We Stayed here for 2 nights and really enjoyed it. The location is phenomenal... walk to everything. The hotel was very nice (smaller somewhat boutique) , cool vibe. Not really a resort as someone else also mentioned... although there is a mandatory $56 a night resort fee. The hotel was clean , the room was nice with a separate shower and bath tub, balcony, the bed and pillows were great. I'd def stay here again as long as I can still $wing it

    Broken elevator our entire stay.

The Marker is surely a 5 star hotel, however it falls short by calling themselves a resort. The building and grounds are very nice. Where it falls short is the service and attention to detail that is expected when you are staying at a resort. The 2nd floor room attendants fall woefully short of resort service. Imagine after your room has been serviced then your wife jumps in the shower, but upon completion she realizes the attendants took the dirty towels but never replaced them! Then imagine my surprise when I tried to dial up the front desk (or anybody for that matter) but the hot buttons on the phone are just there for looks. She managed to sort of dry off with 1 face and 2 hand towels. This was just one of many issues we had with the staff. I must say the front desk staff were all nice, just not very effective at getting you any assistance because the rest of the staff just doesn't seem to care. I kind of felt like we were annoying them by staying here. Although it is in a great location I'm not sure I would stay here again. If you are going to call yourself a resort then your guests should expect resort type service which is certainly lacking here.

Going back almost a decade ago, I recall this 2 acre plot of land stood empty and then with the blink of an eye there was a building constructed overlooking the Bight Marina but it wasn't The Marker.... a short time later that building was gone and a whole new complex was constructed... THE MARKER has arrived. I read that this was the first new hotel is over 20 years and you certainly could'nt have picked a better location. Obviously, Key West has a very large number of upscale hotels from high-end to chains to bed & breakfast; but not many can brag about overlooking the active Bight Marina (with exception of the Galleon), and still only 3 blocks from Duval Street. The hotel has the architectural style you'd expect from Key West (conch style with lots of charm). The entrance is excellent with colorful sculptures and front doors (and an oversized adirondack chair in a teal blue). Enter into the front doors and welcome to the gold rail staircase leading to the lobby. The staff in the lobby were friendly and the concierge was very helpful and not pushy. SO FAR, WE ARE IMPRESSED. Once we were assigned our room, we relocated our car to the lower level parking garage. We booked a regular room (didn't bother with the pool or water views)... and to be honest, I was plenty pleased. The was another building behind us from our balcony but there was plenty of landscape and it was relaxing. Despite what I had read in other Yelp reviews (and somewhat concerning), we experienced no deficiencies in our room... very clean, comfortable bed, nice decor and personal touches... and room looked excellent and the bathroom was phenomenal (clean and stylish). STILL IMPRESSED. Outside the buildings are the pool areas... the two main pools right by each other and with a light surrounding of landscaping and some extra amenities like a bar, sunblock station and a stage for entertainment (I assume). The "other" pool is reached by going through the buildings and I found this area to look nicer and the "other" pool is and "adults only" pool. The landscaping here is fuller and very tropical with a nice sitting area and a couple outdoor sculptures (but no drink service, but you can visit the bar and bring them here yourself). The hotels also happens to be "dog friendly"... and they provided a nice little spot for the fur babies to go to the bathroom; complete with artificial turf open area with nice landscaping and a doggie bag pole... But I love the extra touch, a bright red fire hydrant to pee on. I really loved waking up and being only a block away from CUBAN COFFEE QUEEN.... grabbed coffee upon waking up each morning and Pan Cubano and enjoyed it sitting on our room's balcony. My only gripe was requesting a late check-out (only requested one hour), was responded with what seemed like a prepared response they use with all requests, "WE'LL LET YOU KNOW IN THE MORNING THAT YOU LEAVE BECAUSE WE DON'T KNOW HOW MANY ROOM REQUIRE CLEANING". In some hotels I say I understand but our room was not serviced until late afternoon each day. So why would it matter if we left the room at noon instead of 11AM. They even showed up to service our room one day at 5:00PM when we were getting to go out (we had to request they return in 30 minutes. Overall, we loved the style and decor of the hotel, loved the pool and landscaping (so tropical and relaxing), loved the location and loved that mattress.

My room in the middle of the night.

Negatives: No to room 133 or a room in a stairwell or next to elevator. No curtains on windows except big slider. See my picture from the middle of the night. Next to elevator, and could hear every time it moved. Did not provide more than one roll of toilet paper as if anyone wanted to take the ultra thin toilet paper home. On the day before we left, they did not even give a spare (only the one left on the wall). Very very slow elevators. Positives: Great location Staff friendly Many amenities Three pools: 1 at outside weather temp, 2 at around 88°. Full service at the pool side. Someone singing by the pool. Even though all of them not good, but that is most singers in KW. Hard to come across a good singer.

The Marker allows locals to visit their pools (yes, plural), and my friend was privy to this spot during my recent visit to Key West. We stopped by one afternoon to enjoy the DJ set, some tasty drinks from their poolside bar, and of course, the pool itself. Most patrons were very friendly, and at first we weren't able to locate free chairs, until a couple got up and let us know they were leaving, which was really kind of them. We stayed for at least a couple of hours. I ordered a raspberry lemonade frozen drink that was so good and refreshing. We visited in mid-May and the pool temperature felt like bath water to me. Apparently, in the summer they do chill their pool though. I previously didn't know that was a thing being from the Northeast, but that makes sense considering the outside temps. I can't speak to the hotel experience itself, but the pool scene was quite nice.

Great location but they REALLY need to invest in pillows. Each visit we are frustrated with the awful pillow options and our backs and necks hurt that entire trip. Rooms are clean and great location but the walls are paper thin and pillows are just a big problem. 3 nights in a row had to listen to the couple in the next room argue then have sex loudly until 2-3am every morning. Walls do not offer any sound control. We stay here for dog friendly and great location but will probably consider an airbnb for future trips.

Insects in the bathroom. Maintenance said we lied, so we took pictures.
    Laura W.

Terrible from check in to check out. Insects in bathroom, reported twice. Room needs a full renovation. Dirty carpets, horrible mattress and housekeeping was nonexistent. For the $50 "resort fee " you get use of the pools and pool towels. No welcome drink as advertised. No service for drinks or sun products poolside. Bar area overpriced even for the Keys. No real restaurant. Key bracelets stop working. No bell service for assistance with bags, parking $40 a night. Keep your money, book elsewhere.

    Bob W.

The location is great. I took photos of the items that did not get fixed in our room and a mildewy life ring at the Adult pool. The hospitalty was poor and the "cleaning" was new towels and a remade bed....no vaccuuming. We could have addressed these issues if we had a working phone and not requiring text exchanges. Even the daily complimentary water became an issue. The final straw was not extending check out an hour or two to accomodate our late flight. This is a first for us. The bright spot was Karolina and her Central European charm. At dropping nearly $1k per day here, not a chance of returning.

The breakfasts for the price taste dismal and lower quantity. 2 eggs bacon, toast, and chopped potatoes a bit over $20 as most other dishes plus smaller sizes if you just want a donut or similar. The vibe I get is for breakfast this place is for guests who have a hotel package that includes free breakfasts. They also charge a 18% mandatory "service charge" and of course another line for the tip. We didn't do dinner here. I hope its better than the breakfast. 2. We booked under The Edge Chase Sapphire Reserve so its $100 property credit and free breakfasts for 2. When you consider "service charges" tips, taxes, and determine what the credit can be used for, it becomes a bit confusing. I know for a fact that laundry is not included, neither is the $50/day valet parking. Sort of an resort advantage to keep the guest guessing. Drinks food, spa i know are included with the $100. The valet guy was cool and informative. Considering the small island size and the cost of everything, this was a great stay. The room and balcony overlooking Malery Square plus the ocean and Sunset Island were fantastic. I have stayed at many locations over the years and this was by far the best. Pegasus on Duval is a dump. Both Hyatts are nice but on east side of the island so transportation becomes an issue. Do you really want to drive close to Duvall....if you can find a space, then pay for parking? This place is 2 blocks from Sloppy Joe's, Hogsbreath, next to Malerly Square and sunset pier. Walking distance to the hot spots at night.

I'll start with the positives and then get to the negatives and rank them in order. Positives: 1. The palm trees and lush vegetation. 2. The decorations for pride and their 50th anniversary. 3. The food is still reasonably good, although the prime rib came out cold. 4. The rooms have been generally remodeled to be more modern. Negatives: 1. The room is cool in the morning, warms up by late afternoon, is hot by 9 PM, and doesn't start to cool back off until 2:30 AM. 2. The bar staff plays Spanish music only all day until you ask the front desk to have it switched to English to which the bar staff takes offense. 3. The bar staff is more interested in watching the FIFA soccer tournament than actually waiting on any guests. 4. The further you went back into the room away from the front door the weaker the Wi-Fi signal got until there was no signal. 5. The soap dispenser leaked onto the towels hanging on the towel bar below it. Instead of having it fixed, the towels were put on the floor. 6. The gang shower between the gym, indoor Jacuzzi, and steam room area smells like sewage. 7. The sitting area above the stairway and at the end of the hall next to room 210 is covered in and reeks of pigeon feces. See attached pic. Although the front desk and management are responsive, it used to be that these things were taken care of without guests needing to point them out or request they be fixed. Not sure if it's due to staff turnover and/or management turnover but hopefully this review will be taken seriously and help future guests as we will not be coming back anytime soon. My overall rating is a 1 because the negatives far outweigh the positives in importance for the price you pay. And when prices are raised, you would expect the service level would raise as well or at least stay the same, which, in this case has not. Please remember that you're in the HOSPITALITY SERVICE industry. This is basically lipstick on a pig.

A female guest was verbally cornered and aggressively berated by an enraged male patron over a minor non-issue involving a bird near the family pool deck. Despite multiple eyewitnesses, who were asked to confirm the woman did nothing wrong and that the man was the sole aggressor, hotel security decided to de-escalate his threatening behavior. In addition, it seems security contacted local police on behalf of the man to have the female guest and her children removed under threat of arrest. We fully understand that this hotel is private property and management has the right to enforce rules on its premises. However, paying patrons also have rights. One of them is the right to a safe environment and fair treatment. Using private property rights to shield an aggressive patron while penalizing a victimized woman is a complete failure of duty of care. As a paying guest, watching management handle this safety concern the way it did was alarming and disappointing. While this was a verbal assault and not a physical assault, it should not diminish the fact that the female patron responded to the man to de-escalate using logic instead of emotions. To the mom - please reach out here via message to let us know you are safe and sound with your family. We tried reaching out through the hotel and on OoenTable/Google Business. Hope you're doing ok now! To the man with anger issues on principle - just because you thought your child (and the woman's children) may have overheard a swear word when a bird was being shooed away from tainting the pool water, it could have stopped with you. Teach your child to not say that word instead of dressing down a mom in public for your audience. This could be a core memory for children and adults, especially those who witness this in the home. My own children, who watched this performance, said to me they were worried the argument would turn physically violent. I'm happy it didn't, but it did ruin our afternoon. The one I'm writing about is more of the grounded/foundation/building kind, and on my recent trip down to Key West I had a pleasant experience at said establishment. My travels were with a handful of coworkers as we escaped the NY cold to get some Florida sun. They had come to The Galleon two years prior and stayed in quite an odd and anything-but-enticing room. Luckily, adding me into the mix gave the need for an upgrade to one of their larger quarters that faced the marina. We walked in and there was some awe to our reactions. Maybe it was all the negative convos I had overheard about their previous place, but this was quite the space (too much rhyming?). Multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, a spiral staircase, a kitchen and dining area, and a breathtaking view (complete with balcony). We kept those balcony doors open most of the time just to really drive in that balmy feel. Beyond our rockin' room was the pool and beach area. Well, the pool was exactly as stated (a pool), but that beach? It was more of a tiny, sandy spot with a few chairs and no real waves. Hey, it was a way to get into the ocean and there was one of those floating wooden docks you could climb up on so it had that going for it. The rest of the outdoor area included a deck with plenty of tables and lounge chairs as well as the majority of this exterior section: the tiki bar. Hanging out back here really let the laid back Key West feeling sink in. So why not five stars? Despite the beauty of the room, by the third day, you could notice some wear and tear in spots that took away some of that original luster. Plus, it should be noted that The Galleon is really more of a timeshare, so housekeeping isn't an everyday occurance (we learned the hard way when we ran out of towels). Staff is also few and far between, but we ran into no big issues so this wasn't a problemo for us. Overall, The Galleon does deliver the essentials for a relaxing time when in Key West. You've got everything you need right there (including a nice happy hour special at that tiki bar) and a short walk away from the bustle of Duval Street. My coworkers are planning a return trip in two years and you can bet your bottom dollar we'll be shacking up again aboard the ship...er, um establishment that is The Galleon.

Disappointing at best. We had reservations for a five night stay. My husband had a medical…read moreemergency on the first night and was taken by ambulance to Miami. I returned to the hotel to check out early, only to be told I had to pay for the full 5 night stay. We had only spent one night. Just be aware the management will only allow refunds during hurricanes. In addition, the unit was run down and seriously outdated.

It's quite large and also had a few pools, nice beach, and the attention to detail (upkeep mainly) appealed to us, so we decided to stay here on this most recent trip. We selected the Le Mar house, which is sort of like a B&B with your own bathroom in each room. The house's décor is excellent... the upkeep is equally as nice! We heard that these houses (the Le Mar and the Dewey) were recently renovated and we could tell, as everything was shiny and clean, but overall, the staff does a nice job keeping things polished on a daily basis! The bed was comfy and the bathroom was spacious and nicely tiled. The shower pressure wasn't that great, plus it took forever to get hot water to the shower head, but we didn't mind, as it was so clean and nice and the shower was still effective. They have a nice selection of soaps/shampoo called Bee Nice, which offered a nice smell and effective wash. The towels were soft, clean, and kept stocked up in our bathroom. The décor in the room itself was beautiful and reminded us we were at the beach. The only issue with the room itself was that the TV uses WiFi to connect and it was horrible. We like to fall asleep and wake up to the TV, but it kept buffering and mostly didn't work. Plus, there was no sleep function accessible from the remote. The resort offers 3 pools... We chose the tranquility pool the first day, which was nice until a group of loud mouth guys got in and just became very obnoxious. They ran off most of the couples there by being condescending in a southern tone and constantly telling each other to hush as this was the tranquility pool, yet being on opposite sides of the pool to constantly yell back and forth... Juveniles! These types of people are generally why we don't like large resorts like this, they're often loaded with people to drink too much and don't know how to act. So, the next day we opted for the Shores pool, which is definitely a lot louder, as it's got music playing, about 5 times more people in it, a bar, and even live music a few hours each day. But the guests were all much more pleasant in this pool and we enjoyed being here a lot more. Plus, this pool is huge, so it's easier to spread out and have more space in the pool, with plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas too. The only issue here were the 3 different guitar singers that came in each of 3 different days... they were all horrible! (Note to resort - save your money, just play the regular music from the speakers, yacht rock was great, but these guitarists were very bad!) The report offers full service at this pool with a full food & drink menu. They also have a spa, which is location just off the side of this larger pool too. Housekeeping on point! She would notice when we left the room to go to the pool and she'd refresh our room, making it smell citrus fresh too! I left out checking in, but that too was friendly and efficient. They gave us a ride to our room and took our luggage up. The one thing I wish they would offer is a ride down to the "downtown" area of Duval, as it's pretty hot and to walk 7/10th of a mile every time you want to go out is a bit much, especially for those in heels. We noticed that the staff was always cleaning and keeping things straight around the resort. There were painters constantly touching up and it was evident, as there was hardly any rotted wood railing or chipped paint to be found... Again, great attention to detail! Lastly, the resort did a great job keeping in touch... sending texts throughout the day telling us what was coming up. They had plenty of activities, some looked really fun and the entire staff was very engaging. We'd definitely return here!
