Went here with my husband for drinks and appetizers in the bar area. Bar is great for a drink and to sit for awhile. My husband and I both got drafts on tap which were warm :/ (Maybe the glasses came out of the dish washer?) My second beer was slightly cooler, but I wish they would have paid more attention to the warmth of the glass. We ordered the Stones nachos which were good except half the chips were tough to chew. The lime crema was great on top. We also ordered the calamari with the cherry pepper remoulade which was average. The serve was attentive but kept trying to clear our table of glasses and plates BEFORE we had finished. I appreciate the effort but we were just trying to relax and it was kind of weird. I'd go for a drink again but the food was a little pricey for the quality. read more

I have been to Cobblestones a few times but never reviewed it, so here goes. Eight of us were here Tuesday night at 6:30 to celebrate a friend's birthday. Even though the place wasn't too crowded, the parking situation behind the restaurant wasn't ideal. We knew to cross thru some parking lots to facilitate our exit. The restaurant is near downtown Lowell and has that "historical" feel. Too bad it's across the street from a cheap gas station. The waitress was very knowledgeable and helpful, although she was a bit slow accommodating our requests, like more water, lemons, and sauces. I had the misfortune of sitting on the outer edge of the round table, toward the middle of the room. There was plenty of room behind me, but the waitress banged my chair about 15 times, no matter how much I moved closer to the table. Was getting a little annoying but I didn't say anything (surprisingly enough ;-). Our apps consisted of onion soup, fried calamari, and artichoke and spinach dip with chips (maybe there were about 5) and carrots and celery and cucumbers. Granted, we shared, but the portions were very small to begin with. The artichoke dip could have been warmed more, but the calamari (although a small portion) was good. The calamari themselves, were smaller than we're used to getting. The bread was boring, but the waitress let us know that the butter mixture was made in-house. I don't eat butter, but everyone seemed to like it, judging from the fact that they wanted another little tub. We had glasses of Malbec, a bloody Mary, and sangria. The wine came in a large glass, so it looked like there was only a splash of wine in there. Tip: Use smaller glasses to make sure it looks like you're getting more than a sip's worth. Entrees, all quite good, consisted of scallops, halibut, grilled salmon, and scampi. None of us tried the meat offering. Once again, the portions were pretty small. You were allowed one side, which for us included a baked potato, rice, broccolini, and cauliflower au gratin. The waitress had no problem letting us substitute a small salad for the side. We shared a blonde brownie with ice cream as well as crème brulee, both good choices for desserts. Our host paid for dinner and I have no idea what the meal cost, but I don't think it was as outrageous as the bill from Burton's or Capital Grille. We'll be back at some point. Just won't be tomorrow. 3-4 stars for service, 1 star for parking, 4 stars for the meal, 5 stars for the company = 4 stars. The owners also own Moonstones, in Chelmsford, which is located in the spot that was formerly The Ground Round. We haven't been there yet but may try at some point. One only needs to look back at reviews to see that this "gentleman" is, well, out of touch with reality. And in the spirit of "don't let the truth get in the way" he readily "forgets" to mention that he in fact told our table that they don't use tongs and "always do it this way". So to say we were upset about a "missing" set of tongs... an oversight, is so very disingenuous. And to imply that by telling the public about the shoddy food and unsanitary practices that we seek to put his staff out of jobs is just plain avoidance on his part. To say he thought "the mother had a aversion to touching food" is quite odd. That he literally tossed a small plate of crackers onto the table in front of her is, well, disgusting. Surely he used his own hands. Disgusting. . Unsanitary conditions aside, what really was the worst part was this bully of an owner who thrust himself upon our table after overhearing a mother-to-daughter comment, not directed to him, and refused to leave. When he did finally move, he literally stood 10 feet away, arms folded and stared, yes stared at my 26 year old step-daughter; a very CREEPY behavior at best. It was his crude behavior that is the sad part. Really sad. And by many, many past reviews behavior that goes way back. We did hear other "guests" mention touching of food by others with bare hands but 80% of dissatisfied customers do not stand up, they simply never come back. We did both. So go ahead, fool yourself and blame the customer for your sad lack of class as your low-rent behavior is a sign of an angry, angry person - and a bully. And Scott, as the owner you wear jeans on Mother's Day, and a jacket several sizes too big, even for you?!? Says a lot. read more

Took forever to order, took forever for the food to come out, and on top of it, once the food was to the table mine had some kind of gritty substance on the kale as if it wasn't washed. Had dinner at Cobblestones last night. The whole experience was disappointing. The quality of service and the food has been declining over the past couple of trips to Cobblestones. Parts of the meal was cold and the short ribs were overcooked, no texture left. The atmosphere of the restaurant is great, just hope the update their menu and improve the quality. read more

Service was bad. Waiter had to be asked to bring bread. He took our wine glasses away without asking if we wanted more. He brought steak knives to replace our butter knives. The steak tips were ok but mashed potatoes were dry and cold. We had to ask to see the desert menu. We went here for Fathers Day with a 12:15pm reservation. We arrived 10 minutes early. I have no problem waiting for my turn to sit especially since we were early. At 12:15pm the hostess informs us they're just cleaning our table. For the next ten minutes we see people just arrive and get told they're just setting up their table as well. To my surprise all 3 parties who came in after us had their tables cleaned and setup before us. They didn't even have a five minute wait. I won't go back. The server was great, we left a really good tip but I don't like the way their guest management was handled. read more

It gets three stars for the ambiance and decor. The food is good, not great. The service is hit or miss. The drinks are pretty good. The prices are are higher than the should be. And the location is inconvenient... parking is scarce and awkwardly spaced. All in all not bad, but not great either. For the money, you can do better. read more

Interesting that S.P. of Cobblestones (who happens to be the owner), never bothered to reach out to me, even though they clearly have my contact information. My husband was sitting next to me throughout the conversation, so he was able to hear both ends of the conversation, and was as equally apalled as I was. Furthermore, my colleague was seated accross from me throughout the poor service and meal, and I wasn't rude at all - nor would I be over a meal, as I agree that there isn't any reason for that. Anger isn't a part of my nature, and if you want to call me unreasonable because I wasn't interested in a lunch on the house from someone that preferred to defend poor service and food quality, than to be genuinely concerned about the guest's experience, then so be it. The server was rude, the food was poor, and no one from management saw any reason to touch base with me or otherwise follow up or even attempt to genuinely apologize. But threatening? Hardly. After politely declining the offer of lunch on the house, and explaining that I just wanted to call to make sure that they were aware of the situation prior to posting on Yelp, it was the manager on duty that became threatening to me repeatedly telling me "I wouldn't do that" as though the mafia would be visiting my home shortly thereafter. While there are undoutedly several "glowing" reviews, possibly some fabricated ones, and certainly other less than glowing reviews like mine, this is the beauty of the freedom of speach our constitution provides us, and the Internet (and Yelp) have enabled us to exercise. S.P, I can agree to disagree with you... As for me, don't worry, I won't be back there anytime too soon, but given the many choices in Lowell with far better food and service, it isn't really much of a loss on my end. Cheers. read more

I went to this restaurant with my daughter and nine other families while my daughter was competing at the Colonials Synchronized Figure Skating competition. We were seated quickly upon arrival (though with a party of 20 and it being a busy weekend we had reservations). The waitress was excellent, very attentive to our needs and the girls time. The food was also excellent; all the adults had a seafood dish and the comments were glowing. My big issue/problem came when we were told that due to it being busy the restaurant would not split the ticket. We suggested ways around this as we did not want to spend time trying to figure out who owed what and how to split the tip. The waitress and then the manager, when I asked to speak to her, was unbending in the rule. The result was three of us sat at the table for an extra 20 minutes to split up the bill. Not only was this inconvenient and caused us to miss some skating performances, it took a table seating 8 out of usage while we worked our math. This, though there was a line, did not seem to upset the manager or cause a change in her position. While the food and wait service was excellent, management was not. As a result I will not be a patron of this establishment again, nor will any of the other 9 families with us. I have also recommended to our skating club that the other 8 teams with us (some 100 skaters and their parents) place this restaurant on our "do not use" list. I do hope the management at Cobblestones understands that we are the customers and expect to be treated as such. Their inflexibility will cost them our business and any recommendations. read more

We had a fantastic time at Cobblestones. We had just come from a scuba class and were looking for a restaurant with gluten free options. We were dressed pretty casual post-swim, but the hostess and manager both assured us that casual was fine. Decor and music was very nice. Service was great (nod to Tyler). My wife enjoyed the Blueberry Lemon Drop as well as the Barr Hill Emerson. I had two of the whiskey lemonades and the second one was much better (the first seemed to be missing the blackberry liquor - color was totally different than the first one). Mac & Cheese and Shortribs did not disappoint. We will definitely be back. read more

Had a late lunch yesterday; 39 minutes after we ordered the meatball sliders as an appetizer (which were on special - recommended by the server), we were notified they were "still being made". Reuben was soggy & tough as roadkill. Institutional burger patty was mediocre. Way overpriced for the quality. Server was great, and tried to make amends after the fact, but should've been more proactive. It wasn't like it was busy. Won't be back & won't recommend. Very disappointed. This is a 1 star review ONLY due to the service, or lack thereof. My fiance and I came here at night to have a beer. We love craft brews and trying new beers at different places. We got to Cobblestones and decided to sit outside. Our server came around and was helpful.......at first. He helped me choose a good beer that I was really excited about trying. We waited and waited .......and waited. A group of 5 people sat outside about 10 minutes after we arrived. Our mysterious disappearing server went to take their order and noticed we didn't have our beers. He gave us a "huh, I thought I got your drinks" kinda face. He said "I'll get you guys right now, just let me take care of these people real quick." Having worked at several restaurants myself, I was understanding and said okay. So again we waited aaaaaand waited. Our Houdini server magically appeared with all the drinks for the 5 people who showed up way after us. One of them ordered a mojito (which takes a while to make) and they still got their order before us. We gave our server one more chance and waited again. He never showed so we got up and left. We must have waited for over 30 minutes for 2 beers that never came. I don't understand what the issue was. We ordered tap beers. It doesn't take much time and effort to fill 2 glasses with beer. To make things even more annoying, the place was dead. It was late night and the restaurant was practically empty. There was NO excuse, NONE WHATSOEVER for our servers behavior and lack of professionalism. When we were walking back to our hotel, we were actually wondering if he did it on purpose to get rid of us. If he did, we have no idea why. We were so puzzled. We were friendly with him, he was friendly with us. We even had a conversation about great craft breweries. I hope the manager sees this and straightens up the employees, because this experience was uncalled for. We were both very pissed. read more

My most recent cobblestones experience will undoubtedly be my last. My family attempted to have a formal birthday dinner, however this was unattainable for the cobblestone's staff. Untimely service, obscenely over-priced drinks, and the strikingly lackluster quality of food, all contributed to a disappointing dining experience. The lack of facilities for diners during the folk festival made using the restroom in a timely fashion impossible. My girlfriend waited as asinine amount of time (30+ minutes) to use the restroom during our chaotic dinner. Folk festival weekend does slow things down and this is understandable, however it is the establishments responsibility to account for these things and adjust accordingly. Cobblestones has failed to do this. Downtown lowell is full of wonderful places to eat; Cobblestones is not one of them. read more

Have been to this gem on numerous occassions, most to meet friends after work and I've never had a negative experience here. The waitstaff is friendly and courteous (John rules..). They do have a nice selection of beers on tap which surprised me; some Belgian and German choices. Food is exquisite, from the Lobster Roll to the Fish dishes to the Wings...yes a bit pricey I reckon, but delicious stuff. Jukebox has all kinds of good stuff, from Stevie Ray Vaughn to Jack Johnson etc.. always good times, and a place where you always seem to run into someone you know. Will def keep coming back. Two of us are vegetarian and the menu offers choices that they can make vegetarian by request so there was a lot to select from. Well it was the first Friday night of LOBSTER-PALOOZA! at Cobblestones so I had to have the Mega-Lobster Roll a creation of Chef Paul Dubuque and owner Scott Plath. Fortunately, I was not disappointed, the Roll was accompanied by heaps of potato salad and a cup of Clam Chowder you could sink your teeth into, a.k.a. you could taste the hits of bacon! The centerpiece of course was the Lobster roll and Mega was appropriately used here. If Paul could have fit in one more piece of lobster it probably would have taken a study from the US Corp of Engineers to do it. I have a real good feeling about the rest of the summer where they will be serving lobster in more ways than I can write here: Steamed, baked, stuffed, scampied, risotto, sliders, Friday's in a roll on the patio, with steak, mac n cheese... read more

We love the food especially the Mac-n-cheese and truffle fries oh and great beer on tap...Last night we were celebrating our anniversary and had great service from Billy. We had to kill a few hours and went into cobblestones bar area for a bite to eat. I love the outside of the building and the grounds and the inside was very lovely as well. We ordered clam chowder and fish and chips. The chowder was very tasty, although i wish it was hotter in temperature. The fish and chips was excellent I even enjoyed the coleslaw which was on the dry side, I hate coleslaw that is dripping in mayo and is to wet, this was perfect ! The fish was plentiful and very well cooked, and the fries to die for. Our service was excellent, very sweet chatty waitress who was funny and attentive even though she had her hands full. The music they played was great- a nice mix of alternative music with some hits, listening to Elbow come over the speakers made me a fan of this bar. great time, my only complaint would be it was hard to read the menu's which are in orange ink and the lighting is dim, maybe turn up the lights a bit or reprint the menus in black ink. read more

Cobblestones is in my rotation of favorite places to go whether as a couple or with a group. The ambience at the bar is good, the drinks are excellent, and the bar menu is a nice pared-down sampler from what the restaurant offers. Over the years the menu has changed somewhat, but I'm almost never dissapointed in my meal. A little pricey, but not way overboard for what you get. read more

Beautiful restaurant, good food but lacking in attentive waitstaff. The pictures of famous people who dined there didn't impress me. My waitress must have been either new in being a waitress or just had an off night, but having a bad waitress really can ruin the night. Had to ask over 5 times for water, she kept "forgetting", and never brought our bread and butter, not a big deal it's just bread and butter, but that showed me she wasn't paying attention. She spilt our food all over the place as she was taking plates away, very clumsy, it was so awkward. Fried calamari was delicious, small in portion though. Very strong cocktails, which is a plus! Fish and chips were delicious, but hated the shoe string fries. Mac and cheese was good, but the fried onions on top were weird. No garden salad on the menu :( Dessert: creme brulee was in a large round flat bowl but it was so flat that it makes it looks like you're getting allot but with a large bowl it's spread thin. Quiet disappointed. Probably would visit another restaurant, I crossed off Cobblestones off my places to visit. read more

We came here for a post-baptism dinner and were served in their special events room. The room was set up very nicely and was in close proximity to the bathrooms which is necessary when you get a group with lots of children and elderly folks. They did set up a small bar upstairs for guests to be able to purchase alcohol but the selection was minimal so we ended up going to the downstairs bar to order drinks. As far as the food, it was pretty good for a buffet. The salad we had was pretty standard but it would have been nice to have signs that would tell you what kind of dressing they had. The entrees were chicken piccata which was a bit dry and the standout shrimp and scallop pasta. The scallops were very large and were well complimented by the creamy pasta sauce. I was impressed with the pasta to have ordered it again if I came back to this restaurant. For dessert we had a chocolate pudding cake concoction which I along with everyone else really enjoyed. The reason I give this place only 3 stars is because of the service we received. Things started going downhill towards the end of the meal. I was appalled to see the woman who seemed to be the lead waiter push a small child out of her way so that she could refill somebody's water. We waited forever to get coffee and dessert served. It took so long that some of the guests had to leave. By the time that they came around with the coffee, they had missed a couple of tables because people got up to go to the bathroom. When we asked for a table to get coffee served to them, the same waitress responded that they didn't serve the table because nobody was there. However, there were people at that table and they said that they were just skipped over. Regardless of what happened, in the service industry you do not make such comments to the customer and just give them what they ask for. Super unprofessional! Overall, I hope that they fix their service issues so that they are on more on par with the quality of the food. read more

The building is beautiful and historic but there was an odd, kinda musty smell in the dining room. Never noticed it again after the food arrived. A party of 10 so we shared a lot of apps. Had the truffles fries, calamari and buffalo tenders. The buffalo tenders were fantastic! The calamari was also very good! Truffles fries were good but nothing special. Wasn't a fan of the herbed butter for the basket of bread but so what. For an entrée, I had the BBQ steak tips. A portion so huge that I never even ate the mashed potatoes but the tips were delicious!!! I would definitely come back! read more

My husband and I always choose to eat in the bar area...it's much more laid back. Sometimes we have to go here because I crave their steak tips so much. I think it's the marinade more than the meat that I'm attracted to. The last time I ordered them, some of them were actually a bit too fatty for me but the plate is a lot more than I can eat so it didn't matter all that much. The tips are served with mashed potatoes and fried onion strings which are great when eaten together! They're one of the only restaurants I know that has Tucher Hefeweizen on tap and their mojitos and martinis are very good - the "Cappuccino Crunch" is my favorite. The one big drawback is that we always leave here having spent a lot more money than we wanted to...with drinks our tab usually comes to about $80- $90 for 2 people and we would rather spend that kind of money eating at one of our favorites in Boston/Cambridge. read more

We had lunch here when we went to the National Park in Lowell a couple weeks ago on a Sunday. The ambiance was very nice with live music by a young violinist. The menu featured brunch and lunch items. I chose a veggie egg skillet which was presented in the cast iron skillet in which it was cooked on a plate, with home fries on the side. The skillet had a nice quantity of sautéed mushrooms, squash, and I think peppers, cheese, topped with eggs. It was delicious. My husband wasn't so lucky. He ordered fish tacos which appeared as 3 cold flour tortillas filled with chopped lettuce and shredded carrots, lots of sliced red onions, and little pieces of breaded fish that looked to be of the frozen type. When the waitress came over to ask us how everything was my husband told her it wasn't really what he expected. She was great, and offered to get him something else, which he declined. We would hope that the fish tacos get a revamp or get removed from the menu. We were not charged for the tacos when our bill came. Our service was great. read more

A good choice to go after work or on a Friday night with friends. They have your typical chain-ish food that most of your co-workers are looking for (buffalo tenders, burgers, sandwiches, steak tips etc.) but they also have stuff those who are a little more refined (oysters, mussels, seared scallops etc). The service was reasonably knowledgeable and friendly but could be a little speedier. They have a small parking lot on the side of the building but you normally have to park on a street somewhere. I personally don't mind the walk but those who weren't from Lowell found the walk to be "so annoying" (get over it). A few times that I've been here on busy nights it was really hard getting a table but the staff was trying their best so I have to give them props for that. They have a big selection of beers and drinks too. Overall the food is average. When I go here I tend to stick to basic things like a New York strip, a burger, fried chicken or the baked haddock. I'm glad they got rid of the crazy meats they used to carry (ostrich, alligator and others), when a place is doing stuff like that they are trying too hard. Still some of the items on the menu are a tad overdone (filet with a fake bearnaise, bland hummus with a poor balsamic reduction, fried brie with a typical supermarket cheese etc.) so I don't recommend ordering those types of items. I don't know if it's just me but if a place is going to have those types of things they better be done correctly but I guess most from Lowell would be impressed with that. Like I've said before it's a solid choice after work or with friends but don't expect this to be 'upscale' despite what people tell you. Come here to have a good time with food and drinks and you'll have a good night out. Just be sure to bring your wallet, it's overpriced. read more

I had never been to Cobblestones before, but in the past 3 weeks attended 2 group events. I do not recommend for this purpose. Pay attention to the fact it is NOT handicap accessible. I know it is a historical building, but even someone with heart troubles who can't go up stairs should stay away. It would be very embarrassing to have your guests arrive and have to turn around and go home. Hosts would not be aware of their guests medical conditions. The 1st event was a high school reunion for 20 people in our own room. Shrimp and scallops pasta dish was ok, but the chicken dish was dry. The dessert looked like it was bought at Market Basket but we would not know how if tasted, as at the stroke of our 2hour allotted time they whisked it away. The restaurant was empty so the wait staff must have had a hot date. The 2nd event was a holiday party on the 3rd floor. Yup..no elevator. Surprise. The appetizers were ok, but we had to inform the server that the food was lukewarm. Again, no one in the restaurant, so, no reason for this. I had to ask for more apps to be circulated , the response was that they were pacing the apps...yes, but, it had been 90minutes since they brought the last tray and that only had 10 meatball sliders.
