We stayed her two night from 4/3/26-4/4/26 and loved it. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I like that I received a text from them early on our check in day and asked when we'd be arriving. We were a little early but our room was ready when we arrived. The lady working the front desk was very nice and check in was quick and easy. The guys working valet are top notch. They were quick and friendly. Even when I forgot to get something from the car and needed it again. I walked to it, but they offered to get it. The cleaning staff was friendly when we saw them in the hallways also. We book a King Pool view room and it was clean and spacious. It has a small fridge, coffee maker with pods, a pull out couch and 2 chairs at the desk, and a tv. The bed was firm but comfortable and the pillows were nice. The only thing I could see is the at the hallways of floor 2 needed some patching and paint at a few areas. We will definitely come here again on our next trip, soon. read more

Zero communication among staff here. I had called to make sure we can book a day pass to go to Sunset Keys beach. We've had had dinner at latitudes serval times and really enjoyed our evenings. We had confirmed we can book a day pass with Mariana at the gift shop. We enjoyed our morning then showed up at 2 so spend the rest of the evening to watch the sunset at the beach and the woman at the gift shop (wasn't Mariana) who was God-awfully rude said that that wasn't correct and all answers go through her even though I called and gave the name of whom I spoke with. Was just so unprofessional and insufferable. Thank God I stay with family when visiting because they shouldn't get a dime with staff like that. read more

I love Opal resorts! This one is great! Waterfront to watch the boats go by all day and all night. Convenient walking to hot spots in Key West + they have golf carts and cart parking. The one thing I will say is carpet in suites (at least the one we were in) could use an update. Dingy, kinda smelly. We did get a fan for the room for a sound machine for sleeping but actually used on floor to dissipate the carpet smell/feeling. Other than that: LOVE THIS PLACE!!! read more

We stayed at Opal Key Resort & Marina for a quick one-night staycation, driving down from Islamorada for an event at Sunset Key -- and our check-in experience with Andre was truly outstanding. After an absolutely horrible and very expensive reservation at a different hotel, we had to find a new hotel for our three nights in Key West, Florida. It was late night and there was not much available. Miraculously, this place ended up our final destination after 4 of us were on our phones for literally at least an hour. We ended getting to the place nearly 10:30 pm. The staff was AMAZING!! The place was beautiful with a location right in view of the water. The rooms we got were impeccable. Crisp white sheets, fluffy white towels, plenty of bottled water in the mini fridge. Poolside, they offered cool individually wrapped facial towels, sunblock, sunglasses wiping cloths, and much more. Their restaurant was ocean facing and very nice. We ate breakfast there 2 days in a row and it was wonderful. The only issue was our beautiful view was blocked by cruise ships on both days. The ships were there until nearly 4 pm... that part was definitely not good planning for the view. But for watching sunsets after they were gone... ohhh my goodness. All in all, a fabulous place, sensational customer service and respect. But do expect it to be on the pricier side... well worth every penny. read more

09/19/-9/22/24 We stayed at the beautiful and fantastic waterfront Opal Key Resort for 4 days. It is located in the heart of Key West close to shopping, restaurants & bars and Duval Street. It is within walking distance to all the fun stuff in Key West. We have been going on day trips to Key West for a few years but this is my first vacation stay there. I loved it in great part because of Opal Key and their fabulous staff members! We were treated like VIPs. We received texts from them asking what they could do to make this an unforgettable stay before we even left Miami! When we arrived, the Manager checked us in and gave us a great room with a view of the pool and the Atlantic Ocean and sunsets. We were thrilled! A great experience thruout the 4 days. Our room was very nice with 2 very comfortable Queen beds, a tiled and beautiful bathroom, privacy, and plenty of room to move around in. Everything was clean and perfect. Our balcony view of the pool, palm trees and golden sunsets was unforgettable. The pool was temperature perfect with friendly guests to chat with. At night it was lit up and you could have the pool pretty much to yourself. The grounds were immaculate. Self parking was $30 per day and valet parking was $45. Their restaurant was being remodeled. They had a large tent up with lots of food available. We had breakfast there. There was no room service. Down at their marina, you can board the boat that takes you to the very popluar Latitudes restaurant. We would definitely return when we visit Key West again! We only had drinks at the bar... this resort has a nice restaurant area on the dock where you can enjoy the sunset, and their prices seemed normal. We ordered a drink to take a break from the noise and crowds on the other docks, this is a much more relaxed area of the marina, and so we sat at the bar. The Sri la were generously served and the bartender was quick and busy. We chit chatted amongst ourselves and left when our drinks were done because unfortunately the bar does not face the ocean- so we left to continue our meanderings about downtown. If you are looking for a stopover a bit removed from the maddening crowd: this is the place! Enjoy. read more

Huge disappointment for $1000/night. Stayed here this past weekend, during a holiday weekend in Key West (normally $800/night). Entire resort was under construction, which was just a hassle. We were emailed a couple of days before about the construction (closed restaurant and loud noise). Separate buildings for the parking/valet, lobby, and rooms (note: took us 3X to find the lobby (no signage anywhere)), with a makeshift cafeteria/bar (cart) outside. Room was clean, but nothing "special" or unique. Cruise ships pull up right outside the hotel (block your view and creates a lot of foot traffic when they disembark). Location was nice- on the water, quiet and safe area, and close to Duval Street and Mallory Square. Felt it was overpriced for it offered, and would NOT stay here again. read more

Our first night at Opal Key, we checked into our room with a kitchenette and a lovely ocean view. NO WIFI. We asked for assistance the second day, and 2 men came up without offering insight or follow up. We were moved to another room with better wifi, only to discover this suite housed baby German cockroaches crawling up the sink drain, crawling all over the countertops - YUM. More traditional cockroaches were found in bathroom coming up drains (twice). A guy sprayed, but more were spotted after. This place is INFESTED! (I also saw one in the hallway trying to get under each hotel room door to get inside.) The hotel manager attempted to move us to another room (with a cockroach in plain view). Nightmare material trying to sleep, relax, eat, shower, or enjoy a vacation. Whatever discount eventually offered didn't matter nearly a week in. Make sure you fumigate your belongings when you get home so you don't bring cockroaches or eggs home. A cold day in hell before we stay here OR Opal Sands (which we loved) again. Truly a neglected building (mold in bathroom, dated carpet and furniture) - which is surprising and a bit brazen at $700+ a night. read more

We had stayed at The Opal in May and September 2025 and fell in love with the place. Unfortunately when we called back to stay again in December, the reservation desk had no desire to help or give us a competitive rate even though we were returning clients. We prefer to book directly thru the the hotel and not the other booking sites, but sometimes that isn't always the best deal. The staff is amazing but we will keep looking. read more

If I could give the property 10 stars I would, from the managers who helped with a billing issue this morning; to all of the staff who have been very attentive. I do not understand why this property has 3.5 stars on yelp, it should have a 5. The manager made my fiancés day by bringing us a nice bottle of prosecco and chaurette board to our room; special birthday and we are very grateful for that. We stay at the opals often, and we are locals. Top notch service, and the breakfast and lunch are pretty decent as well. The bathrooms are a little small only issue but really your not in the rooms/suites much do to how beautiful the property is. This would have been the perfect hotel in Key West, if it weren't for the bugs in the room. There is definitely a bug problem here. Before we unpacked in room 356, I removed the sheets and mattress covers and checked the mattresses. I found some black "things" as well as some light yellow kernel-like exoskeletal and light yellow crumb-like things. I showed the front desk the black "things" and they said there was only 1 other room available and offered to move us. (My husband threw out the light yellow things.) I later researched and found that the light yellow kernel-like exoskeletal are most likely bedbug exoskeletal when they molt and the crumbs could be eggs or larvae but we didn't know this when we saw it or when we spoke to the front desk. We moved to the new room and again i checked the mattresses. Again, there are black "things" on the mattresses (mostly likely dead beetles) but at least there weren't any signs of bedbugs (no light yellow exoskeletal or crumbs). We saw several live tiny sugar ants on the bench in the room and a couple of them crawling on the night table. We decided to tolerate these since there were no other rooms available and there weren't any signs of bedbugs. We could tolerate ants and beetles but not bedbugs! It was 11PM and no other rooms available in the hotel (per front desk). Other than the bugs, the hotel is great in every other way. The location is perfect- right next to Mallory square and close enough to walk to Duval St yet far away enough from the loudness there. There is complimentary fresh squeezed orange juice and starbucks coffee daily in the lobby. There is also a small fridge stocked with bottled water and orange/lemon flavored pellegrino drinks. There is complimentary sunscreen in the pool area. The staff is friendly and approachable. Just be sure to check the mattresses and keep your food sealed up. read more

Great place to have a couple drinks and watch the sunset. The place starts to fill up about an hour before sunset. So get here earlier if you want a good seat. The sunsets in KW are second to none. The bar staff is always friendly and attentive. Expect to pay the typical Kw prices for drinks. It's a great place and every time I am here, I make sure to stop by and have a drink. read more

Super disappointed with the service of this property, and would have expected much more given the price you pay to stay. Our stay was fine, and the rooms are fine (nothing special but clean and spacious) but I had a very bad experience with the hotel staff after leaving something in my room upon checkout. They told me they found the item (I have a text message from them stating this) and had me fill out a credit card authorization to mail it to me. Weeks went by with multiple calls and texts by me to attempt to get an update on status- each time I was promised a call back which didn't come. I finally found someone who knows how to return a call on December 10 (6 weeks after my stay) and she said there was a "misunderstanding" and they actually never found the item. Given this was something of value (a set of AirPods Pro) I am guessing someone decided to keep them instead of sending them to me since I know exactly where I left them or they just didn't want to go through the effort of mailing a package. Next time I will stay someone linked to a larger brand that has more accountability. read more

Need an ATM, if the rental office is open you can use their ATM, don't expect anyone to even say hello to you. The gift shops of the Opal Key are also equally as friendly. There are so many lovely resorts in Key West not sure I would stay here. read more

Awesome spot for a drink and appetizer during the sunset at Mallory square! Not really overpriced versus the rest of the island, and you get a really great view without feeling crowded. This place was fantastic. Such a nice place to stay. Especially on the marina side. Cruise ships dock there daily but are gone by 5:00 p.m. so that you can see the sunset from your balcony. Room was spacious. We had a room with a balcony. It was great to sit out there in the morning and in the evening. Key West is such a fun place to visit. We are staying here now. The location is great. The rooms are ok. To my knowledge there's only one pool and while I do not mind kids (I have a young daughter) the pool can get packed with kids splashing nonstop and throwing balls and rafts. It's a small pool considering it's the only one. I got hit several times with something (by accident of course). It just would be nice to have a guarded pool where things could be nice for everyone. They certainly deserve to have fun in the pool, but so do I. It's a great spot for shopping and watching the sunset. Cruise ships have been docked each morning which is cool to see. It's my friend's birthday. You evidently get a free tour on your birthday. The concierge had a booking company on speaker phone and a not so kind comment was made about not making a reservation happen for a "free birthday tour". Which was nasty and unnecessary. So I won't pay them for any tours. Don't offer something you don't want to see through. The room is okay. Clean. The shower doesn't have much pressure. But the tv channels are good and again, it's clean so that matters most. Beds are firm and comfortable to me. read more

For the price (just over $600 per night, Feb 19th to 23rd), this hotel was a major disappointment. The location is first class, but nothing else was. The carpeting in the hallway to our room was threadbare and filthy. The room was little better than I would have expected at a Motel 6. The bathroom was cramped and very 1970's. Bedroom furniture was tired and old. Staff were generally friendly but not well informed about even basic things, like the buffet breakfast hours. And about the buffet breakfast, the omelet station filling choices were cheese or cheese. At lunch one day, my fiance's grouper sandwich stank and was disgusting. We returned it and weren't charged. I suspect that, given the popularity of Key West as a destination, the hotel doesn't have to try very hard, including staff training, to get business at premium prices. We had reserved 4 nights as part of a brief visit to celebrate our grandson's graduation, Eagle Scout, and upcoming Coast Guard boot camp. The day after his arrival, but before our trip down to the Keys, his best friend from high school and fellow Eagle Scout recipient was killed in a head-on collision coming home from work. His friend's mom and single parent asked our grandson if he could serve as pallbearer. We decided we would reschedule this trip, allowing him to show his respects. He returned home and Delta was super-accommodating. Opal Key couldn't care less. They apparently have some disagreement with Booking.com/Expedia. Their response was if you booked through us, we could help you, but since you went through a third party, you have to go through them. Our credit card was charged $550 even though we intended to rebook...but not anymore. It's a shame when customers get stuck in the middle of a business matter, especially in times of grief. read more

The rooms were nice and spacious and we had a little patio that overlooked the pool and you could see the ocean (except when a cruise ship is in port). The hotel is well kept and staff were friendly. Salon the night manager's customer service is unacceptable and after our experience with her who will not be back. They charged the room for our stay and $250 for incidentals upon check-in and one of the nights was charged upon reservation which is perfectly fine. The definition of Hotel incidentals refer to "additional charges for services and amenities used during a hotel stay that are not included in the base room rate. These are typically extra costs incurred by guests beyond the standard room charge, and they often require a separate payment". Upon speaking with her because they tried to charge us twice for the incidentals, Salon was completely condescending, rude and talk to me like I was ignorant, and I've never stayed out a hotel before. I completely get that every hotel was different, but then explain the hotel process upon check in. Upon her, trying to charge us twice on our card, they locked us out of our room and tried to act like the batteries needed to be changed on the lock. When in fact, they canceled our room key. We have already paid for the room already paid our incidentals And because you wanna charge us twice, you want to lock us out of our room And act like you didn't do it. Also, we asked for some extra towels which they brought, but they come to turn down our bed and take them. On the positive side this resort is conveniently located to see the sunset every evening and a short walk away from the night life in Key West. Our experience with the front desk staff when initially checking in was also a good experience. The resort pool and hot tub were nice and relaxing, and delivered a great experience for my family the days we visited it. On the more critical side we felt this resort was overpriced because we had several below-par service experiences when considering how much we were spending for a big ticket and exotic vacation. The only bad meal we had during our week in Key West was the restaurant in this resort. We ate at local restaurants outside of this resort every other meal and always had great meals. Our room also had tiny little bugs crawling around the kitchen counter and kitchen sink area, so we had to be diligent about where we kept food and this was a little gross. A cruise ship often ported right next to this resort, which blocked the view of the ocean most every evening. We absolutely loved the vibe in Key West though and plan to return, but we will probably shop around for a different place to stay next time. read more
