Let me star by saying I have low standards and this place was horrible. I literally can't think of single positive thing to say. I got the corned beef hash. It was seriously over cooked and crispy. It tasted like they used an entire stick of butter on it. My friend got eggs Benedict and the hollandaise sauce was watery. We saw a server (not ours) walking by with coffee and asked for a refill, you'd of thought I asked for her first born child. I didn't know a coffee refill could be so taxing. Our hostesses did more for us than our server. The hostess got us our drinks and ran the credit card. I thought of one positive thing, the server had pretty makeup. I think she spent all her time fixing it in the bathroom because we didn't see her much. I wouldn't eat here again even if you paid me. It was that bad. read more

First off the service was excellent. The food not so much. I got a meat lovers scramble. What was suppose to be a combo of 3 meats was primarily ham. There was an over abundance of onions that would not have been bad except they were raw. The tavern fries were also under cook I like my pasta to be al dente not my potatoes. Enjoyed the Country Fried Steak! Tender, moist and pretty awesome is how I would describe it. The gravy, well, it's just like grandma used to make! Full flavored and will probably clog your arteries! Have got to say some of the worst service, placed order for drinks as soon as we sat down as well as the order for a salad . 20 mins later I asked if the drink had been made only to find out that it hadn't been started I cancel the order for the drink due to the long wait . Also I ask for our salad to be to go. The entire time my wife and I had been sitting we only saw our server 2 times one to place the order for the water , drinks ,and a salad . The second time we got our waters and tried to place our order but the server walked away before we could say anything . Very upsetting it took about 7 mins to be initially approached . I understand if it's busy but at this time there's about 10 tables all with servers attending to them in a timely manner it's very upsetting to receive serve of this quality. She did pay for our salad at the end and apologized so I changed it to two stars but it was still a bad experience. We won't be back. read more

Cody's is a perfect family place to go for breakfast. The location has great parking for easy access, and its free unlike locations downtown. Good coffee and breakfast. We've been here quite a few times and will be back again! For people writing harsh reviews of this place... its a diner folks. I'm from out of town, and my friend and I were hungry, and after a night of mayo-fueled coma at Pea Soup Andersen's, we were feeling like anything with a vegetable in it. We were cruising down Hollister and saw this nondescript building named Cody's Cafe, so we figured, why not? As we drove up, the windows seemed shut and we weren't even sure if it was still in business, but luckily it was, and we went inside. I ordered the Oriental Chicken Salad. Now, I don't normally order salads, but let me say mine was one of the best salads I've had. No soft/soggy/wilted salad, and everything tasted very fresh. Plus the garlic bread that was served with the salad was fantastic. My friend said her Grilled Vegetable Salad was one of the best salads she'd ever had. Now, this could have been because we were still hung over from our mayo overload and anything green would have tasted good, but I had a couple of veggies from her salad, and I had to agree, it was tasty. She didn't even need to use any dressing because the juices from the vegetables were flavorful enough. She loved it so much in fact, that she wants to come back here tomorrow for lunch on our drive back to L.A., and I think we'll do just that. On a side note, our waitress was very friendly and extremely attentive. I guess YMMV when it comes to waitstaff, but I find it a bit unfair to leave a restaurant a 1 star review if the food is good but the service is terrible. read more

I went to Cody's Cafe with a co worker for brunch. It had a really nice diner feel to it. I miss places like these because they are being replaced with Denny's and IHOPs. I usually don't like ordering breakfast items, so instead I ordered the Turkey Santa Fe sandwich with a side salad and fries. The sandwich was grilled and the cheese was melted. It was nice because the jalapeno added the right amount of flavor to an ordinary turkey and cheese melt. The jack cheese complimented the jalapeno as well and who could forget the sourdough. Seriously, sourdough is like the king of sandwich bread. It has such a distinct taste that far different from whole wheat or white bread. I did not have high expectations of this place, but I was satisfied and the portions were great. I loved the french fries because they were golden brown and crispy. A side of ketchup helps any side of fries, which didn't hurt. I had a great meal and our lemonades were kept full during our meals. This place is very underrated. I will definitely be back. Cody's Cafe was just all right. I enjoyed their fish and chips, and it really hits the spots in terms of flavor, texture, and overall enjoyability. On the other hand, the calamari was disgusting: it felt like rubber and tasted nothing like calamari. In all, this meal consisted of a sad appetizer and a decent entree. This place does solid food at extremely reasonable prices. The steak I had was excellent and the fries brilliant, although the vegetables perhaps left a little to be desired (they were a bit bland, I thought). The range of drinks was pretty good, with a nice selection of beers and a wine list that I didn't really spend much time with. My only criticism would be that it didn't appear that the table at which we sat had been properly prepared to receive us, there were crumbs on the seats and only one set of cutlery, napkin and sideplate. Also, it took a little while to be seen by our waitress, but given that she was serving other people it seems a little unreasonable to complain about that. All in all, if I was eating on a budget I wouldn't hesitate to return here, but if I had the money to go a little more expensive I think I'd cast my net slightly wider. I had a sorta weird experience here. I came in with my family. I ordered the 'Yaters Sandwich' and there was one thing specially asked to not include on the sandwich (tomato) and one thing I specifically asked to replace (no French fries and instead a side Caesar) and while I added those things the waitress just stared at me like she was annoyed. When the food came (service was fast) it was served by the Manager (or what looked like the manager). Um were the waitresses and waiters too lazy to come serve it themselves? Came here on a Sunday night and it was about what I would expect: service was a little off (asked for silverware a couple times), food wasn't quite right (turkey burger was undercooked and left me with anxiety about salmonella afterwards). To their credit, they took back the turkey burger and did everything to make me happy, so I appreciated that. Highlights: their turkey club is really good, above average....the key is the thick sliced home roasted turkey, bacon which is super crisp, and the wheat toast is nicely toasted. My mom likes the pot roast and gets it every time. Driven by this place a lot and wasn't sure what it's story was, I had thought it was a dive. I was looking for a place to bring the kids in Goleta and a friend said suggested Cody's, said it was owned by the same people as Mesa Cafe which I enjoy, so I gave it a shot. I had 3 goals: Somewhere I could bring kids to, somewhere that wasn't too pricey, and somewhere I could sneak a little MNF in. Mission Accomplished. Was actually able to communicate with them over Facebook messages, asked if they had the game on, if it was kid friendly. They said yes and when I arrived they had reserved a table for me that was great for my kids and for my game watching. Now it's not really a game watching place which is great, I hate places with tons of TV, but they have two bars (which is awesome because one is adults only) and you could see the TV in the bar in the dining room if you were in the right spot. However if you don't want a TV the majority of seating is perfect. They have a lot of booths which is great, because booth seating pretty much wins everytime. So besides being stoked their customer service was so good, I was stoked on the Taco Monday deal: two tacos and a small caesar salad, rice AND a margarita for under $12. I was in heaven. The kids split the kiddie pasta and the whole deal was $22 before tip. The food was pretty good and good sized portions. I'm going to add this to the rotation of places to go, it is a nice spot. read more

Excellent place for breakfast and lunch. Never been here for dinner but i'm sure it's just as good as the earlier times in the day. I've been here several times and the omelets are excellent. Nice and stuffed with what they advertise on their menu. The french toast is really good too. Parking is never a problem. The waiters are very friendly and helpful. They frequently come by the table to make sure everything is ok and to refill drinks. Imagine a Denny's, but waaay better. Honestly I showed up and there was a 20 minute wait, which was understandable. I mean it is Sunday and I did show up for brunch. I sat down, ordered my drink and food and waited another 20 minutes for food. I ordered a Santa Barbara omelette with tri tip which came with a hash-brown and biscuit, I also asked for a water. The whole time I was there my water was never refilled. My omelette had NO flavor, no salt and was dripping in sauce. My hash brows again had no salt and became mushy with the sauce. I could barely eat any. Moving on to my biscuit, it was SO DRY. No amount of butter could make it edible. Let's total the bad food with bad service and bad weather, which is not the restaurants fault, I will NOT eat here again. Here's a tip Cody, pay your servers more so they can serve us more. Every Sunday morning like clock work. That is how much I enjoy this resturant. Good value for your money, quality service and food. It starts with Martine seating you and being friendly and kind. The staff works well with each other. Martine would ask what we wanted to drink, a minute later some one different brings them to you. All the servers are friendly and they back each other up on getting the food to you once it is ready. And the 100 plus times I have eaten there, I have never had a bad meal. We also go for lunch and dinner and find it to be a great family location for birthday meals since their menu seems to have something for everone. Only down side is that so many others know about this place, you have to some times wait for 5 to 10 minutes for a table. It's more then worth it though. read more

Good breakfast. All the plates we ordered were large portions, they don't skimp. The chorizo and egg plate is the real thing, very good. Chicken-fried steak was good and I liked it, but not different than any number of other reliable breakfast spots. If I were in the area again I'd return for breakfast, or maybe not. It's the kind of place you go for a filling, tasty breakfast if you are nearby but not the kind of place you plan a trip around.
