As locals, we know that Looe Key Reef Dive Center has an outstanding reputation, so when we wanted to celebrate a special occasion, there was no question who we would choose for our snorkeling trip. They exceeded every expectation. Captain James and his first mate, Allison, were absolutely fantastic. They were friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about making sure everyone had an amazing experience. The boat was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, making for a relaxing and enjoyable afternoon on the water. The snorkeling itself was incredible. The water was beautiful and clear, and we saw an amazing variety of marine life, including colorful tropical fish, large schools of fish, small sharks, barracuda, and so much more. Every time we looked beneath the surface, there was something new to discover. One of the highlights of the trip was the dolphins. Captain James went above and beyond to make sure everyone had the best possible view. He carefully maneuvered the boat so we could watch them from different angles, and at one point he even got them behind the boat where they followed along, jumping and playing in the wake. It was absolutely magical and made for some incredible videos and memories that we will treasure. I would also like to recognize Tabatha in the office. She was wonderful to work with from the very beginning. She made the reservation process simple and stress-free, answered all of our questions, and was genuinely kind and helpful. It was a pleasure meeting her in person as well. From start to finish, the entire experience with Looe Key Reef Dive Center at Looe Key Reef Resort was exceptional. The staff, the boat, the snorkeling, the wildlife, and the customer service were all top-notch. We had an unforgettable afternoon and would absolutely book with them again. If you're looking for a snorkeling adventure in the Florida Keys, we cannot recommend them highly enough. read more

This trip, by far, was the best snorkeling of a reef in the Keys. The trip consists of 2 areas, each for an hour which we felt was a double bonus compared to other trips we went on. Rob, crew member was friendly, inviting and personal. He took time to get to know each group of snorkekers on the boat. Captain James....well, not sure if he was having a bad day or he is always rude but we felt the experience could be 5 stars if the captain was more approachable and friendly. Even as simple as purchasing a bottle of water seemed like a daunting task and as if we were ' bothering him' by asking. If I could give all of my tip to Rob, I sure would have. read more

Just stayed at this place for 6 days Jan 30, 2025 - Feb 04, 2025 and this place was great. We had so many issues between rental cars, and airport nonsense that when we got to this place and the folks greeted us- we felt instantly relieved like we were finally on vacation. It's not a 5 star hotel, but for a clean spacious affordable room for a family that just wants to explore this was more than enough. I want to come back already and I'm typing this at work the next day. Didn't get to experience the dive tour, but the boat looked awesome. You also have an amazing view! read more

Incredible SNORKELING AND DIVES!!! If you snorkel or dive, Looe Key is for you. The reef is a 10 star with abundant marine life and scientists working to heal and grow more coral. WE called last minute and got on the boat, Captain Katie and her crew were top notch with everyone's safety and enjoyment their priority. The crew is highly experienced and knows the area, it's waterways and the marine life. They worked well with all ages and experience levels. This boat was fun from the first step onboard. AS for the equipment, they personally fitted each snorkeler to ensure the fins and mask were a good fit. (that was a first...( other boats just give you equipment) Couple things above the norm... snacks and drinks were offered on a tab for the ride back and they offered a fresh water rinse off. Much needed after all the salt water. I will go back and I will bring more friends... Love the crew, the reef and the sights. Thank you to everyone that made my experience positive and fun. read more

This was our 6th trip to Looe Key on Wednesday, May 20. James was our Captain, who we have had 5 times before since 2015. This was our first time on the smaller boat. We could not have had a better trip. The water was crystal clear, we have never seen it this clear before. The visibility was amazing. James took us to 2 good spots, and we saw sharks both times. No Goliath grouper this trip but plenty of colorful fish. We also saw some dolphins and they had a baby with them. James made sure we got to see them. We also saw some turtles. What an awesome trip and a perfect day. Snorkeling Looe Key is one of our favorite things to do in the Keys. read more

After looking at this "resort" website, we booked two nights here. This was for two people, my wife and myself, and we wanted to do some snorkeling while we were in the area. After walking into the room, we quickly realized that this was not a good idea. The rooms are less than basic - no headboards, minimum decor, and the bathroom could use a good power washing. I have stayed in a lot of places, but never seen a damage list for every item in the room (see the attached photo) maybe so the clientele can figure out how much they can afford to trash or steal ahead of time? We decided since the room was abysmal, we would sit by the pool until it was time for our snorkel trip. The pool is directly off of the highway, and the road noise is very loud. We took the snorkel/dive boat about 6 miles out to the reef for a two stop snorkel. When we got back on the boat between snorkels, the boat reeked of weed, which is strange, because the only ones remaining on the boat were crew members. Not cool if the captain and mate were lighting up while they are responsible for 19 snorkelers/divers. (Do what you want on your own time, but not while you are captaining a boat and responsible for guests - it's not like your guests could swim back to shore if you forgot someone). After a long day of driving to get to the "resort" and several snorkel stops, we were ready to go back to the room and relax, but our awful room was next to the Tiki bar where live music played until 9:30pm. The next night the tiki bar was packed and the live music lasted until 11pm, after which we were treated to some guy on his Harley outside of our door blasting a Jelly Roll song on repeat. This was probably a motel built in the 1950's or 1960's, and is in dire need of a good cleaning and update. Seriously, at $350.00 a night, I would implore the owners to spend some money to make this a decent place to stay. I would recommend staying here only as a last "resort". read more

Our family and friend party of 4 had an awesome half day snorkeling Looe Reef. Three of us were experienced scuba/snorklers, and one had limited snorkeling experience. The trip was great for all of us. We saw Nurse Sharks, a Blacktip shark, lots of Parrot Fish, Baracudda, Angelfish, Rock Beauties, .... The boat ride to the reef is about 30m, and then two one hour dives on the reef in two different locations. On our dive the second dive was only 100-200 feet anchored away from our first dive - but this provided plenty of diversity and different depths (10 ft ~ 40 ft). The crew was great and Rudder the ladder climbing, fish-chasing dog is a spectacle in and of himself. Booking a second trip later this week. Also, we snorkeled and scuba'd in several places around Pennekamp in Key Largo, and were more impressed with Looe Reef. read more

What a gem! Honestly I didn't expect much when I booked a night at this hotel. I was thrilled to be wrong. The room was spotless and huge. The patio in the back was a nice surprise. It was great to relax with our coffee as we watched the activity in the channel. The Tiki Bar next door was very nice too. We arrived too late to join for trivia night, but the rest of the customers were having a blast. Nice to get some of the local flavor. read more

I had a pleasant experience at Looe Key with a great crew, which included Captain James, Dawn, and Tony. Dawn's seemingly infinite energy provided an upbeat atmosphere from beginning to end. She made sure to help in whichever way she could, allowing the trip to run seamlessly. Captain James found two excellent snorkeling locations. At the first dive site, snorkelers excitedly mentioned how they spotted a shark, which according to the crew is the sign of a healthy reef. At the second dive site, I was pleasantly surprised to see a spotted eagle ray for the first time! Watching him glide through the water gracefully with sunlight dancing on his patterned back was somehow exciting and peaceful at the same time. The water temperature was perfect, allowing me to take in the experience as comfortably as possible. As we returned, I took my time admiring the nature and the houses lining the canal. The residents seemed at-ease and jovial, waving as we passed. Thank you very much for facilitating this experience. :) I'm grateful. read more

This was our 6th trip with Looe Key Reef Resort & Dive. We were able to easily sign electronically the waivers which made it less human contact at check in. The folks at the check in desk were first rate. James was our captain and he always does a great job. He made sure to get us properly fitting fins and mask. One of the best trips on the Reef. Saw a ton of fish and a couple or Reef sharks. On the way to the second location saw a pod of dolphins which was very cool. At the second location on the Reef saw a couple of sharks, some great fan coral and a ton of fish. Like swimming in an aquarium. The ride back in we were able to spot a few sea turtles. Bring some cash because tipping is appropriate and sometimes they have soft drinks and hot dogs to sell. I highly recommend this half day trip. read more

We had called Looe key resort and reserved a room for a last minute trip to the keys. We arrived around 6:30pm to check in, and the girls at the front were confused and did not have a room available for us. We were told they had just switched to a new system and some kind of error had occurred. This unexpected situation really threatened to derail our trip as we were now scrambling to call other nearby locations in search of an available room. Normally this would all be a great reason to write an angry review however I would like to focus on the positives. The two girls upfront (wish we had gotten their names) were extremely apologetic and immediately offered us a store discount and free drinks at the bar next door. We could tell they genuinely felt really bad. We left disappointed there wasn't anything else they could do and headed towards a nearby spot that fortunately still had an available room. As we were at the front desk of the other resort we got a call from the girls. They had spoken to their manager and were graciously willing to cover the difference in price. Bottom line: thank you for helping make our trip continue smoothly! Not sure if this is a result of the new management but we appreciate you going above and beyond to make things right. Turned what could have been an extremely negative experience into a positive one! read more

While on vacation and staying with family here in the Keys, we were referred to Looe Key dive center by the family ( who are also avid divers). This being our first of many dives in the Keys, we were very excited to say the least. We booked the charter online the day prior to the dive. The day of the charter we arrived about 7:30 am to ensure we would not delay the charter( shop opens at 8:00 am). The staff opened promptly at 8:00, we were greeted by Mark when we entered and he asked how he could help us. We explained that we were checking in for the 8:00 dive charter. He responded by saying " umm what's your names? You didn't get a call last night? We responded no about the call, he then explained that due to weather it was cancelled two hours after booking ( we understood that completely). As this conversation went on, a large group of teenagers ( 20-30 ) started to gather at the front door outside the shop. The story of weather being the issue then changed and Mark said "as you can see we are limited on space". I asked when i could expect a refund of the nearly $300, Mark explained that they never charged my card. He said they don't charge that card prior to the charter for this very reason of weather. When then left and headed back to the families house. On the way back i checked my bank account and guess what? They charged my card for the charter as soon as we booked. I called the shop and Mark answered. I explained the situation and he said " oh yeah it shows they charged it but, they refunded it yesterday". If I could give this shoddy attempt at a Dive shop a -20 as a review i would! They obviously saw more money in the 20-30 teenagers taking a dive course and didn't give a shit about two people that booked with them because it was less money. On top of that, Mark lied to our faces 3 times in less than 5 minutes. first it was weather, then it was limited space due to the class and finally that they didn't charge my card. I would highly recommend not giving this shady so called dive shop your hard earned money, there are more dive shops with way better reviews and morals. read more

I love the dive crew! Josh, Capt. Jay, Madelyn. Im glad they got a new boat too. I love their free drink tokens.

This was a great charter for snorkeling. Made a reservation the day prior and ended up getting bumped to the afternoon time slot but had plenty of communication from the dive shop. Their equipment was in good condition and the boat was really well taken care of. The captain and first mate were fun and even the dog, Rudder, was good company. They were intentional in looking for dolphins and turtles on the way back. All snacks and beverages were for purchase only but we were free to bring a small cooler of our own. The price per person to snorkel was fair, and they gave the divers great help and direction. I'd definitely book with them again. read more

Looe Key Reef Resort - Photo bombed by the Captain!!! - Boat Charters Near Me - Ramrod Key, Florida

Simply the best! I'm not sure why people say the service was bad. They were great on the phone when I booked and then when we got there before the shop opened the man setting up for the day came out with our forms so we could start on them while we waited. The staff was all very friendly, kind and helpful. We (two adults and two kids 7 & 5) have been snorkeling for years (the littlest started last year) and this was one of the best tours we have ever done. The Captain, James, was funny and kind and took his time finding the best spots and chatting with us about the reef and its inhabitants as well as living in the Keys and even recommended a local restaurant for lunch. We saw more fish in Looe Key then anywhere I have ever been (Cozumel, Belize, Cuba, Jamaica...). We saw plenty of tangs and parrotfish. There was a ~300lb grouper that followed the boat around, lion fish, lots of little guys and a lemon shark. We stopped at two different spots and on the way back James was sure to point out flying fish and turtles and even made an extra pass in an area to be sure we all got to see a turtle come up for air. We were lucky enough to have two other staff members come with us and though they were there for fun they were helpful with the kids and very pleasant to chat with. This was by far the highlight of our family trip and we will be back! read more

When we called your dive shop on Friday we were told that if we wanted to rent 4 tanks that we needed to arrive at 08:00 Saturday. I stood in line and when I told the cashier that I wanted to rent tanks she impatiently snapped at me and said I had to wait until she got the boat off the dock. I get it, she had a lot of people there and they are on a schedule, but I was told to arrive at 08:00 by your staff then pushed aside with an attitude as if I was bothering them. I waited for the boat to leave and went through the process to get our tanks. At this time I asked and was told that the tanks were filled to 3200 psi. As we learned when we got to our dive site, they were not. Each tank was filled to approximately 2700 psi. When we returned the tanks after our dive I addressed the issue with your staff and your store manager. I did not ask for a reduced cost or a refund, I simply wanted to address the fact that our tanks were not filled to the level that your staff said they would be. I wanted to know that if I decided to continue business with you in the future that it would be done correctly and as promised. The attitude and excuses that your staff and manager displayed were unwarranted. The manager, while staring at her computer / register and not looking at me, stated that "the tanks are actually filled to 3300 psi but they settle to 3200 psi" as if that explains why the tanks were at 2700. She quickly turned this into being my fault for not bringing my regulator in to check the tanks before I removed them from the shop. As inconvenient as that may be, I did learn a lesson: Looe Key Dive Center cannot be trusted read more

Had a reservation for one night stay at the "resort" . Room was dirty, toilet seat stained, sheets looked like they had been slept in. I went to complain,Savannah was very nice, and changed our room. This time the toilet was clean but sheets where stained, towels stained, the a/c was a very small wall unit (the filter was dirty) the room was dirty, the furniture was old And broken or scratched. it was an overall disgusting and bad experience. It was late and office was closed and so I could not go complain...upon checkout first thing in the morning i went to drop off room key and told the young man there all about it after i handed him the keys. ( I had paid already upon check-in) I said, you know that you really have a problem with cleaning and housekeeping. And he said, "yeah, we know". He didn't even make eye contact with me and waited until i walked away...then he said, "sorry about that".... I was just without words from such a lack of interest, or willingness to make the customer happy. We paid for one night, $218, my kids and i slept with our clothes on, since we were do grossed out...absolutely not acceptaple. I would demand a full refund. The personnel were very pleasant and the value of the trip was good. Booking was easy too. There were over 40 people on a 42' boat, but I had no problem with that. The seas were rougher than I think we all realized before heading out to the reef. Many people got sick soon after arriving at the first dive site. The visibility under the water for snorkelers and divers was approximately 15-20 feet (not great) as there were at least 5 foot waves comes quickly at the reef! The boat staff mentioned how the visibility and weather 6-7 miles off shore is almost always unpredictable. As a first time snorkeler in open ocean, I would have appreciated more direction once we got to the dive site (where the boat was located in relation to the reef, tips for snorkeling in such rough seas, etc.). It was nice that they had water, alcoholic beverages and snacks on board (the latter two for purchase). It was great to arrive back on shore and have the opportunity to take a hot shower - what a pleasant surprise. It allowed us to continue with our day as soon as we left the dive shop. Thank you Looe Key Reef Center! read more

Hard to know how to score this, a 4 for the snorkeling and 2 for customer experience? The snorkeling itself was wonderful despite a choppy day Dec 17 afternoon. We saw a grouper, an angry eel, 5 sharks (reef and nurse). Totally worth it to go on this. Only feedback is our captain seemed uninterested in being there. He verbalized as we left the dock how disappointed it was only having 7 passengers (less tip $?), which was not our fault, blame COVID. He was not unfriendly, but not really friendly either.
