Something about this place doesn't sit well with me. I love the old building, I love the location. They just don't seem to have a personality as a bar. I feel like they are trying to be fancy, all the while they are in Denille they are in Lowell. My husband and I have come here many times over the past 10 years. Tonight's experience convinced us that we won't come here again. We started at a table near the bar where we were unable to get service for 20 minutes. Restaurant staff stopped by to ask how we were doing but no waiter ever arrived. We were able to convince them to bring a martini to the table but the beer we ordered never arrived. We finally asked for our bill so that we could pay and exit to the dining room. This took another 15 minutes. The dining room is lovely and the music on the sound system was fine but the same lack of attentiveness persisted in the dining room. We were finally able to get our beer but the French onion soup that we ordered never arrived. When our entrées came to the table we were impressed and the food was delicious but the overall service resulted in a negative experience. read more

Whenever I'm back home, I really enjoy going to Cobblestones for drinks. It's a really laid back atmosphere without being a dive, nor pretentious. They frequently have functions in the space, which is historical and gorgeous. A great Lowell bar. read more

For various reasons I am obliged to spend 2 weekends a month in the Greater Lowell Area, and Cobblestones is one of several places on my restaurant rotation. I jokingly refer to it as "Kidneystones". The place is pretty popular, which makes their weird parking situation rather frustrating. We always wind up parking around the back, behind the Masonic temple, hoping we don't get towed. Whenever I enter, the smell immediately takes me back to my childhood when my family would frequent The Ground Round in Yonkers NY. I swear, they smell exactly the same. I have eaten here many times and I love that they always have oysters available, and they have a neat little blackboard in the bar area listing many different types, with little stars next to the ones currently available. Of course, I couldn't tell you the difference between one oyster or another, but its a nice touch. The entrees have always been just OK. Not great, not bad. The last time I ate there, I had a piece of fish that was slightly overcooked. Eh, what can you do? I never leave feeling dissatisfied, but I also never leave smacking my lips and rubbing my tummy in post-meal afterglow. They do, however, have an excellent and well fleshed out selection of beers and wine. The servers have always been really friendly, and gracious when they make mistakes. My partner once ordered a NY strip and they bought him a prime rib; they offered to remake his entree, and then charged him for the less expensive meal. They handled it really well and professionally, so no qualms at all there. One thing they must work on here...the decor! Another Yelper suggested that the dining area looks like a funeral parlor - that is SO right on. The walls are a dark eggplant or brown color (I can't tell due to the dim lighting), and every thing is muted and dreary and I expect to see an open casket or weeping mourners around every corner. I'm sure they can liven and brighten it up a bit whilst still maintaining that traditional old school feel, no? The atmosphere in the bar area is much preferable. All in all, Cobblestones is pretty solid and consistent, and I'll always go back, its just not that memorable. read more

(my fav is chix marsala) we've tried the seafood stew, steaks, and salmon, all great. nice wine selection, and oysters are always fresh. yesterday we stopped in for lunch. i was a little annoyed with the lack of sandwich selections, but i opted for chowder $5 and flatbread appetizer. $11? i was super impressed with both, so perhaps I would try a sandwich next time. the selections were minimal, but i'm sure the quality is great, like everything else there. honey got the fish tacos which is was super impressed with, made with mahi mahi. i had a glass of house malbec, which was delish! my mom had the apple bread pudding, which she raved about. pumpkin beer with cin/sugar rim. our server was sweet, fast, efficient and personable, wish i had gotten her name. the owner was there, greeting and making sure everything was satisfactory. $83 for lunch for 4, 4 alcoholic drinks 1 coffee 3 soups 1 flatbread (serves 3, 6 slices) 1 dessert 1 fish taco read more

I went here last year. Definitely a beautiful restaurant in a beautiful area, right on the edge of Downtown Lowell. Parking was a bit difficult to attain, but we made it work. Inside was very inviting, and it felt like a nice sit-down restaurant that you would find in an area like Boston; it was also cool to think that I was dining in the same restaurant that scene from "The Invention of Lying" was filmed in. The food was great too...however, as a college student, this is definitely a splurge I would not be able to afford regularly. Thank goodness I wasn't the one treating that day. I got the chicken parmesan over pasta, which came out to a cool $18 for a serving of spaghetti, marinara, and a small chicken breast. This place is fine. Not special, not amazing, not over the top in any way, but reliable in a never awful/never excellent kind of chain restaurant way. My standards are high so the 4 and 5 star experiences are limited to places that truly merit it. Husband and I had lunch here during the Great Plates of Downtown Lowell week on a Friday afternoon. I had made reservations using Open Table, but that seemed unecessary as the dining room was mostly vacant at noontime. We were seated quickly and given menus; the specials menu for the Great Plates week was not given to us, but when I asked for it our server delivered them to our table. I found that a little odd that this special promotion was not front and center. I ordered chicken satay and husband ordered blackened scallops. Both were good and the serving size was appropriate for lunch. He ordered a glass of red wine (can't recall which) and found it slightly oxidized, but did not complain. Restaurants need to be using vacu-vin or some such method to be sure their open wine bottles don't go toxic between servings. Anyway, it was a solid lunch on a Friday afternoon. read more

The bartender was great, she was attentive even though she was busy and was able to make a recommendation (rather than the wet blanket answer - everything is good). With 2 visits I can give it a fair review. Stopping in for lunches on Sundays, two sandwiches of 'okay-ness' were found in the Comm Ave (Prime Rib BBQ) and the Yorick Club (Chicken and Bacon. Now, these sandwiches were tasty but were accompanied by an unimpressive amount of unimpressive tasting shoestring fries. Now, I may be a little unfair but my LEAST favorite fry is the shoestring fry. I tried their Wild Mushroom Soup and their hummus plate as starters. While the mushroom soup was great the hummus was underwhelming. The service was adequate both times. Our servers were not all knowledgeable in regards to there craft beer selection (which is substantial). I give them total props for the background music they had on on our 2nd visit. Whatever Satelite Radio station they use is filled with an excellent selction of indie rock. We really enjoy going to Cobblestones. We always sit in the bar area, we've only been in the dining room once. As a vegetarian, we've always been impressed with their willingness to adjust their foods for us. I emailed the owner once about their special event menus not having a vegetarian option (yes I was THAT annoying person). He wrote me back right away, quite a lengthy response with some explanations, asking for suggestions, promising to be better about their special events menus. I see that people make note about their pricing. Although I do agree it's a little on the pricey side, I think the ingredients/freshness and methods used for cooking are well worth it. The Mac n' cheese is incredible! They have a few appetizers that are delicious! Potato skins (and they're happy to leave off the bacon), and the hummus plate - oh my! Delicious! They have good beers on tap, which is always a huge plus for us! I would give them 4 stars, but based on our very pleasant and prompt service every time, and the owner's genuine concern for their customers - 5 stars! read more

Food was excellent! We had a party of 23 and Ryan our waiter was outstanding! Drinks came in a timely manner and everyone's food came out at the same time. Appetizers were great along with everyone's entree. The only downside was the rueben sandwich didn't have enough sauerkraut and they couldn't give any extra because the sandwich was pre made. I went here for Sunday brunch just a couple days ago! The mimosas and bloody Mary's were great & there is a lot of unique variety to both hose drinks! For brunch, I had the avocado toast, which was made to perfection, and my boyfriend had the steak and eggs, which he loved!! Although the food and drinks were delicious, the service was very slow due to the lack of waitresses in the dining area! With exception of slow service, we had a very good experience! Everytime we go here we have a fantastic experience, the servers and bartenders are always polite, professional and provide great service. The food is phenomenal! The buffalo tenders, french onion soup, reuben and beef short rib are just a few of our favorites. They have a very good beer selection and make a great Manhattan. We live within walking distance and Cobblestones is always our "go-to" when we have out of town guests. Tonight we went to the Brewmaster Jack beer dinner at Cobblestones and had an amazing time!! The staff was awesome as always. The food was out of this world, some of the best food we have ever had anywhere! Fried Green tomatoes with pork belly, Gnocchi with duck confit, Braised short rib!! Avoid this place at all costs. I made a reservation at this restaurant for Mother's Day and spoke to manager twice before arriving. He explained that buffet would be unavailable but regular menu would be available. When we arrived they gave us a special menu with 7 items to choose from. I explained that we had an allergy and could we order from regular menu. Server who was rather rude told us kitchen could not accommodate anything off regular menu. So we left. I spoke to manager on way out who had no explanation for the mixup. No one in this restaurant seemed to know what was going on. Poor service, poor management. This is my 2nd review and I am very happy to be able to say that things have greatly improved. I'm not surprised to learn that they have a new chef that has started within the last year according to the waitress I spoke with this evening. Whereas the food I had almost a year ago was bland and disappointing the Salmon I had this evening was delightful and full of flavor. The service was excellent and with these improvements it's no wonder that the dining room was very full and I overheard others commenting on how the place has improved. I've been wanting to find a place in Lowell where I could invite friends and family to mark special occasions. It now seems that I have that in Cobblestones. I strongly encourage everyone to be nice to the new Chef and give her space to create so that she might be happy and thrive here for many years to come. read more

I wasn't sure what to expect from this place...I thought it might be typical pub food but, no! They surpassed my expectations by leaps and bounds! We sat at the bar and our service was fabulous. The bartender on (sorry I didn't get his name!) was sweet, attentive and efficient. The food is prepared with care and incredibly tasty. We ordered a Yahoo! burger (sooo flavorful), a vegetable wrap (yes, they even did vegetarian well!) with sides of fries (small and crispy, much like McDonalds, but better, of course) and potato "Sally". It's named after the owner's mother because it's her own personal recipe for potato salad. That sold me and I was very glad I went for the pitch. Y.U.M. Terrible restaurant. Went there with my son after an athletic event last night. We were very specific about how meal was to be prepared. May as well been speaking to a rock. Food came out not as expected and when we pointed out the error, no correction nor accommodation was made. Food is overpriced, small portions and not good at all. There are a lot of better options in Lowell. Stay away from Cobblestones. They should turn it back into a Gentleman's club. read more

This place just became one of my favorite restaurants over this weekend! The beer selection is pretty good, but the steak tips were the best I have ever had. We sat in the bar section (to the left when you walk in). It seemed like there was a private function going on in the main dining area, or there is a dress code, I am not sure which. In any event, service was great, food was excellent and I am looking forward to coming back! Another tip, although Cobblestones is located in the city, there is ample parking if you pass the building on the right and go down a little further (75 Arcand Drive). They have designated parking for their customers in an off street lot and it's free as long as there isn't an event going on. read more

For a main course, the group had the huevos nacheros, the fried chicken and waffles and the Buffalo chicken tenders. I would give Cobblestones 4.5 stars, if that was a rating option on Yelp. I have been living in Lowell for about 4 years, and Cobblestones was one of the first restaurants I checked out. Prior to 2018, I would give Cobblestones a 5 star (and it's still close), but the food quality has dipped a little since the start of 2018. I have also only eaten in the bar area in 2018 for either appetizers or Sunday brunch, so that could be a factor. I have also seen in other reviews that there is a new Chef as of this year, so there could be a little bit of a transition. Drink Menu: - Cocktail list is phenomenal, and everything is always well made. They always have a "C-Stone" which is s specialty cocktail of the night. - Beer list is fairly extensive, and you can get beer flights here. Food Menu: - The buffalo tenders and the parmesan truffle fries are amazing here. I've probably been to Cobblestones 15+ times in 4 years, and I've gotten the truffle fries all but 2 or 3 times. - Sunday brunch is solid, although the sister restaurant Moonstones has a larger brunch menu - Entrees are good portions, and priced in the $15-$35 range. I would consider this reasonably priced. - I've tried just about every sandwich or burger on the menu, and have not been disappointed. Overall, despite the slight dip in the food in 2018, I will remain a regular customer and have always enjoyed stopping by. read more

This was not my first time at Cobblestones, my work has had functions here and they were always decent. This was my first visit in awhile. I prefer the bar area over the more stuffy dining room. Good beer selection and decent service was the best part of our visit. The food is the biggest dissapointment. First of all its on the high side pricing wise. Hubby ordered the burger, for $12.99 they can't even give you fries with it? You either get potato chips or pay another $1.99 for fries. By the way, the fries tasted like fish. Either your oil is dirty, or you need a seperate fry basket! They were gross. The burger had to be one of the smallest ones I have seen in a while, tiny little thing on a big bun, not much bigger than a slider. Ordered medium rare, came out well done. The ambiance and personnel are all good, it was the food that was lacking! Moonstones is also on the pricey side, but at least the food is good, you don't feel ripped off. read more

What I personally think is really good : Buffalo tenders are to die for (I don't eat chicken, but these get me to eat chicken!) Fried Brie 5 Onion gratinee The Yahoo Burger (obsessed with their matchstick french fries, and their BBQ sauce) Mac and Cheese These are what I rotate in getting when I go. I do plan on trying the other things on the menu eventually. One of the times I went the waitress told us they make everything (including churning their own butter) by hand except for the blue cheese dressing, which makes me love this place more! My only complaint would be the service can be hit or miss. Sometimes you'll get fabulous service, and sometimes you can get subpar service. The desserts are pretty good too. I will keep coming back. I don't get the people complaining about the decor. It's an old building, and I think it's nice. read more

Went here for a graduation dinner as a party of 12. Service was very attentive, dining atmosphere was very nice and comfortable. A few people in our party ordered steaks that were not finished at the right temperature. We asked one steak to be cooked longer and was returned burnt on the outside and still raw on the inside. In addition, the so called "amazing" mac n cheese for $16 had a delicious sauce but was super overpriced for store-bought (not handmade) pasta. However, other entrees and seafood were delicious. But what shimmers in recollection was Tara, the bartender. She has the incredible ability to give you her undivided attention and deliver World Class service. Such a shame because food is okay, but facilities are just terrible, shoddy, and in need of real maintenance. Have tried here a few times. Friday night was last straw. Walked in to distinct smell of problems with restrooms. To avoid too much detail, I will leave it that smell was very bad and persistent while permeating into dining room and to our table. Time to invest in the facilities. And, a new paint job, carpets, and a good solid cleaning. The fact that the food is good is completely lost when the surroundings just feel dirty and undermaintained. Please invest in your property as this could be such a great location. read more

I really wanted to like this place. I mean REALLY. As someone who has grown up in the restaurant business and had been in it most of my adult life it takes a lot for me to go back to a place after receiving sub par service and mistakes on lots of food.... but I could see the potential so once again I have it a shot with my mom, this will be my last. Today I really wanted to have a house salad before my meal and noticed that they didn't have one on the menu, strange I thought because of the type of meals they serve. I asked the server if they had small house salad, one that was smaller and without all the stuff on the artisan greens ($7.99) to which he replied: sure I can have the kitchen whip up something and took the rest of our order. The salad came and it was tiny with only lettuce and onions however the white balsamic dressing was great. My mom got the 1/2 chicken which she liked. I got the short ribs which were on the dry side and onto of kale cooked horribly. The suprise came when the bill came and I noticed that I was charged $7.99 for the tiny bowl of lettuce and red onions. When along the server be said that they didn't have a house salad on the menu so they were going to charge me for the artisan. What? When I asked for the manager she repeated the same thing but also handed me a small artisan salad..... I didn't want the artisan salad, if I wanted it I would've ordered it! Instead of just taking a few dollars off which would've been completely called for your way of handling in it is telling me I am going to get charged for something I didn't order, didn't want, and you decided to hand to me anyway to get me leave. You got your wish, I'm gone, my mom is gone and your restutant left such a bad taste in our mouth with the way and rudeness this was handled that we will make sure to let others know they should stay away as well. read more

After visiting the New England Quilt Museum, my friend and I had lunch at Cobblestones. Very first time for both of us. Had the chopped salad with broiled salmon. It was delicious and the truffle fries were great. Very relaxing lunch and the service was excellent. read more

To be fair, I was here for a work event. But, I found the food and service to be just ok. Finding parking in the area is tricky, but if you go in the evening for dinner, there is plenty of parking in the lot. The only problem for us is that we initially missed the turn into the lot and had to go all the way around. Once we got in, our group took up two floors. The building was an interesting space. The acoustics made it hard to have conversations and the heating/cooling in the rooms were uneven. I was either too warm or freezing. I know it can be hit or miss at work events and the menu was prix fixe. I did enjoy the prime rib and the acorn squash. read more
