Great snorkeling location. We've done some ten snorkeling excursions around the Americas and this was in the top two with the other being Belieze. By far the greatest experience I had during my trip to the Florida Keys was snorkeling the reef at Looe Key National Marine Sanctuary with this company. You have the option to dive or snorkel, and the dive shop will supply you with anything you need before you go. Its $50 per person for snorkelers, and you'll be in the water for two hours. You can choose to bring your own food & snacks, or you can run a tab and purchase whatever they have on offer (chips, water, sodas, beer, etc). They supply the eco-friendly sunscreen. We went out on the Kokomo Cat II with Captain Katie & Josh, and I can't say enough good things about them. You couldn't ask more a more fun pair of people to take you out to Looe Key. They were extremely knowledgeable and you can tell how much they genuinely care about the imperiled coral ecosystem. There is not an aquarium in the world that can match the diversity of marine life that you will see out at this reef. On the two days we went out, we saw dolphins, sea turtles, caribbean reef sharks, nurse sharks, goliath grouper, green morays, spotted eagle rays, pufferfish, barracuda, hogfish, squirrelfish, various species of parrotfish, angelfish, snapper, filefish, & wrasse. And don't even get me started on the schools of blue tang. If you're in Key West, forget about Sea Fury and do yourself a favor and make the 30 min drive over to Ramrod Key. Strongly recommend! Stellar 1/2 day snorkel and dive. We just did the snorkel so I can't speak to the dive portion but the snorkel was well organized and well worth the money. Captain and crew knowledgeable and very funny. You are out in open water so a bit advanced for smaller kids. Small cash snack bar with water, Gatorade and chips. You also get a token for a drink at the tiki bar at the end (nice atmosphere). read more

One because there's no zero. My wife and I have traveled all over. Both visits two different employees they were both indifferent and bothered that they had to lift a finger to help. Not sure who owns this place but your employees need to be policy and helpful. No and I can't should never come out of their mouth. Did not stay at the hotel but used their charter to see Looe Reef. They were awesome! I can't thank Captain Katy & First Mate Tom enough. First and foremost, their attention to safety and ensuring a good experience was above & beyond. They gave numerous "tip talks" & assisted everyone with their gear throughout our outing. My husband is a boat Captain and spent many years on the water - he knows what he is looking at. Even more, everytime I popped up to check on my children, when I couldn't find one right away, they'd point me in the right direction. When my youngest had problems with her mask, they helped her back to the boat, gave her one-on-one gear instruction and she jumped back in the water like a natural. Captain Katy handled the boat with precision. Captain Katy also has a tremendous and entertaining personality to boot! Captain Katy & Firstmate Tom worked fluently as a team. James and Ron are awesome guides and the trip is more than affordable. Candies, snacks, and drinks available on the boat for $1 each. The boat is in great shape, the equipment is well maintained, the system is down to a science, and the two one hour dives give just enough time to really explore an awesome reef. Scuba and snorkeling available. I snorkeled on a day with a little bit of chop and it was still awesome. Just be sure to know how to clear your snorkel and everything works out. TONS of huge parrot fish, lots of awesome coral, some trunkfish, a small shark, and some barracudas. Great day on the reef. Came to the restaurant after a half day snorkeling trip. The Snorkeling Trip was amazing and deserves 5 stars. They take you out to a wildlife sanctuary at Looe Key (a submerged key and coral reef) which takes about a half hour. They stop for an hour at one location, then motor to a second location. Both stops the visibility was great with lots of underwater wildlife. We saw: Reef sharka Barracuda Huge Groupers Rays And tons of colorful fish They give you a free drink ticket to hit the bar/restaurant after. We happened to go on Wed with $0.50 wings. They had several flavors, but we went with Teriyaki, Garlic, and Hot wings. Very plump juicy and flavorful. We also tried some Oysters from the raw bar which were just OK. The Stone Crab Claws with their special Key Lime Mustard was very tasty, but I asked for some drawn butter too like the tourist I am. They obliged. What a great experience all the way around. read more

I wasn't here for the diving and I won't rate the dive operation. The motel is awful. Other than fresh paint the place is on the lower end of the spectrum. Our room smelled like rotten fish and there were little ants everywhere. Also when we opened the back door to the dock the fish left in the trash smelled awful. For the last several years, myself and some diving friends have been visiting the keys, and diving our way north to south. This year, we heard a lot about and wanted to dive the Looe Key reef. We called Looe Key Dive Center over a month ago, and booked three days of diving. Two days on the reef, and the third day on the Adolphus Busch wreck. One of our divers is only open water certified though very experienced, thus they said we would have to pay extra for a dive master to escort them on the wreck dives, which we agreed to. Today, just two days prior to traveling from Washington to the Keys for this dive trip, we received a call from Looe Key Dive Center stating "Hello, this is XXXX from the Looe Key Dive Center and I was just giving you a call because I've got you scheduled for the wreck dives and that the day you guys are scheduled to dive we have a huge group coming down and we do not have any extra guys on hand so I have it down that you guys needed a guy and I was just calling to inform you that we cannot provide a guy that day of your booking and to give us a call back...." I called them back, and was told that they had another large group that just booked, and they don't have enough divemaster's to run that group, and provide us with a divemaster, so they asked if we still wanted the reservation. I reminded them that our trip was booked over a month ago, and they apologized, but they couldn't accommodate our previous booking request. Needless to say I was very surprised and very disappointed that a newer booking took president over our already confirmed reservation. It was also obvious that with their description of a "huge group" they booked over us was going to earn them more than the 3 divers in our group, which resulted in us getting bumped. I guess I am old school, and feel you should honor commitments made. I didn't feel comfortable diving with a business that conducts themselves like this, thus I cancelled all of our dives with them, and thankfully found available dives with another local dive shop. We will get to dive Looe Reef, just not with Looe Reef Dive Center....... read more

Top notch, A+ service! Took a snorkel cruise on New Year's Day. From beginning to end all staff was on top of what's going on which made for a very smooth and enjoyable trip. Captain James and Mate Jake were very knowledgeable on the area, the reef (and problems it is enduring), and the various marine life. The trip included sunscreen and cold water which is a nice bonus. Canned sodas and pretzels for sale for $1 and on the way back there is a variety of beers and hand made margaritas ($3/$5 respectively) for sale. Cash only, but there is an ATM next door. And to wrap it all up you get a free beer or rum punch at the tiki bar after the trip. As for the reef, it was in bad shape. I've been coming to the keys for 30+ years and to see how much of the Coral growth and color that is gone was very sad. Good variety of fish, sharks, eels and turtles which was nice but nothing like it used to be. read more

We called and booked a 1:00 snorkel/scuba tour after having our tour at another place in Marathon cancelled on us. They waited for us to arrive as we were about 40 mins away. Very relaxed, low key vibe which made everyone comfortable. We had a few divers on the boat as well. The snorkeling was good! We saw Goliath Groupers, barracuda and all sorts of fish. The guides didn't go in the water, just gave direction and operated the boat but it was okay. I would recommend this group for beginning snorkelers to divers. read more

This is a review for the dive shop..not the hotel. Stay away from this place - incompetent people who don't know anything about dive gear. I brought in 4 steel tanks for air fills. Tanks were 1980's vintage in great condition with current hydro and VIP. They refused to fill them...., I asked why and was told "you know there was an issue with the aluminum alloy back in the 80s" I explained I was familiar with old luxfer tanks and the issue with their 6351 alloy, but these were steel tanks and not related to that or any other quality or safety issue. The guy looked at me puzzled and stated "it's a safety issue we can't fill tanks made before 1990 because of problems with the old alloy." Well we went back and forth a couple if times and honestly it was like a atand up comedy routine...so I took my tanks a mile up the road where they were promptly filled...guy filling even remarked what a nice set of genesis 100s I had. read more

Very disappointed with you-all cancelling our Dive on Sunday, which dramatically changed our weekend plans! Had I cancelled within 24 hours of the dive, I would have been charged for breaking the contract! Doesn't seem right for you-all to be able to do it without consequences or any gesture whatsoever, regardless if there was a boat equipment problem. Every time I visit my family on Cudjoe Key, I swing by Looe Key Reef Resort and Dive Center. I have NEVER had a bad trip to Looe Key with these guys. The crew is experienced and they clearly care about what they do. If you're deciding between snorkel/diving companies, please choose this one! They go to Looe Key which is the best snorkelling spot near Key West. They also stop when they spot dolphins and sea turtles. A+! I have seen: Eagle rays Sea turtles Dolphins Sharks Jellyfish (not too excited about this one!) Barracudas Goliath grouper Parrot fish Angel fish and so much more! read more

Decent option for both diving and overnight stays. Diving experience: Went snorkeling last minute out at Looe Key between Xmas and New Year's. The boat staff were good and attentive. I'm not happy with the service we got at the front desk. Two issues: 1) We weren't told that the boat was dominated with special needs kids. I'm ecstatic these kids were out there and this shop supported this adventure. I think I should have been able to make an informed decision given the special circumstances. 2) The rough conditions were not adequately communicated to me. Had I been given a proper briefing, I think I would have waited a couple days for better conditions. Winds were approaching 20 knots from the south. Seas were 3-5ft. Visibility was about 25ft. Hotel experience: We stayed two nights. The first night we stayed in a single, which was against the canal. I really liked being right on the water. The next night we stayed in the suite. Not on the water. Not so happy with this room, but I suppose if you've got many in your party, it works. Prices were reasonable considering we were there over the holidays. Close proximity of the dive shop to tiki bar to hotel rooms were a bonus. read more

Looe Key is one of the most beautiful dive spots in the keys and no one knows it better than these guys. We had a great time on the boat and lucked out with a small group of people on the boat. Divemaster KT was rad and informative and made awesome post dive margaritas! Captain James is super friendly and knowledgeable. We only did two dives on a rainy/cloudy day yet they made it a great experience and on the boat, they have a grill for hotdogs and even made us a margarita on the way home at the end. The boat crew was as always a real pleasure, however while checking in the manager took offense at my anti Trump shirt and asked me to remove it. I am a Marine Corps veteran and earned my right to freedom of speech. Because of this I will never dive with theses guys again. read more

The reef was one of the best dives we have had but the "resort" was terrible. The air tasted bad, most of the crew was pushy (there was one young kid that was great), the captain was this creepy old man who only he thought he was funny. Really weird. Boat was packed and it was very unpleasent. No one was happy. Everyone staying there complained about the rooms, we saw one and it was a joke. The front end staff was horrible and I even heard them talking badly about thier manager, who they also called the old maid, which was perfect for her. Locals said to find a private charter, but we did not have time. Hit Looe Key, skip Looe Key Resort. The Keys are great but don't expect a high end resort town. They are old world, but we love it that way... read more

I had a bad experience with this company. The customer service was very bad. Not helpful at all. We wanted to dive but for some reason we couldn't find our certification cards. The boat was ready to leave and the lady in the front desk clearly upset said she couldn't find my information on PADI. She said I was Not certified and refused to let me dive. They did find my husband certification and refuse to continuing looking for mine. I went to the next dive center and they did find my certification info. For some reason that lady was refusing to let me dive, I am assuming a kind of discrimination going on here. read more

My wife and I signed up for what we thought would be a pleasant snorkel / dive cruise with this company and it turned out to largely be a train wreck. While the boat staff and reef were decent (though less impressive than I was expecting), the attitude of the dive shop staff was nothing short of awful. FIrst, they nickel and dime for everything. I have dove in many spots in the world including Hawaii, St. Kitts, Cozumel and almost always rent equipment. Unlike any other space I have been, they employ a manipulative "tiered" rental system where they upcharge for everything not included in the "basic" package, which is really half a step up from WalMart quality. Due to a herniated disc condition, I requested a integrated BCD and was curtly told that it would be $7 dollars extra...same went with a tempered glass mask. I have never dealt with any dive shop that comported themselves in this manner. Second, upon entered the boat, I was dissapointed to see that they do not set up any of the customer's gear. Once again, for the ridiculous prices they charge, you would expect the courtesy of someone setting up your gear. Third, they provide ZERO in the way of complimentary food or drinks, with the exception of one cooler of lukewarm water. Anything else including bottled water, soda, juice, potato chips, hot dogs, sloppy joes are "ala carte" and must be paid for in cash either on the boat or immediately after the voyage. Third, the weight sleave of my BCD had a faulty zipper and when I let them know of this, they accused me of breaking it and proceeded to charge me $11 for a replacement. When I explained that it was already in this condition, the very large owner / manager glared at me and threatened me. Keep in mind that they charged my wife (snorkel only) and me a total fee of $187 before any of the "extras" were calculated....after all the manipulation, the entire day topped off over $200 dollars. If all this wasn't bad enough, the dive center itself is generally unkept, emmanates a foul order and maintains inadequate bathroom and changing facilities. Overall, while Looe Key is a decent dive with an abundance of fish and coral, the dive center is a poorly run and manipulative enterprise. Worst place to stay in the Keys. Noisy and inconsiderate door slamming, loud TVs all night and poor air conditioning. Noise from the bar and grill didn't subside until after 2 AM. Find another place to stay! This is not it! read more
