We came here on a Saturday at 11:30 with a reservation. It seems like we needed one because we were asked about it, but it was not full. Katie (I think that was her name!) was our server and she was lovely. She was attentive and very friendly. The ambiance of this place is great. Think chic, tropical, rooftop and you've nailed it. We tried a few cocktails, which were all excellent. The menu is limited, which is my only complaint. I also wish their shares menu was available all day on the weekends so that you weren't stuck with just the brunch menu, which is heavy breakfast. However, we did try the chilaquiles and the burger. Went here for brunch and it was very underwhelming. The service staff was friendly and worked hard, but the food was NOT GOOD. The brunch menu only had about 6 items to choose from, and they were out of the açaí bowl. We ended up getting the breakfast sandwich and the burger. The $15 breakfast sandwich was just scrambled eggs on a burger bun with a slice of cheese and a slice of bacon. It came with breakfast potatoes, which were super dry and tasted like cardboard. I asked for ketchup but was told they don't have any. No ketchup at a restaurant?!? Next, the $19 burger was a very dry and over cooked patty, which melted cheese and house sauce (which was basically just ketchup which they told me they didn't have!). They forgot the "grilled onions" - which ended up being cooked red onions. The coffee was very diluted with water, essentially "coffee flavored water", very bad. Several members of our party also waited an hour for their food. When we were leaving, we noticed the kitchen was the size of an elevator with 1 person working in it... so that explains it. I didn't drink but the cocktails looked pretty good. So all in all, I would only recommend going here for drinks, not food. Crazy to me that they continue to serve that food to people. read more

Went back to Cococabana to check out their new taco Tuesday and it was so nice to sit on the roof on a sunny day, listening to the live dj (who was playing great music) . They do not serve their normal menu during taco Tuesday but the prices were definitely more reasonable. I got a shrimp taco and a jerk chicken taco and both were very tasty (I ordered them plain with just cheese and cilantro as i don't eat onions - in case you see the pic and wonder why so plain lol). My husband got the 3 taco plate with jerk chicken. Margaritas were delicious. Also tried the coconut beer and the tropical beer and they were very good. Shot of the day for 5 bucks, shot and a beer for 9.... Hard to go wrong with that! Service was very good. We will definitely be back. As a traveling artisan and educator, I like to feel welcomed where ever I go... and I have to say the Cococabana in Oceanside did just that, primarily because of the wonderful Amy, the bartender/host. In these days of horrible customer service this was a welcome change, it was first rate service!! It was a chill and chilly Tuesday evening but the drinks, food and company made me feel almost like I was back home - or even better! I am giving this place 2 stars because of the views & good tasting / strong cocktails. I had a reservation for 5 for brunch @ 11am on a Saturday. The lady downstairs (Q&A Oyster) asked if we had reservations, and instructed us to go up to 4th floor. When we got there, the staff looked at us but no one said hello or good morning, or "Be with you in a moment!". We stood there awkwardly for about 5mins with ppl just passing us by, and so I decided to just seat ourselves, and helped ourselves move some chairs to have enough for 5. Finally, the server comes and shows us one page of brunch menu, telling us "This is all we are serving right now." Do NOT go here for brunch! Slow service, VERY limited menu, and NO COFFEE! Why serve brunch and no coffee?!? When we asked about this, the server said, "Well, downstairs they sell coffee so you can go there and order." Ok.... Thanks? Would be best to maybe partner w/downstairs so you can serve your customers coffee. The place was not packed at all but the server did not check on us, we did need lots of things (water refill, utensils, etc). Did not offer anything else after serving the dishes ("Would you like some ketchup with your order?" Or, "is there anything else I can get you?") While we enjoyed the view and still had a great time despite the terrible food, I would not recommend this place for brunch. When we walked in, we went to the bar and were met by a man (who didn't work there) who told us it was a private party and to move down to the other side of the bar so our drinks weren't on his tab. No where did it say there was a private party going on. We just wanted a drink at the bar and we would have done it on our tab. We didn't argue even though there were empty seats at the bar we could sit at and we went to the other side of the bar. There wasn't any space and there were only reserved tables so we left, which felt super disappointing. We weren't greeted by anyone working there either. There should be signs that the rooftop is reserved for a private party or the employees should let us know. This isn't a place you should go to for a quick drink. My husband thoughtfully booked a table at Q&A downstairs for our wedding anniversary. However, our excitement for a wonderful and rare night out for us quickly turned to frustration upon arrival. During making the reservation, no one bothered to mention the Mardi Gras party happening that evening. Instead of the intimate dinner we had hoped for, we were handed wristbands, told it was an "unusual" night, and directed upstairs to Cococabana instead. Disappointed but willing to make the best of it, we decided to grab a drink and a snack before seeking dinner elsewhere. However, our disappointment only grew from there. When I inquired at the bar about seating, the bartender seemed annoyed and waved us off, indicating we could sit anywhere. Despite several staff members milling about, chatting loudly and it all feeling very unprofessional - no one acknowledged our presence or offered assistance. After 15 minutes of waiting for service and perusing a menu we had to fetch ourselves, we decided to leave. It was a double blow on what was supposed to be a special evening for us. While we appreciated the rooftop view and sunset, we couldn't ignore the exorbitant prices for drinks and bar food, especially considering similar options nearby. And to add insult to injury, the menu sneakily tacks on a 5% "living wage" charge in minuscule font. Like - seriously...for the prices you're charging, just pay your staff properly!!! Chicken tenders for $19? It's hard to believe they must anything short of extraordinary. There are MANY other incredible establishments locally that are much more deserving of your patronage. I loved everything about this place!! I know there have been other reviews about the food size / taste, but we (a group of 6) had absolutely the BEST dinner. Yes, it's a bit pricy, yes the portions are tapas-sized, but if you accept that and move on- it's a wonderful & unique experience in Oceanside. Drinks were fast and the service was really good / our server was super knowledgeable about the menu and food even though they're new. Going with a group was perfect because you can try most of the menu (which we did!). Standouts were the oysters, the mushroom dish, the steak with the creamy peppery sauce (I still think about it...), and the curry clams for me. Other friends loved the confit duck dish. My wife's birthday fell on a Saturday and with the recent opening of Cococabana, this place looked like the ideal option to eat dinner, so I made reservations three weeks in advance....UNTIL I read the reviews on Yelp. Most mentioned how overpriced and small the food was. The menu is also limited to just ten options - so it was becoming clear to me that maybe we should eat dinner somewhere else and come here for drinks after? I made reservations for The Lab Collaborative nearby...another new-ish restaurant with amazing reviews. We had an awesome dinner there no doubt and I knew I made the right choice. Afterward, we strolled up to Cococabana to meet my 8pm Saturday night reservations. I was expecting it to be packed, but it wasn't too bad. We arrived early, cutting through the Q&A Restaurant and Oyster Bar downstairs (which just opened for the first time this weekend) to get to the elevator that takes us to the rooftop. At first our table was not ready, but a mere few minutes later it was so we actually got seated early. Although our table was right next to the elevator and waiting area, I actually loved all the people-watching I could do! So many people and employees crossing through this way and that...checking out the views, ordering drinks. It's a total scene. At night it's beautiful up here and you can see most of downtown Oceanside. The weather was PERFECT at 8pm...kinda chilly actually (and it's AUGUST people - we really do live in the best city on the planet when it comes to weather). Our wives remembered to bring sweaters so we were good to go. Since we had already eaten, we were here mostly for the cocktails, but I did order the Charred Cauliflower as many of the reviews mentioned how good it was...and damn, now I see why. The dish is small but the four of us managed to split it and we all loved it...like LOVED it. Sooo good and a must try. The drinks were all tasty...we ordered nearly all of them on the menu including the giant golden flamingo drink. That one was like $40 but with the four straws we downed it pretty quickly. The straws were a bit long which made sharing kind of messy but it was a great option for us. The Caribe Welcome comes in a fresh coconut which was an awesome experience (you can eat it if you want)...a definite must try. All the drinks were good. Not very strong but it did the trick. I think we ended up spending a little over $200 total for all the drinks and the cauliflower. But it was a birthday night so the bill mattered little (one note: I didn't get a paper receipt afterwards...which I would have liked). I would absolutely like to come back and grab a different cocktail and just enjoy the view. It's a great new option for the ever expanding downtown Oceanside food scene. read more

This rooftop bar took me straight back to Miami. It has a very trendy ambiance with awesome ocean views. We made a reservation for Thursday evening at 8:45 and we were able to get in earlier around 8:15 which was very nice of them. We sat in the table area away from the bar. I ordered the gin lychee drink and it was okay. Then I tried a cab and it was subpar. My friend got the Thirst Trap and I'd say that was our favorite drink out of the 3 cocktails we tried. The others were a bit too sweet. All the cocktails here are also pretty pricey. We tried the mushroom and egg dish that they bring to everyone and it was delicious. We had just come from dinner, otherwise we would've tried the food. Our waitress Andre was very attentive and sweet but I think she charged me for more than what I had ordered. I didn't say anything in the moment because a huge party had just come in and I could tell she was getting busy but I should've mentioned it. Overall, it's definitely a hyped up new spot and I would maybe come back again to try the brunch. read more

It's the location, view, and the Instagram drinks that will bring you here. The vibe is cute- I loved seeing a lot of people dressed specifically to come here (cute tropical shirt and bright colors.) We had reservations and due to an issue we weren't seated until 20 mins after our reservation- then waited another 10 minutes for a server to get to our table (because I asked where she was.) Hostess was great with customer service. I understood the scenario as to why it took so long to get us seated, and you can except hiccups as they just opened. My issue was, once seated, that after knowing we waited long for our reserved table, I had to ask where our server was (to at least bring us water bc it was hot!) Then when the server arrived, didn't really acknowledge that we waited practically 30 minutes (10 of those minutes waiting at the table to be acknowledged) At a typical restaurant, sometimes they will bring free appetizers or a drink, or a discount to say sorry about the wait or experience, but I couldn't picture that happening here. The drinks were very overpriced as well as the food. I looked at photos of the food portions and they are pretty small for the price so we decided not to eat here. I got the Havana Good Time cocktail which is a whopping $30 and comes in a giant flamingo (the Instagram worthy drink people will "flock" here for) It is a drink that is meant to be shareable- "vodka, cucumber lemon cordial, Pamplemousse, pomegranate kombucha" I drank it BY MYSELF and for someone who rarely drinks, I felt absolutely nothing. I don't think any vodka was in it at all to be honest. Not a little buzz, nothing, I felt absolutely normal. So I thought maybe it would creep on me in 30 mins? An hour? Nope. Very overpriced and you won't feel a thing. They will get people by the presentation but if you are actually looking to get a drink for a buzz or to feel anything, this isn't it.... Perhaps it's better to come here later at night on a weekend to grab a beer and listen to the dj? I saw a DJ booth so it's definitely in the plans for a Dj which sounds fun! I love the addition to Oceanside, but unfortunately they will price a lot of locals out, and I don't see it to be somewhere people will return to. This review is for the atmosphere & cocktails only - we didn't get a chance to dine this time around. We arrived without reservations around 6pm on a Saturday and were lucky enough to be able to go straight upstairs to the bar. The rooftop was POPPIN' with several groups of 20-somethings dressed to the nines for their Saturday night out, friends and couples hanging out at the bar and lining the railing and groups dining in the far corner. Someone else said in their review that Cococabana has a Miami vibe and I couldn't agree more. It was definitely packed, with not a whole lot of standing room to be seen but my husband and I snagged a corner to ourselves. We ordered a couple cocktails from the bar - I had a Miami Pound Machine (tequila reposado, passion fruit, orgeat, lime, saffron bitters, rum float) and my husband got the Caribe Welcome (rum blend, coconut water, apricot brandy, coconut cream, coconut water, lime). The presentation of both drinks was fun - his came in a coconut stamped with their logo and mine was in a tall, slim glass with a leafy garnish. While the drinks were really good-looking, I found mine to be incredibly citrus-forward and bitter, and didn't really enjoy it at all. My husband was seemingly happy with his coconut drink. We finished our drinks and closed out to make it to our dinner reservation down the block. I would consider a round 2 at Cococabana, but this time with reservations to dine so we could try the food and have somewhere to sit comfortably to really enjoy the space. The location is unbeatable and the styling that went into the space makes for a fun experience, so I have no doubt they'll be successful. read more

Noticed this new rooftop bar in Oceanside over the weekend. Did a walk in around 12:30pm and we were able to get seated at a bar area with full sun. It was roasting hot there unfortunately so we only had one drink before we left. Cocktails were good. Service was good. We didn't try any food. The rooftop is definitely a bit cramped. Often there are walkways where only one person can squeeze by. They have these cute bronze flamingos you can get a giant punch bowl out of. I noticed that some of the drinks were different on one menu from another. For example, one menu said that the "thirst trap" cocktail had lillet and Prosecco, but another one had fiero and cava. Small differences, but a bit confusing. read more

It is a nice edition to downtown Oceanside. The drinks are excellent. The food however is not. The oysters were bland and just okay at best. If you've had a good charbroiled oyster in New Orleans or elsewhere you will be terribly disappointed with the option here. The "wagyu" was outright disgusting. It was over cooked, tough, not seasoned and one hundred percent not wagyu. At best it was a New York strip because the fat content was not even remotely close enough to be passed off as wagyu but nice try not to mention the price point for some of these small plates is crazy for how subpar the taste is and how small the portions are. The plates are super small and serve 1 person max. Even the brunch portions are small if you were thinking about those options. At best this is somewhere you come for a snack but not somewhere you will leave full. Brunch also stops at 1pm so keep that in mind when booking. Open table wasn't the most clear with the table differences so: The counter: a wrap around small counter type seat that is around the bar. The counter is maybe a foot wide but looks over the restaurant and gives a nice view. The bar: exactly what you think Standard seating: could be a table or a cozy couch or a booth set up. I struggled with the rating- I think ultimately I settled on 3 just because the food was so expensive for what it was. We got literally 2 pieces of shrimp for $30. You can't eat the head so you literally get a normal size shrimp each for $15. That's just wild. Our $40 steak was ok. $17 Cauliflower was missing something. In general our food was also kind of just thrown together quickly and the presentation wasn't there. I ended up eating when I came home after spending at least $100 on food. I honestly want this new business to thrive but in order for it to get to its full potential I have to give my honest opinion and sadly our overall experience was not great. Firstly, my wife made our reservation for 12p on Saturday (30 Sep). We arrived early (11:50ish) and waited for the doors to open. 12p came and went so we started to call to ensure that they were in fact open, no answer. Two to three other groups of people were now waiting along with us waiting to enter as well. A random couple who were staying at the Brick Hotel used the key pad to enter so we all followed behind and headed up to the rooftop. As we got to the rooftop one of the hostess asked us to go back down stairs to wait. Everyone one who was waiting were understandably a bit annoyed. As we all got back down stairs the staff sets up a hostess in the downstairs lobby/bar area. The hostess is doing mic checks on her radio then finally starts accommodating the guests and our reservations (12:15-12:20ish). Once checked in, we head to the elevator to head up to the rooftop where another hostess validates our reservation (redundant) then seats us. Even though we had a reservation we chose to sit at the bar. The aesthetic of the rooftop was awesome. Great views, nice breeze, and great visual ambience. The staff seemed to be a bit disorganized (understandable being that it was a new establishment), they definitely could have benefited from doing some 'dry runs' or 'walkthroughs' to get the servers and bartenders reps to lessen some of the friction/confusion. Bartenders were super nice and did well making the drinks listed on the menu. The wife had the Miami Pound Machine and the Swedish Bikini Team; both well made, tasty and refreshing. We only ordered one item from the food menu because the one thing we had was pretty disappointing. Pulpo Ceviche. The octopus was very dry and tasted like it was overly seasoned with thyme. The mango pico situation tasted old and dry as if it had been sitting out in the open for a while. This place has the potential to be a phenomenal addition to the Oceanside area and we really hope it gets there! read more
