with comfortable seating and games as well. I also didn't find a place to fix my coffee and the trash was difficult to find. This place needs a major makeover and a barista who knows their products. read more

Coffee Coffee is my new favorite spot! Every time I go in I'm greeted with a unique experience and amazing New Orleans inspired dishes. The owner, Barry, and his family run this place. He brews his own coffee and is always ready to greet you with a sincere smile. If you enjoy a great family atmosphere with an amazing take one different dishes I highly recommend it. They have loads going on on a nightly basis; different musical nights like Jazz Night and an Open Mic. I will continue to go back and bring all my friends and family. I wandered in here by accident, visiting a store in the same strip plaza. My 3 year old daughter needed to go potty and I needed an ice coffee so in we went. The place is super clean! The staff is incredibly warm and friendly. The bathroom was nice an clean as well. I ordered a regular ice coffee and was informed that the ice cubes were actually made of coffee, that is AWESOME! My coffee never got watered down and tasted delicious right down to the last sip!!! This place has great potential, offering live music some nights and coffee tasting on others. My only suggestions is to have more bakery items to go with the coffee. I definitely would have offered a yummy treat if available. read more

I was so glad to find this place! I was so bummed when their other location closed (used to be Coffee Roasters in Windham, NH)... but thanks to another review I was able to locate this place. Fantastic coffee and food. They show that they get their beans from all over the world and roast their own beans. There are coffee sacs from all over the world hung up proudly on the walls of the restaurant. You can taste the difference when coffee beans are freshly roasted. I ended up getting three iced coffees on my first visit. Delicious! The coffee ice cubes are a nice touch, and show a lot of thought went into their drink, as it will never water down. I also got the Lox on a plain bagel, which comes with onions, lettuce, capers, cream cheese, and of course, thinly sliced salmon. It was perfect. My friends offered their leftovers to me, one of which was a bialy. I second people in other reviews that they are fantastic! Service was fast. Our waiter was very friendly and catered to our every need. Those who gave this place a negative review really need to give it another try because this place really is a hidden gem. I stopped off at Coffee Coffee on my way back from Manchester to Logan Airport and I am happy that I did. The space is inviting with their large roaster on display for all to see. I will preface this review with the fact that I have turned into a full-fledged coffee snob. What I liked - when the owners, who were sitting amongst the patrons heard me asking a lot of questions about their coffee, they instructed the barista to heat up and aerate my coffee. What needs improvement - I asked the barista which beans were roasted most recently and she answered by saying that everything was brewed fresh this morning. At this point it was about 3:30pm. It was self-serve, like you would see at 7-11. While the Blue Mountain was pretty good - it wasn't over roasted - I would like to see freshly prepared coffee, especially at a place that roasts their own bean - nothing fancy, perhaps a V60 Hario option. I wouldn't doubt that this is the best coffee shop in the area and the quality is far superior to that of D&D or Starbucks. The service was also top notch. Very friendly people. read more

I came here to read and drink coffee. I read their free newspaper over the course of one hour and bought two coffees. The owners were horribly rude. I tried to strike a friendly conversation (being the only customer there and also given the fact that one of the owners was sitting down, I figured they had the time to talk) and the owners were completely uninterested in talking, and were short with me and rude. They close at 8PM. At 7:20, one of the owners told me that they were closing soon and that I should leave. This is a place with couches, free newspapers, I bought two coffees, left money in the tip jar, and tried to have friendly conversation with both owners. I hardly believe that I was overstaying my welcome. This establishment is owned by rude people. I will be taking my business elsewhere.. read more

There is NOTHING better than the smell of a freshley brewed cup of coffee that's been lovingly tended for from the slow-roasting to the trifecta press, and that's what your nose will be greeted with the moment you open the door to Coffee Coffee. There's a lot to say about a hole-in-the-wall cafe that has as much panache and love inside of it that Coffee Coffee does. Art, music, friendly and sociable staff- the place runs the gambit on what every good cafe should have. I love this place. If you thought you liked or knew coffee you didn't unless you came here. The owners and staff are not only super friendly but vastly knowledgeable. This is what coffee should be. Fresh roasted, fresh ground, and from real Arabica Beans. Never should coffee be bitter no matter how dark the roast and never have I had a cup of bitter coffee here. I had began buying my coffee from them when they were in Windham and boy oh boy am I ecstatic to have found their new location. The decor is not quite as cute as it was in Windham but it is a much more convenient location. Much larger too so you can really enjoy watching the roasting happen. The food is always incredible. Just like the coffee it's fresh and robust. Oh and dont forget the hot cocoa. Oh never forget the hot cocoa. Go in and try a cup of coffee but then I recommend branching out. Literally everything I eat at this place is phenomenal. You would never guess you'd find your new favorite place in this small coffee shop, but seriously, it packs huge flavor in all of the dishes. I highly recommend: espresso rubbed baby back ribs with watermelon barbecue sauce. Seriously, the meat is falling off of the bone and the flavors are so complimentary. The chef is also very knowledgable and is always excited to interact with you and let you know whatever you want to know about the dishes and his many awesome experiences. The staff are always friendly and very attentive. They have a theme almost every single night (including scrabble, cooking classes, jazz night and open mic) AND they have iced coffee with coffee ice cubes! Come on now! I just went into this shop for the first time today at the recommendation of a friend and I'm so glad I did!! Love the owners!! So friendly! Had a long conversation with them.. got a latte and a cookie.. fantastic!! My husband got a breakfast sandwich (sausage, egg and cheese on brioche) and a French roast coffee..and loved both too. Everything is hot fresh, delicious and homemade from scratch.. They roast their own coffee right there in front of you! Very knowledgeable owners.. they can tell you the entire history of coffee beans I swear! Vibe of the place is cool and artsy. Lots of local art on the walls and they said they have live music all the time. It's such a hidden jewel!! Oh! And they have trivia nights (one Friday a month) !! Coffee and trivia are two of my favorite things! I'll have to go once the quarantine is lifted. They are doing take out for the time being. You can buy all sorts of baked goods as well as breakfast sandwiches plus lunches (burgers, hotdogs etc) and bags of their coffee of course. I swear They have everything! So disappointed. not only was the iced coffee horrible, the breakfast was even worse. Pancakes were burnt beyond recognition with a side of real maple syrup that wasn't even enough to cover one of the pancakes, then had to pay an extra $1 for another "serving." The egg and bacon on a Bialy was so overcooked, you had to cut the egg with a knife, Not Good. If you can't even cook an egg or a pancake, why bother? They had signs saying the iced coffee had "coffee ice cubes." Ooooh! We asked what kind of muffin was in the case and the "chef" had to come out and tell us it was a cinnamon muffin, and he actually made the statement, " You're not going to believe me, but It goes really good with coffee." Today I went in here (for the 3rd time). Every time I go to this place, the food is worth the wait/frustration. But today annoyed me greatly. the service is always good. The food is always good. But they are always out of some sort of ingredients. I work next door, I know they aren't that busy, it's that they don't give their staff the support. A chef shouldn't have to go out and buy his own groceries. Don't offer omelettes if you can't keep up on ingredients. Like eggs. Peppers. Onions. But the effort, from I assume a manager/owner, isn't there. Every time I go in, the owners are sitting there drinking coffee like they're a patron. That's fine if you're established and running efficiently. But they don't and they aren't. Give your staff the support they need and you'll be successful. We (attempt to) eat there, we order at 11:15. At 11:50, I had to go to work. Still no Food. Because whoever stocks the kitchen doesn't even buy eggs for their chef. The Chef had to go out and buy eggs himself. Owners are no where to be found. I hear the chef quietly and professionally commenting to another person saying "It's normal to run out of peppers or onions or something but eggs are a main ingredient we should always have eggs!" I agree. We ordered two omelets and it was almost an hour before we got them. We were the only people who ordered food in the place, and there was only one other patron who ordered a coffee. So my fiance had to sit there and wait for the food, while I had to walk to work. I got to work just on time, and had to eat my food cold after helping a customer when we opened. It was still delicious! But I was starving and had to wolf it down to help other customers after the first one. So I got to enjoy it for 5 minutes. And while we're at it, if you're brewing a hot coffee and I ask for coffee over ice...don't put 6 ice cubes in there, fill the cup with ice and pour coffee over it. Even if they are "coffee ice cubes", it just dilutes and ruins the coffee if you don't put enough ice cubes in there to cool down the coffee. I ended up with a lukewarm coffee with melted ice. They still seem to do everything sort of half-assed here. I have yet to get a decent cup of coffee at this place and I LOVE COFFEE. It's weak. read more
