My family and I took a road trip and stayed at a few Keys for spring break. One of them was Big Pine Key Motel. It was perfect for motel standards. Rooms were clean, great location and key vibes. The beds are not the comfiest but over all great place to stay a few nights. The best part was the onsite cafe, great service for breakfast! I had the shrimp n grits and it was super tasty. Its a supercheap motel. It's mostly tidy but pretty beat up. If they spent the money to make nice or up to date that would immediately double or triple the price. It's OK for what it is and if you want a Hampton Inn or other Mid tier property expect to pay ALOT more for that in the keys. AC is cold and the people who work here are friendly. read more

Ok so me and my bestie were on a girls trip and REALLY wanted to love this place. For reference we are in our mid twenties, have stayed in all kinds of places, are not squeamish, etc and were doing this trip both last minute and on a budget during peak season. Pros: Location, easy access to marathon, state parks and key west. We personally loved not being in the thick of tourist activity and opting in as desired. The cafe (more like a diner) out front is affordable and does exactly what you need it to do, especially after a night out. Totally felt safe, absence of negatives is a positive in that regard. HOWEVER: We got completely bitten up by bed bugs here. Like, massive itchy welts that were not mosquitos or fleas, fit all the criteria. We would go to bed completely fine and wake up eaten. The beds were also only made up with a single sheet and we got cold at night, not sure if that was related. I would not level a claim like this if I weren't one hundred percent sure it was coming from our room, which was also wall to wall carpeted. This felt like a little bit of a blow, especially because the price ended up being more expensive than advertised online (nearly 300 a night for the two of us) and easily the most expensive place we stayed. Anyways all this to say if it weren't for the bed bugs I would have given 4/5 stars but that's the problem with bed bugs, it completely derailed our trip and when I got home I had to spend a full day doing laundry like a mad woman and I don't even have an in unit washer/dryer. read more

The hotel room was quaint and clean. The building is really old and well maintained for the age but not updated. Thus quaint. Would stay again. No weird smells and ac worked well. Room felt very clean. Hotel is close to main road but not noisy. We were by the fountain and could hear it but not bothersome. Staff was wonderful, kind, and helpful. No hairdryer in the room but there was a larger than normal hotel frig. read more

I stayed here 2 nights and left so bit up! For the price I definitely would have hoped there were no bugs! I wish I checked here first bc I saw someone else post they have bed bugs! I'm home now 8 months pregnant with bites all over and washing everything in super hot water to kill anything I may have brought home with me! Spend the extra money and go somewhere else! read more

I needed three rooms quickly. we were here just after the last storm so we weren't expecting much, but the rooms were nice (NO bugs) and very clean motel is an older motel but kept in decent shape for where its at and considering the abuse it receives from frequent storms. the staff ( Ana, can't remember her last name, but she had a mile wide smile and was very helpful in getting us three rooms on short notice. This is by far the worst motel I have ever stayed in. I paid over $400 and did not sleep either night of my stay. The AC rattled so loudly that I had to turn it off in an attempt to sleep. On my second night, I was awakened by other guests talking and smoking on the balcony at 2:45 in the morning. Rusted refrigerator, mildew in bathroom, sagging ceiling tile, etc. gave the room an impression of uncleanliness. Maybe this would be fine at a lesser price, but not for $200+ a night. The only saving grace was an attentive staff member who helped me when I couldn't get the key card to work my first night. Save your money and drive the extra miles to Key West, where there is a variety of establishments to choose from. read more

don't let the "resort" name fool you, this is a bare bones no frills old school motel, but it is clean and about 30 minutes drive from Key West. There is very little in between here and Key West in terms of motels and hotels, so if you are trying to avoid spending large $$$ , this may be a good option. Motel guests get a discount at the restaurant next door for breakfast, which has very good food. read more

I wish the owner would take the word "Resort" out of the name. This place this the store brand, low budget way to go. Save your money and stay here, especially if you're on a motorcycle. For those of us that ride, there's no better way to save a buck by staying here and then riding to key west. There are two levels, the second floor is about $10 cheaper then the ground level. I love it. Its clean, well lit and safe considering that there isn't much else around between big pine and KW from what I saw. If you show your room key, you get a discount at the "Cracked Egg" which is right outside of your room. The last time I stayed at the motel, I crawled up the ramp and into the diner- yes, after long night. No one even blinked an eye, they've seen it all before! Seriously- during peak time, my room was $99, clean, safe and sound. read more

We were just looking for a place to sleep and shower and thats what we got. I was close to key west which is where we spent the entire day. The staff was great, very friendly and helpful. My only complaint is the carpet was pretty dirty, a lot of stains, especially near the entrance..The bedding and bathroom was clean and that was more important. We had no problems checking in and out.. It was the cheapest, closest place we could find near Key West... I would stay there again. read more

If your visiting the lower keys on a budget, this is your home base. Sane prices for the room which was clean and well maintained. The motel is no frills NOT a resort LOL. but does have a clean pool (UPDATE 9/2014 Pool is not operating) and a restaurant across the parking lot that serves good food at a fair "Keys" price. You get a 10% discount is you show them your pink Big Pine Motel receipt. The motel is only a 35-45 minute drive to Key West. The room had a small refrigerator AND a small microwave. Head up the road to Winn Dixie Grocery (major chain) and save on eating out a few mornings etc. The motel is aged 1960 ish era design but not run down. I have been working off and on every few weeks in the keys these past three years. The Big Pine is my number two pick for budget accommodations. The Sunset Inn on Islamorada wins out by price($65 night) but is over an hour North so not close to Key West. When you check in in the evening keep a look out for the resident Key Deer that lives behind the motel. The deer are everywhere in the afternoon so please obey the speed limits. The WiFi is weak except right near the office, they need a better antenna. It is also slo.....ooow. My 4G phone is way faster read more

This place is clean and not as run down as I had thought it may be. It has wi-fi that only works outside the room. There was a leak in the ceiling of our room but not annoying. The bed was mediocre and I slept ok. There were not enough towels and the office had no more to give. The cafe next door was really good and had good prices. read more

PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS! I was recently in the Keys and tried to stay at the Big Pine Motel in Big Pine Key. I am a combat veteran who has a registered service dog that travels with me. In addition to assisting me we travel doing volunteer work with other veterans who suffer from severe PTSD. When I attempted to get room I was rudely told my dog couldn't be there. As I'm used to this I politely explained that Fred was a service animal, showing his documentation, and was legally entitled to be there with me. The receptionist told me she was unaware of any type of policy and would need to talk with the owner "which might take some time". I once again informed her that this was a legal issue and The American's w/Disabilities Act said they had to let Fred be there. The receptionist then rudely asked me for a "list of my disabilities" to which I couldn't take anymore and decided I simply didn't want them to have my money. I left and found a great little place called Coconut Cay Motel in Marathon which had no problem with Fred staying the night. Fred and I have traveled all over the country and have never experienced anything like here. read more

Is what it is. Pitstop on the way to Key West. Older accommodations, but a room to lay your head for the night. Pool is completely non-functional (during this review in November of 2014), and I haven't tried the breakfast to be honest. Had two days down in the lower keys off from work and I chose this place to get me by til morning in the lowest spot. Room was clean, well kept, and they made it work. Front desk was extremely friendly (offered many recommendations for the area) and I soon felt at ease leaving belongings in the room, even without a do not disturb sign available. If you are used to a hotel (ie holiday inn, best western, la quinta, etc) keep moving. Means to an end, this is your place. I would stay here again. read more

We came here anticipating a low budget motel and that's what we got. No surprises just needed a place to crash for the night. Beds were firm and noisy, head boards would clang the wall if you rolled over too fast. AC was good, shower was adequate. Staff was the best part of our experience. If you're looking to stay near Key West without dropping 250 a night, this place is good. 156 bucks which to me is outrageous for the conditions but considering it was the cheapest I guess you get what you pay for. read more

A 1 because it's a roof over our heads and the bed was ok. There were bugs in the bathtub and ants crawling around by the sink. The floor was dirty and the air conditioner smelled strong of mold though it worked ok. Way overpriced for the condition of the place. There were only 2 other cars in the lot. Keep i mind this is a MOTEL not a HOTEL. I was very happy to spend my time here. If your on vacation your not spending your days in your room anyway. We were up early and out the door and did not return until 10-11 pm. We just needed a clean place to rest our heads and shower. Our room was clean, bathroom clean, we asked for more towels and no troubles at all, microwave worked, fridge worked and so did the air. The owners are great people and there staff are very friendly. I really liked this place because they are pretty much in the middle of the keys and you could go north or south for anything. This trip was very important for my family as we had lost a loved one while he was on his vacation so we needed to make peace with the Keys and not think of the Keys as "that's where we lost our loved one". The Keys are to beautiful for that memory. The owners knew of our situation and they went above and beyond to help us during this time. There are still good people in this world and they are in that group. Thank you for being there for our family! I am your fan and will continue to support you. read more

This used to be The Cracked Egg, but forget about that!! I come to Big Pine every 3 months to visit my parents. Tried this for lunch today with my Mom. I had one of the best fish sandwiches ever with 5 pieces of snapper on a toasted bun. Mom had a patty melt and really liked it. New owners have cleaned the place up, painted, put in booths, and it is really nicer. Our server was really nice and knew her menu. The only down side is that they are only open now Thursday-Monday for breakfast and lunch only. read more

This is such a pleasant change from our very impersonal world that we live in today! Rooms are neat and clean, and very easy on the wallet!! Staff are very friendly and helpful with anything you may need!! Because of the service and caliber of Owners and staff this has made us yearly visitors. After Hurricane Irma many mom and pop Hotels, Bars, Restaurants, and other small Biz has suffered greatly!! They are up and running now FULL STEAM!! Listen folks you cant go wrong here!! I read a lot of poor reviews about this place on Google, but I still went for it. The location is awesome. 8 minutes away from Bahia Honda, 40 minutes away from Duval street (the Main Street) of Key West. Fast food is 20 minutes away and there's a super market two blocks away. The location couldn't be better. I went during spring break, when all hotel/motel prices were high. All others ranged around $239/night and up. I spent $139/night at the Big Pine Key Motel. Saved a couple hundred. The employees were really friendly and brought us extra towels within an hour just because. The environment was calm, the food is good in the area, pricey but good. The rooms were clean. AC worked perfectly. The bathtub wasn't white, but it's a motel. I didn't expect a shower made out of pearl. The wifi signal was weak, which was annoying. There's no pool, but the crystal blue beach is so close that a pool doesn't matter. All in all, I enjoyed and benefitted from this motel. If you're going with your family and want to spend less on the hotel and have more for spending in the Keys, this place is perfect. Will be staying here again next year. read more
