Absolutely love this bed and breakfast. In the middle of it all in Key West but far enough that is nice and quiet at night. Victor and his associate run this place immaculately. The little details they put into each Room And amenities are incredible. Set cleaning service daily they provide complimentary breakfast which is very delicious. The pool is heated for a nice dip at any time it is open 24 hours. I highly recommend to stay here when you are in Key West. It is within walking distance of the ampitheatre and all the bars on Duval street but it is far enough that you don't hear a sound. I highly recommend to stay here when you are in Key West. This place was a lovely getaway and extremely affordable considering its perfect location a block off of the center of Duval Street. The pluses include a beautifully maintained courtyard and pool area with all manner of palms and tropical plants that are very well cared for, and a pool that manages that Goldilocks just right magic of being refreshingly cool during the day and almost bath water warm at night. Whatever temperature you're looking for it to be, it is. So many hotel pools and the keys aren't heated at all, which they really need to be in order to be comfortable in the winter season, and others are overly hot so they aren't comfortable during the daytime. This one is perfect, and azure blue. La! I found the bed extremely comfortable and the room very well kept and clean, although I can see where many travelers would find it cramped. We wound up in room 13, which I think probably offers the quietest location within the complex as well as a slightly more sizable room than some of the others. My husband found the noise from the neighboring pub distracting when trying to fall asleep, but I thought the room was incredibly well soundproofed considering the amount of hustle and bustle in this busy tourist area. You will also hear airplanes taking off and landing here, but you also hear them everywhere elseon the island, and with the window air conditioning unit on high fan at all times I found the city noise was almost entirely drowned out. The ceiling fan, however, was unbalanced and when we had the repair person come look at it he said it's fine, which is certainly wasn't. My only disappointment in our visit was that the breakfast that were included were pretty meh. I've been spoiled on staying at b&B's where the breakfast was a huge part of the experience, and here I felt like every single breakfast we had I could have made much better at home. Especially in Key West where there are three creperies within a 3 minute walk of each other, the breakfast game is strong, so when you aren't bringing your a game it really shows. The manager of the facility and most of the staff were incredibly friendly and seemed to truly enjoy and take pride in their work, which made our experience extra enjoyable. We also enjoyed chatting with fellow guests in the charming breakfast nook and comfy poolside seats. We stayed here for four nights and stayed at the far more expensive Southernmost Beach Resort for one night during our recent visit, then spent a week with friends who live in the area. The room was much larger at Southernmost, but much more problematic and less painstakingly cleaned, and radically less soundproofed than our room here. On a future visit we would stay two extra nights here for the same price.

LOVE this bed and SO comfortable

I absolutely loved this bed and breakfast. This is the perfect place to stay because it is so close to everything. First of all, you have a liquor store and one of the best bars, the Green Parrot, right next door. Literally. Around the corner is the bike rental place for you to trek around instead of walking. Talk about convenient! When we arrived, we walked into the front office where we were greeted by the young man that runs the place. Super nice and very helpful. He's actually the one that told us about the bike rental. He showed us around the property and to our room. The pool is open 24/7, which was something that I liked. No time restrictions. If you need towels and sunscreen, it's there along with chairs and an ice machine. The pool was always clean with big enough chairs to get a good tan. Our room was at the very front and spacious. The bed itself was absolutely beautiful. If I could, I would have bought the headboard and frame. This bed was so comfortable. This room had a coffee machine with pods and a small fridge. My only ONE issue that I had on this room was the shower. Every time one of us showered, the entire outside area was getting wet. They need to put some sort of glass on the top to keep water from spraying to the outside. We were always using up our towels to wipe up the water. I also had to move the toilet paper and tissue because that also was getting wet. No bueno. Also, if you want room service, this has to be requested EVERY DAY you are there or they will not come and clean up or give fresh towels. Make sure to tell the guy in the front office the night before or in the morning before you head out for the day. Now normally this place will have breakfast served for their guests, but because of Covid, they gave $5 gift cards for each guest to use at the Cuban Coffee Queen. YES YES YES! We loved the breakfast sandwiches and their coffee. We had no complaints hopping on our bikes and heading over there in the mornings. We will definitely recommend this quiet bed and breakfast to anyone and WE WILL be back to this place.

Definitely have to say that probably be top bed-and-breakfast I have ever stayed in. I have been to Key West over 40 times in my lifetime I never had the opportunity to stay at such a wonderful and amazing resort. Victor the property manager/owner is Ace absolute pleasure to deal with always with a smile and willing to do anything and everything to make her stay above and beyond amazing. This is somewhere I will definitely visit back again and love to spend more time here.

They really make you feel at home here! Charming grounds, comfortable rooms and wonderful breakfast :) close to all the fun of key west!! A little pricier than some of the other nearby b&b's but well worth it!

Is this an adult only BnB? Is the pool clothing optional or topless permitted?

I would say it is an adult only B@B and no you need to wear clothing at the pool.

The Mermaid & The Alligator is hands-down the best bed-and-breakfast in Key West, and honestly, you'll wish you never had to leave. Housed in a 1904 Victorian mansion right in the heart of Old Town, this independently owned gem has the kind of charm chain hotels only pretend to have. Think wraparound porches, lush tropical gardens, orchids dangling from banyan trees, and a vibe so tranquil you half expect Hemingway to stroll through with a daiquiri. The rooms? Gorgeous. Each one feels personal, with Caribbean-inspired decor, canopy beds, and soft linens that make it way too easy to "accidentally" sleep through your Duval Street plans. Outside, the gardens are pure Key West magic: fountains trickle, palms sway, and yes -- the occasional rooster might strut by like it owns the place. Breakfast here is its own event: fresh tropical fruit, homemade pastries, quiches, and strong coffee served in the garden. It's the kind of peaceful start that makes you consider selling everything, moving here, and writing your memoirs. And because it's independently owned, the hospitality feels personal -- warm, genuine, and full of little touches that make you feel less like a guest and more like a friend who lucked into paradise. The Mermaid & The Alligator isn't just a stay; it's a love letter to Key West itself. Come for the charm, stay for the breakfast, and leave plotting how to "accidentally" extend your trip.

We booked this establishment months in advance, which is probably necessary, as we wanted a premium and quiet room. Arrival was easy. Of note, unlike most establishments in Key West, they have a dedicated and paved adjacent parking lot. As we arrived just a little later than planned due to plenty of rain on our route, the Inn called and checked our arrival time and kept afternoon snacks and drinks available. We were walked to our room after an easy check in and shown the highlights of our room. A basic, but premium , continental serve yourself breakfast was provided every morning. Also, every late afternoon snacks and happy hour was present. Pro tip - try the house made sangria! The amenities and comforts of the room were great. The bed was comfortable with several pillows and premium sheets. The room was cleaned thoroughly daily with fresh towels provided. The A/C is the older type wall model with some noise; but actually nice white noise, and it worked really well. Make no mistake; Key West is hot and humid, you'll be loving the A/C. The toiletries were nice and plentiful. The shower and upgraded spa tub were absolutely perfect. There is a little fridge, wet bar and Keurig with several K cups, cream and sugar. Two blocks away is the historic Hemingway House and Key West Lighthouse. Also, a great Cuban cafe is a block away. A CVS is nearby for emergency purchases. Numerous restaurants and shops are nearby. We parked our SUV and walked everywhere during our stay. One day we got a trolley ticket for the further sights such as The Southernmost Point. Lastly but not least. The staff are extremely professional, knowledgeable and willing to assist. Huge kudos especially to Danny who was absolutely stellar as he assisted and served us numerous times. In addition to Danny, Cary was also a notable benefit to us and this wonderful lodge. Lastly, kudos to our housekeeper as she was very thorough and came and went daily with perfect timing. Next time we visit Key West in the Free State of Florida we will only consider Almond Tree Inn!
