Everybody complains that dining out is so expensive today (myself included). While I can't say that Coco Shrimp is bucking that trend, what I can say is that, at least if you're going to spend the money, you'll likely get a great, satisfying meal in a fun atmosphere. That's a win in my book. My wife has dined at other Coco Shrimp locations, but it was our first time at this location. The place is nicely decorated, looking like a kitchy joint you'd find in the Caribbean, and the staff was very pleasant. It's quick casual, order at the counter from the easy to read and not too fussy menu, and the staff will bring your food to your table. I chose the sampler plate, which nets seven very generously sized shrimp atop a bed of buttery rice and a small salad. The greens were fresh, the rice was toasty and buttery as promised, and those shrimp: Yum! I selected spicy (definitely on the warm side), butter garlic (wonderful butter garlic sauce with herbs) and the namesake Coco shrimp (crispy fried with coconut flakes and sweet chili sauce), and all were fantastic. First time was the one near Keller and that was about 6 years ago. Recall it was good and buttery rice, but just never been back as I don't frequent that part of town as much now that my kids don't play soccer. Last weekend while shopping in Frisco, we ended up here afterwards. As before, the food is spot on. Surprisingly, it's not so much the shrimp but more the butter flavored rice that's light and fluffy with a hint of sweetness. Either way, it was good as it does reminded me of the various shrimp trucks in Hawaii, which we'll be going next week. But for Texas, this is a solid 4 stars. We initially wanted to try Hopdaddy in the same area, but we decided not to. Instead, we went to Coco Shrimp. It's all shrimp with rice and salad(poppyseed or ginger dressing). We weren't sure, so we tried garlic butter and lemon herb and I added Avocado for $1 and 2 drinks. The salad came with Craisins which I don't like, so I put all that in PB's salad. To me, Craisins on the salad is as bad as raisins on potato salad. You order and pay and they bring your food out. You get your own drinks. I personally like establishments where you get seated and the server takes your order. The food was ok. I think it's Hawaiian concept, but if it was, they should offer macaroni salad/potato salad. The person at the cash register was very friendly and helpful, bc the menu was kind of confusing. We asked the fellow diners about what's good to eat here and they recommended garlic butter and lemon herb and that's what we got. PB was very hungry, so I gave him 5 of my shrimp(I ate one and ate the salad, Ginger dressing was good. He wanted to go next door to Lazy Dog to eat afterwards, but he got full from eating 11 shrimp, so he didn't have to. This place is small, but plenty of booths and tables with Island decors. We haven't been here in a long time so we finally came for lunch a few days ago. I ordered their garlic butter platter and my husband got their spicy shrimp platter. Each plate comes with rice, salad and 6 pieces of shrimp. Whatever they put on their rice is sooo good and addicting. They have 3 different flavors of salad dressing: poppyseed, ginger (my favorite), and cilantro lime (new). Their shrimp is pretty big and seasoned really well. Sometimes it's a bit salty, but once you mix it really well with the rice, it tastes delicious! Love the interior! Very colorful and lots of plants! And for my salad dressing I got something with poppy, I don't remember the full name. After ordering my husband went up to order a drink and the lady told him that she forgot to tell him that he could add on a shrimp taco for just $3.50 when you order the meal with 7 shrimp so she honored it and he got a shrimp taco also. Great food at a great price. I don't even like coconut shrimp, but there are a variety of flavors to choose from including shrimp not fried with coconut, I especially recommend the spicy sauce. The side salad is simple and refreshing. The rice is very well seasoned, dripping with butter and leftover sauce. The portions are quite large, I usually go home with another meal. If you get a drink cup, it's reusable and you only have to pay $1 for a refill whenever you come back. Everyone in my group ordered different sampler plates, so I basically got to try all of their shrimp flavors. My favorites were the Sweet & Spicy and Spicy Shrimp, both of which I had ordered. (Side note: they're not that spicy, so don't be concerned by their names.) The Lemon Herb was delicious as well, and that was the third flavor I ordered in my sampler plate. I also tried the creamy ginger dressing and poppy seed vinaigrette, drizzling a bit of both on top of the rice and salad in my plate. There's a lot of surf decor around the restaurant. The environment is chill, and the workers are friendly. You order at the front counter, then they will bring out your food to your table once it's ready. I wasn't a big fan of their drinks; they were too diluted for me. Also, their plate sizes are pretty big but I wish there was a greater ratio of salad to rice base since practically 3/4th of my plate was rice and it felt heavy. read more

We also each got a taco as recommended by the cashier. We went with all rice instead of the rice + salad so I can't speak to the salad/dressings. Apparently these tacos have won awards - and that's no surprise. Great combination of flavors with the shrimp, sauce, dressing and the crispy lettuce with the soft tortilla just ties it all together. The white rice with garlic butter sauce was the perfect base for the shrimp. Both the coco and spicy were delicious, though the spicy was pretty mild for my taste. Staff was super friendly and attentive. It's clear that they genuinely care about making sure that customers are happy with their food. There's a good amount of indoor seating as well as a few larger tables on the patio. The decor leans into the Hawaiian theme. I have a high spicy tolerance. It is probably acceptable for most people. But I liked the garlic shrimp best. They were garlicky and buttery. All the shrimp were so fresh and decent in size. You wouldn't go wrong with any flavors. Almost forgot about the supporting stars: salad and rice that came with the order. The salad was fine. The rice was moist and buttery, much better than steamed white rice. And the rice portion was unusually generous! The food came in a nice paper box.
